I haven’t seen many on here that don’t support your right to do it. That’s not the same thing as those that think it’s a bad idea or a tactical disadvantage. My experience has shown me that it’s a tactical disadvantage; others experiences may show them something else. Also, do I think most people that open carry are seeking attention? Yes I do, but that’s just my opinion and has nothing to do with the law or rights. I don’t really care if people open carry; although I don’t think that was the intent of not outlawing it. What gets me are the people that cry like babies when they get stopped open carrying. If you are open carrying and someone calls in on you; you will get stopped. Deal with it like an adult. Show your HCP be professional and courteous and be on your way. You live in a state where carrying a gun is a crime.8 points

Went to the Chinese buffet and saw a big bearded biker looking guy OCing his piece. Only a few tables away were 4 Clarksville PD officers having lunch. There was no way the staff and other patrons didnt notice the pistol, as it was not only obvious but he was sitting pistol out. I guarantee that the cops saw it. I never saw the cops approach him nor did I see them watching him as they ate their meal and walked around the buffet. Just thought that, with all the cop vs. permit holder crap we see posted here, I'd post a story where it had all the elements but nothing happened because nobody cared.7 points

I dont get it. I served with tons of Marines and never understood why some of them insisted on recording everything with pics and video. I don't give two shits about burning those bodies, hell I wouldnt care if they burned them alive. Just like the urinating on the bodies. I couldn't give a crap less if they defecated in the mouths of the dead. Just stop taking pictures and videos... Tapatalk ate my spelling.7 points

I'm like Dave on this one... It is against the law in this state to "...go armed..." without a HCP... We can quibble about whether it infringes on your 2A constitutional rights (...i happen to think it does...) but that is the "settled law"... If you open carry in the wrong place (...the mall, the health club walking track, ect...) you can expect someone not to like it and to drop a dime on ya.... That is the nature of things in this society... f you are out in the field or at the barnyard; no one is probably gonna care.... As the Apostle Paul said: "....everything may be permissible, but not everything is helpful....". This issue is one of them... Discretion and wisdom always trumps "in your face" exercise of rights... Many see the open carry thing in crowded locations as an "in your face" thing.... It's one thing for your skirt to blow up in the wind every now and then... It's quite another not to wear a skirt at all... leroy7 points

Problem is we haven't been engaging in war. We've been engaging in nation building and everyone starts shooting at us. There's no military in the world better at crushing foreign armies than the US military. We can't win hearts and minds by killing everyone. It's maddening that we keep doing this. When we go in we need to have clear cut goals that are reasonable. Crush the enemy and leave. Warmongers send us there then the bleeding hearts won't let us leave. It makes no sense.3 points
Yeah, but posing with charred skulls is not standard practice. Not that I care, it just makes for a sensational photo and anti-military porn for hippies. If I was a fresh out of high school Marine that believed the things that young Marines do, I'd have been posing with charred enemy skulls as well. Lucky for me I was a little older when all this was going on, so I never posed with dead bodies or took pictures of any of the sensational things that I've seen. I'm thankful for that. But I've seen Iraqi kids play soccer with the head of suicide bomber. I've seen an Iraqi policeman cave in the skull of a dead bad guy by repeatedly stomping on his head. I've seen Iraqi police tie a dead insurgent to the back of their truck and drag him through the streets. Burning dead, stinking corpses? Yep, don't care.
Well, we've only had photography for what, 150 years? I mean before that we didn't pose for pictures with our enemies skulls, we just strapped them onto our armor to strike fear into the heart of the next one we met. :D3 points

Yeah, but the metric system is also world wide, but we don't tolerate that nonsense here. The term "Soldier" is capitalized when referring to a member of the US Army, BTW. Now, if you'll please award me Grammar Ahole of the Thread I'll be on my way.3 points

IMO until someone has been over there and had their buddy shot, blown up or mutilated or worse and dealt with all the emotions and thoughts first hand, they have no right to judge these Marines. My cousin was over in the first Gulf war and the things he saw the Iraqi "soldiers" do to others (dead or alive) completely numbs be to anything imaginable happening to the insurgents. Anyone sitting all cozy in Washington in their $2,000 office chair that thinks the Marines did something the wrong way should be on the first thing smokin' so they can get there and show them how to do it the "right way". We ask an awful lot of these men to then turn around and struggle to find a way to charge them with something. Why are we obligated to handle a dead muslim in any certain way anyhow.. Who cares,, I promise they wouldn't think twice about pissing on an American's head that they chopped off. Make ashes out of them.3 points

I don't think there is a real story here. I looked at the pics and those bodies were NOT fresh. Maybe I am wrong here but after taking a city with a large scale battle, burning the multitude of corpses as a way to dispose of remains and stop the spread of disease has been pretty standard for a few thousand years I think. TMZ must have had a dearth of slutty starlets and coked out actors to take pictures of today.3 points

There was once a guy that lived in a cabin in the mountains. He drank as much beer as he damned well pleased, had a safe full of guns and a garage full of motorcycles. One day this fella decided to get on one of those dating websites. Now he has a wife, lives in the suburbs, and is constantly asked things like "Do you really need that many guns/motorcycles?" I won't mention any names.3 points

Just some general advice..... Krav can be good....or it can be the equivalent of israeli Tai Bo...depending on the instructor. Some places focus so much on the "getting in shape" aspect that they cover little in the truly combat effective realm. BUt the same can be said with most any martial art. Keep in mind that the Krav that they teach the 2 year 18 yearr old conscripts is not the same thing they teach 30 year old SF guys. At 18 the males are still jockying for hierarchy and do not really have the filter to amp it down. By the time they are in an SF unit they are ostensibly matured enough to know how to be a good training partner and not destroy their team mates in training. At 18 that is normally not the case. And that is why not all Krav (or anything for that matter) is equal. If you teach all the joint destructions to 18 year olds you will have a bunch of injuries... On the BJJ front, like with Judo, you work against a live resisting opponent and that is good...but you are still working within the rules and constructs of the sport. And real street fights rarely have agreed upon rules. If you grab my gi and I hit you with a full power chin jab and a knee to the groin and follow it up with an axe hand to the back of your neck as you lurch forward you are probably going to the hospital....or worse.....and as such that cannot really be allowed in the dojo.SO you grab mine, I grab yours and we manuever for position...not strike each other.... So while BJJ does allow you to work with a resisting opponent it is still not a 1 for 1 approximation of what you are likely to encounter in a bar or an alley. About the only thing that allows full power striking is boxing but even in boxing there are a lot of "foul blows" that are not allowed for good reason...because delivered at full speed they can maim and kill people....and the big gloves are there to protect the other guy more than there to protect your fists. My suggestion...give the Krav place a try and if that does not work out try the Bjj place. Just remember that NONE of them are an answer for EVERY problem and a mix of techniques is probably going to cover more bases.3 points

Well, a guy at work wants to buy my old truck. Couple things, I am fully planning to tell him everything I know that is wrong with it. Short list, leaks oil, trans fluid. Few other issues that I am going to point out. He will be informed the best I know. Anyways, I am getting it ready to let him try it out for a few days. Behind the seat of this ranger, I found 4 tire irons(3 single lug and 1 4way, 2 jacks, 3 first aid kits, jumper cables, tools, heavy rope, and about 10-15 bungee cords. I knew I had most of that back there, but I really didn't I had that many tire irons and 2 jacks.2 points

An attractive blonde arrived at a casino. She seemed a little intoxicated and bet twenty thousand dollars on a single roll of the dice. She said, "I hope you don't mind, but I feel much luckier when I'm completely nude." With that, she stripped, rolled the dice and yelled, "Come on baby, Mama needs new clothes!" As the dice came to a stop, she jumped up and down and squealed. "Yes! Yes! I won, I won!" She hugged each of the dealers, picked up her winnings and her clothes and quickly departed. The dealers stared at each other dumbfounded. Finally, one of them asked, "What did she roll?" The other answered, "I don't know - I thought you were watching." MORAL OF THE STORY Not all blondes are dumb, .. but all men, are men!2 points

If someone asks my opinion, I tell them I do not care for the idea & why. Which is fairly simple: I feel it negates having the weapon -- the thug sees you are armed, and has 2 real choices: 1) relocate to another area and attack someone defenseless or 2) sneak up behind you and take your piece to sell or use. I do not think that option 3 (go home and meditate on the risks of being a hoodlum and then choose a more safe career path) is likely. Or worse, option 4 (shoot you first, preferably when you are not looking) in the case of psychopaths hell bent on killing a bunch of people. Compare that to the bonuses of open carry. Its potentially more comfortable? And the off chance that it prevented crime entirely (I just do not see it, this is 3 above again) seems remote given the attitude of today's hoodlum. So, if someone asks, that is my opinion and why. Yes, you can argue against the points. No, I won't change my mind. Yes, you can open carry anyway, and I won't think any less of you for it. It also depends on where you are, I am thinking in the city, in public. If you are at home, or at a gun shop, or whatever, OC can be fun and appropriate while of minimal risk. My opinion is more for the guy in an actual at-risk environment (around potentially criminal strangers) who is actually carrying the gun for defense, and is unrelated to wearing it as some sort of show & tell conversation piece in a safer area.2 points

I wish silencers were unregulated. If they were our military would benefit from the advances made by individuals. I have read a lot of different theories about how to make them better but individuals can't afford to experiment and most companies don't want to hear from individuals about their ideas. And another thing is cost would go down. In Countries where silencers are unregulated silencers sell for 1/10 of what they do here. I would buy one for every gun I own if it didn't cost me $200, plus the cost of the can, for each one.2 points

Nope.... Exercising a "right" is just that.... You can carry open or not...As for me; I carry a gun to protect myself and others around me from thugs, mother stabbers, and father rapers... It aint a statement of "rights"... Youve already got them to begin with... Im like some other posters; i believe there is a time and place and method for everything ya decide to do... I prefer concealed carry... Your "skirt blowin up" wuz my way of sayin that... I was taught about carrying a firearm by a dear old grandfatherly guy who had this to say about carrying a firearm... It goes like this: "...Never let anyone know you are armed until you absolutely have to... Never draw a gun on anyone you dont fully intend to shoot and kill"... Carryin a gun aint about making a statement about "rights"; its far more than that... It's about self-defense and deadly use of force... There are those who may want to try to bluff and scare bad guys... I think that approach is a bad idea on a bunch of levels; but that's just me... I believe in tactical surprise and the determination to be ready to ventilate them if ya need to... I aint tryin to beat anyone up; but the second amendment, at it's core, is about the guarantee of the ability to have tools for self-defense... There was a time when every finished gentleman was, in fact, armed; and no one had to tell anyone else he was; everybody already knew it... I think that those times are returning with the "Shall Issue" permit thing... The realization of the need to go armed is the point here; not the method of carry.... leroy2 points

It's not about them. It's about the idiots that wind up in the news. There's a big difference between carrying for the right reason, and going out to make a statement and stir up crap. In about 98% of the cases, if you wind up on TV because of your gun... you're an idiot. Those people hurt gun owners, which means they hurt me.2 points

Once the Fed actually makes it law then they can change the wording of that law without the need of any legislative legwork. Right now, as it has been for a very long time, NFA stuff on a trust doesn't need backgrounds on trustees. Without passing a law they have changed the regulations requiring a background on trustees. This is going to cause a lot of problems, and costs, for people that weren't there before. And this was done with very little input. They asked for people to comment on it but we, as citizens, can't hold their feet to the fire like we can our representatives because we can't vote out those who are making the changes to the NFA. Look at the EPA. There have been very few laws passed over time but they opine or rewrite regulations to further encroach on people. It is not the law you have to worry about, it is the rules and regulations that will be implemented after it has been made a law. Look at the monster that ObamaCare has become. It was passed on a ~1,100 page document that has not reached well beyond 20K pages as they make up the regulations for it. Same thing would happen with a federal HCP mandate. It would go from a simple law that was passed to something that you would need to hire a lawyer to decipher. This is what would happen with anything related to firearms on a federal level. If the Fed did pass this then the Fed would make some sort of regulatory agency that is responsible for figuring out what should be and shouldn't be legal. And no doubt that the head of the regulatory agency responsible for determining what is legal would be appointed, like most others, by the president. And just because we might start out with a decent person in charge, a few election cycles later we might end up with a Pelosi or Feinstein as the head of the regulatory agency responsible for deciding who can, how they can and where they can carry. And what might be legal today could be changed with the stroke of a pen rather than by congress just like the NFA trust issue. And those changes would not be something we would hear about until after it has been changed like most things done by the Fed. And in the beginning, by default, they would likely use the most restrictive laws as a template to hopefully avoid a lawsuit by those restrictive states and then from there is would only get more restrictive. The Fed does not have a habit of loosening restrictions.2 points

I don't have an invoice handy but doesn't Midway also include insurance on the shipment? UPS covers $100 as their normal coverage, if you want more than that then you pay extra? I know most of my orders are more than that because I collect a wish list if I can wait for the stuff. I then wait until they are offering a discount when you buy X amount of dollars of stuff so for me Midway usually ends up the lowest. YMMV. I did quite a bit of shopping for my recent TGO build and I was on a bunch of sites trying to bundle as much stuff together taking into account shipping charges. At the end of the day Midway, at least on the stuff I was buying, came out several times the cheapest option including shipping because they had the highest quantity of items available without having to go to multiple sites and pay multiple shipping charges. As others have said anything classified as a chemical gets extra charges so I try to limit those types of purchases unless I can't find it elsewhere. For me, Midway or Brownells still get the bulk of my business.2 points

OK! So, as promised, here are some potato pics of the receiver as it came, packaging, and where it lives, for now. A man in a brown suit visits your office. He leaves this, you sign a strange pad. No words are exchanged. Carefully opening your blade, you slice through the package's seams, revealing wadded paper. And one sheet that wasn't. Seems the packer got lazy. (in reality, it was very well packed, despite being the dreaded wadded paper. Enough to provide security from bouncing, not so much as to have paper spring forth from the box as I opened it.) Digging through the wadded paper, you find a long object, wrapped in foam paper! Once again with the knife! (Upper so fancy it has to be wrapped twice! So you have to unwrap it, and it still ain't open.) After the tape holding the foam paper yeilds to your blade, you open it slowly to find this! A lonely barreled upper. So barren. So alone. So you dig through your spare parts, which you have had lying around for months now, and find it a mate! Now it's almost complete! Just need to get a bolt carrier group, shove it in there, and head to the range. Then we'll see how things work. In other news, everything looks to be in good order. Nothing appears to have been beat to crap. Front sight taper pins probably could've been installed a bit further, but they're all the way through. we'll see what happens there. If anyone has questions about certain areas, I'll do my best to answer. But I'm certainly no AR guru.1 point
