You should know that if you use a firearm in justifiable self defense or defense of another, none of the weapons section penalties are applicable, permit or not, so that's a pretty moot point. Certainly, having a legal firearm in the car is a big benefit, same as in your domicile. Maybe you take a nap at a rest area or truck stop and get accosted, maybe you come to the defense of your spouse who is outside the car toting purchases, maybe any other reasonable circumstances nearby but not actually in the confines of your vehicle -- parking lots indeed are a large percentage of robberies, shootings, etc. . Point is, law abiding folks are much more likely to be able to respond to whatever arises nearby outside the vehicle when they can legally pack heat inside the vehicle, that's only logical. Same with your home. The castle doctrine does not give you the same presumption for deadly force outside the confines of your home, you are certainly fee to respond outside if circumstances dictate your reasonable fear of death or serious injury, something you couldn't do if you couldn't also keep loaded weapons inside the home. Yes, there's a minor difference, since you can pack heat anywhere on your property, but that is a technical one, as the rules regarding deadly force outside the domicile are the same as on the street. Yes, stepping outside your vehicle with a loaded gun and no permit could possibly get you a Class A, B, or C Misdemeanor conviction. It could also save your or another's life in justifiable self defense, with no charge at all. But risking conviction every day for simply having a loaded firearm in your vehicle is absurd, law abiding folks won't do it, and hence have no chance of saving that life. Being able to have loaded firearms inside your vehicle without a permit is indeed the biggest stride toward the intent of 2A in TN since carrying a firearm became a crime in the first place. - OS4 points

Do yourself a favor, (if you are bothered by those who don't know anything about TN gun laws) never go to LP and do a walk around and talk to the legislators, I have never met a group with less knowledge of the laws than that gaggle.4 points

No, the reason why anti's have such an easy time is because even people who say they are 2nd Amendment supporters still place the blame for violence on the wrong party. Do you blame the manufacturer of the gun? Does the potential for irresponsible behavior justify the denial of our rights? I'm going to come out against anyone who comes out against this removal of an unconstitutional law, whatever their reasoning. Period.3 points

About a month ago I didn't own a Glock. Didn't like 'em, didn't want one. That all changed when a guy let me shoot his Gen 4 G19 one day. I liked it, I REALLY liked it. Don't really know how it happened but after today I now own 3 of these butt ugly abominations. I picked up a Gen 4 G34 to keep my 19 and 26 safe. Hopefully I've got whatever it is out of my system and can go back to lusting over 1911's. Now excuse me while I go find a set of competition sights and a magwell for the 34.2 points

Complaints/suggestions from my experiences. Don't charge for parking. $10 entrance fee is too steep. Too small of a venue makes it difficult to get around and look. It is a "gun show" for a reason. Several in the area only seem to be about 50% firearm related. I know a paying vendor is money to the sponsor, but really wish they would screen vendors and make sure it would be a worthwhile table.2 points

By using the logic in your argument, it implies that we should not keep firearms in our home either... Heaven forbid that someone break into one's home, steal a gun, and use it in the commission of a crime. Again by your logic, one may not be charged with the commission of a crime, but one may still face the possibility of a lawsuit. Try explaining that one away... Most consumer-quality gun safes are no more secure than a locked vehicle-- a sawz-all with a proper blade and a crowbar can make speedy work of many so-called gun safes-- just like a slim-jim and a screwdriver can do for a car. Sorry, but a straw-man argument doesn't work in this situation. The risk for theft of a firearm is certainly not limited to automobiles. I'll just have to agree to disagree with your logic on this one. I'm sure you have your personal reasons for concern and I respect that, but the theoretical example you give doesn't really work as a valid reason for not being able to defend oneself while traveling. Oh, and even though I disagree with you on this, thank you for your LEO service (really). :usa:2 points

Just get rid of the whole silly fine over a sign and forget it. Most states do not fine people with licenses over signs. What does it accomplish in TN? Absolutely nothing but gives someone ammo to hassle someone.2 points

I leave the fisticuffs to the UFC guys I watch on TV. I've found that holding your tongue and looking with both eyes goes a LOOONNNGGG way in preventing the need to brawl.2 points
I don't know. I don't hear about gangsters and thugs having too many ADs and they carry all the time, often with poor, incorrect fitting or no holste at all. If they can do it, I'm willing to bet most anyone with the desire and ability to carry a gun openly will be fine, and again it would seem statistics would back this up as we're not talking about anything new. Hope it all goes through.
Yeah, we can anecdotally trade stories about untrained carriers having NDs and such, but we could also tell stories of police officers and highly trained military personnel having NDs. I have some stories. Many folks here have some too. We chalk those stories up to stupid people existing in all walks of life. Stupid people will carry guns too. Funny, the same reasons gun owners take issue with constitutional carry are the same reasons anti-gunners don't want folks to have guns in the first place. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk2 points

These are the guns we willing accept the practice of turning in for "guns for cash" programs. ...in fact, I used to work in a machine shop with a fella who turned a profit selling Lorcin and Jennings and RG handguns to buy back programs.1 point

Having a lot of experience in craft and hobby fairs, mostly as a seller, but also as a small show promoter; I can understand everyones' comments about admissions fees and types of offerings at the current crop of gun shows around the country. I understand that we as attendees want more guns and gun related items than non-related. I know that entrance fees are high, and that spaces are usually cramped. But the real, harsh truth of the matter is that it isn't going to change. Available venues are slim. Rental cost are going thru the roof. Liability costs are increasing almost daily. Expenses are increasing even faster. These are items that you as a promoter really have no control over. If you can get a rental on exhibit space, public or political conditions may cause you problems in getting in once you mention fireams displaysand sales. And the thought of just any john q. public possibly walking around with a gun not controlled behind that secure table or on a rope or chain just sends some building owners or manages into screaming shakes of fear. And when you get an available venue, you'll almost always have to relax the standards on who you will rent space to just to meet the necessary rental fees. I guess what I'm saying is that most of us need to get off our high horse and realize the real world restrictions and necessities of renting commercial space and filling it with vendors. It ain't easy. I know this for truth from experience. We can complain and gripe about show promoters forever, but it doesn't change the immutable facts of cost and the numbers needed to meet expenses, let alone make a profit. Good luck. I hope you can manage it and be successful. Now...as to our "wants" in a gun show. Pricing should be better than local retail pricing. How? Pricing is fixed except for the larger dealers; those with very high volume sales numbers. Small lgs can't lower their pricing and survive. that goes for guns and accessories and supplies. About the only way to sell lower is to buyer cheaper. How to do that? Not have a brick and mortar location? Sure that will cut down some costs, but you still haveto have and FFL for firearms. And getting one without a fixed location these days is darn near impossible. It can be done, but not easily. Content of the show. Well, that is something the promoter can control. I'm sure many try, but still comes down to meeting the requirements for rental dollars. If you are several spaces short of full; what do youdo? Pay it out of your pocket? Or find somone willing to rent that space. You decide. Have more individuals selling personal guns by renting tables. I have done that. It can be fun. It can be productive, as in moving something I no longer want. It can also be a pain in the ass. How many times do you want to hear "I can get it cheaper, or it's not worth that much?" "I can get it on the internet at a better price." And the clandestine visits by the BATFE guys. How do you do this? Sell many? Making anything today? Not all of the people walking around asking those innocent questions are doing it just to be friendly. And how many lgs owners really want to see an individual he's sold to out there cutting into his sales and profits? We all know that the greatest profits for the shop are on trade in sales and used guns. I'm sure these dealers just love having us across the way staring them in the face. Yes, there are exceptions to all of these arguments. But in the whole, I think all I've said is valid. And now...the disclaimer. All previous comments are Just My Opinion.1 point

And just what is your solution to the myriad of locations that we all go into everyday where we are not allowed to carry regardless of permit? Post Office comes to mind as well as many many other locations... If someone breaking into my car and steals a gun that I'm forced to leave behind as a law abiding citizen I will be upset over the violation of my personnel space but I'll not bat an eye over how it is ultimately used as after all I'm not the one who broke the stupid law in the first place... Apply your logic to our homes and it would suggest that we should not leave our guns at home alone either!1 point

You can go on ebay and buy 1 inch inserts for 30mm scope rings. They are normally less than $10. I try to buy 30mm rings with the inserts because they will work with most scopes out there.1 point

I don't think we can rely on the NRA to do anything for us at the state level. And I'm OK with that as long as they keep any more federal level restrictions from coming down on us. We need to all be members of the TFA and send them our support. The TFA is the organization that is going to focus on these issues with TN state law. I heard John Harris outline his plan for the upcoming elections at the recent Knoxville TFA meeting, and I think it is our best chance at fixing some of the issues with the supermajority that no longer wants to listen to us.1 point

When I carry (which is dang near 24/7) I am 100x more polite to others than I ever imagined I could have been. No more angry stares while driving, no confrontational body language, no outward expression of any level of frustration with other humans that may trigger any level of argument.....nothing. Not going to risk any level of escalation accusation. My first pathway to safety is to create and keep as much distance as possible. In the highly unlikely event that I encountered force-on-force aggression against me, I would look like the biggest sissy on the face of the earth trying to get away. Not because I'm afraid of them, but because I'm afraid of the outcomes associated with having to get involved with any type of conflict when armed. Get in a fight with a gun on ya, and nothing good ever happens to anyone. That said, if I ever did have to lay hands on someone it would be to create distance and escape harm up to, and including, the use of deadly force to protect me and mine. Key things that I've learned from 40+ years of martial arts is that distance is our friend, and that you NEVER lay hands on someone unless they absolutely give you no choice...you just don't know what they know, and they may just stomp a mudhole in your a$$ and walk it dry. And, to boot, I just avoid places most likely to harbor confrontational types that like to tangle. piercedan, on 17 Apr 2014 - 1:43 PM, said: And I agree.....'cept I carry two.
It's virtually a 30-06, which is a bit flatter shooting than the standard .308. Cut down the barrel re-crown it and get the trigger decent and a Mosin will shoot with a Remington 700 that has had the same work. They are pretty similar so I'm not sure why the comparison seems so exaggerated in your mind? I say the same thing about most guys that brag about their "sniper" rifle setups. Most of them couldn't do it with a 700 any better than a Mosin. In short, it's not the gun. ;)
Well, actually, it is the gun. A great shooter cannot outshot a rifle's capability. I can't hand Carlos Hathcock my 30-30 and expect him to take out Viet Cong at 1000m. He couldn't do it. I agree, having a sooper dooper sniper rifle doesn't mean you can hit squat. I imagine I could outshoot many folks with a mosin if they were shooting an AI super gun. Doesn't mean that the mosin is on par with that super gun though. You can believe that a mosin shoots just as well as a MOA Remington 700. You'd be wrong though. I would get into the ammo thing, but I don't suppose you'd believe me either if I told you that 118LR is much different than some soviet surplus spam can special.
