leave five minutes earlier whipper-snapper ;) I drive slow, not 30 in a 50 but less than 60 on the interstate on my work commute and never over the speed limit on surface streets. I used to haul ass. I discovered taking my time gives me less stress and does not even cost five minutes on a 20 mile commute. if it is me you are flipping off as you go by I will be the guy smiling and waving.6 points

This is what concerns me more... Where were all the supposed oath keepers? I've not heard about a single incident where a police officer or national guardsmen (there appears to be videos of ACU clad NG troops involved) refusing this unlawful order. And that should concern you a lot more than the fact they did it... that nobody said NO. You constantly hear people argue that the police and the military won't turn on the population, they will stand by their oath and follow the constitution, I think this goes to show those people are wrong, when push comes to shove, the vast majority of police officer (it would seem ALL of the hundreds involved in this action) will follow orders and violate the constitution. That is a much more chilling issue IMHO.3 points

I had the privilege of ROing the range part of the HCP class put on by the Cleveland Hunting Rifle & Pistol Club on Saturday. The students, and some of guns surprised me. Of the 28 students 15 were women. Some were wives, but there were single gals there as well. One young gal shot a pistol for the first time ever, her new 9mm Taurus. She obliterated the main mass of the target with only one flyer off paper, her 1st shot. As many women as men used Ruger & Browning .22 autos, the majority guns & caliber that I saw. That was a surprise to me. One wife didn't have a shot outside the 9 ring shooting a target Ruger .22. I saw one old perfect condition Colt Cobra that a girl used, and several single action .22 Rugers. One guy qualified with a post war, matching s/n, made in West Germany P-38 in 9mm. I qualified with a Colt .45 and did get some odd looks years ago. USMC, State Trooper and Cowboy backgrounds always have had me shooting big caliber guns. I had my wife, family and daughters shoot .40 Glocks or K frame .38 S&W revolvers. I was probably wrong pushing all of them to shoot the bigger guns. Everyone needs to shoot what they are most comfortable with, especially for a HCP range test. It was good to see so many young women deciding to get a HCP. After shooting we talked a lot about what & how women can carry now. It was a most enjoyable time and I would do it again. Cherokee Slim2 points

Hello All, I've recently relocated to the east in a little town called New Market. Beautiful area! Originally from Pennsylvania, the Navy moved me around quite a bit for 20 years, by this time, too much damage has been done in PA by the libs so I looked for something else, you guys did a great job keeping TN a great place to live, Thanks! I don't go under the speed limit, but I do like to leave a looong healty follow distance to the car in front of me. It's saved me more than once. People seem to not like it, so they pass me, pull up and then I back off again. I really don't see how being 30 yards further up and going the exact same speed is better. I watched one of those "I'm in a hurry" lane jumpers the other day. He was whipping back and forth across 4 lanes of traffic, jumping ahead. I watched him cross all the way back and forth 3 or 4 times. He never got out of my visual range the entire commute, while I sat in the same lane, poking along at the speed limit with my long follow distance. My conclusion: aggressive driving doesn't really gain you anything but an ulcer.2 points

Ha, I had a good one in Kentucky the other day. Dude is traveling in the left lane at a couple miles below the speed limit, and I'm traveling in the right lane about 10 mph faster than him; there is no one on the highway at the time. Since he doesn't believe in traveling in the right lane I'm forced to pass on the right. When I get about 50 yards from him he speeds up, making this whole process take longer. As I get next to him he matches my speed. There is a semi I'm coming up on and am forced to slow down and get behind this moron to get around the semi in the right lane. As soon as I get over this guy drops his speed 10 miles an hour and now I'm stuck behind him. I would really like to know what goes through these people's minds when they do this.2 points

We were already well far down that path. OBL and Al Qaeda were just the excuse the statists in our own midst were looking for. The Islamic terrorists are not our real enemy, our real enemy is us. As a nation, we have done this to ourselves. When our response to an act of violence/terrorism/war is to attack ourselves and the liberties that define our country and her people the way we did with the Patriot Act, the problem isn't them, it is us. When an attempted incident is thwarted and we start making people submit to sexual assaults to board a plane, the problem is us. Finally, when we have an attack with all of three fatalities and people call for the surviving suspect to be stripped of his rights as a citizen, put an entire city on "lockdown" and treat the citizens like they were inmates in a prison (where the term originated) there is no denying the problem is us. The majority of the people in this country have given up their rights and accompanying responsibilities as citizens in exchange for EBT cards and the assurance of a safety that can be never guaranteed. Good morning TGO's. I just signed up this morning. I moved to Nashville 3 years ago from Pensacola, FL and bought a home in Antioch 2 years ago. I'm relatively new to the gun scene, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I managed to get my HCP, buy my first handgun (FNX-9), wrote emails to my congressmen and political figures through Ruger's website, and started reloading, all this year. I guess I'm making up for lost time. I just bought my second gun last week (Remington 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD) and I think my buddy and I are finally going to shoot it this afternoon. I work for FedEx, so I may come in handy to any frequent shippers on here ;). I also coach cheerleading and gymnastics in my spare time, so if any of you have daughters, and are looking for a great gym, let me know. Since I'm writing this right now, I guess I'll post my first two questions. We may be going to the Montgomery County Shooting Complex today. I came across two websites that had two different closing times listed for them. One said 6pm. Another said "when it gets dark but no later than 8pm". I was curious as to which one is accurate. The Cheatham County Wildlife TWRA range is a second option, but I read that you can't purchase tickets at the range? So where the hell do I buy them from? Ticketmaster?! I think it said to buy them from any TWRA facility, so do I get them from the Stones River range in Smyrna? That seems kind of backwards, but oh well. Looking forward to meeting some new shooters. I haven't searched the boards yet, but may be looking to replace my Hogue stock in the near future, with an AICS or McMillan A5. So if anyone is trying to sell one, keep me in mind. Brent1 point

Just wanted to let everyone know that Middle Tennessee Pawn & Loan in Murfreesboro has a BUNCH of Speer Gold Dot 9mm 124 plus and non-plus P 20 rnd boxes for $25 + tax. I bought one box and went back and bought one more telling them I wanted just one more box before I "told everyone online." Lol They have a bunch of other ammo as well like 223, 380, etc. No .45 auto as of 5-1-2013. Also had a bunch of what looked like VEPR'S AK's for $799.1 point

Government can't make any ex post facto laws, they can't give you data under public domain and then turn around sometime later and say the data is now prohibited. Also, trying to force them to take the data down will result in a lawsuit that the state will loose over 1st amendment grounds. If somebody illegally obtains and then provides the CA with all HCP permit holder records, they can publish it no matter what state law says. (ie Pentagon Papers) The state could come after the person who obtained the information, but couldn't charge/file suit against the paper, or force them to take the information down. And don't get mad at the paper over this, focus on the real root cause of the problem... Why does the state need a list of law abiding citizens exercising their 2nd Amendment rights in the first place? If the state didn't have the information to begin with the CA wouldn't have it either.1 point

All good advice. Another suggestion but not absolutely necessary. Electronic hearing protection is a benefit to hear what's going and range commands. That's about the only time I wear electronic muffs. Another item I use for IDPA is a set of Perry suspenders. Keeps the shirt tucked in, the load comfortably distributed and never need to fidget with my gear. Like stated above, show up to shoot, not watch!1 point

No, he doesn't remember doing any of that because he never did it. Life was different for him 40 years ago. He didn't work 60 hrs/wk at the office and he sure didn't work at home. He maintained the house but the wife did all the cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the kids. So neither does he understand nor does he care to understand. If life is that harried for you (and I'm right there with you), its time to evaluate your priorities and cut some unnecessary stuff out. Its the only way to maintain your sanity.1 point

My pet load for 9x19 is FC case CCI primer 125g round nose tumble lube cast from air cooled wheel weights. Tumble lubed with 45/45/10 3.0g of AA Nitro 100 new formula. Nitro 100 new formula is VERY clean stuff. Be sure to get it right though. If you buy old stock, the old formula is NOT the same. The new stuff is labeled "New Formula". Also, once your tumble lube boolits are dry, take a second to wipe the base across rag. Getting the lube off the base will keep smoke down. Lastly, if you don't know what 45/45/10 is, you need to. If you're lubing with straight mule snot, you're wasting it. Get a good clean bottle and heat some tumble lube until its good and thin. Heat some Johnson's Paste Wax on low heat until its melted and then let it sit there and smoke for a good 15 minutes to cook off the undesirable stuff. Then add some odorless mineral spirits. The porportions of each are 45% Lee tumble lube, 45% JPW, 10% odorless mineral spirits. When you use it, a little goes a long way. A thin film is all it takes. If you're using so much that you can visually tell there's lube all over the boolit, you've probably used way too much. Lastly, when 45/45/10 dries (overnight) you will notice they are no where near as sticky and won't leave as much build up in your seating die. .......I'm no expert, but it works for me. I've fired more than I can count through my Glock and I have no leading, very good accuracy and my idea of cleaning means grease the rails and wipe it off.1 point

I think most of us know the law, but I wouldn’t sell to you unless I knew you. With me it’s not really about the law. I don’t want some pizzed off parents calling me and wanting to know why I sold their kid a gun. The other reason is liability if something went bad. Federal law prohibits a licensed gun dealer from selling to you. A jury in a civil trial wouldn’t think much of a defendant that sold a gun to someone a gun dealer can’t even sell to. That could impact punitive damages. In a year you will be able to buy more gun than you have money for, and that will last the rest of your life.1 point

I don’t claim to be an expert on the laws of all 50 states, but I’m pretty comfortable with my own interpretation of the use of deadly force that I think would protect me from a criminal conviction in all 50 states. If me, or someone around me is in immediate danger of death or great bodily harm; the use of deadly force is justified. While I (as a citizen) would not have fired on him I think the argument could be made that the immediate threat of death or great bodily harm was still in play with the perpetrator of a violent felony running with a gun in his hand. I wouldn’t want to have to go to trial to make that argument; but I don’t think a jury would convict. If I was a cop I would have shot him dead just like the manager did and no one but the usual suspects that always question a cop shooting would have said anything about it. Everyone in the area was in immediate danger of death or great bodily harm when the manager shot him. As far as who fired first; unless the news story are wrong the Manager said he fired his weapon first.1 point

When the military lets atheists decide what's sharing your faith and what's not, how are our armed forces to conduct themselves in combat? Will you be allowed to pray in a foxhole? How about before chow? I'm not talking about sandpapering others into belief in God. That wouldn't do anybody any good if he doesn't believe it from the heart. By the early 1990s, there was a realization that IPSC had become such a game that it no longer had any application to what happens when real shooting breaks out. Thus, some of us who where there when IDPA began back in 1996 are concerned that we are getting away from the first sentence on page 1 of the current rulebook that IDPA is, "..., a shooting sport that simulates self-defense scenarios and real life encounter." In the early IDPA matches the rationale "Would this Happen" and "Would You Do That" in a real gunfight where taken VERY Seriously! The Failure To Do Right was the enforcement hammer to keep everybody in the combat mindset and used often when inappropriate techniques were used by a shooter. Running around using the "IPSC Sprint" support hand off the firearm, strong hand holding the firearm high, arms pumping while RUNNING to the next firing point was often pointed out as an example of what would get FTDR penalties. Today, its starting to look like a track meet at some IDPA matches. The most notorious example was the picture from the 2011 Nationals showing a shooter running to her next firing point with her back to the threats - - - AND holding her firearm over her left shoulder pointing it behind her. After Hackathorn, Rauch, and Vickers left the BoD, the focus on tactics began to slip away. And its worth noting that all three of those guys had been in Gunfights.1 point

The guy was pretty lucky that worked out well for him...could have easily gone the other way. AT the risk of overstating the obvious, not only does it show how quickly this can go down it's also a good reminder of how essential it is that we stay aware of our surroundings; it's a lot safer to avoid a conflict like this than have to escape from it once we are in it!1 point

They said the same thing about mausers but its getting harder and harder to find one in good condition, very hard for some models even though they made them by the boatload. Already thousands of mosins have been cut up. The rate of destruction is alarming. This guy did a far better job than most, but he did actually ruin these guns for any collector. And people DO collect them and seek them out in original condition. Personally, I do not care. You buy it, its yours to destroy -- and I am ok with that. But there is a valid concern about the continued high rate of destruction of such guns, and on top of that, it is pointless. It takes too much money to make one shoot straight -- you could buy a new gun for that amount. And if it does not shoot straight, all the shiny in the world is pointless. Almost all of them need a new barrel if you want to get 2 or less MOA, and if you are not getting that, no matter how pretty, why bother?! If it is one of the rare ones that shoots well, it probably should have been left as a collector due to superior condition, so thats a catch-22.1 point

Nothing you described is what I consider driving stupid so I don't even know how we differ. I never condoned speeding to make people happy. I have an invalid argument? Ok. You do, too. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Edit: I was referring to brake checks and illegally driving under the speed limit solely for the purposes of exacting personal vengeance. I don't know why people keep accusing me of transferring blame or responsibility. Trust me - I'm not one those spoons made me fat people and OBVIOUSLY not one of those guns kill people types. Drive safely, drive legally, drive courteously. This does not include slamming on your brakes or going 15 under the speed limit. I'm simply suggesting that people make the choice to mitigate the situation instead of aggravating it. You know what's worse? Following the two jerks playing that game.1 point
