4. But reality doesn't back up your theory....   Citizens varying from no training (most people) to a lot of training are 5 times less likely to kill an innocent person in a justified self defense shooting than a police officer which we know has a lot more training than your average citizen.   The entire point of carrying a gun is that it requires little to no training for an individual to protect themselves...   If you were right, where is all the innocent people getting killed in the 30 states that allow unlicensed open carry?   I think people should get training, it's a good idea...  one that I strongly recommend when somebody asks me about getting a firearm...  but I don't think it's the governments business to make people get training...  I'm just not concerned about getting shot and killed by a good guy with a gun...  Government officials with sovereign immunity on the other hand terrify me.

 6. Around 9 o'clock last night the power went out as the wife was heating up some noodles on the stove. It was a rolling blackout or, more likely, some drunken driver hit a pole. Three hours later the juice was still off so there wasn't much to stay up for. I finally drifted off after 30 minutes, but just dozing. At about 2 a.m. I was awakened to the alarming voice of the wife saying, "Oh, my God!.....Oh, my God!" I instinctively knew she wasn't talking to me. Turns out the noodle pot was left on the electric burner. When the power was restored, the water boiled off and the noodles started to burn. Smoke filled the kitchen pretty quickly and she just happened to wake up at the right time. As it says in the Psalms, "He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep." I'm thankful that He kept an eye peeled on our house, too.

 7. QUESTION: Where do the threads go when they are deleted?    1) The Catholic's approach to deleted threads: The nice threads go to thread heaven, where life is good. The threads are bathed in the light of happiness, all their troubles are soothed, and there's not a delete thread button in sight. Most of the nice threads are A's and I's, those that have never been, er, involved with other threads. Often, you'll see A's or I's with N's or T's. These are threads in love: monogamous on the page, together again after deletion. You'll see quite a few Q's too. They seem to feel particularly guilty for no good reason. The naughty threads are punished for their sins. In case you were wondering what the difference between a nice thread and a naughty thread is, I'll tell you. Naughty threads are those involved in the creation of naughty words, such as "breast," "sex," "objectivity," and depending upon usage, words such as "feminism," "reproductive freedom," "contraception," and "science." You may ask, and rightly so, why the threads are blamed for the words they assemble, when in fact they are not responsible for their own configuration. But we feel that a thread has an obligation to oppose any naughtiness in its own configuration. If it truly felt guilty about the word it was forming, it would rebel. --------------------------------- 2) The Buddhist Explanation: If a thread has lived rightly, and its karma is good, then after it has been deleted it will be reincarnated as a different, higher thread. Those funny characters above the numbers on your keyboard will become numbers, numbers will become letters, lower-case letters will become upper-case, and the most righteous and good of letters will become C's. Why C, you ask? Who knows, but C it is! If a thread's karma is not so good, then it will move down the above scale, ultimately becoming the lowest of characters, a space. -------------------------------------- 3) The 20th Century bitter cynical nihilist explanation: Who cares? All threads are the same, swirling in a vast sea of meaningless nothingness. It doesn't really matter if they're on the page, deleted, undeleted, underlined, etc. It's all the same. More threads should delete themselves. (nihilist threads are easy to identify. They're usually pale and tragic, and they smoke a lot.) -------------------------------------- 4) The Mac user's explanation: All the threads written on a PC and then deleted go straight to PC hell. If you're using a PC, you can probably see the deleted threads, because you're in PC hell also. -------------------------------------- 5) Stephen King's explanation: Every time you hit the key you unleash a tiny monster inside the cursor, who tears the poor unsuspecting threads to shreds, drinks their blood, then eats them, bones and all. Hah, hah, hah! ------------------------------------- 6) Dave Barry's explanation: The deleted threads are shipped to Battle Creek, Michigan, where they're made into Pop-Tart filling; this explains why Pop-Tarts are so flammable, while cheap imitations are not as flammable. I'm not making any of this up. ------------------------------------- 7) IBM's explanation: The threads are not real. They exist only on the screen when they are needed, as concepts, so to delete them is merely to de-conceptualize them. Get a life. ------------------------------------- 8) Environmentalist's Explanation: You've been DELETING them???? Can't you hear them SCREAMING??? Why don't you go CLUB some BABY SEALS while wearing a MINK, you pig!!!!

 11.   That's on the individual though.  If they don't want a permit then that is their business.  I think we can look at other states which have permitless open carry and vehicle carry as examples of systems that work just fine.  People still get permits who wish to travel out of state.  Honestly, while I support Constitutional carry, I have no problem with keeping a permit system for the purpose of carrying in other states, and I support those other states to have their own laws governing carry.  I don't live there so it isn't my business to say otherwise.

 14. Everyone makes mistakes, good mechanics fess up when they do. I fail to understand how the car left the service bay with missing parts. When I think I'm done working on the car, the first thing I do is look around for stuff that I might have forgotten to reinstall. At the end of the day, the mechanic should be cleaning up his work area and found the parts. He should have told his boss immediately, who should have called the customer immediately. Sure, that's a bit embarrassing but it's better a lot better than the customer finding it days later.

 19. Sorry for such a long delay, but I finally installed the truck holster. Even with removing the panel (5 or 6 screws), the project too only 30 minutes, give or take. Not bad at all. As I put some thought into how I was going to install the holster, I was slightly concerned that, over time, the plastic panel would begin to crack from the pressures of continually inserting and removing the firearm. As luck would have it, that panel is almost completely backed with metal reinforcement. Who knew? Three of the four bolts go through both the plastic panel and metal backing. That thing isn't going anywhere. Because I have large/fat hands, along with the curvature of the panel, I had to use 1 inch spacers on the left side, and 1 1/2" spacers on the right. This allows enough space for me to get a comfortable hold on the grip. Also, even being big and tall, there is no way my legs would ever come in contact with the holster. I tried moving every which way, and I couldn't even get close. This is in a 2002 F-150 XLT. I tried to come up with an alternative location to install the holster, but this was about as good as it was going to get. I know a couple people who've been using those Gum Creek holsters for a few years, and they haven't experienced any issues. We shall see.

 21. I go around and around in my head with this issue myself...I've hunted with a firearm since I was big enough to fire a 410 shotgun...I've owned my own 12ga since I was 12 (and I think it was still legal then :) )...I've owned and do own many firearms and I believe in training and try to do at least two major classes per year as well as my own training regiment. I really DO understand how important it is for someone to KNOW how to use a firearm properly and safely and how dangerous a person can be to themselves and other innocent people if they DON'T KNOW.   HOWEVER...   I ALSO believe that people have a basic, natural/God-given right to carry ARMS for their own protection and for the protection of other innocents...that includes but is not limited to firearms. Our Constitution recognizes and protects that right and there is nothing in our Constitution that requires "training" to bear arms any more than the Constitution requires a certain level of IQ and/or education before being allowed to exercise (or not exercise) their chosen religion or to engage in free speech. So...I am left to conclude that "permit-less" carry is what our Constitution demands and that ALL laws restricting the right to keep and bear arms IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

 27. jeff43 you are not wrong but that safety is lawyer speak for, "it's gotta have it or you will be sued" but they break fairly easy. If the hammer slams forward on it it will break. A lot of the cowboy guys remove them. I left mine in and figured I'd just be careful not to drop the hammer on it. I probably still have my original hammer springs laying around here somewhere. I'm also pretty sure they are comparable between the .357 and .45 as the trigger assembly is the same. Just the barrel and cylinder are different sizes, I have a matched pair of open 1860's in .45 Scholfield. I had called Wolfe and asked them if they sold spring kits for the open tops. They said they only sold Cattleman spring kits. I took my Cattleman and 1860 apart and compared the hammer springs. They were exactly the same springs. I have no idea why they say they don't carry them except maybe the other springs don't work. I plan to slick up the pair of 1860's this summer since they're definitely a lil slower than the Cattleman. The open tops looks like this old gun I sold. This was the same but in .38/357. I wanted the larger caliber. ***NOTE: Edited to clarify what I said above....I would suggest you DO NOT rely on that 1st click safety. As I originally said I rest my hammer on an empty chamber and IMHO anytime I see a pin that can stick into the chamber and onto a primer then I treat that gun like it has no safety.***

 28. This is just a general statement and not directed at any one person. You can complain all ya want, but show me a doctor, lawyer, judge, carpenter OR mechanic that hasn't made a mistake and I'll call them a liar. If you expect every person you meet to be perfect, well, you are expecting too much. A tech working in a busy shop gets pulled ten different directions at any one time. Things happen and I can assure you that most mechanics are more disappointed that it happened than you are.  If you can do a better job I recommend doing it yourself. But don't get mad or complain when you are charged to fix your mistakes. What most people don't know is this- A lot of the independent shops bring your car to the dealer without you ever knowing it. The dealer fixes it and the independent shop returns it to the owner and charges a little more. It happens!  Try fielding calls every day and have Bubba asking "I got a code bla bla bla. What's wrong with this thang?" And then go back and remember exactly what you were doing before. 95% of the time all is good, the other 5% can cause a headache.     These topics piss me off because there are good mechanic and bad mechanics (kind of like gun owners). There are bad mechanic in good dealers and independent shops, and there are good mechanics in bad dealers and independent shops. Not every shop and mechanic is perfect but that doesn't make them all terrible people. If a dealer/mechanic steals from you call them out and start a post about it.     I'm going to start a stupid driver thread.    I had an owner get mad at me the other day because he drove his vehicle with the oil light and "NO OIL PRESSURE STOP ASAP" text display on. This caused the engine and turbo to seize.  When the service writer asked me to talk to the customer on the phone he started off with a " I know a lot about cars". If that were the case then he would have pulled over immediately.  So all drivers must be stupid, right? No! The guy made a mistake. He tried to get to the next exit and it cost him. The guy at Mini made a mistake and it cost him. He saved the parts in hopes you would return. He more than likely got a butt chewing once you left. Smart people can make a mistake but dumb people keep making the same mistake. Not that it helps the OP but he probably won't let it happen again.

 31. A light trigger should not be an issue on a SA Cowboy gun. They're meant to be light and crisp on the break. Since you have to manually draw back the hammer to cock and  shoot the gun the only time you have to worry about a light trigger is when you want to shoot it and then you did everything to do just that.    Three other things I forgot to mention if yer new to SA Cowboy guns.  1)  Cattlemen have no blocker bars. Always load 5 and leave the hammer on the empty cylinder. The load sequence is; load one, skip one, load the other 4, fully cock and lower the hammer on the empty chamber. 2)  Never dry fire a Cowboy gun with a protruding firing pin. They can break. 3) If you push the cylinder pin in too far it will prevent the gun from firing as it blocks the hammer from falling all the way.   Lp.

If I'm in reasonable fear for my life, laws are moot anyway, aren't they? If I'm staring death in the face I'm not too worried about a court case, am I? I'm gonna defend myself with any means necessary. If the law says that I'm required to die in place rather than pull a firearm, I guess I'll spend the rest of my life in prison, but at least I'll be alive. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
