I just want to extend a warm thank you to Spots and his father for having me and my mom up to visit last Saturday. We got to do some shooting, blow up some tannerite and most importantly of all, they were both gracious enough to open up their homes to us and show us around and answer all our questions. We got to see the forge, the wood shop, Spot's parents house, the whole nine yards. The setup that they have out there is so absolutely awesome, they truly have all they need right there on their land. Spots dad is an amazing guy, even if he doesn't seem to think there's anything amazing about building a beautiful cabin with your own two hands using trees you've felled for yourself, there is. In all the buildings we visited you could quite literally see the family history in all the antiques floating about here and there, many still functional. Anyway, if you ever get the chance to go see Spots, take it. You will not find a better host and all around great guy to kill a few hours with. We were only planning on staying until about 2:00-3:00 and needed up leaving around 5:30 after loosing track of time. Thank you again Spots, we really did have an absolutely fantastic time hanging out with you, and mom is still going on about seeing Steve losing his head. I can't wait until I can get back up there and see you all again.2 points

Guys finds lamp with genie in it, genie says he can have one wish. Guy: I have to go to Hawaii on biz all the time and I'm terrified of flying. I want a bridge all the way over there so I can drive it. Genie: C'mon man, that's quite a damn wish, can't you think of something a bit more reasonable? Guy: Okay, well, I'd like to truly understand my wife. Genie: How many lanes you want on that bridge? - OS2 points

Perhaps you could help by responding to our questions instead of ignoring us. Several of us have asked you to back up your comments because they don't appear to be factual but you choose to ignore us. When you continue to ignore the facts that Andrew presents it makes me question whether or not you want to engage in a healthy debate or push your own agenda.2 points

I'm not calling for punishment or retribution, however, I do think people really need to look at these events and consider if that is really an acceptable course of action by the LEOs. I will tell you, if they knocked on my door and pull me out of my own home with a gun in my face, I would be causing a ruckus over it. I understand that some may consider the circumstances of the man hunt extreme or unique and that the actions of suspect were completely heinous, but that still does excuse the fact that threatened all if those residents with deadly force, entered there homes with force, and had absolutely nothing to show for it. Again, I'm not calling for the punishment of the officers, but I do think this situation requires people to really think about how you you feel had you been in a similar circumstance. Knowing that you had done absolutely nothing wrong, had played no roll in the events, yet you end up with a gun stuck in your face while some dudes rumage through your shit. If you find these events acceptable, would you find it equaly acceptable if your house gets "swatted" while looking for a drug dealer in your neighborhood? Oh, and by the way, they had the wrong address.2 points

Here's a good article from Hot Air that covers the story pretty thoroughly: http://hotair.com/archives/2013/04/21/8th-grader-suspended-arrested-for-wearing-nra-shirt/ My guess is that if the Logan County School system doesnt have a dress code that addresses this (...they dont, i checked, you can google logan county wv school system and find it...); they are in big trouble. There are plenty of pro bono law groups that could take this up if the kids nose is clean, and he is a reasonable, responsible, student and citizen. If he wuz respectful, there wuz a camera recording it all, and he didn't do anything out of the way; the school clowns are inbig trouble. Check this out: http://www.firstamendmentschools.org/freedoms/faq.aspx?id=12991 Logan county, WV is an old time democrat stronghold; but they like guns there too. This one will be interesting to watch. leroy1 point

What I meant by the wrong address was if swat made a move on your house (looking for a dealer or something) and it turns out they had the wrong address, not referring specifically to the Boston mess. I would be pissed that they had the wrong address and ultimately put me and my family in danger not to mention the possibility of violation of rights and all that good stuff. I was trying to draw the parallel of such a case to what happened in Boston but to a different scale. I get that you're a cop of some sort, so you probably see this all in a different light. You say it could happen in my neighborhood, and all I'm saying is that I don't think such actions should happen in any neighborhood. As I said before, the actions in question did not apprehend the suspect. Therefore, I think they were unnecessary, exposed too many people to risk, and should be examined to consider of such actions should be taken in the future. What was done, is done. All I'm saying is that there should be some strong questions raised as to how a similar scenario should be handled in the future.1 point

After Zimmerman wins his case (knock wood), I would very much like to see him initiate a multi-million-dollar civil suit against the deep pockets of the major media, the race shysters, and others for damages, pain and suffering. Then, I hope he picks an excellent ghostwriter who can write up the whole story and earn him millions of dollars more. It's in my dreams, but I also think that reality would support it. I would like to see this type of attack shut down in the future due to the risk of severe financial damage to the perpetrators of such schemes and have it reinforced with appropriate State and Federal legislation.1 point

The story will probably have a typical liberal happy ending: gun buyback.1 point
-
I suspect that there are more than a few people who carry a firearm who have never truly considered the potential "costs" associated with using it; even if they are completely justified in doing so. Thankfully, in Tennessee we do have pretty good protection against civil suits if a shooting is determined to be justified but that doesn't mean you won't go through hell until that decision is made. One thing that is clear to me is that this case is hardly typical - you have a press falling all over themselves to paint this as a white man killing a sweet little black boy even to the point of describing Zimmerman as a "white-Hispanic", the Sharpton/Jackson circus coming to town, the DA shopping (after the original DA didn't see a case against Zimmerman), deciding not to go the the GJ that they had already booked (apparently ih fear of getting a no bill)...Zimmerman has been railroaded almost from the very beginning. I would hope that most of use would not have to face the kind of lynch mob Zimmerman has had to but we should probably be as prepared for it as we can.1 point

Liberal idiot quote from comments " Such a false sense security. Exactly how would a person carrying a weapon keep some one else from taking the gun from them.? To carry a weapon should require one to know martial art" Gunfighting rule. Make your attacker advance through a hail of bullets. He might kill me with my own gun, but hes going to have to beat me to death with it because it'll be empty. A gun is an equalizer. An 80 yr old woman doesn't have the strength or health to fight. Thats why she carries a firearm. Sent from the backwoods of Nowhere1 point

So typical these days. If you don't agree with the masses around here something is wrong with you. I won't be saying alot, but I also won't be ignoring anyone because they don't agree with me. This thread will be interesting to read. It only needed one opinion, then everyone else could +1 or say amen.1 point

Why do you care? This is discussion forum on a deadly force issue and I am discussing the case. Do the personal attacks with you never get old? Some of us are discussing the case while you feel the need to address why we have the views we have. These are the hottest threads on this forum right now. I’m sure you would like to see those that have a view other than yours silenced; but I doubt that will happen. Of course not I have seen it happen more than once. Remove all statements by all investigators on either side and leave me with Zimmerman’s statements and the 911 call; and my opinions do not change. Do I think Zimmer is guilty of second degree murder? No, I believe his actions were reckless and led to the death of an innocent citizen. I think he is guilty of manslaughter. Does my opinion matter? Nope. Will you or anyone else get me to put my stamp of approval on Zimmerman murdering Martin? Not unless I see something come out of this trial that leads me to believe Zimmerman was justified in getting out of his truck and chasing that kid down. But none of that matters. Zimmerman will live or die because of his actions on that day; the verdict one way or the other won’t change that.1 point

I want to second what 10 Ring said in his post above. It aint been so long ago that i drove the "dragon" pretty regularly. Be advised that what 10 Ring said is what ya better do if ya want to stay down here in this old world. Any advanced idiocy or miscalculation (...like meeting an opposing vehicle in the wrong lane can and most likely will be fatal for someone...). The hillside is steep, the road is narrow, theres no place to go to avoid a head-on crash, and there aint a good way to get to ya if you are hurt or need to be lifted out somehow. Runnin off the road up there will most likely be fatal, especially for small cars and motorcycles. The THP and the NC State Police used to watch it pretty heavily, and they will punish the foolish. Remember, up there, the life you save could well be your own. This is a public service message from folks who used to drive this stretch of road regularly. It is, indeed, a very dangerous and unforgiving place. leroy1 point

So you agree that the invasive tactics used by the LEOs are not what located the suspect but rather an observant civilian who alerted police? If that is true, how can you argue in support of the tactics used by the LEOs? I know hindsight is 20/20, but having this hindsight and knowing that there tactics did not produce results, it is not unreasonable to say that the searches were an unnecessary invasion of privacy and perhaps violation of constitutional rights.1 point

I travel the road every single day. Sometimes by bike, sometimes by car. Please, if you go, 1) Stay in your lane, 2) Use the pull offs, if someone is behind you and they were not a minute ago that means they are faster than you, using one of the 108 (really there are 108 of them) paved pull offs is the courteous thing to do. 3) Ride your own ride at a pace you are comfortable with, if your adrenaline is flowing you are pushing yourself and endangering everyone else on the road.1 point

This bullshit again?????? Here you go: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/62043-dhs-purchases-2700-light-armored-tanks/ and to save you some time (even though he went through and edited his article, the numbers haven't changed): http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/03/robert-farago/the-truth-about-the-dhs-mraps/ Its not 2700 vics. And it's not 1.6 Billion rounds of ammunition. That was cleared up. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/04/26/reps-challenge-dhs-ammo-buys-say-agency-using-1000-more-rounds-per-person-than/ 1.3k-ish per person? I laugh at that. Sounds like a good weekend or a pistol course or two. 350 for the Army? Sounds about right.....and thats fucking embarrassing. The only reason I'm able to shoot as much as I can is that I'm in Afghanistan.....and I'm still having trouble sourcing 9mm. 9mm in Garrison is even worse. Who falls under DHS for this training/duty ammo? CBP, ICE, Air Marshals, USSS, FLETC, Coast Guard, INS, etc. There are a lot of agencies who need to train. Don't cry foul when they ask for ammo . Its also an IDIQ contract, not a purchase order. Also, this "retired" Captain....what's his deal? I would love, love, love to read his OER's. Just reading the last entry on his bio makes me wonder: http://combatsoldier.wordpress.com/about/ He was NOT in the 82nd.1 point
