The order of govt., like the forward progressing order of the universe, is chaos, not actual order. It is a self-preserving entity like The Blob. Its only concern is to eat and grow, like the Borg, to assimilate everything in its path. It does not consider itself to exist for the benefit of others, but that others exist for its benefit. Perhapss SkyNet became conscious well before 1997. The Founding Fathers foresaw the inevitability of the bloated growth of the behemoth called govt. and made provision in multiple ways to restrain this monster's growth, to keep it reigned in, and a "break glass in case of emergency" button called the 2nd Amendment in case the self-destruct sequence accidentally or intentionally became activated. The question will be, do the Citizens of the United States of America possess the fortitude to break the glass if and when the time should come?3 points

I spent three years of my life fighting in Iraq. Every house was authorized to have an AK-47, and there is no right to bear arms guaranteed by their Constitution. They were allowed firearms (fully automatic ones at that) because it was understood that Iraqis had the right to defend themselves, and the security situation was bad. This was a policy decided on between the military commanders, State Department and Iraqi government. There was no mass confiscation of personal firearms and Iraqis shot at us all the time. Unless we value the freedoms of Iraqis more than our own rights guaranteed by our Constitution then I don't see how what you are saying about our military makes any sense.3 points

"During an arrest, you think since you are not guilty, how can they arrest you? Why should you run away? And how can you resist right then? After all, you’ll only make your situation worse; you will make it more difficult for them to sort out the mistake. And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say goodbye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin’s thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! We did not love freedom enough. Every man always has handy a dozen glib little reasons why he is right not to sacrifice himself." ~ Alexander Solzhenitsyn3 points

I'm planning on spending some time with my family the next several days and I will probably avoid the computer as much as possible. So, I just wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. As bad as things appear to be I count myself lucky to have this place to come and unwind and bitch about the state of the Union and the world at large. Thanks David for this haven. I feel privileged to have come to know folks here that I feel I could count on if I was desperate, Mike and Mike and 6.8 and Gordon, and David, and.... well you get the idea. Anyway, I hope everyone here has a great holiday. Be sure to enjoy your time with family and friends, stay safe, and say a prayer for the state of the union.2 points

Government is a necessary evil. It possesses a mindless urge to expand. It can only do so at the expense of liberty. Its' only tools are deception and naked force. Only heroic efforts and constant vigilance keep it confined, lest it escape and destroy its' creators. It creates and controls mindless drones who look just like real people, yet they exist only to expand its' power. If that isn't the subject of nightmare, then what is?2 points

I would like to share a personal experience with some of my closest friends about drinking and driving. As we all well know, each of us may have had a close call or two with the authorities on our way home from an occasional social session over the years. Indeed, a couple of nights ago, I was out for an evening with some friends and had a couple of cocktails and some rather nice red wine. Knowing full well I may have been slightly over the limit, I did something I've never done before - I took a cab home. Sure enough, while traveling home I passed a police DUI check point, but since it was a cab, they waved it past. I arrived home safely without incident, which was a real surprise; as I have never driven a cab before, and I am not sure where I got it or what to do with it now that it's in my garage2 points

Now, I haven't watched the video, but I have to ask, what makes the separation of a husband and a wife cause either of them to be any less of parents? Sure, sometimes one parent of the other vanishes, but not always. I just find that to be a very ignorant statement. Again, that is said before watching the video, so if there is something in the video that makes it obvious he was a nutjob, I am sorry.2 points

I have a few M&P 15-22 rifles that my kids shoot really well. I've been planning to allow them access to the rifles for home defense when they are alone. I figure a couple of rug rats shooting 25 rounds each of CCI AR Tactical at a burglar will do the trick. Currently they only have access to Kimber pepper blasters and an EE plan when their mom and I are away. What do you think?1 point

When you get that trick going there are a few us that just might pay you to tell us the trick!1 point

The Walther PPS is very reliable, accurate, and highly concealable. The trigger is also very smooth, and it's a striker fired handgun which I prefer. Walther has made small handguns for many years and I think they produce a high quality product. Also, you should check out a Ruger LC9. It's a slim gun, about the size of Walther PPS, and less expensive. It's a double action, hammer fired handgun with a longer trigger pull. I have both and would recommend the Walther PPS if you have the funds. They're going for about $550 to $600 on Gunbroker (new). I noticed that CDNN was recently selling the LC9's for about $320.1 point

I dont think it would be asking to much of them to try to find out what guns one person or a small group of people have but they dont have the resources to do it on a large scale. And it would take decades to do it if they concentrated on some people for a while then moved onto another group1 point

I spent $600 on mags and ammo after the election because of the AWB statement in the third debate. Friday I purchased two more surplus AK47 magazines. The vendor put a limit of two per order. AK47 mags don't seem to have the PMAG markup.1 point

Proverbs 31: 10 - 31 10 Who can find a woman of worth? Far beyond jewels is her value. 11 Her husband trusts her judgment; he does not lack income. 12 She brings him profit, not loss, all the days of her life. 13 She seeks out wool and flax and weaves with skillful hands. 14 Like a merchant fleet, she secures her provisions from afar. 15 She rises while it is still night, and distributes food to her household, a portion to her maidservants. 16 She picks out a field and acquires it; from her earnings she plants a vineyard. 17 She girds herself with strength; she exerts her arms with vigor. 18 She enjoys the profit from her dealings; her lamp is never extinguished at night. 19 She puts her hands to the distaff, and her fingers ply the spindle. 20 She reaches out her hands to the poor, and extends her arms to the needy. 21 She is not concerned for her household when it snows—all her charges are doubly clothed. 22 She makes her own coverlets; fine linen and purple are her clothing. 23 Her husband is prominent at the city gates as he sits with the elders of the land. 24 She makes garments and sells them, and stocks the merchants with belts. 25 She is clothed with strength and dignity, and laughs at the days to come. 26 She opens her mouth in wisdom; kindly instruction is on her tongue. 27 She watches over the affairs of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. 28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband, too, praises her: 29 “Many are the women of proven worth, but you have excelled them all.†30 Charm is deceptive and beauty fleeting; the woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. 31 Acclaim her for the work of her hands, and let her deeds praise her at the city gates. http://www.usccb.org/bible/proverbs/311 point

Well, the majority of the country was against Obamacare. They couldn't get it done in the house, so they 'deemed it passed' and wrote it in the senate, then rammed it through the house with bribes and extortion. First everybody thought it would never get passed, then everybody thought the Supremes would shoot it down. Yet look where we are now. I am not so sure.1 point

I stopped buying from them several years ago. There is no reason I would deal with them now.1 point

So here's my take on this... Something is only over-priced if it is above fair market value. Right now the market will sustain quite a bit of markup over what it did last week. If you're really wanting to part with some items that are in high demand right now, you would be silly not to ask the current going rate for them. It doesn't matter if you are asking a fair price now or three weeks ago, someone out there is going to bitch because they want the best deal possible and feel like you somehow owe it to them to give them that deal. Don't worry about that. I would caution you against selling something today that you might not be able to replace again later, though. Unless you're hurting for cash, I'd sit on those items and see what happens. It could come to pass that you would end up really, really regretting it later.1 point

Why the ar-15 is popular, my top 10 list (not ranked just 10 'bullets' (punny!)) 1) it shoots cheap ammo 2) it can be upgraded like a 1911 --- you can make it YOUR gun with YOUR specifications such as a match grade setup or a rugged survival gun or whatever. 3) It is very accurate, the design is good for accuracy as the barrel is very well fixed in place and other internals contribute. 4) It is easy to fix, clean, and work on: simple is good. 5) it is reliable; 99% of problems are due to #2 where some bubba messed up his home build. 6) it is a powerful home defense weapon, with a standard 30 round capacity, a round designed for close/medium distance combat, light weight build, and ability to add forend grips, slings, etc for useability. 7) you can build or buy an inexpensive working model for little more than a mid quality handgun. Sure, bolt action plastic deer guns and shotguns are cheaper, but its reasonably priced. 8) Low recoil. It is designed to be comfortable to shoot, and it IS, whether prone, sitting, or standing. 9) It is one of less than 10 choices for a semi-automatic rifle in a larger than .22 LR cartridge. (Caliber is bullet diameter--- cartridge is the right term here). The others include the AK, which is also very popular, the mini-14 which is a m1 garande ( a WWII rifle design) in the popular 223 caliber, and a few less popular random firarms such as the offerings by kel-tec. The mini has had some accuracy problems, and the kel-tecs are nifty but not as rugged, upgradeable, easy to find, etc as the AR or AK. Basically, really it comes down to the AR, the AK, or oddball choices that are harder to find, harder to work on, etc. 10) Its a better platform for action shooting sports, as it is very easy to reload (magazine change) (some of the others have awkward mag changes such as the post and hole design of the mini 14). It is easy to mount optics, even 2 sets (short and long range, for example). It is easy to add a forend grip and bipod. Basically, its the same stuff listed above, easy to customize for the sports into a system that is right for the individual shooter, rather than just off the shelf live with it approach.1 point

I just use a nylon brush and Ballistol. Baffles are generally soft aluminum, so I don't use metal brushes. Likewise, I don't use harsh solvents that might react with the aluminum. And I clean my suppressors when I notice the noise level increasing. For my Gemtech Outback .22 suppressor that seems to be after 3-4 thousand rounds. I think that I cleaned my .223 suppressor once about five years ago.1 point
