  1. Even with the frequency we hear of these acts, do you really think it is practical to keep a rifle handy for anything other than SD? To set up for a shot, if you were able to, how will LEO react to you? I think the thought is noble, but impractical.

  2. This UT Alum and dedicated Vol fan has heard plenty of this “rebuilding” and “inexperience” talk over the last 20 years. I do know that constantly rotating coaches is not the solution, nor is rotating players and not being fully prepared for EVERY game, regardless of the opponent or spread. The Boys got their asses handed to them plain and simple. The donors are no help either. They all remember 1998 like everyone else. That was a fluke of a season when all the stars and planets aligned.

  3. On a brighter note... Ya know, we always look for the heroes that put their lives on the line in these situations; the cops and sometimes civilians that face these killers down. . But those cops train for that all the time and are expected to handle it. We tend to forget some of the other hero’s; the medical professionals. From the First Responders to the ER Nurses to the Surgeons and everyone else. Once the shooting stops or the shooter moves on, and sometimes before, the lives of the victims depend on the abilities of these folks. I was impressed with the fact that the hospitals involved had also practiced and had procedures in place for that situation. They locked the facilities down, called people in, moved less critical patients, and made all the other arrangements for the incoming wounded. Also the emotional toll it takes. I have had nurses in the ER hug me and cry because they had to try to save the life (and did) of the animal that had just shot two of my friends. What I saw was as hard on them as it was on me. No matter how hard they tried; people died in this shooting, that is tough on them also. Thank God for these professionals.

  4. When I was sick as a dog last week I went out on our porch early one morning. A hummer flew up and landed on the empty feeder, looked at me, chattered, and gave me the stink eye for a moment. So I gathered the energy to make some food and filled the feeders. Now there's 4 of them zooming around, after hardly seeing any all summer. Go figure.

  5. What made me post that was watching the interviews of the hospital staff. Those are great people that were ready because they took their training seriously. Another was the interview of a Doctor from an Urgent Care facility. He locked down his business to keep his patients safe and then him and a nurse went out and treated the victims. They were there when the shooter retuned and was driving by. They continued to work on a victim. They are hero’s. And I like to think most of us are like that.

  6. I don't believe any of these are staged. We have over 320 million people in the US. It's not that hard to believe that we have this many evil assholes. If these keep happening at this rate I do fear more people will believe gun control is the solution.

  8. So my daughter wanted a shoulder holster so she could carry her Ruger LC9 and her knife without wearing a belt. This is what I came up with... it still needs to have the final adjustments done and the straps trimmed but I want her to were it a bit and find the most comfortable placement before she cuts the straps. The back lower strap keeps the holster and the knife/mag pouch from going forward when bending over.

  9. We have had a few hanging around all summer, maybe we'll get some during migration. At our old home, we had so, so many. 2 years in a row my wife went through over 100 pounds of sugar feeding them, our porches were like dogfights. We had 8 feeders set up, it was a constant circus, loved every minute.

  10. The UT faithful are going to have to be patient. The program has had zero consistency for nearly 10 years. It's going to take a long time to rebuild it. If Pruitt learned anything from Saban, he's seen how to do it. They must choose a way forward and stick with it for at least 5 years. More major changes will make it worse, not better.

  12. I no longer have any of Rick's stuff. I lost my last XM-18 skinner a couple of years ago. They were great knives. My EDC is now a Praetorian T. Greg's quality used to be pretty crappy, but the badassery of his knives still made you want one. Thankfully, his quality has improved tremendously. I have had three Praetorians, a G, a Ti, and a T. The G was too small and the Ti too big. The T was just about right for my taste. The quality on all three were as good as any of my other knives. They are still ridiculously overpriced, but good prices can be had on the secondary market.

  13. Yes, its practical. I’m a former cop, I understand the potential consequences fully. Situational awareness is absolutely necessary. I’m not suggesting anyone jump into a firefight and get killed by the cops; that would be stupid. As someone who is trained and armed; standing by and doing nothing would not be an option for me. Unless of course my actions would cause a problem; that’s where a person’s training comes in. Someone that questions their abilities or training; should try to be a good witness.

  14. I agree, I don't believe they are staged either. I think many if not most of them are copycat's!! They see all the notority the shooter gets and a mentally ill person that has been un-noticed or feels left out most if not all of his life decideds to make the news so he copycats those that went before him. There is no way more gun control laws are going to stop these shootings. Like you mentioned above. There are 320+ million people in this country and there is little doubt 2/3 to 3/4 of them already own 5 or more guns if they never bought another one. How many of them are the mentally ill left behind soon to be a copycat? Laws keep folks like us legal and at the same time punish us for obeying the laws by trying to inflict more on us. I think the more laws they write the more it will push those with mental problems to react sooner rather than later...............JMHO

  15. I bought an AR pistol to put in my trunk. I’ve now decided I need something with longer range capabilities. The two AR’s I have 15/10 are too expensive to do that with. I see new full-size AR’s at $500 or under though; that might work. I have thought about this ever since the 2010 West Memphis police shootings. If I drove into something like that, I would like to be able to do something other than run or take cover and do nothing. My AR10 would be the perfect trunk gun. But with nearly $2K in it and the scope; I would need to find something cheaper. I always said if my car was burglarized I would rather they take my handgun than my laptop; my handgun is cheaper and easier to replace. That’s not true of a quality large caliber rifle. We live in different times.

  16. I made a comment at the last carbine class I attended, "It sucks to think I have to pack a long gun in my vehicle." While evade / escape is high on my list of priorities, at least I may be in a position of a good guy with a bad gun to stop an active shooter. May be as the foreground and background will probably include a herd of panicked sheep.

  24. I do this as a hobby...not a you tuber. I don't say this in a derogatory manner but recording takes equipment and time. I have little to none of both. I try to sell my knives at the best possible price and since I've never been big on taping/recording, photography anyway if I bought decent stuff the knife customer would pay for it. I'm trying to keep costs to a minimum and pass the savings on.

  26. Beto is crying and dropping F bombs on CNN right now about including a mandatory “buyback” with the AWB he would propose. I don’t recall the government ever owning my guns to “buyback”. All this polarizing rhetoric will only drive more red to the polls. I hope these candidates keep talking about guns until Election Day. It has never served them well. They say they don’t want to take our guns and in the next sentence, they literally say they want confiscation of certain guns. I don’t own any hunting rifles or shotguns, so yes, the government wants to take all of my guns.

  31. I use to always recommend Streamlight TL-R HLs for inexpensive weaponlights. I have now broken 3 in about 3 years. Two tailswitches cracked. One down the center and one where the pivot pin sits. The other I had on my 8"pdw with a tape switch and the tape switch tail cap separated from itself where it meets the light. Hard to describe. So in short I have switched to Surefire minus a couple Streamlights. I have yet to break one over about 8 years of owning different ones. My original x300 is still running strong just low on lumens compared to current offerings. Not hating on Streamlight as my equipment does take a beating between SWAT, training classes, instructing, and regular patrol type stuff. If it sits in your house I'm sure it will fine for hd use but if your going to run it hard I would spend the extra bucks for something a little more durable. For a little cheaper and pretty light weight Arisaka isn't bad. My current setup on my rifle is M600 Scout DF in an Arisaka inline mount with SR07 tailcap/tapeswitch. Really liking it so far. Expensive but have yet to kill a scout light. PDW gun a 300 Scout would be nice and fairly inexpensive these days. I'm sure someone more light oriented will be along shortly as I'm not really up to speed on all the tech stuff related to them. Also full disclosure, I never ran a Protac so they may be great lights I dont know. I do have a Protac handheld light that has worked good and is stupid bright.

  34. Is it wrong to run around with 5 gal buckets of corn and grain looking for dove hunters. Once you find them, you throw the corn out into the field and run like hell. My game warden buddy said it would be a good way to get a azz whooping. LOL.
