This is probably a good place to start in understanding why the Ninth held the way it did: http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2014/02/13/more-on-the-reasoning-of-the-ninth-circuits-right-to-carry-a-gun-opinion/ Volokh is excellent at explaining Constitutional law. It is also interesting that even in the 1800s, courts routinely held that laws prohibiting concealed carry we're constitutional. So, this isn't a new issue. What makes the California laws (like the one in this case) really problematic is that they effectively prohibit ALL carry, not use concealed carry or open carry. Also, just an interesting thought I read in another law review article some time ago. Many of the firearms restrictions that many people (including many here) accept without argument would be unconstitutional if held to the same standard as other constitutional rights. For example, most people believe felons (and particularly violent felons) should not have 2nd Amendment rights. But felons of all kinds are still protected under the Bill of Rights for other things (such as the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 8th Amendments). It would be unthinkable that a felon would have to give up the right (at least in total) to remain silent, to a speedy trial, or to avoid cruel and unusual punishment, but lose all rights under another Amendment (such as the 2nd). Again, just food for thought.3 points

.38 Special. Snakes aren't much of a threat. If you have time to draw and fire at that small of a target you have time to get away. Your main concern is of the 2 legged variety.3 points

Pretty amazing but it does leave me longing for another camera angle. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/02/14/video-starts-off-with-two-deer-on-screen-how-it-concludes-with-both-running-away-after-what-happens-in-the-middle-is-beyond-us/2 points

I carry an old corn Cobb pipe on back country hikes. Don't smoke any other time really. The corn Cobb was my grandfather's and there's something special about a smoke with that pipe out in the wilderness...2 points

I say with this particular criminal, since he likes blowing people up they should take him out in the middle of a big open field, strap a pound of C-4 his chest and put him in a straight jacket, Secure him to a post, plug in a detonator and put it on a 24 hour clock with a set time to explode. Just don't tell him what time it is set for and let him think long and hard about what he did before it goes off. Let the buzzards have whats left......................jmho2 points

It was, but a few years back they fried some POS and his face caught on fire. They stopped using it after that. Executions should go like this: Take 6 death row inmates to the basement of the prison and bring a six shooter. Load one round and spin the cylinder, then line em up and go down the line until someone's luck runs out. Then take the remaining five back up to their cells and repeat the following week with one new inmate in the rotation. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk2 points

I was thinking the same thing, but that's usually what they do with most sink holes. I have a friend who works for TDOT, and I asked him about the sinkhole that happened on the interstate. He said they fill it in and re-pave the road.1 point

I can't believe they've left the museum open and only closed that one area. I wouldn't go anywhere near it. Mammoth Cave is just down the road from there... it's prime area for sink holes.1 point

It's a very interesting read... I've not finish the dissenting opinion yet, but the opinion is very well thought out and appears to be supported by Heller and McDonald. Basically they're saying that the state can regulate the manner in which you carry, but may not create laws or policies that would prohibit the average law abiding citizen from carrying... nor can they regulate away which arm you carry. So while the CA legislature is against open carry, but allows concealed carry that doesn't violate the 2nd amendment, but bu having a policy that limits concealed carry permits and completely prohibits open carry the 2nd amendment has been violated. And they go on to rip 2nd, 3rd, and 4th circuit opinions on the matter... basically saying they relied on historical opinions that are clearly at odds with Heller... I don't totally agree with the opinion, but it's a big deal moving forward for carry rights in places such as LA and SF.1 point

That Wingmaster has some serious character to it. I have a friend that contacted Remington to date a Sportsman 58 and they provided a manufacture date that was several years after the date he purchased the shotgun. Either he's got a bad memory or they have some potential glitches in their records.1 point

Rule break down. Gun stays cold until you are told to make it hot. Dont break 180 or turn up range with your gun out of the holster. Shoot them inside the shooting area. Unload and show a clear weapon when finished then holster....the end1 point

In all honesty I don't think any one of them knows exactly what the law is they are voting on and have no clue how to vote. There are so many people adding little pieces of pork fat here and there that by the time this makes it to the floor a bill that began as maybe have been 5 pages is going to end up with 200 pages and it still will not do anything positive about protecting anyone. As far as gangs in Memphis. Gangs in Nashville control the parks and that is true in about any large town or city. That is where they do most of their drug business and you can bet every one of them is packing a gun.............jmho How many times have you heard on the news or read on line where a shoot out took place in a city park over a drug deal gone bad. It happens all the time in Chicago. Just about every night. Most times the only people hurt are the innocent ones with kids on the play grounds. They want us to go to the parks with our children but not be able to protect them. Sorry folks NOT ME. Don't need to go to a park that bad...........jmho1 point

I was flagging the ammo before, but now I like to have fun with it. I now try to get them to meet by showing a lot of interest and, in some cases, offering a little more if they drive to meet me. The guy that was selling the .22 ammo in Knoxville, i.e. 1200 rounds of Winchester for $200, told me he would even throw in another 100 round box for $200. I now have his Name, Phone Number and email address. I'm not doing anything with this information besides having my own file of a$$holes. I had one guy drive up from Cleveland, TN and meet me at Gander Mountain parking lot in Turkey Creek. The only reason I know it was him was I had his car description, so I would recognize him. Normally I just don't show up, but that day I decided to go out for lunch. I went to GM and saw him and his car in the parking lot, waiting. I just went in GM and looked around. He called me after a few minutes and asks where I was, so I told him I found a better deal and that I didn't need the ammo anymore. Needless to say, he was a tad upset. I received a few strongly worded emails, but that is why I use a throwaway email account to mess with these guys. Maybe I need to add myself to my file of a$$holes.1 point

My wife has been asking for a pipe for years to smoke with me on the boat because I always smoke a cigar out there and she loves the smell. So I finally caved and got her one for Christmas. This is us enjoying her new pipe and a good cigar the day we opened presents.1 point
