  1. I remember when we had a couple of inches one time and everyone at work was getting ready to leave because there was a snow storm. One of the guys asked me “How do people up North drive in this all the time??”. I told him; “There are speeds between STOP and 70 MPH.” The other thing some fail to grasp… Driving on snow is really not that hard. Driving on ICE is hard for anyone.

  4. I visited the range and put about 250 rounds through the 92X Performance. The trigger measures about 6.5# in DA and 3.3 # in SA. Weight of the gun without a magazine is 2 lbs, 13 oz. The reliability was perfect with both included magazines. I was shooting reloads, 115gr Brazos coated LRN atop 4.6gr Titegroup. Accuracy of this load in this gun was mediocre, about 2" at 15 yards. I didn't have any other ammo with me to test with. I don't know if they had any special accuracy requirements for this gun; I did detect slight movement of the muzzle when the barrel is in battery, so that's not great. Shooting impressions: Sights provided a good picture. I'm going to nitpick the front fiber sight a bit and say that the fiber was placed higher than I like. I'm used to Dawsons, which are easier to align vertically. I found myself looking for the top of the black front sight to get alignment for precise shots, only to find glowing dot there. So I'll probably replace that. The rear sight was easy to adjust, I had to dial it a few clicks up and over to get my hits where I wanted. I disliked the "gas pedal" style takedown lever. It's only large enough to get maybe half the tip of my thumb onto it, and the edges and corner are far too sharp for comfort. I'm going to look into swapping it out for a standard 92 part. I shot most of the time with my thumb underneath it. I also wasn't fond of the slide stop's angled tab. Its proximity to the safety lever and its downward rake of the tab meant it was more difficult to find and hit than it should have been. I'm not really sure why they didn't use a standard 92 part; maybe they were worried that people who ride the safety would accidentally hold it down with the tip of their thumb. The thumb safety was OK: it had a good tension on and off, and the extended "shelf" was easily reached by the thumb, although I would have preferred it to extend further back. Beretta says they will offer 3 different sizes of safety lever, but I haven't been able to find out what they look like yet. The safety did make slide manipulation a bit more of a challenge than I'm used to on 92s. Between the location of the serrations (low on the slide) and the prominent safety levers, it makes grabbing the "sweet spot" more of a challenge -- if you grab too low, your fingers will be blocked by the safety. I'm glad they included forward serrations, they're probably going to see a lot of use on this gun. The frame serrations were a bit of a help, but not what I'd call sharp enough to be really useful, and the slick nickel/tin finish wasn't helpful here. I would skateboard tape over the frontstrap if I were going to do much competing with it... not that such a heavy gun is all that hard to hang onto in 9mm, but I like my grip to be locked in. The built-in mag funnel was well done. No lanyard loop, and it looks like you can get to the mainspring housing pin without taking the grips off. I thought the beavertail might prove to be a problem due to its sharp corners, but that was pretty much a non-issue.

  5. Thank you! I'm going to extend your purchase by another 6-months for the hassle AND the fact that you reporting this helped me correct the same issue for a bunch of folks who hadn't even noticed it yet. I really appreciate it.

  6. Interesting concept, but totally different than their Urban Carry models. Frankly I don't see the advantages over Kydex. Yeah, maybe a bit more comfy but leather is bulky IWB or OWB. Regardless of their promo video points, I've never had an issue with Kydex or 600D nylon for that matter.

  11. You probably saw a couple of months ago where Walmart announced they wouldn't be selling pistol ammunition. I had been watching and while there had been some markdowns there wasn't any price that couldn't be beat with bulk buying and in particular with Black Friday Specials and rebates happening. That changed as it has now dropped to 50% off today, or at least it did at the Ft. Henry Drive Kingsport location. I was actually alerted to it by the clerk as I came up to check on prices. It was it won't last long if all the sporting goods clerks are that proactive in letting folks know, but you may be able to snag a deal or too. I couldn't pass up 9mm Rem UMC 250 rd mega packs for $25. It was also a good excuse to buy some premium self defense ammo at a great price. The earlier discounts had thinned some of the variety down, but it seemed that every common caliber still had something on the shelf. I don't know if this is system wide or just a single store, but its worth checking if you need more ammo.

  13. Another update... We've been running version 4.4.9 of the forum software since November 26th, but apparently the company released a newer copy of 4.4.9 on December 2nd and did not send any news to their customers about its existence or what had changed. I heard from another customer of theirs that the updated copy included some fixes related to PayPal transactions. Those rat bastards. I have since installed that new copy of the software. Let's see if it behaves any better.

  14. I learned to drive in a 71 maverick, 3 on the tree in Spokane Washington (well actually Fairchild AFB) in the late 70’s. I knew nothing about driving in the ice and snow. Drove to Spokane and was returning, pulled into the left turn lane to go to the base and downshifted (bad mistake) that sucker spun like a top, ended up in the middle of the Marian with the tail end hanging into oncoming traffic with a big a$$ station wagon, and right behind him was a freaking semi. The car went around the front of the car, the truck went around the rear, both missing me by inches. I put that sucker in 1st gear and powered my way out of the median and got to the base. I spend the next 3 weeks on the parade field at night learning how to control it in any weather conditions. SP’s only bothered me a couple of times thinking I was playing or goofing off but once I explained what I was doing they were good. Next time I ventured off base I knew what I was doing.

  15. When I was 16 we were still living in Illinois and it was January and the night before I was to go get my drivers license we got 4 inches of new snow so I called to drivers testing center to see if they were open and the guy that answered the phone said yes they were doing testing to get your license and I said what about the snow and he said son, if you live here and you can't drive in snow you don't deserve a license. My dad took me and I got my license that day in the snow. On the Ice situation back in the early 80's I had a Dodge Ramcharger with posi tract front and rear and driving on snow with monster mudders with studs was not an issue when it came to going. Stopping on ice was a whole different issue. I could not stop any better than anyone else.!!!!

  18. I got a PSA gen 1 308 AR (PA-10 I think they call it). It had issues like they all did. I changed the bolt and went with the "orange buffer spring". It's run like a top ever since. Uses PMags and is compatible with 90% of the aftermarket parts. I hear that the Gen 2 have all the bugs worked out. I just checked and you can get one for $900 like the one I have. So they have gone up but they have 6.5 Creedmore too so that could be the new hotness driving up the prices. Most are temp out of stock but the basic A2 looking guns could still be cheaper if you're not a fan of the psa rails.

  19. From some of the news clips I've seen over the past few years, people in the snow belts are not any better at driving on/in snow than here in TN, even tho they've had lots more practice. I learned how to drive in the snow while I had my learners permit back in early '71, family was going to Callaway Gardens for spring break, it snowed the night before we left, and dad figured I might as well learn "how" to drive in snow, on a 2 lane North Carolina mountain road. Worst trip of my life, also the quietest as NOBODY said a word until we got down into GA and out of the snow.

  20. Studded tires are so 1960’s; no one does that anymore. You can drive on ice. I did it for years in Illinois every day there was ice. A couple of years ago we had ice for a week here. I live in Murfreesboro and worked in Shelbyville. I kept driving every day because I figured if it got bad enough, I wouldn’t be able to go. I didn’t miss any days while some that lived in town called in. It's like anything; you just have to approach the problem with some common sense.

  25. My dad just picked up a mid-40's Woodsman that is just beautiful. It wasn't that expensive, either. I had an old Iver Johnson Trailsman (Woodsman copy) when I was a kid that was a tack driver. If you could see it - that thing would hit it. If I found the right deal on either of those - or a High Standard clone, I'd look at it seriously.

  37. Glock Spock said: Generally speaking, it's the "seasoned" gun owners that I am more afraid of being around when they are handling firearms. Several years ago I was at the range. The way our range is set up is there's a shelf built along the back of the roofing posts about 10 ft or so behind the firing line. Its a good place to put things like gun cases, range bags, drinks or whatever you don't actually need on the firing line. One day I was there and there was this middle aged guy shooting. He had all his ammo on that rear shelf. He'd shoot, turn around and walk back, reload and turn around with the loaded gun and walk back to the firing line. No muzzle discipline at all. He was sweeping everybody. I very politely pointed this out to him. He responded by yelling very angrily "I know what I'm doing!" I just packed up and left. No point in trying to talk sense to an idiot.
