This sort of thing pisses me off. This was an entirely avoidable tragedy if not for some idiot who thought it would be funny to hand an inexperienced shooter the biggest damn gun he could without even thinking "hey, let's be on the safe side and load just one round in the thing in case she loses control of it." Youtube is full of videos where the person being filmed managed to avoid this poor woman's fate by nothing more than sheer luck. The person who put that gun in her hands should be charged with negligent homicide as this outcome was entirely foreseeable.4 points

Veterans, it would be nice to see all your unit or combat patches from your service days, on your avatars. I've changed my avatar to my combat patch from Desert Storm, the 20th Engr Bde (Airborne) from Ft. Bragg, NC.3 points

Sigh. Guys, the topic is NOT - type of image - size of image - storage of image on TGO - storage on offsite provider - your bandwidth - TGO bandwidth - the Super Bowl The topic is about the link to a picture that many pages use. The images are still JPEG, GIF, or PNG, but since the link does not name them as such, the PB Board software, or the settings within it, disallow them for embedding within a post, even though browsers parse them just fine: Again, OP's example: https://www.govtrack.us/congress/votes/111-2009/s396/diagram (simple PNG image) Here is another, picked at random: https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRP_S2LQ4fxylY50bDWgcDs5HvqLS-ne3XX3HDvLw8yiT3LZ4sILQ (simple JPEG image) Again, to clarify, these type URLs can not be put in a post, but of course display fine if you simply click on them. - OS3 points

I think they call this a "selfie" pic... Anyways big fat old doe: Watched her feeding for nearly an hour until I just got tired of watchin' and decided to get in the game. First one I've shot with this rifle and figured I needed to test it. TC Impact, 250gr Shockwave bonded/110gr Blackhorn 209, 50yds.3 points

Driving down Kingston Pike this afternoon I notice a small sign saying "Armory" on the main signage for Windsor Square (where Bailey's and Movies 7 are). I whipped in and sure enough there is a new gunstore right next to the theater. Place is called Guardian Armory. Apparently they just opened up a few days ago. Not a huge selection but dude said he had several hundred more guns than what was on display. They were still hanging rifles on the walls. Prices seemed decent and transfers are $20 + TICS. They did have seven 500 round boxes of Thunderbolts for $35/each limit of one. $45/each if you want more. That's all I got.2 points

Well, we lost God given gun rights in 1934 I reckon, not to mention crapping on the Second Amendment the first major time. - OS2 points

Wow, Bersaguy and GuitarX. My wife and I, and our college buddies used to eat there a LOT because we went to church near there. It was our "spot." We were very sad to learn of those events and prayed for the families of those lost over the next few months. We never knew the chain treated their families so poorly. We rarely get to that side of town now that we live in Smyrna, but any time we pass there, we remember the event. It seems pointless and petty coming from a nobody like me, but if either of you have any contact with the families any more, please let them know that others in Nashville have been praying for them.2 points

Even though I didn't tag a deer this morning, it was one of my finest mornings I've had in the woods in many years. It started off with a little spike buck and a couple does milling around right at shooting light. The little buck was the only one that gave me a shot but I chose to let him live another day. I felt pretty good about that. Squirrels were very busy this morning putting away their winter stores and a couple of chipmunks got in a little action. Also right at daylight, I was serenaded to three hoot owls that wanted to "laugh" at the whole world. About then, two distant Coyotes announced their presence in the deer woods. At this point in time I cared very little about killing a deer. I was just amazed at God's work and the blessing I have to had experienced it. What an awesome world we live in! I hope I'm equally entertained tomorrow. DaveS2 points

I ran across this one from a knife maker in FL. Loved the Ferric Chloride finish on the blade (I just did an Izula using it) and the color of the G10 so I had to pick it up. Should have it in a couple days. His pics1 point

I think we know what the problem is. I understand ETP's hesitation with a warranty in place. Reality is though, that this is probably the only problem he will ever have with that rifle. Spike's is quality stuff, even though this one slipped thru the cracks.1 point

I dare say it would probably be my preference to meet up with Dolomite, your AR will be running smooth, plus you'll learn what the problem was and how it was corrected.1 point

Putting things in perspective. March 21st 2010 to October 1 2013 is 3 years, 6 months, 10 days. December 7, 1941 to May 8, 1945 is 3 years, 5 months, 1 day. What this means is that in the time we were attacked at Pearl Harbor to the day Germany surrendered is not enough time for this federal government to build a working webpage. Mobilization of millions, building tens of thousands of tanks, planes, jeeps, subs, cruisers, destroyers, torpedoes, millions upon millions of guns, bombs, ammo, etc. Turning the tide in North Africa, Invading Italy, D-Day, Battle of the Bulge, Race to Berlin - all while we were also fighting the Japanese in the Pacific!! And they can't build a webpage in the same amount of time.1 point

My Combat Patches. Airborne! Air Assault! One of the things that I liked about the ACUs was the Velcro for the unit patches. I could change my combat patch out depending on the "audience." As a side note, I had a good friend who was a "Four-Patch All American" with combat tours with the 82ABN in Grenada, Panama, Desert Storm, and the GWOT.1 point

It really depends on your "hold" & on the "load" - you'll want to try a few different bullet weights & velocities to see which ones shoot low/high or dead on at various ranges with your particular "hold".1 point

You might want to consider the Kel Tec Sub 2000 in 40 cal Glock magazines. It's already small, lightweight, short barreled and has the added benefit of interchangeable magazines with Glock 40 cal handguns. It retails for less than $400 when you can find it. I don't know if the 40 caliber has enough stopping power for 100 yards. Someone else will have to comment. If you go to www.theKTOG.org website, you'll find ways to add a scope to the Sub 2000 and retain it's folding ability. Folded, it can be carried in a backpack or a very large laptop bag.1 point

It is the same "progressive liberals" in the USDOJ that are sponsoring this talk. This is why the post-Sandy Hook legislation died a quick death. Gun owners are always talking about the "progressive liberals" in government in academia and government trying to get their guns, but during the past five years under what many consider the most radical progressive liberal president in recent history, the government has made little effort to control access to guns, has been largely unsuccessful in the policies it has tried to pass, and is now sponsoring a talk about research showing that gun ownership is not correlated with homicide rates. I've seen multiple academic research papers on this topic in the past 2 or 3 years, and the overwhelming majority of them say gun control does not prevent crime. They present these findings in public (and to the USDOJ), yet gun owners still complain about these "radical progressives/Marxists" and warn about how they all want to seize our guns. And if you want to talk about emotion trumping logic and facts, let's talk about gun owners. Gun owners are every bit as bad - or worse - about letting emotion override their brains in comparison to gun-control advocates. I've experienced first-hand the belligerent attacks from rabid gun owners who believe the federal government, military, law enforcement, UN, and FEMA are all currently mobilizing the full might of the government to come and seize firearms at any moment. I've heard stories about pro-gun politicians being shouted out of meetings because they did not adopt the same venomous and frantic rhetoric of emotionally driven gun owners. It's these same gun owners who continue to buy ammo as fast as it can hit store shelves or will pay above-retail prices for ammo sold by opportunists who clean off store shelves for a quick profit. This is why I keep saying that in many ways, gun owners are their own worst enemy. As I said, this does not mean we should declare victory and stop paying attention. What it does mean is that people need to chill the frick out a bit and continue to fight the fight in a civil manner guided by logic and facts. Certainly, there are a few in government and academia who want to ban guns regardless of what the data says, but I believe these folks are in the minority.1 point

I don't own one but a buddy does and i've probably put close to 400 rounds through it and have never seen it have any issues. I put about 100-150 rounds of my cast bullet handloads through it and it did just fine with those. The rest was factory ammo that he had and I know once it was Federal and another he had some PMC but the rest i'm not sure about. It has been a blast to shoot each time I've had the opportunity to run it. It is capable of running many times faster than anyone's finger I've ever seen and does so like a sewing machine. Recoil is almost non existent and it pretty well stays pointing at whatever you want it to be pointing at. I'd sure like to have one but i've got a few other things ahead of it and since I can pretty well shoot one whenever I want, it makes the wait much easier. I've not heard of feeding issues with them but I've also only been around two different ones and only one of them for very many rounds but as for my experience, I don't think you would be disappointed.1 point

Sudden influx of Georgian folks becoming new members in the past 48 hrs.1 point

Welcome to TGO, everyone! Having spent the first 18 years of my life in Atlanta, I still have a fondness for the place. Y'all have a lot of law from a firearms perspective that we would love to have up here in Tennessee. Unfortunately, taking this same walk in any park in any major metro area in Tennessee would have you arrested with a different end result. I'll be honest in saying that my first impulse is to shut this thread down - for two reasons. One, is that we suddenly have an influx of people from outside of our immediate community coming onto the board to jump into this thread. The second is that experience tells me that these open carry threads generally only go one way, and that folks will keep pushing the issue as long as they have a platform to speak. I'm going to go against my impulse for now and keep this thread open, but everyone please be cognizant of TGO's code of conduct. This thread is on thin ice, so to speak. After reading the initial article that was posted here, the court documents and the majority of the thread over on GeorgiaPacking, here's the thing that just doesn't sync up for me - I just can't level set that this particular walk on this particular day had to result in Mr. Proescher getting arrested. I'll agree that he shouldn't have been arrested. I'd like to support his ability to carry openly. It wasn't long ago in Georgia that this by itself would have constituted a crime. I'm glad the security company settled and the Mr. Proescher got enough money for a nice AR out of it (though I will say that I've never seen a settlement agreement that doesn't have a confidentiality clause that prohibits talking about the outcome). I'm glad this case hopefully resulted in some better training for somebody. But, I fail to see how this case advances our rights, our agenda at large as gun owners or our message with the public at large. This isn't the Woolworth's lunch counter, y'all. I know that we trend towards these all or nothing positions these days, but I'd argue that we can all step back from the edge just a little bit. I'd argue that there's some distance between Gestapo'ish "papers please" police force and a police officer who's just trying to figure out if a person with a gun on his hip represents a threat. I'd argue that there's a little distance between helping less-informed officers understand the law as it exists and being non-cooperative. I'd argue that there's some distance between being civil and how these encounters so often go. There's some distance between having the government on your front porch and going to seek the man out so you can poke him with a stick. I'll give Mr. Proescher a wide latitude as he presents his version of events. But, I personally level set that with his statement in his signature over on GeorgiaPacking that he "will not answer questions, I will not produce identification." I'll level set it with the fact that he left his license in the car, but brought his recorder with him. I'd argue that had he presented a license - despite the fact that the law does not technically require it - he would have driven out of there that afternoon. Like I said, I'll give the gentleman a bit of latitude, but looking at what we do know - regardless of whether the guard changed his story or not - it sure looks like he went out that day prepared to be detained, whether or not he actually expected it when it happened. This case may actually hurt the community because now there's opinion in Georgia that open carrying is reasonable suspicion to detain. I didn't see in the GeorgiaPacking thread that the decision was going to be appealed. I'm sorry, but I just don't see how this helps the community of gun owners at large.1 point

They had apparently asked him to leave the park, and he didn’t comply. The police had the blessing of the magistrate judge who told them that they had sufficient probable cause for an arrest.
