This happened in a little town in South Central Kansas, and even though it sounds like an Alfred Hitchcock tale, it’s true. I was on the side of the road hitchhiking on a very dark night in the middle of a terrible rainstorm, and no cars were on the road. The storm was so strong I could hardly see a few feet ahead of me. Suddenly, I saw a car come towards me and stop. Without thinking about it, I got in the car and closed the door and only then did I realize that there was nobody behind the wheel! The car started to move very slowly. I looked at the road and saw a curve coming up. Petrified, I started to pray, begging for my life. I had not yet come out of shock when, just before the car hit the curve, a hand suddenly appeared through the window and moved the steering wheel. Now paralyzed in terror, I watched how the hand appeared every time the car was approaching a curve. Finally, although terrified, I managed to open the door and jump out of the spooky car. Without looking back, I cut across country and ran through the storm all the way to the nearest town. Soaking wet, exhausted and in a state of utter shock and shaking visibly from my recent harrowing experience, I went into the first bar I came to and ordered two shots of Scotch. Then, still trembling with fright, I started telling everybody in the bar about the horrible experience I'd just gone through with the spooky car with no driver and the mysterious hand that kept appearing. Everyone in the bar listened in silence and I could see that they, too, were becoming frightened hearing my eerie story. Hair stood on end when they realized I was telling the truth because tears streaked my face and I definitely was not drunk! About half an hour later two guys walked into the bar where I was still trying to regain my wits and one pointed at me and said to the other, “Hey, there’s the sonuvabitch who jumped into the car while we were pushin it!†:leaving:6 points

It sounds like those knives were obviously there with the intent of cleaning fish but in this case it is common sense that is getting gutted. I am coming to believe that the zero tolerance crap is not only intended to condition the nation's youth to pee their pants any time they see anything that could remotely be a weapon but also to discourage things like hunting and fishing. You'd think that friggin' PETA was running the country.6 points

I had an obscure part break on one of my Dillon powder measures last week. I couldn't even see a parts breakdown to find the name of the part. So I told them the funnel like cast piece that screws on the #2 expansion powder loading die. Thingy, whatzit cast thing. I got an email today saying the part was on the way. Went out to the mailbox a few minutes later and there it was. It's actually a "Body Collar Complete" in the rare event it breaks again. This isn't the first time I've gone back to Dillon for a problem and their response is always the same. Fast service, no bs replacement of anything that breaks at no cost. It's hard to beat a warranty like that. Cherokee Slim3 points

You know our Founding Fathers are probably talking among themselves asking this question. How much are you people going to take before you say NO MORE, NOT 1 MORE INCH. If you know anything about Nazi Germany, this is beginning to look very similar. You have the intelligent, well mannered people that just don't want to fight back, they are better natured than that, they prefer to use the voting polls, but this doesn't work when your opponents can constantly increase their numbers by giving them YOUR money. It makes me mad on 1 side, sick to my stomach on the other. Hussein and his Gestapo police force, park rangers and such are pushing their weight around, shutting us out of boat ramps, public parks, c'mon people wake up and smell it, if it looks like dog sh!t, smells like dog sh!t, then it probably is. Let us all make our Founding Fathers proud and vote these A$$ES out. The Founding fathers never for a moment thought there would be career politicians. They intended for someone to leave his business, work FOR their country and go back to their business. But comes along a bunch of LAZY, GREEDY, SLEAZY, LYING, THIEVING career politicians that are not working FOR their country, they are trying to destroy it and they will do as good of a job as we allow them. GO vote, encourage all your friends and family to vote, starting in your local elections, then state, then Federal we can make a difference!! GOD BLESS AMERICA!!2 points

This type of crap is really pissing me off. I think there is a fundamental problem with this "zero tolerance" bullshit and it's this: Any time you have a government, and a school district is a government, you have three functions, Legislative - the school board, Executive - the school administration and Judicial. Right now, in most school systems, the Judicial function is being performed by the Executive. That is a prescription for TYRANNY. Zero Tolerance is a hateful, demagogic, tyrannical concept. School districts need to set up an independent Judicial function. Staff it with parents or grandparents, retired administrators, and former school board members, or such. Otherwise, stupid crap like this is going to end up in the regular court system, as our system of government calls for the opportunity for redress.2 points

It’s time to make people do their jobs. Is a kid bringing a knife to school in a fishing tackle box the same as a thug carrying his switchblade in school? No, they are not the same and should not be treated the same. Take discretion away from teachers and law enforcement and this is what you will get; zero tolerance. It sucks and it’s because some people are too lazy or scared to do their jobs. Felony my azz, the Police officers and the DA (if this kid is charged) should be ashamed.2 points

I built my first lower with no problems whatsoever. I picked up an excellent book by Walt something (can't remember the name offhand) and it had lots of pics along with easy to follow instructions. I'm really not that mechanically inclined, but it was super easy. I did have the right tools.....the roll pin punches and roll pin starter punches really make a difference. When it comes time to install the little springs that can launch on you, I used a big clear plastic bag (it was one of those bags that quilts and comforters come in) and although I launched the detent spring three times before I got it in right, I didn't lose it! My advice to someone building their first lower: Don't be intimidated, get the right tools and some good instructions and you'll have a working lower in 2-3 hours. Good luck!2 points

From experience I can agree that cracking off a couple rounds inside a vehicle without ear pro is something you will remember forever. But imagine from a LEO and potentially a jury's perspective when you try to explain that you were in fear for your life......oh and for my hearing too. Having time to put ear pro in, or even slip on a pair of handy muffs, in any SD situation short of a zombie apocalypse just doesn't play right. On that topic, I think it bears remembering how the train wreck of the Zimmerman case played out. The prosecution grasped at anything they could to demonize what most of us would consider somewhat "normal". They tried to turn his very limited Martial Arts training into him practically being a Ninja, despite his instructor saying that he sucked. They tried to make his handgun out to be a death dealing machine because it "gasp" had no safeties, despite it being a mediocre Kel-Tek that many would not even rely on for defensive purposes. While I 100% agree with the adage "it's better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6", I think that its especially important in this day and age to keep in mind the perception you set up for yourself should the need ever arise. While I would be much more comfortable having my AR, shotgun, and several reloads for each in my car every time I have to venture toward Nashville, I realize that {for now} the likelihood of me needing those does not outweigh the likelihood of me getting in a SD shoot with my carry handgun and having the fact that I had said weapons in my vehicle escalate the situation into something beyond a simple SD case. I'm not saying I like it, condone it, or even understand it, I'm just saying that's todays reality. Now a situation at your home is entirely different, electric fences and piranha filled moats should be the norm. In response to the OP's inquiry, I suffice with 7+1 in my carry gun, a mag of 7 in my off hand front pocket, and a mag of 10 in a "custom cut" piece of foam in my driver's door map pocket. The foam keeps the spare mag in place and oriented correctly for a fast reload. And remember your vehicle is also a 3,000lbs or more self defense tool. The silver lining of this biker punk fiasco in New York is that it has started some national dialogue among the sheep and the prepared alike. Now that most people have seen what these groups are capable of and willing to do, the statement "in fear for my life" might mean something. And hopefully the ass clown that bashed in the driver's window (and those that would consider similar actions) realize that in most other states he would now have a canoe for a head....2 points

Well it's October and that means Halloween and that also means Ghost Stories. I'm not much of a believer in the idea that when a person dies their soul can remain here on Earth. Being raised in a Christian home, my belief is that people have one of two destinations when they die and remaining on Earth isn't one of them. That being said, I find it intriguing that there are plenty of cases where "ghosts" seem to be actually a documented phenomena. Whether they are human souls or something else, I'm curious how many folks here have ever had a ghostly experience of their own. Share your stories? Or share stories you've heard? :ph34r:1 point

The cliff notes from my little write up here: - Don't give up on a gun. It can be adjusted. - Don't be afraid to take things apart. - Always thoroughly clean your gun. - Always test your magazines with each gun. First off let me say I'm not a gunsmith but I'm not afraid to take things apart. Being an engineer I think I have quite a knack for understanding how things work. And as a long time shooter, I know how much crud can accumulate in the cracks and crevices of our guns. So I've always been quite OCD about cleaning my guns after every trip to the range or competition. With that said, I had one that was stumping me. I picked up a Para Black Ops 1911 from a fellow TGO'er earlier this year and love the feel of this gun. It's definitely in the keeper pile. I took it to the range a few times and loved how it shot. Being a "match grade" pistol it performed as it should. Tight tolerances proved tight groups. Fast forward a few months and I decide to make the change from shooting IDPA ESP to IDPA CDP, and the gun to do it would be the Para. That's when things started going downhill. From the start I was plagued with failure to feed (FTF) issues. I was stumped. I never had this issues on the previous range trips. So I went back to review the videos and I didn't see any limp-wristing. Well after a few matches, and yesterday's match in particular, I'd had enough. After three stages I declared a bad gun and used my Sig 1911 for the final two stages without a hiccup. Hmm, doesn't seem like it's me causing the issue. The overall problem I experience is a FTF where the live round is jammed with the base of the bullet barely in the extractor and the bullet jammed into the top of the battery. I changed mags, changed ammo, and thought about shooting upside down, but nothing made a difference. This was happening on the first round, last round, and everything in between. - Note, not my photo. When I got home I visually compared the Para against the Sig. Obviously these two pistols are quite unique in their own ways. But I looked at dimensions, how it feeds on the barrel ramp (Para) vs frame ramp (Sig), and how the extractor and ejectors worked. All about the same but one thing I did notice was the extractor tension was noticeably more on the Para than the Sig. The Sig was "loose". I was scouring the net last night and I looked up extractor tuning, finding all kinds of things. The biggest take away was extractors should be removed and checked every 500-700 rounds for tension and dirt. Several places also talked about extractor tension; if your extractor is too loose you will experience stove pipes and if the extractor is too tight you will experience failure to feed. Ahh, a light goes off. If my extractor is too tight, when the bullet is released from the magazine it can't slide up under the extractor far enough, and by the time it hits the ramp, the nose of the bullet jams into the top of the battery. The next step was to perform some simple shake tests and then remove the extractor to adjust. When using an empty case, the extractor definitely held the case tight, and when moving the case to the lower point of the slide to simulate initial feeding, I couldn't shake the case out. The tests show you should be able to do this. So the extractor must be too tight. I also did the same test with the Sig and it dropped the loose round at the bottom test as it should. Not knowing much about the Para, I set out to remove the extractor. That was easy enough, just like every other 1911, but rather than extracting your typical flat spring type ejector, out comes this crazy looking contraption with a spring, tube, and hinged extractor. A little research and this is known as the Para Power Extractor. New to me. Anyways, there is obviously no way to adjust the tension on this thing. However, I started to inspect and wipe it down and there must have been a pound of crud all over the extractor unit as a whole, and lots of junk in the claw. I cleaned it well, reassembled the slide, and started my feed tests again. I filled a magazine, and very safely began racking. I would quickly pull the slide all the way back and release it to simulate, as best I could, an actual power stroke. Immediately I could tell a difference. For one it didn't fail. I fed an entire magazine through with no failures. I did this test three or four times and not once did I have a failure. So then on the next few magazines I performed the cycle slowly so I could watch the round feed from the magazine into battery. Smooth as silk. I couldn't believe it. Every time I would do this test prior to cleaning it would jam. I mean every time. While I was excited about the results, my tests didn't stop there. If I'm going to use this for competition I knew I needed to test my magazines. During all of my prior tests I was using a Sig magazine that had been working the "best" with the the Para. Wilson magazines performed horribly. So I began testing the Wilson mags in the same fashion as the Sig mag. To make a long story a bit shorter, fast or slow cycle, the 8rd Wilson magazines would feed fine until the last round. The last round would ALWAYS jam in the same way it had before. The spring tension, follower, or release point or something is different once it gets to the last round. It is important to note the 7rd Wilson magazine does not have this problem. To wrap up, I still have to get the Para back out to the range to put everything to the test. But I'm feeling quite a bit more confident in putting this gun back into my competition bag. Moral of the story, always be religious about cleaning your gun down to the smallest crack, check your magazines, and don't give up.1 point

HA HA HA You dang near talked me into it.......then my wife walked in the room and that's a rage I don't want unleashed on me after I say, "Honey, I quit so I can hunt!" Actually if my boss wasn't on vacation, I have no doubt that if I said "Hey, it's gonna be a great day to hunt tomorrow. I know it's late notice, but can I have the day off?" If there wasn't something absolutely necessary for me to be involved in, i.e. meetings/visitors/SHTF, he'd let me have it. Yep, and of course there was no state in which Romney got no votes. Seems once Bersaguy decides something is a fact, it's a fact, and I've never seen him return to a thread when challenged to support or relent on an averred point either. :) He's posted that TN HCP is tied to license plate for example, over and over, even after LEOs have tried to clue him in. Etc. I would like to suggest to him that he'd get more credence regarding his mentions of "marshal" law if he'd use the proper word, but I know it won't take. :) :) - OS1 point

I know this may be a little off the mark but definitely falls political correctness. About 6 years ago I was driving past the Lowes here in Gallatin around Christmas time. They had about 100 live trees out front with a big banner that said "HOLIDAY TREES FOR SALE". I decided to go in and stir some stuff so I looked inside and the artificial trees where also labeled Holiday Trees. I asked a guy where I could get a Christmas tree and he pointed at the Artificial trees and said right there and we have live ones out side. I politely told him I wanted a Christmas tree and not a holiday tree. I then ask to see the manager and I took him down that same road. I final made him so mad he shouted at me that Lowes does not sell Christmas Trees and walked away. There was couple looking at the artificial trees and when he said that they walked out just in front of me. Out side the guy looked at me and thanked me and I said for what and he said for saying what I wanted to say but wife would not let me. Well, you know the old kick the horse after it's dead deal, right? On New Years eve I went to Lowes and asked to buy a holiday tree and the guy said what for Christmas is over and I said I didn't want a Christmas Tree, I wanted one of those Holiday Trees they had on sale about 10 days ago. The guy knew where I was going and he called management to the front of the store. Yep same guy.......lol. He took one look at me and asked the clerk what I wanted and he told him and he just turned around and walked away. I went to Lowes on New Years, Presidents day, MLK Birthday, Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Arbor day, Veterans day and the best part is I had friends on all sides of Nashville doing the same thing. Finally I had to go to Lowes and actually buy something else and the manager walked up and handed me a letter from the Corporate Office telling him that from now on Lowes will sell Christmas Trees and not Holiday Trees. That year and every year since all the banners at all the Lowes around Nashville sold Christmas Trees. I don't know if it went across the country r not but we sure got it changed here. I know it was probably a small victory but I was happy that I had won an argument pertaining to political correctness......... :up:1 point

No reason to talk yourself out of it. Great day of shooting with lots of stages that day. All you need is IDPA membership and the classifier on 10/19. You will be set. We will have a regular 5 stage match on the 10/19 also. Don won the match in its first year but pulled a no show the next year. Then he picked up 3 gun and never went back to defend his title in SSP.1 point

One other option might be the Sig Mosquito -- but started my son out on a little Colt Frontier Scout, which he still loves to shoot and with which he has started his kids out on. I have a Mosquito, and like it. It's near enough to the full-size Sigs to look like Dad's, while small enough for smaller hands. If a semi- is your choice, then you couldn't go far wrong with either a Ruger or a Sig. But if fun is your object, it's hard to beat a "cowboy" six-shooter. Fun AND with the single-actions, pretty safe (and easy to load/unload and clean). Whatever your choice, it's the most fun we ever had -- 22s and targets, plastic bottles, balloons, etc. And now, I'm getting to do it all over again with the grands. Life is good!1 point

I have a small yeti and a large coleman. For longer canoe trips I often pack the yeti with things I want towards the end of the trip freezing what I can and occasionally adding dry ice to keep the temp even lower. I'm in and out of the large coleman getting drinks/bait/food for the first few days and slowly it's ice all melts away and it gets lighter and lighter. By the time it's ice is gone so are the drinks and food that was in it and now it's just a storage box. The little yeti often hasn't been opened up until this point so it has an unfair advantage but there it is 6 or 7 days into the trip and i can pull out unspoiled milk and fresh steaks. With dry ice it's also good for ice cream on weekend trips, nothing wigs out boaters on the river quite the same way as floating by quietly in a canoe eating an ice cream cone miles from the nearest put in or dock. I looked at just getting one larger yeti but no way I'm lugging a 50 lbs when empty cooler around for any distance after the ice melts.1 point

Ok, yep, it's all over with now. This has got to be the most assinine, insidious assault on American senses so far. Sheesh! Hell, we had a kid who was permanently on crutches who played tag with us in 2nd grade and the only difference was that sometimes we'd deliberately slow down a little or "accidentally slip" when he got close to us, or miss tagging him by an inch or two, so we could nail someone else. No one wants to be a loser?! Call the freakin wa-a-a-a-a-a-mbulance! The only losers we had were the ones who wouldn't play and if you made an effort (like the kid on the crutches who always tried harder than anyone else), then you were at least equal, no matter how many times you were tagged. All I can say is we'd better hope to God that aren't any wars when this generation grows up because the first time someone throws dirt on their combat boots the America of the future is going to start crying and whining and saying, "That's not fair, I quit!!!" and someone else who was taught from childhood that life isn't fair will take over and it'll be the end. I'm convinced now that that day is coming. I just hope that I'm not around to see it because I don't think I'll be able to stand the heartbreak... :shake:1 point

So good in fact, that I got him a Ruger MK III Hunter and put a red dot on it for him. Kids love the red dots!!! The MK II's and III's are great because they will eat any old cheap ammo that you put through them. It seems like many of the .22 autos are finicky when it comes to ammo.1 point

I know that I may be in the minority, I simply do not sell or trade guns. In my opinion, the risk is too great. I use to be FFL dealer 20 years ago, and was very familiar with the laws and risks long before the internet. Though its not against the law to sell or trade occasionally, the burden if its a legal sell/trade is you the owner. You can ask the questions, you can have the bill of sale, all of which is subject to heavy scrutiny if one of your guns come back on you, and after several thousands of dollars to retain an attorney, go through the spill, you will likely win, but was it worth the $50-$100 you made on the sale or flip, or the $500 of gun trade for that gun you wanted, and either you were to cheap to buy it out right, or just didn't have the money to begin with. It just is not worth it. Again, I know I am in the minority. This stance by me has not stopped my indulging in guns, its one of the reasons that I have amassed a good kitty. One side benefit is that I do not fit in that category of the one gun I loved once that I traded away.1 point
