I was having a beer or 3 tonight and thought I'd share this. Doesn't have a great ending or anything but here goes........ I had to go recliner shopping this evening. My old friend of the past 6 years went to the 'man cave in the sky' earlier today. As I was trying out a suitable replacement an older couple walked by followed by what I guessed was their son. I flopped the footrest down and we exchanged a hello as they walked by. Now I'm deep in thought about making such an important purchase. This recliner isn't about me, it's about the dog. Is there enough room for him to lay beside me without me having to sit on the opposite arm of the chair so I'm not touching him? Will he have enough of a landing pad when he jumps from 10 feet away running at 100 mph? Is the footrest big enough for him to lay sideways on his back exposing his kibbles and bits for the world to see? Still I manage to notice something. The son is wearing scrubs and semi pocket carrying a revolver, a big revolver. How do you semi pocket carry you ask?? You grip the big ass gun and stick most of it in your pocket. Next you leave the grip exposed above your pocket. How does the gun not just fall in or out of your pocket? You never take your hand off the grip is how!! I'm watching this guy walking around with a partially exposed gun in his hand. I'm not gonna lie, when I first saw this it was hard to keep my hand from finding it's way under my shirt and on to the grip of my Kimber. So I stand there for a minute looking at this guy. When his Dad asked him something it was "yes sir". He's helping his mom by holding her purse while she fondles something. He's holding the purse with his left hand, right hand never comes off the grip. He sets the purse down and helps her sit on a chair she likes. Again, never lets go of what looks like a big S&W. Dad asked him another question, "yes sir". I'm thinking...seems like a nice guy but what the hell. So I ask. Me: What ya got in your pocket? Him: Ahhh...S&W revolver. Me: Looks kinda big. Him: Yeah, a 629. Left my carry gun home. This is my truck gun. Me: Nice. Why you carrying it like that? Him: Didn't have a holster with me. Me: Guess you don't have enough pocket for it. Him: Pocket has a hole in it. Me: What?? Him: My pocket has a hole in it. Me: LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL Him: No, really. There's a hole in my pocket and that's why I'm holding on to it. I've absolutely lost it laughing at this point because he's serious as hell. There was so much more I wanted to say to him but he walked off as the guy from the warehouse walked up and said my recliner was up front waiting for me. Here's the best part. I'm sure I was the only person that noticed. There was at least 20 people walking around and no one paid any attention. Too busy doing their own thing. And I worry about printing sometimes. The story doesn't have a happy ending. The dog won't get near the new recliner. Pretty sure it's going back tomorrow.2 points

Heck, Bush pushed that one. The Dems have sagely been steering clear of gun control. They know, intellectually, that it's electoral death for them. They can't help themselves though, it's in their grubby little hearts. They can't control an armed population the way they want so they'll always come back to it.2 points

I've got a simple principal I like to follow in these situations. It's not my job/responsibility/duty to make sure every person knows exact value for an item they are selling. Now I won't try to BS or talk down a seller to a price that is under value. In fact I'll even tell them that with time and effort they could likely get more, but I'm paying cash today, no effort. In my experience most people who won't even take the time to find a value for their items don't like the sound of time and effort. They'll take the easy cash. I say as long as you weren't being flat out dishonest you've got no issues grabbing some desirable pieces at a fantastic price. IMHO.2 points

It affected me. I've had to endure copious amounts of pointless bitchin'. It's the only thing 99.7 super talk radio talks about. It's just like wheni was a kid and the president was on. Is on every channel! I'm to the point where I really don't care if the power company goes out there and pulls the meter at the White House and the bank ( of china no less!!!) puts a lock on the door. Screw em. Weak animals make meals for the strong. I'll be glad when we as a people stop sheltering this thing and put it down so we can restart/rebuild and get back to some semblance of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. There will never be happiness with the current regime who take STEAL from me because I decided I need to work for what's mine and give it to some lazy ghetto trash cuz somebudy gots to pay to raise my babies! Yep, the Senate got in $3 Billion or more of pet funding in about 10 line items in the last draft. Any number of House members didn't even know about them because, well, you know, they didn't have time to really read the damn thing before voting to save the country tonight. Even John Weasel McCain called it "disgraceful", as if here were surprised. Guess he didn't read it either, since he voted for it. (as did Lamar and Bobby). My fave is a little one, $171,000 to the widow of Frank Lautenberg. Since he was worth $56 Million, you'd think maybe she wouldn't be missing many meals or anything, eh? http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/oct/16/stopgap-spending-bill-approves-3-billion-price-tag/?page=2 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/16/frank-lautenberg-widow_n_4112148.html Even RacHell Maddow chimed in on the overall pork deals: http://video.msnbc.msn.com/rachel-maddow/53301620/#53301620 Ironic these apparently wouldn't have even been in there without the House's histrionics over the last two weeks, so not only did the GOP come out with nada except taking huge hit in polls, but actually lost ground on the overall spending proposals from what they started with. - OS1 point

Found this on another friends Facebook page , I would have been dead meat thinking that the threat was over when he was putting the rifle down , I respect officers even more now the things that thay go through every day , and get up and do it all over again the next day , I jest want to thank the officers that go out and put there life on the line every day , to help keep our family's safe . THANK YOU . Now how would you have reacted ??? It is important to watch the video first, then read text below. It's short but you will catch it. Watch The Video BEFORE You Read the Story! Pay Attention! This video is of actual Detectives attempting to stop a CRIMINAL in Chicago. This Video was taken by a Police Officer Videographer who, was also in harm's way. WATCH the Video First... Two or Three Times if You Want... (and) THEN Read TheText Below... DON'T READ UNTIL YOU WATCH THE VIDEO! You may need to watch this one several times. Please remember these cops acted in real time.... THIS PERSON DOES GET SHOT BY THE DETECTIVES. THIS IS FOR REAL. DO NOT scroll down and read until you see this 8 sec. video. WHAT DID YOU SEE???? Officers ordered the suspect to put the assault rifle down, and that is what he is doing, Right? it appears he is complying and then they shoot him!!! OMG, he is shot! Is that what you saw? Do you want to know what it is like to work the streets as a cop, and what risks our Officers face daily? Watch the video again... Watch the suspect's right hand while he places the rifle down with his left hand. What you don't see by facing this Criminal face to face, but the Officer behind the suspect does see, is the suspect pulling a hidden handgun from his rear pants, with his right hand. {back-up yells "Gun" before firing} Watch as the bad guy goes down..... the handgun is still in his right hand. This is a reminder... What you think you see at does not always tell the truth. Watch it again, and learn! NOW, pass this on to EVERYONE on your email list, so they can do the same. It's time for Mr. and Mrs. Citizen as well as the Media have a better understanding of why people REALLY get shot and WHY our Officers are always in Jeopardy. Think I would rather try to ride a bull for 8 seconds, how about you? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbPjRCQv5Ko1 point

I wish I had words to describe how disappointed and disgusted I am with this entire ordeal. I was arguing with a coworker today who swears we're better off under Obama despite the fact that he couldn't name a single reason why. On Hannity this morning they were interviewing people and asking who was to blame for the govt. shutdown, Obama or Bush. Guess how many people said Bush? There is no hope.1 point

Before you BUY a shotgun, find someone who owns one and can show you how to properly shoot one. After you do that, imagine inside your bedroom at Bad Guy Prime Time or 3am in the morning and discharging that shotgun. It is a GREAT home defense platform, but if you are so startled and disoriented when you pull the trigger the first time, how quickly will you be willing and able to rack the action and shoot again? The only advice I can offer is based on what worked for my wife. she became comfortable and proficient with a Walther P22 and .22s poke holes in people just like every other handgun bullet. When she was comfortable and confident, she upgraded to a 9mm. We went shopping and narrowed down to 3 options for a full size 9mm; she picked out the one that felt "right" in her hand (Glock 17) Welcome to TGO!!!1 point

Thanks Dave. Do you have a link or a brand name to search for? Also this will be used by me as well. I have just over a 300 yard shot possible in this stand so I'd like to be as steady as possible. Plus it will boost her confidence a little. She's a great shot but only at paper so far. Factor in the cold and adrenaline rush she hasn't felt yet and Im sure she'll be shaking a little. Heck I still do haha. Out to 50-75 yards I am confident she could make a free handed shot.1 point

The next day was Saturday and time to pack up and head home. We were greeted with a beautiful sunrise. As luck would have it.... we conveniently passed by a certain place in Columbia right about lunch time. :) To be perfectly honest, I was a little disappointed. While they had lots of stuff, what I most wanted was a brick or two of .22, but they had exactly none. :yuck: I did pick up a few p-mags (they had boxes and boxes of them) and a LPK for my TGO lower. The boys got pop guns. I was sorely tempted by the spam cans of 7.62x54R stacked up and more than a few cases of .223 but my credit card got enough abuse in the prior week. On our way back to the car, my little one got stung by a bee that had crawled up in his shirt. :( After digging through all the stuff packed in the van to get at the benadryl and tylenol, he was fine and slept for the next 2 hours. Good to know he's not allergic to bee stings, though that's not exactly how I wanted to find out. In all, it was a good trip. We probably won't go back there as we kinda like Hilton Head better from a pure beach perspective. But its certainly a nice quiet place for a beach vacation. :wave:1 point

You can't really make any assumptions at all. There are skinny nerdy guys that are fast and strong, old guys that can move better than you would believe, fat guys that used to be jocks, and so on. You have to go into any confrontation assuming the other guy is stronger, faster, and better than you are --- then plan accordingly. If you were wrong in your assumption, that is a good thing. If you were right, hopefully your plan works.1 point

I cannot believe that anyone here would have expected a bill to come out of the Senate or the House without have 5000 lbs of pork fat added, especially since they all knew it would get voted on with out folks having time to read it. It is just like Obama care bill. Botox Pelosi's infamous quote of the century. "You have to sign it to see what is in it." Once again same story and different Bill.................. :rant:1 point

Frankly, our nation's last best chance and hope to avoid where we are right now was crushed last November when Obama was reelected and Democrats retained control of the Senate. Anything that can be done now to stop or slow down Obama's agenda will be a godsend because ultimately, the numbers simply aren't there for conservatives to stop it. Once a few more million become totally dependent on the federal government (through Obamacare), that 46-48% who currently pay now federal income tax at all will balloon and we'll truly have fewer people pulling the wagon than are in it. Those people vote and those people will NEVER allow their silver spoon be taken from their mouths. With Obamacare as well as all the other of control spending, the debt will keep spiraling out of control and now with 75-85% of the country's economy is controlled, directly or indirectly by the federal government. With full-on national health care we ARE, at best, a socialist democracy. Obama will get to nominate one or two (hopefully not more than that) Supreme Court Justices and of course, the Senate will confirm which means you can pretty much wipe away anything good that has come out of the Supreme Court that past 10-15 years including the gains made in moving to restore 2A rights. The Federal Reserve will continue to pump trillions of worthless dollars into the economy, either directly or by buying its own securities and sooner or later (and I think sooner), the U.S. dollar will cease to hold any value at all because the only thing that gives it value, people's belief in it, will evaporate. At that point, we'll see hyper-inflation and likely a world-wide depression beyond anything most of us can even imagine. The only hope I can see at all is in individual states refusing to comply but that hope is VERY small because in most cases, the worthless politicians who sit in Washington D.C. are just bigger versions than the worthless politicians who sit in State legislatures.1 point

Messy, smelly, and they weight a frickin' ton. Dad and I built a retaining wall out of brand new ties at our house many years ago. New ones are nothing like the old, rotten crap they sell at Lowes. The most effective way we could come up with to cut them was to use a chainsaw. We ruined a bar and a couple chains in the process. The flip side is, 30 years later, that wall hasn't moved or degraded at all.1 point

Without hesitation Jack immediately made his way towards where his gear layed on a cleared off desk belonging to a detective who was probably at home this very moment unaware of the nightmare ensuing at this very moment. Jack had removed his gear before helping everyone so as to not exhaust himself, though without it, it made him feel almost naked even with his sidearm still on his side there was just something comforting about a long-gun in his mind. Brigsby made his way in pursuit of Jack, "You need to calm down son; you don't think we all have families?" Jack spun to give Mike a glare and almost spat at him, "One of my sisters is a wheel chair bound Mike, she can't even properly defend herself!" A look of shock crossed over Brigsby's face, "Your sister is crippled?" Jack just nodded without saying a word. Brigsby looked down, ran some ideas through his head. Without saying another word he walked over to where he sat his patrol carbine and a tactical vest. Brigsby began equipping everything he laid down on his desk. He inserted a fresh magazine into his Colt LE6920 which had an Aimpoint Comp M2 and charged the weapon making it hot, he flipped the selector to 'SAFE' then set the weapon down. Mike removed his Glock 22 from the duty holster dropping the mag free and racking back the slide to eject the round that was chambered, he then began to refill his pistol mag from a newly opened box of rounds sitting on the table. Satisfied with the weapon back to its fifteen round max capacity he reholstered the Austrian pistol. He made his way back over to Jack with his carbine at the ready, "I'm coming with you Jack but I before I go, I need to delegate some orders to Wade." Jack was stunned by Brigsbys statement, "Mike, I can't let you come, you have to tend to these people!" Mike shook his head, "I'm going to put into effect that plan we all talked about." Without saying another word, Mike walked over to the group of people that had come to the station, then in a commanding and authorative but friendly tone he said, "Are there those among you whom have served in the military or a form of law enforcement?" The group of people began to look to one another, three of them raised their hands, two men and a woman; one of the men whom raised their hands was the man who had the breakdown which perturbed Brigsby a little but then noticed a fire in his eyes that wasn't there before, 'This man is out for vengeance, we don't need a loose cannon but IF he's had the training he can be an asset.' Mike looked to the broken man, "What training have you had son?" The man in a flat tonned voice and in a military fashion responded, "US Marine Corps, Operation Iraqi Freedom." That was all Mike needed to hear from the Devil Dog, "You're hired." The man had a puzzled look on his face, Brigsby then questioned the other two whom were US Air Force and a retired detective respectively.1 point

You cannot use deadly force to protect property. If someone already has stolen your property and is leaving you cannot shoot them. Or if someone is trying to steal your property you cannot shoot them. You can use whatever means needed to protect your property except deadly force or the threat of deadly force. Now if they escalate to deadly force while you are trying to protect your property then you can meet force with force. But if you find someone on your property you cannot shoot them unless they are a threat to your life or someone else's life, even if they have bypassed your gate or crossed fences. If you are in your house and someone is trying to break in it doesn't automatically give you the right to shoot. Now if they are in the house and you are in fear for your life then you can shoot. Do not shoot from inside your home at anyone who is outside unless they are firing at you. Up until they enter your residence the only crime they have committed is trespassing which is not justification for the use of deadly force. You want to avoid conflicts at all cost and defuse them at the lowest level as possible. Shooting someone should be the absolutely last resort when all others have failed. Even if the shoot is justified you are going to find yourself in a place you don't want to be, both mentally and financially. The bad guy's family can sue you and it will cost you thousands to defend yourself. I know a justified shooting excempts someone from beind sued but it still takes a court hearing to get the case thrown out and anyone who goes to court on something serious without an attorney is asking for trouble. And imagine in the off chance the authorities think it was not justified, that can cost you a lot more than money. 99% of the time just yelling at a bad guy that the cops are on their way will make them flea.1 point

Hey Mav...I actually teach a hand to hand class also....It is NOT sport based and it is not a traditional martial art that takes years to get anything useful from. What I do combines striking, grappling, ground work and in fight weapons access. It is a mix of WWII combatives, wrestling, BJJ, that works in a weapons based environment. The only "problem" is that due to the nature of it you often have a hard time finding people to practice with....1 point
