I never really liked the terminology "Old Farts" but this makes me feel better about it. And if you ain't one, I bet ya you know one! I got this from an "Old Fart" friend of mine! OLD FART PRIDE I'm passing this on as I did not want to be the only old fart receiving it. Actually, it's not a bad thing to be called, as you will see. Old Farts are easy to spot at sporting events; during the playing of the National Anthem. Old Farts remove their caps and stand at attention and sing without embarrassment. They know the words and believe in them. Old Farts remember World War II, Pearl Harbour , Guadalcanal , Normandy and Hitler. They remember the Atomic Age, the Korean War, The Cold War, the Jet Age and the Moon Landing. They remember the 50 plus Peacekeeping Missions from 1945 to 2005, not to mention Vietnam . If you bump into an Old Fart on the sidewalk he will apologize. If you pass an Old Fart on the street, he will nod or tip his cap to a lady. Old Farts trust strangers and are courtly to women. Old Farts hold the door for the next person and always, when walking, make certain the lady is on the inside for protection. Old Farts get embarrassed if someone curses in front of women and children and they don't like any filth or dirty language on TV or in movies. Old Farts have moral courage and personal integrity. They seldom brag unless it's about their children or grandchildren. It's the Old Farts who know our great country is protected, not by politicians, but by the young men and women in the military serving their country. This country needs Old Farts with their work ethic, sense of responsibility, pride in their country and decent values. We need them now more than ever. Thank God for Old Farts! Pass this on to all the "Old Farts" you know. I was taught to respect my elders. It's just getting harder to find them.4 points

News from Detroit you'll never see in the main stream media: Another would-be burglar was fatally shot Thursday by a homeowner — at least the fifth such incident in recent weeks. Thursday’s shooting happened at about 12:30 p.m. when two men allegedly broke into a home on the 8200 block of Penrod on the city’s west side, Detroit Police Third Deputy Chief Rodney Johnson said. “The homeowner was able to retrieve his weapon, and fired hitting one of the burglars,†Johnson said. “He ran away and collapsed in the driveway. The other burglar was able to escape.†The homeowner heard glass shatter near the rear of his home and found one intruder, believed to be 17 years old, attempting to enter through a window, Johnson said. The resident fired two shots hitting the victim in his chest. The juvenile intruder died. His suspected accomplice, a man in his 20s, fled the scene and is still at-large. This shooting is the fifth incident in the past two weeks, where a resident shot an alleged intruder, said Johnson. "It's a message to the criminals: stop coming into people’s homes unannounced and uninvited," Johnson said. Other recent incidents include: ■A woman in her 50s on Friday shot and killed a man trying to break into her home in the 22000 block of Grove Street. She heard noises at her rear window and shot the intruder in the chest. ■On Feb. 22, two home invaders were killed: At 2 a.m., two men broke into a house on the city's southwest side; the homeowner shot both men. A 21-year-old man died and the other man escaped. Earlier at 12:30 a.m., a woman who was surprised by a gunman when she pulled her car into the garage was able to reach for her own gun and fatally shoot the man. ■In an incident that made national headlines, a woman on Feb. 17 opened fire on three teens who kicked in her door. The alleged intruders, ages 14, 14 and 15, were caught by police, and face home invasion charges. Police Chief James Craig caused a national stir in January when he told The Detroit News he felt the city’s crime rate would go down if more people were armed because it would make criminals think twice about breaking into their homes or attacking them. I've always been treated fairly at Academy Sports. No lies, no misrepresentation. If anything, they have bent over backwards letting me know about deals I was not aware of. Be willing to bet that is the corporate image they want to project. If you play with dirt, expect to get dirty. The question he has to answer to his management; what was in it for him? One doesn't lie to customers and expect his character to stand up to scrutiny.2 points

Profiling. Profiling was all that was lacking from the old method. TSA doesn't do anything except harass regular folks and make politically correct screening. It's the epitome of the political postilion of doing something while doing nothing.2 points

I am also in full support of springing forward and staying there. You just reminded me. An old Indian chief sits in his hut on the reservation, smoking a ceremonial pipe and eyeing two US government officials there to interview him. One government official asks, "Chief Two Eagles, you know the white man for 90 years - his wars and his technological advances, his progress, and the damage he does." The Chief nods in agreement. The official continues, "Considering all this, in your opinion, where does the white man go wrong?" The Chief stares at the government officials for over a minute and then calmly replies "When white man finds land, Indians are running it. No taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, clean water, women do all the work, medicine man free, Indian man spend all day hunting and fishing, all night have sex ..." The chief leans back and smiles. "Only white man dumb enough to think he can improve system like that.2 points

Update: I got a phone call from the District Manager, he was very nice and very apologetic about the situation. Conversation sounded like they confirmed my account of what happend but they have to do their due diligence before any action is taken. He said that he is pulling the tapes from that day and the appropiate action will be taken. He assured me that they have no policy that allows an employee to hold anything for anyone. He is also going to use this incident in his push to get the 22 put back up at the service desk to make sure that this does not happen again. He said he will be back in contact with me in the next couple days after they review the tapes.2 points

In addition to the millions of ammo rounds, the airline passenger molesters are buying 1400 pounds of dynamite. Perhaps for data mining.... http://www.prepperpodcast.com/tsa-orders-over-half-ton-of-high-powered-explosive/#axzz2vO0iidHp1 point

Several years ago I received an heirloom after a relative passed away. It is an ELG black powder flintlock derringer. When I received it, it was in a shadowbox frame and I had it hung on my office wall. Couple weeks ago I bumped the frame and it fell and shattered. So...It gave me an opportunity to get a closer look at the pistol and it has my curiosity up a bit. Hammer and trigger function well. Anyone know much about these old pistols? I've attached some photos below.1 point

Surely you jest at "inferior quality". Even if you do, saying things like "just to piss people off" won't get you far around here If you want some sort of help, you might want to state what your purpose for this pistol will be. Are you going to carry it? Range gun? What? You've given us zero info to go on. If you truly want to talk about "inferior quality" you should buy a Hipoint...it will most likely run better than the Kimber you have your eye on.1 point

Good choice in pistol and wife! Light weight 45 with enough grip to control the recoil. Don't own one but I have shot one.1 point

I'm with MrBrian, buy a Rock River 1911 for under $450, a couple thousand rounds of .45 and shoot several times a week till the equipment limits you. I expect that to happen around 8-10k rounds. Spending a grand on a 1911 and putting a couple of boxes through it, is a recipe for a safe queen. Range membership, spare mags, $40 for a trigger job, cleaning equipment, holster, a couple classes ... go forth and make some noise. BTDT with a Ruger Security Six. It's not the instrument, it's the music. Not what you want to hear ... my apologies for that. Carry on ...1 point

Seen it happen twice before. Yes, TBI will notify local police if someone with warrants is having a background check done.1 point

I bought a used late model 2003 G35 and it was a great car for the money. I liked it so much I bought a new 2006 G35 and 230,000 miles later I'm still driving it. I haven't touched it except for normal maintenance, brakes, shocks etc. It's leaking a little oil now but nothing I can't keep up with. I'll drive it until it quits and then I'll go buy another one. Used this time. 80k is nothing on these cars. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Nice car. My old man has the coupe with a six speed and its a blast to drive. The millage might not be as good as the optimas, but at least you have a nice increase in power from the VQ 35.1 point

There is a reason that alot of SWAT and Special Forces types use the 1911 over a Glock and its not nostalgia or to feel like a badass.1 point

Strategic said it would be around July when they start accepting more applications. They need to expand it a little more before they do. I think he does not want it to get too crowded, which is understandable. It's probably the best range around.1 point

Yep, the 1911 has been around a long, long time and is obviously obsolete. Let you in on a little secret - I've got an 1861 army clone that will kill just as dead, just as quick as they did 150 years ago.1 point

if you watch episodes On Demand at the end they have a five minute bit with the director or somesuch. The episode 7 bit was really good. He explained how he did not want the show to be about gore and shock (paraphrasing) And purposely he showed Harte's reaction to the slaughter of the little girl. It was very much spot on and left us to figure out how bad things got for the girl. It was sickening to let imagination paint that picture. He also commented ona clip of Rust taking the Iberia Parish sheriff at gunpoint mentioning that we have seen the face of the killer. I assume it was the lawn mower man and the sheriff is just a lemming in the killings. Good stuff none the less. Previews of the final episode had me on the edge of my seat. I think the series will end without a firm verdict of what happened. Can't wait until tonight.1 point

The only place I consistently boycott is CTD. They have a long history of sticking it to their customers. On top of that the owner is a crook.1 point

Let's see, various folks here just in the last year state they claim to "boycott" Walmart, Dick's, Gander Mountain, MidwayUSA, CTD, or Troy just off top of my memory. Not to mention a host of local gun shops near them. If I followed each of those leads, don't guess I'd be getting much shootin' gear at all. :) - OS1 point
Still, I would hate to see him fired for something like this. But that's in Academy's hands where it should be.
Yeah, I hear you. No one wants that bad karma, but what does one do? Choice is either to stop patronizing a business or suck it up and accept that you'll never get what you want from that source because it's been corrupted. I would feel obligated to say something to the employer simply out if courtesy. If the employee is a good worker and this is just one screw up, I'm betting they'll just tell him to stop. But if this is an employee with a history of being a poor performer and engaging in shady stuff like this after being told not to, then you have done the manager a favor and it is the fault of the employee 100% if he gets canned. Same here. I put a lot of rounds through my AR's for 3-gun, and i always use the cheapest Russian ammo i can find. It runs flawless for me also. I can't recall ever having a failure with any of it. I was impressed during my last range trip with the accuracy I was getting from Tula at 100yds with the irons. I load up "premium" rounds for my precision AR, but I have no complaints with the Russian steel for most of my shooting.1 point

Springfield Armory Milspec. Colt MKIV (series 70, which just means pre-firing pin safety). Buy spare factory mags. If you can make it up here tomorrow (Sunday), I have 5 in house at the moment and you can help me burn some of this ammo before its' "use-by" date. 4 are Colts, one a Norinco (frame and slide - all the internals are GI). Afraid my brother ran off with my last Springfield Armory. Don't laugh at the Norinco - the van crew from Crane built it for me some 20 years ago. Today a gluck shooter hit a 4"x6" target at 50 yards with his 5th shot. Not sure how long he's gonna stay with the latex love doll of the pistol world, he seems to like the 1911.1 point

Congratulations. I'm trying out a few different kinds of pellets in my new Gamo silent cat. Mine seems to really like the Gamo red fire 7.8 grain pellets. I am using the iron sights (actually fiber optic). My dad has already taken the scope that came with it or I'd let you have it. Best 3 shot group from 25 yards using the side mirror of my truck as a support.1 point

OP, you mentioned this would be your first handgun, so I'm going to ignore the warning and shoot you straight: a 1911 is probably not the best choice. Not the best choice in general, not the best choice at the $1100.00 price point, and certainly not the best choice as a first handgun. I love 1911s. I have had several all up and down the price / performance spectrum. I currently have 2, but they are my least frequently fired guns and would be the first 2 guns I'd let go if I had to let some get away from me. Don't take my word for it - read Hilton Yam's article on why he (well-acknowledged 1911 guru) is moving away from the 1911 platform. http://modernserviceweapons.com/?p=6631 I suggest you try out a Glock 17 or 19 and an M&P FS and compact. Equip one of these with night sights, 2 quality holsters, and a couple of cases of ammo for your $1100.00. And don't forget some training! Hope you enjoy whatever you end up with and let us all know what you chose.1 point

My first choice would be pay a few dollars more for a Springfield TRP. The Springfield Range Officer is a nice pistol in your price range. Their customer service and warranty are excellent. I would also consider a Colt.1 point

I an tell you authoritatively that if I see any ammo that David makes available to our members so that they and their kids can actually shoot for sale anywhere, we're going to have a big issue! David and I have had this conversation multiple times. He makes this ammo available to our members so that kids can continue to learn to shoot. And, I'd encourage you to think about that a little bit. If you're hoarding all your ammo and not getting out and shooting - who's teaching your kids to be responsible gun owners? Shooters can be gone in a generation if we don't support it at home and support the programs like the Boy Scouts that teach kids to shoot. I have ammo set aside, but I also have a deal with all of my friends - that if they're not going to teach their kids how to handle a firearm, then just ask and I'll be happy to teach them how to safely interact with one. And, if I use my last round of .22LR doing that - that's okay.1 point

I don't think management anywhere will look too kindly on employees making side deals and lining their own pockets on the companies' time, premises and inventory. The ones that wouold permit it don't need my business or anyone else's for that matter.1 point

Phone call to Corp offices and was given a Reference # and was told that this situation is being emailed (per my request) to the regional, district, and loss prevention managers and I will receive a call from some one in a day or two to let me know what they find out. maybe I am being a little too harsh but I can't help but wonder - if the firearm owners of Connecticut had the intestinal fortitude to perhaps make another shot heard round the world (i.e. resist with force) then perhaps they should have had the intestinal fortitude to not put such low life anti-constitution legislators in their state legislature.1 point
