  1. How many times we gona go over this? Be glad you have a place to do the work.

  2. Actually, the amount of work for transferring multiple guns is significantly more than for transferring a single gun. Each gun is individually logged in and out of the ffl’s logbooks. In addition, if one transfers multiple handguns that triggers another form that has to be filed with the ATF. Each firearm requires the same amount of work whether it is sold singly or as part of a multiple.

  3. We all take advantage of online retailers. That's the reality of this c.f. Of a system we have to deal with. But I really believe you also need a lgs you can have a relationship with. A man needs somewhere he can go to and piss and moan, buy the occasional item and depend on for the occasional transfer. It's hard to begrudge a man the transfer fee when he's kind enough to accept an item you didn't buy from him. Just my .02

  4. Why should an LGS give a discount for a potential one and done? I know the customer doesn't give 2 flying f***s if retailer makes any profit, until the retailer goes out of business. Big box / internet retailers do not offer FFL transfers, why begrudge the LGS for a performing service .gov forces and no one else offers?

  5. Seems disingenuous to expect a shop that's trying to make a go of it to offer their services for little compensation.

  6. Helluva game, first overtime in Rose Bowl history. ESPN must be like wow, double edged sword, since they also have Sugar Bowl coverage which is supposed to have started 5 min ago on main channel, they're running it on ESPN2 without even mentioning it. - OS

  7. Every time I see a gun shop fold up and go out of business -- and quite a few of them did just that over the past 14 months -- I become increasingly grateful for the shops that remain in business. Operating a retail store of any sort is often a very thankless job. For every good customer who values and appreciates you being there for them, there have got to be at least two dozen or more who act like spoiled, petulant children and take you for granted or outright mistreat you. And worse yet are the fools that act like this and don't have the money to back up their air of self-importance or superiority. A gun shop with only retail sales to propel it has to be the quickest way to put a business owner in debt, the hospital, and Alcoholics Anonymous. We're fortunate to have a lot of good folks condensed here on TGO but keep in mind that you guys aren't the only ones who darken the doorsteps of gun shops. You're the "for every one" crowd. The two dozen or more others behind you aren't the bright part of any counter-clerk's day.

  8. Anytime the subject revealing what’s on my list of wants or desires or someon else’s wish list, the lyrics to a Rolling Stones song starts blaring in my head. I’ve probably blown way more than 1 or 2 50 amp fuses trying to justify or convince myself why I should acquire widget X that I want over Y or Z that I need. You know you’ve heard it and maybe thought, yeah that’s so true. You can't always get what you wantYou can't always get what you wantYou can't always get what you wantBut if you try sometimes you just might findYou get what you needYou get what you need--yeah, oh baby So after all that and like last year and a few before I’m looking for a deal on a 50 BMG that I have absolutely no real use for other than I want one or a Perazzi MX 2000 combo that will see some regular range time.

  9. My perspective is from someone that’s worked in guns stores and been the guy filling out the logbooks. You might have seen 10 minutes worth of work, but there was more before you got there and later that night after close. If anyone wants to know why a good chunk of ffls don’t handle transfers, look no further than this thread.

  10. Glock seems to have hired some of the product development people that Ruger could no longer afford to keep on retainer. The folks who have made a living dreaming up crap no one wants or needs instead of designing the products everyone keeps asking for. Like a single-stack Glock 19 sized handgun, or a Glock carbine.

  11. The 1911 is a 100 year old platform, with at best only minor changes during that time. Therefore, anybody who likes 1911's while decrying the lack of innovation among firearms manufacturers is bordering on hypocrisy ... BTW, I really like 100 year old guns ...

  14. I searched and found a few old threads, but nothing definitive. I recently decided to drop a small chunk of change into silver. It wasn't pocket change, but it wasn't a massive amount either. I haven't invested in something like this before. I normally collect toys like guitars and guns, so a new hobby like this seems fun. JM Bullion was running a deal where you get 10oz of Silver Rounds at spot. I got that and some other stuff to add to it. I can't say exactly why I did it. Sure, if SHTF silver will probably be more reliable for purchasing until things stabilize. It might be neat to pass on to grandkids or something many years down the road. If prices ever skyrocket on silver for a day or two I might make a couple of bucks selling it at spot. I can sit alone in my office in the floor and roll around in all of it... Sure, it isn't as useful as my guns or guitars, but I think it is neat to have, and my wife didn't complain one lick about it. Which I am certain is a trap. But then again, it is shiny, and she is a woman.

  16. Let's see, There is me, the wife, 2 sons, a daughter, a son in law, and now grandkids. If I build one new one I have to build 7 or 8. Cheaper and easier to buy the lowers buy the ten pack! I just wish AR-10 lowers were as cheap. We all have a 308, 6.5 creedmore, and I also have a 6.5 Gendel and a .243. Now of course my sons want one of those each. I have to admit I love the 243 and the creedmore.

  18. I m so glad I did that last week. Got in last wednesday and I must say the ladies at the eye clinic were great. I was very happy with them. They managed to get me in early and got my wife in as well the same morning. Saved me a trip. Chelsea was her name and she was refreshingly good to deal with. Went above and beyond which is rre with the VA these days.

  19. I'm confused. You actually think a shop can make it only by transfer fees?

  20. It's not the easy trasnactions that are that difficult. It's when you have denials, appeals, conditional approvals; then your dealing with customers who are angry with you becasue of something you can't control. having guns arranged to be returned and transfered yet again. Then they call and angrily visit you to solve an issue you can't do anything about. You also have the hassle of dealing with out of state sellers who don't send guns the correct way, serial number matching issues, storage, liability, transfer issues, etc. I know when I worked in a store we spent quite a bit of time on the phone and e-mail middle manning transfers that were not smooth. All that to say the investment alone in brick and mortar to store and transfer the gun you bought dirt cheap isn't $35 dollar cheap. Just remember the money you save buying online is paid by the brick and mortar's investment. I still look for the cheapest deal I can get, but I'm also going to be reasonble with my expectations of the LGS.

  23. As the law has certainly changed since I was involved 20 years ago I would not presume to give a step by step rundown. Back when I was doing it we answered the door and received the packages from UPS. Logged then all in both in the computer and the bound book. Separated any transfers and notified the customer of arrival. Most already knew as our schedule was pretty easy then. Not as much internet sales as today. When the customer came in filled out the paperwork, did the call in, and processed the payment. End of day we ran the till, and made sure all sales and transfers were logged and accounted for. Any multiple forms sent and the restrooms ready for the next day. Point is that it is up to each dealer, some sure seem to think it is fine with one charger and are happy to do business with me. Others want to charge for each lower and will of course not see any of my money. It is a personal decision on the part of the dealer just like it is my decision which dealer to use.

  28. Yeah, have not found one since I moved. Of course there is not one within 30 miles. I have used the same shop for most of the time I loved in other areas. Lived in Minnesota for 20 years and used the same shop. Still do when we visit. Same for the ten years I suffered in Florida. Now I am home thank the good Lord and I want to find a good LGS that I can keep until I am done on this planet.

  29. It is a tough call. I am an admitted impulse buyer but an a cheap sob at the same time. I don't mind paying a little more for a gun if I am treated right. I also understand a shop not wanting to give the same process to everyone that walks through the door. I do not waste my local time asking a hundred questions and tend to spend a lot there over a year. The guy that asks a hundred questions and shows up once then goes to Walmart for everything else is usually not going to get the same deal I do. How does a LGS stay in business these days? I do not have that answer. I have known several that for thirty years treated me great. Still do when I visit even though I have moved years ago. I will usually go out of my way to test them good as well including telling others. Same goes for bad treatment, I will not have a kind words for a shop that seems to only care about the one of customers. They sell them guns at MSRP and just keep right on going. They do not make an effort to gain a lot customer. We have all seen this shops. Some big some small but usually I see that right away and move on to a more friendly store. Want my business, ask my name, tell me yours, and shake my hand when you see me in your shop the first time. At least acknowledge the fact I made the effort to visit your shop.

  30. Actually my lgs needs to have a relationship with me. It is a two way s street but I am after all the customer. I will buy as much as I can from my LGS but if they do not understand that they cannot always best a great deal or provide what I am after it is not going to be a relationship that works. LGS are going to go under quick if they do not provide a reason for me or other customers to visit them. Charging me full cost for transfer fee on multiple lowers is one way to make me go elsewhere. If the local guy is close in price I will buy from them every time. If they cannot sustain their business then they need a new plan. Sad but true. I am a little tired of hearing how my local store needs my support. I understand all of the arguments but it comes down to me being loyal to someone that works at getting my business. I try to be a good customer at the same time not discussing my prices with others as I understand the one off buyer is not going to get the same price I might after spending half my annual income with them. It is a two way relationship which cannot grow if one takes advantage of the other.

  33. Glock has not had any innovation in a long long time. Most manufacturers have not. I think we are going to see a leap in a few years once engineers get a little further on incorporating technology into firearms. It is going to open all kinds of new issues. Interesting times.

  37. From what I’ve read lately on “junk silver” ( pre 1965 dimes, quarters, half dollars), is that it is a really good buy. Seems it was in very high demand around Y2K. Still is in moderate demand due to they only made so many, albeit ALOT, and more and more is melted down every year for industrial/commercial uses. I also believe the smaller denominations will be best for trading in bad times. Another thing to think about regarding the value of silver. Using milk for reference. In 2017, a gallon of milk cost $3.31. A silver quarter is worth $3.06 and a silver dime is worth $1.22 for a total of $4.28. 20 years ago in 1997, a gallon of milk cost $2.67. A silver quarter was worth $2.15 and a dime worth $0.45 for a total of $2.60. I would have used gasoline but it’s value isn’t keeping pace with inflation and would be an inaccurate comparison. The value of silver outpaces inflation. If you put a $5 bill and a silver quarter and dime in your safe right now, in 20 years, the silver will buy you a gallon of milk, the paper bill won’t. I won’t go as far as to say that silver or any precious metal is a good investment but it is a very good way IMO, to store wealth, physically, so that it has the same or more economic value in the future. References: https:http://www.coinflation.com/coins/1946-1964-Silver-Roosevelt-Dime-Value.html http://www.coinflation.com/coins/1932-1964-Silver-Washington-Quarter-Value.html //data.bls.gov/pdq/SurveyOutputServlet Next to last paragraph in the pdf for 1997 silver price, then calculate for both quarters and dimes.

  38. I was able to get to the range the last two days and put 600 rounds through it for the initial break-in, but still could use another 500 rounds to get it ready for competition. After this first break-in period I broke the gun down, cleaned it, and changed the recoil spring to a Wolff 7lb. I am going to use the same reloading data on this gun as I used on my other Open gun. My current load for this gun is: 115gr JHP Montana Gold 7.8gr Winchester Autocomp C.O.L. 1.165-70 174000 - Power Factor I may work up another load using Hodgdon HS-6 with the 115gr bullet to generate more gas to work the comp.

  44. I have also had both. The Pre-63 model 94 Winchester I still own almost anyway was given to me by my grandfather as my first deer rifle when we moved to the Ranch/Farm in 1967 from Illinois and it was one of the only guns they didn't get to steal when they burglarized our house back in 86 because I had loaned it to a friend and it was at his house. I killed about 30 deer with it over the years and passed it down to my son when he began hunting deer and he killed about 20 deer with it and now my youngest grandson Logan began his hunting career with it when he turned 11 last year. He has killed 4 deer with it so far. 3 last year and 1 this year. It has been a trouble free accurate gun since I got it in 67 and the 150 gr Silver tips rounds have always been the deer getters for it. They did steal a Marlin 30-30 /w/scope and it was also a great gun and I did kill several deer with it but didn't really have it long enough to give a fair assessment of it except to say it shot well and function flawlessly. Like a few others here have said, if I was looking for a 30/30 I would hunt down a pre 63 model 94 Winchester first and then begin looking for an older model Marlin 30-30 with or without a scope cause you will probably want to choose the optics you prefer................JMHO
