2. Yuup.   Big government control freak Republicans are no more a friend of the Constitution, or individual thought (or liberty) than a big government Democrat...they are all just progressives who think that the government is the answer to every problem (when in reality it's usually the cause of the problem).

  5. hardknox, that is funny....   Thread creep.  Check this out.  Somebody with lots of time on their hands...lol     Is Gilligan the Devil? Years ago, CBS had a popular little series called "Gilligan's Island". There is, however, a dark secret about this "comedy" you may never have realized. The island is a direct representation of Hell. Nobody on the island wants to be there, yet none are able to leave. Each one of the characters represents one of the 7 deadly sins: Ginger represents LUST - she wears skimpy outfits, is obsessed with her looks, and is a borderline nymphomaniac. Mary Ann represents ENVY - she is jealous of Ginger's beauty. The Professor represents PRIDE - he is an annoying know-it-all. Mr. Howell represents GREED - no explanation needed. Mrs. Howell represents SLOTH - she has never lifted a finger to help on any of their escape plans. The Skipper represents two sins: GLUTTONY - again, no explanation needed and ANGER - he violently hits Gilligan on each show. This leaves Gilligan. Gilligan is the person who put them there. He prevents them from leaving by foiling all of their escape plots. Also, it is HIS island. Therefore, Gilligan is SATAN. Crazy? He does wear red in every episode.

  7. For what it's worth, I bought Glocks from dealers that were LE trade ins. They came as pistols with one mag in a padded envelope. There were tons of police trades that didn't have boxes with them. People move. People put stuff in the attic.   Trade based on the character of the man you're dealing with, not his lack of factory boxes.
    2 points
  8. Why is that a red flag? Lots of people don't save the factory stuff, or they lose it, or they buy guns used without it. If you ask to see his TN state ID and sign a bill of sale and he declines, or if you have some other reason to believe he is shady then by all means decline the deal, otherwise you should be good to go. But if you insist on running a check you can call your local PD and ask if they will run it for you. Or you can go to any ffl dealer and ask them to do a TICS transfer for you which includes a check for stolen.

  11. As of 8:00 PM this evening, I just completed my 11th day of being tobacco free.  It is all downhill at this point.   I gave up a 14 year smoking habit 11 years ago only to switch to a can to 1.5 cans per day of smokeless tobacco.  While I was going through some flu-like symptoms at the end of Feb, I told myself that there would be no better time to quit since I already felt like s***.  I finished my last dip on Feb 28 at 8:00 PM and haven't looked back since.

Most of the dogs we've had were having none of that! :) My wife was reminding me of all the extra work that puppies are versus getting an older one, but the bonding with the family is worth the work to me. I've been driving home on lunch to check on the lil feller and he gets so excited when I walk in the door.....after he gives his vicious puppy growl to let me know he's on guard

  21. I'm guessing WW is WallyWorld - Wal-Mart, an international big-box retailer that sells everything from food to furniture to TVs to ammo. EW probably stands for Everything Weapons - a local firearms store run by ammo gougers. :-)

That's 2 stores in that area I'll never visit. Mac
This. But I would have limit 1 brick per customer, period. 31. If this were President Bush standing at the podium and saying that these men were being awarded the MoH due to the fact that when they performed their acts of heroism, they were overlooked for racial reasons, it couldn't see it being an issue.  It would be the same thing it is today- doing the right thing even if years later.  But, because of all the racial undertones real or imagined with President Obama, we have debates like this thread.  Never mind that this initiative was part of the 2002 Defense Appropriations bill.  Passed in 2001, a year when the President was a Republican, the House of Representatives was controlled by Republicans and the Senate was a 51/49 split between Democrats (including an independent that caucused with them) and Republicans.  The leading thoughts that this is some racially biased thing President Obama is doing don't pass the smell test.   The military is representative of society and back then, a sizable portion of our country was racist.  To think that those thoughts weren't part of the beliefs for Army leadership who were raised in that environment isn't realistic  I can absolutely believe that not being white or being Jewish instead of Christian made getting them the recognition they deserved more trouble than it was worth for some.  And by some I mean those who had to process these awards several echelons removed from the units these men served in while under fire.  If their race was enough to be a factor in denying them the award, it's enough of a factor to be mentioned when we correct that.  People should be proud that we looked back and publicly said said "this was wrong" and got these men the recognition they deserved.    I get that there are probably hundreds more of every race/ethnicity/skin color that aren't recognized when they should be.  Garlin Conners is hardly alone in this regard.  But I challenge anyone to look at this list, click through the names, read the stories and tell me who among them may have been awarded the MoH for their race, religion or skin color instead of their actions that day after looking at their heroism without the racism of the days they served in clouding peoples views.

  33. OP didn't get the story quite right. Obama doesn't get to pick the recipients as others have pointed out, congress does.    "The presentation came after Congress in a 2002 defense bill ordered a review of thousands of war records to determine whether Latino and Jewish veterans were denied the nation’s highest military decoration because of discrimination."   But it is a little worse, OP makes it sound as though Obama is doing some white/black thing and injecting race. But what Obama said was a little different:   "This ceremony reminds us of one of the enduring qualities that makes America great," Obama said. "No nation is perfect. But here in America, we confront our imperfections and face a sometimes painful past, including the truth that some of these soldiers fought and died for a country that did not always see them as equal." Which is largely true. There are plenty of reasons not to like this particular president without making things up. Here's the worst thing of all: sure Lt. Garlin got the screwjob but a lot of people get the screwjob. Go through the list of recipients and pick out one or a dozen that didn't deserve the medal. In general I believe you should try to pull yourself up instead of dragging others down.

  34. I moved here from CO and watched the state go from conservative/republican to a liberal/democrat majority.   The issue is more and more people do not have what it takes to go out in this world and do what ever it takes to become self sufficient. As the economy worsens, the number of people like this increases., as the standard of living decreases, those type of people increase.   Talk to young people today.    Lots of them have simply given up before they even got started. They had visions, taught by the older generations who raised them, of being able to make a great living etc.....All they talk about now is how life isn't fair, I was lied to, all I can find is a min. wage part time job, the older generations screwed up this country and stole my future etc... They want nothing more than to see wealth redistribution and most vote democrat. Around 65% and this generation is as big as the baby boomers.    Also, the younger generation are more diverse and socially liberal, so when republicans rant about conservative social issues, it turns the young away and they will not vote for them even if they like what else they have to say.    If the trend continues, there is no way to stop it as the old die off and the younger generation become a bigger percentage of the vote. They have the numbers. Some say we have already reached the tipping point. I don't think so personally.

  35.
They did quite a few of these mass MoH ceremonies after the Civil War. Most were rescinded later when reviewed they showed no merit. That medal should not be used in any way as a political statement. That is exactly what the President has done. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2
That wasnt the same. They gave out Medals of Honor to hundreds of National Guardsman as reenlistment bonuses, because there was no standard back then and they needed people to stay in the unit. Comparing that to this is like comparing dog crap to filet mignon. The 24 that received the MoH all deserved it as far as I could tell, but considering there were actual investigations on each one to ensure they met the criteria is more legitimate than what has been done in the past. There are several MoH recipients who did not participate in combat or meet the modern day criteria for the award. There was a general who got it as a service award. Lindbergh even got one. So no, this isn't about Obama. Obama didnt recommend these troops for the MoH. He didnt conduct the investigation into these cases and he didnt authorize the Medal. He simply presented them at a ceremony. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  36. The government has become a monster. They perceive their jobs as being writing bills and passing laws.....more and more bills and more and more laws. With each new law freedom gets smaller and the cost of government gets bigger. It's become a cancer and will eventually collapse.

  37. My daughter and I watch MLP:FiM all the time.   Rainbow Dash is our favorite character. It is a running joke among my friends that I only bought a Mustang because I am a Brony.   Now, I have a minor luxury in this department as I have a little girl, and I know that things will change dramatically in a few years. But she dresses up as a Ninja Turtle and Darth Vader for Halloween and has a massive NERF sword collection. It is the exact same situation as this little boy carrying a Rainbow Dash backpack but in reverse. There isn't a single father here that will call foul when I take my daughter to the range where she can outshoot adults with her own gun, cause that is what she likes doing.    But let a little boy take a Rainbow Dash backpack to school...   IMO this is all part of a dress code, which the reason behind them is no distractions and no bullying. What were the coats a few years back, kids would literally kill one another over them? Or the shoes? I would hate to think that I sent my kid to school with a pair of Jordans and she got killed for them. On the same thought, I would hate to send her to school with the Pro Wings that got me teased when I was a kid. But hey, teasing is what kids do.   I think it is shit that this kid got bullied for his backpack. I think it is shit that the school banned his backpack. But, this is the world we live in, and as long as the majority allows this to happen, it will only get worse.

  41. Good ol' Dub Taylor, one of the best character actors to ever bless the screen.  You might know him from hundreds of western flavored movies, including his roles as Cannonball in the B-movies, C.W. Moss' father in Bonnie and Clyde and the town preacher in the opening scenes of The Wild Bunch.  I got to spend some time back in the '70s with him and his son, Buck, who played Newly on Gunsmoke.  There's no finer pair of gentlemen you'll ever meet.  Dub's gone on to his reward now, and Buck is a highly respected western artist.

  49. I live in Brentwood, and there are a lot of people with stupid money here.  And, there are plenty of places that cater to exactly that crowd.    There are also some great folks here!  Like anywhere, there's some truth to the old statement that if you don't look deep enough, you'll find exactly what you were expecting to see.   At my daughters school, there aren't nearly as many kids on free or reduced lunch as in other areas of metro - but it's higher than you might think around 25-30%.  We're on the Davidson county side of Brentwood, so our school is actually pretty diverse.   There are rich and middle class and even some who are truly poor, here.  Luckily for most of us, the rich do a pretty good job walling themselves up in their gated enclaves.  But, anytime any of you are here, come on down and shoot me a note.  Let's have some tacos or something :)
