None of my deer play like that, they are a bunch of shady SOB's. A friend and I camped out on my land last Friday night so We wouldn't have to get up so early to hunt on Saturday. I slepped in my hammock and he slepped in a tent. Anyways, during the middle of the night, I woke up and had to pee really badly. So I just rolled over to the side of the hammock and started going. Well, evidently there was a doe within like 30-40 yards or so because she started snorting and stomping like crazy! She was snorting so much and so loudly that it woke my friend up in his tent. Haha! Annnnd that was the closest we came to a deer that weekend. Ha3 points

Four Classic 22 Rifles I bought these four 22 rifles last week. Remington Matchmaster 513-T Lyman sights. Built 1940-68. I think this is a 1941. Marlin 39A 1954 Remington Model 24 22short Semiauto. Lyman sights. Breaks down with no tools in seconds. 1922-35. Tube comes out of stock. Stevens Little Scout Model 14 1/2. Single shot LR, rolling breech lock. 1909-1936. This semiauto 24 with easy break down is really a cool John Browning design. About 75 years old. Lyman sight on The Matchmaker. Calibrated to 200 yards. Very heavy target rifle in VG condition. These haven't been fired in years but are in good to very good condition. I have been having fun taking them down, learning about the respective mechanisms, and cleaning them up. Bores are all good to excellent. I think the resale value is easily double to triple based on my research.2 points

I know I don't really know most of you but I also know that there are probably some of you who only tollerate me because my picture of Millie as my avatar for most of my time here made you think I wasn't all bad. :) Anyway...I though I would share this as I had to let her go late yesterday afternoon... -------------------- Over a period of about three weeks, my little girl, “Millie†the basset hound went from a full of life and beautiful girl and love of my life to being a very ill little girl. I noticed her appetite starting to wane the last week of September. I didn’t think a lot of it at the time because it wasn’t all that unusual for something to upset her stomach and for her to forgo a meal or two or even three before returning to gobbling up her breakfast and dinner. Into the second week I was getting concerned; changed her dog food to see if she would eat more and that seemed to work for few days. I boarded here at my vet’s facility (her usual place) the first weekend of October (Friday through Sunday afternoon October 4-6, 2013) because I was out of town and noted my concerns to the staff – when I picked her up on Sunday afternoon they said she hadn’t eaten much on Thursday but seemed to eat normally Saturday. I took her home and she did seem to eat okay then stopped eating again by Monday…I started supplementing her food with canned and for a couple of days, that worked but she was obviously getting worse. I took her into my vet’s office on Thursday the 10th and had many different tests run; all of which seemed to indicate a problem with her liver. We started her on medication in hopes that it was an infection that could be treated. Initially, Millie took the medicine and she ate well for about a day or so but by Saturday, she was throwing up a lot and finally, by Sunday, refused to eat anything at all. I took her into Dr. Barker on Monday morning and x-rays showed a large mass near her liver. On my vet’s recommendation I took her to another facility so that we could have an ultrasound done - it took only a few minutes for the ultrasound to confirm both the mass and many tumors throughout her liver and spleen. There was no choice; no right choice anyway except to let her go and ease her pain but nothing is ever going to ease the pain or fill the huge empty hole in my heart. I can’t even begin to describe how much I loved that long-eared, droopy-eyed bundle of unconditional love…she was my pal…she was my best friend…she was my little girl…my “Sweet P†and I’ll always love, miss and remember her. Rest in peace my sweet little girl - I lost you far too soon and I'll always love you. ------------------------------2 points

I consider myself a crusty old man and tough as nails to many things but ever so often something proves different. The post 6.8 made today brought back a video I seldom watch any more because The crusty old tough as nails guy cannot hold up and I have tears rolling down my cheeks before the video is over. I was so touched by 6.8's video that I thought I would share another one. Hope it touches ya'll like it does me. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=70Ikj1hZDnw&feature=related2 points

I remember leaving my class ten years ago thinking, "Wow, I really, really don't want to be forced to shoot someone" after being told what would likely happen if we were ever involved in a shooting. I think that was a good attitude to instill in HCP holders. Sure, you don't want to hesitate if your life is in danger, but you don't want to put yourself in a position to potentially escalate a conflict with a cowboy attitude. Anyway, good luck with your classes... teach them to be responsible and make the rest of us HCP holders proud!2 points

I see several sizes from letter and legal and bigger, yeah, but does look like they may have been cranked off just a passel of different laser and poster sized printers and put in plastic sleeves, some maybe laminated, probably from all over the nation and the world. Seems to be one main "official" design, plus all the permanent closed signs that the various parks and other areas already had for regular use whenever they're closed for other reasons. Like nightly in many cases. https://www.google.com/search?q=US+parks+closed+signs&newwindow=1&client=firefox-a&hs=IxJ&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=-RBeUsPaNo3xkQeC6IGoAg&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1397&bih=710 I'd say everybody cranked them out on all kinds of printers in a thousand different offices. They have printers in other countries too it's rumored, and a PDF of the sign can get there pert quick what with that InterWebNet thang and all. :) :) - OS2 points

Think on a grander scale (in case you travel). Would a reasonable person (that means a jury; not you) believe they were in immediate danger of death or great bodily harm? That is pretty much the test in all of the states I am aware of. If the word immediate or the seriousness of the threat becomes an issue; you may find yourself in criminal court. Somewhere along the line some folks got the idea that some laws created free fire zones. They decided to start using the words Castle Doctrine. Guess how long that term has been around. It doesn’t give you a free pass to kill someone in your home; it is a principal that removes the duty to retreat and assumes you are acting in self-defense. If a Prosecutor has evidence that can show you were not acting in self-defense he can use that to remove that assumption. Bottom line is if you are protecting yourself from a real threat you will probably be okay. If the person is running away or you are protecting property; you may have a problem. There are not (legally) any free fire zones. Of course every case Is different, and people will see them differently.2 points

Robert,My condolences go out to you and everyone close to her. Nothing can describe the loyalty a pet has to its owner.I painfully regret hearing of your loss. Knowing our pets are always gods little creatures that we've been blessed with,I hope you find that new lil friend that will benefit from the good life you had with Millie. I find it interesting that if you are going to drink any amount of alcohol apparently you no longer have the ability to defend yourself with the best tool available. In this example the cop smelled beer on his breath. I doubt it had been any length of time since he had consumed. I seriously doubt anyone can not be under the influence after drinking a 12 pack. There certainly are people who can drink large amounts and not show outward ill effect due to their experience as a drinker. But they are still under the influence.2 points

Don't anyone take this the wrong way, as no one is more patriotic, appreciative and proud of our troops than I, and the sacrifices and loss by their families. If you remember your history, many people just after the Revolutionary War felt exactly the same way, as the war widows and orphans had no means of support after losing the bread winner and their source or support. Many, many war widows and orphans were starving and lost their homes and were reduced to accepting charity. There was a great out cry and a bill was introduced to Congress to compensate the widows and orphans for their loss. It was re-soundly debated and defeated by our founding fathers. Not because they were cold hearted and didn't care, as a matter of fact, they passed the hat. No, they defeated it because they knew if they made an exception to the provisions outlined in the new Constitution where it would eventually lead. Look at where we are today with all the entitlement programs. From a Constitutional Republic perspective, it's not the governments job to provide for anyone, it's their job to provide us the opportunity and keep the nation running and safe. It's our job, responsibility and privilege as citizens to help and support our veterans and their families generously. The Wounded Warrior Project and others are excellent and efficient organizations run better than anything the government could put together. I'm a 20 year combat veteran myself, an like I said, no one has more compassion for the soldier and their families than I but, we bare responsibility as citizens for the well being of our veterans and their families, not Washington.1 point

Our condolences to you. We've been down this road a couple of times and it is always a challenge. And yet as difficult as it is to lose one, I'll trade that brief sorrow for the years of unconditional love in a heartbeat. In our case, after a few weeks or a few months we always decided that we missed the pitter patter of little feet on the floor and were ready to adopt another 4 legged member into the family. The two we have now are both rescues and while we love them both dearly, we still talk about and miss the ones who came before them. They will always be part of our lives and our hearts. As I know Millie will always be part of yours. Our thoughts are with you!1 point

RIP Millie, you are missed. Condolences, Robert. It'll never get better, but it will get easier. Funny how when one's heart is full there's room enough for the whole world, but when it's empty there isn't room for even the tiniest grain of sand... I can't say anything to make it any easier, only time will do that. In the mean time... we're all here and thinking of you and wishing we could do the impossible and a little of us hurts along with you. Peace, friend. :sadwave:1 point

Well if I am not mistaken doesn't Diane Frankenstein and Gabby Giffords husband and about 90% of all the other Anti-Gunners at one time or another admitted that they own guns themselves. I have read where many of them are gun owners. I guess this falls under the category of "Do as I say, Not as I do." huh???? I would be willing to bet that most of the Justices on the Supreme Court carry on along with most of the people in Congress when not in Washington with the body guards.....jmho1 point

First let me say I am not advocating one way or the other the consumption of alcohol or the carry of a firearm. Here are the applicable laws. 39-17-1321. Possession of handgun while under influence -- Penalty. (a) Notwithstanding whether a person has a permit issued pursuant to § 39-17-1315 or § 39-17-1351, it is an offense for a person to possess a handgun while under the influence of alcohol or any controlled substance or controlled substance analogue. (b) It is an offense for a person to possess a firearm if the person is both: (1) Within the confines of an establishment open to the public where liquor, wine or other alcoholic beverages, as defined in § 57-3-101(a)(1)(A), or beer, as defined in § 57-6-102(1), are served for consumption on the premises; and (2) Consuming any alcoholic beverage listed in subdivision (b)(1). (c ) (1) A violation of this section is a Class A misdemeanor. (2) In addition to the punishment authorized by subdivision (c)(1), if the violation is of subsection (a), occurs in an establishment described in subdivision (b)(1), and the person has a handgun permit issued pursuant to § 39-17-1351, such permit shall be suspended in accordance with § 39-17-1352 for a period of three (3) years. Part (a) deal with "being under the influence" and applies anywhere, there is an AG opinion saying that you can you be charged even if in your own home. If you read Part (b) both subparts (1)&(2) have to be met for "consumption" to be illegal. So if you are at home (not open to the public) or not in the confines of a building "consumption" itself is not illegal. What constitutes "under the influence" is strictly up to the LEOs discretion though. IMO and I think the general consensus of the group has been, if you are legal to drive you should be ok to carry. I think a LEO would have a tough argument saying he thought you were too intoxicated to carry a firearm, but let you drive off in a vehicle, or vice versa for that matter.1 point

I guess it seems to me that a "no-firearm's" sign (whether under current law where there is the posibility of a criminal charge or after a change in the law) should be enough that the business owner (or whoever is in charge) shouldn't have to confront and individual just to tell him to leave as that person who entered the business anyway shouldn't have done so in the first place. :shrug:1 point
-
Even if signs did not carry the force of law (i.e. even if Tennessee's laws were changed to match those of some other states) a business will and IMHO should always have the right to ban firearms inside of their business - to deny them that right is, in my opinion, just as abhorant to the concepts of freedom and liberty as banning individuals the right to carry arms or to protest their government. No one's rihghts, even the RTKABA can be allowed to dominate over other rights...rights must strike a balance for all or they are meaningless for all.1 point
