  2. I was just waiting for this guy to be named Leonard Embody.....   I think we need to walk a fine line as gun owners in what we do with our guns. Legally, we definitely can open carry, and should be our right to. I just don't see the point of doing it if you're only doing so to to prove a point and/or freak out the public. Doesn't help our case as responsible gun owners.    I carry my weapon to defend my person and loved ones, not to make a statement.

  3.    Capitalist (scalpers) aside the next thing I can think of causing the shortage is that before all this craziness started most folks would go buy a bulk pack for plinking and then when they started to run low they would grab another next time they were out and about but no one is doing that by choice now. Those same people rather than having a bulk pack on hand will buy any they see because they aren't sure that they will be able to find it when they do need more. So now the same people that were buying say, one box per month are now buying 2,3,4 or however many they have the chance to. So even if you don't count all the new .22 owners that bought guns due to the Obama & pals reaction to Sandy Hook (LOTS & LOTS), the demand has gone up 300-400% but the manufacturers and still only capable of producing the same or slightly more. Most manufacturers I would assume don't want to put a large amount of their funds into new equipment and facilities to ramp up production for what is likely not a permanent level of demand. I would say that demand will be permanently higher than it was before Sandy Hook because of the great number of new firearms sold and new gun owners BUT,, not it will eventually drop back down to a more permanent level and my guess would be, that's when the manufacturers will start adding capacity to suit.

  4. Many thanks to Dolomite for the firearms related item that he gave to me as a gift...and paid to ship it to me! Really made me feel good that there was a fellow gun enthusiast, that freely gave something, and didn't expect anything in return! Just proves that there still are some generous people, that will do something nice for someone else, just to do it without any personal profit motive. Thank you Dolomite...and if we're ever at one of my lunch places, at the same time, lunch is on me. Here's wishing you and yours the very best for the New Year ahead of us. Sidewinder

  5. How to hunt a SEAL? Rig up one of them Loony Toons style traps and bait it with HGH, UDT shorts, sun tan lotion and a mirror. You'll end up trapping a whole SEAL platoon inside of a day.

  7.   We've really got to get past the idea that there's a loophole to justify the lack of common sense every time someone does something legal but stupid.  If it was inventory, it could have and should have been cased or cartoned.

  9. The same goes with Shipping Wars.  I don't have cable but caught this show while visiting my mother.  Being in the transportation business, this is not how it works.  Scripted TV at it's worst.  Gives a bad name for the true professionals out on the road.

  16.       Exactly! It took me a little while last year to settle in on the fact that it is indeed the growth of the shooting population that is responsible for a large percentage of the shortage and then next biggest cause (like I mentioned above) is US! All of us regular/frequent shooters need to have far more ammo on hand to achieve the same comfort level than we did 1 1/2yrs ago. Those two things could be having about the same effect or even backwards from how I listed but bottom line is, New shooters and seasoned shooters carry the bulk of the shortage "burden" on their shoulders. The thing is (and I don't like seeing the same guys lined up at Wal Mart everyday either) it is human nature to need somebody or something to blame it on, it's somewhat of a coping mechanism and I think this is more where the "scalpers" and even the government fall into the grand scheme.  I do believe the government was intentionally causing supply issues ( :tinfoil: ) when all this started but that has either slowed or they've learned to be a lot more discreet.    With a government that is constantly grasping, ripping and clawing away at our gun rights (and all rights for that matter) I for one see that the benefit of such a HUGE growth to the shooting base and the fact that it makes each of our voices louder outweighs the negatives such as having to search or even cut back the amount of .22lr one shoots. Once the demand levels off to an honest altitude, the ammunition manufacturers will rise to me that demand. How long that will take, who knows, but i'm guessing that they are following everything very closely to try to figure out when the trends mellow out and turn into something that they can count on to provide them a good return on the investment in new equipment. I load pretty much every round I shoot so buying ammo isn't something that I find myself in the habit of doing unless I happen to be somewhere and notice fairly price .22lr so my opinion may not matter a bit to anyone else but I myself was so busy looking for someone or something to blame last year that I overlooked the magnitude of the new and seasoned shooters.

  17.   If it continues like the first episode, it may be closer to the first season in action and its wry humor. It felt a little more like the orginal Raylan last night.   Since you didn't see it, the little redhead Wendy, is the gal who played Cybil's daughter on the show Cybil a few years back. The smart-mouthed little teenager. But she has grown up to be a smart-mouthed Crowe now.

These companies have money tied up in storage and trucks but the biggest idiots are glamorized like stupid and ignorant is cool. There is no benefit nothing to learn, no business tricks just dumbasses being stupid. We've already debated bad tv and the duck deal but two towing shows taking up air time w bs... I've worked w tow co owners good and bad I don't know how they allow this shit to give their biz a bad image... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2 of course it ate my spelling.

  26. I've never been asked for my card to buy my license, but I was born in 1955 and don't need it. However, to hunt on Fort Campbell I have to have it. So I took the course back in the late 90's. My 17 year old daughter has never been asked for hers either (she has one). At Walmart; she tells them she needs her annual fishing license and doesn't get "carded". Buy them online and one isn't required. You do need to produce it when asked for by a Wildlife Officer.   Please don't misunderstand me here, but the HSC is over rated. I went through it for me, went through it with my kids and my grandkids. I have even assisted the instructor in the class for traditional/modern muzzleloader hunting. In my opinion, the class doesn't teach enough of the right things. That's just my opinion. If I was teaching it I would have some props to use in class. But that's just me.   Dave

  31. #2 for sure violates my rights...  when did I agree as a business owner to become an agent for the federal government?  Why should I have to shoulder the cost and headache (plus possible civil and criminal liability) to do the governments job because they refuse to close the border?   And while we're talking about verifying citizenship how EXACTLY do you go about doing that?  Illegals have access to better forged documents than many citizens have from the government...  how exactly am I going to tell who is or isn't in this country legally?   The answer to that question is where civil rights start to really get violated...  and why a lot of liberty minded conservatives don't have a good answer to combat the current illegal immigrant problem.  There is no good way to combat it without further eroding the civil rights of citizens, and imposing additional costs on business owners...   #1 in theory is happening now...  but it's not enough...  you'd need to deny public education to children of illegal immigrants...  and even the hard core right wing people would balk at that idea.   I'm not sure I want #3 either...  just remember any fence/wall we build to keep people out in bad times can be used to keep people in....    The truth is there isn't a good solution to the issue at hand...  not one that would be tolerable to the American people...  It sucks, but we've dug this hole and there isn't a good way to get out.

  32. Excellent, fair price, quality parts, and shipped fast. (It showed up before my LPK, Barrel, Gas block/tube, and sights all ordered on the same day from other venders) Only companies I have had similar service from during this particular build (During the holiday season no less) have been D&T, Bravo Company, and Amazon.   PSA gets slightly less than honorable mention b/c of the glacial speed shipping, though prices go a long way to make up for it if you can wait in most cases.

  33. Leonard doing that simply to get a reaction is wreckless and hurtful to gun owners.    It is your right to open carry, but beware of the possible consequences of it (stolen promenintly displayed gun out of your truck, robber knowing to just shoot you since you're a visible threat, etc). Now it is YOUR right and all of our right to do this, just know the risk you run.

  35. All I will say is that modern consumer electronics are designed to fail at an alarming rate.   Used, new,  brand --- none of it matters much right now.  Its all made the same way by the same people and it has about an 85% chance for something major to fail within 5 years.  The days of running a machine for 10+ years are mostly gone (sometimes you get lucky, but odds are against).   So get the best deal on the machine that can do what you need it to do, invest in a backup,  and mentally mark the purchase as disposable.   That makes a refurb a bit of a ????? to me.   It could mean that the machine already suffered a failure and was repaired, but does that make it more? or less? likely to fail again?   I would say its going to be about as safe as a new machine in that regard.  In that case, look to see if they have any sort of warranty on the thing.  Presumably anything bad was replaced with new, so it should have some sort of protection....   if not, get a cheap new machine.   If you know how and have some parts already (forget using 8 year old parts) maybe build something.

  37. Crow Facts   Researchers for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority found over 200 dead crows near greater Boston recently, and there was concern that they may have died from Avian Flu. A Bird Pathologist examined the remains of all the crows, and, to everyone's relief, confirmed the problem was definitely NOT Avian Flu. The cause of death appeared to be vehicular impacts.   However, during the detailed analysis it was noted that varying colors of paints appeared on the bird's beaks and claws. By analyzing these paint residues it was determined that 98% of the crows had been killed by impact with trucks, while only 2% were killed by an impact with a car.   MTA then hired an Ornithological Behaviorist to determine if there was a cause for the disproportionate percentages of truck kills versus car kills.   He very quickly concluded the cause: When crows eat road kill, they always have a look-out crow in a nearby tree to warn of impending danger. They discovered that while all the lookout crows could shout "Cah", not a single one could shout "Truck."

  38.    I can't stand the liberal "high cap mag" or "high cap ammunition clip" BS. Next time he brings it up ask him what is a "high cap mag"? How many rounds must a mag hold for it to fall under the "high cap mag" blanket? My only store bought (did not build myself) AR came STANDARD with a 30rd mag. Now I would assume that if I replaced my standard capacity (30rd) mag with a SureFire 60 or 100 round mag or a 100rd Beta mag then one could say that I've added a "high cap mag" but that's not their point. The liberals are to ignorant to speak intelligibly on the subject on firearms and their accessories so they picked a phrase that they could repeat over and over again until ugh... even firearms enthusiast, retailers and manufacturers refer to them as high cap mags. Maybe we don't acknowledge the term "high cap mag"  as an evil thing like the liberals do but when we use the term and other more neutral folks hear us use it, they assume that we are talking about the same evil items that they hear getting blamed for everything from a kid falling  of a skateboard and scraping his knee to actual shootings that may and may not have had a "high capacity mag" in play.   Whitewolf001 i'm not talking about you repeating what your coworker said but it got me thinking about all the different people and companies that i hear use the term. One of the most notorious offenders that I have personally seen is www.CDNNinvestments.com .I am signed up to receive their internet specials email every other day and pretty much any mag they sell that is for a gun bigger than a single stack pocket pistol is boasted as being a "HIGH CAP MAG". Even the pistols and rifles that they sell with only the factory mag included will have 1 HIGH CAP MAG inc, in big bold print somewhere on the ad. It's almost like they are calling them that to appeal to the rebellious sector that thinks they are really living on the edge when they purchase a mag that is touted as being one of those evil high cap mags but the way I look at it is that they are only fueling the libs fire by not just stating the number of rounds the mag is capable of holding. I guess i'll get off my soapbox now.     Whitewolf keep working on the guy you mentioned, it sure sounds like you've got at least a fighting chance with this one!

On a bright note: federal .223, 55gr 100rds for $38.97 (tax included) I haven't seen federal 55gr in a local store for under 40c in a long time.

  40. I don't use a 22lr as much as I do a shotgun. If for some reason you miss with a 22lr and the squirrel is sitting on a branch or side of the tree the bullet will keep going. So, I don't shoot any squirrels in trees with a .22lr unless a TREE is the actual back stop. Number #6 shots carries less energy down range than .22lr.   A shotgun with #6 is safer and is just plain easier for me.

Indeed, you're just training bacteria to adapt and resist them.   Overuse of antibiotics as a nation is the reason we have the super duper killer strep and staph and whatnot strains that have evolved.   And as tnguy says, have zero effect on any virus.   - OS
