  3.   There are no such provisions specified whatsoever.   "SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 39-17-1307, is amended by deleting subsection (e) in its entirety and substituting instead the following:   (e)   (1) It is an exception to the application of subsection (a) [illegal possession]  that a person is carrying or possessing a firearm or firearm ammunition in a motor vehicle if the person: (A) Is not prohibited from possessing or receiving a firearm by 18 U.S.C. § 922(g) or purchasing a firearm by § 39-17-1316; and ( B ) Is in lawful possession of the motor vehicle   (2) As used in this subsection: (A) “Motor vehicle” has the same meaning as defined in § 55-1-103. ( B } “Motor vehicle” does not include any motor vehicle that is: (i) Owned or leased by a governmental or private entity that has adopted a written policy prohibiting firearms or ammunition not required for employment within such a motor vehicle; and (ii) Provided by such entity to an employee for use during the course of employment."   (existing subsection e is the various mess about loaded chamber for permit holders and proximity of ammo to unloaded gun for others)   - OS

  7. What are LEOs like this going to do when starting next week even those without an HCP can legally have a firearm in their car?   It is one thing if he would have said, "I would have preferred...." Maybe even if he'd said, "You should....." Just hate when they don't know, or even worse, purposely misquote, the law.

  9. Stopped in my LGS to pickup a grip plug for one of my Glocks and somehow walked out with an S&W 637 Airweight. I'm not much of a revolver guy but I figured it'll be a good pocket gun for the summer. And hell, everybody needs a J frame.

  12. I'm think that the cop knew full well there is no legal requirement for a citizen to inform them if they have a HCP and/or are armed during a stop.  But since there is no consequence for a police officer to lie to a citizen, he may just be trying to get compliance one person at a time with what he thinks is best.  He seems like the "respect my authoritah" type of LEO.

  26. Well the question has been answered a few times so now you are gonna get everyone's (including mine) opinion on if you should or shouldn't show it to him.  :pleased:   I do as others stated above have said and roll windows down, lights on, DL and HCP ready to go. I do not do this to make the officers life easier but do it with the hope that me being so courteous and all will result on not getting a ticket. If the officer is going to write it either way what do you have to lose?

  27.   Recall that a couple of years ago, Metro went on a recruiting drive up in the North for officers that had been laid off by their local city governments.  One of former Police Chief Ronal Serpas' good ideas (along with fixing his son's DUIs).   Most of those officers came from socialist...., oops I meant democrat controlled cities.  Their background & experience in those socialist (Dang there I go again - I mean democrat) controlled departments established in the mind of those transplanted officers that licensed armed citizens are a threat.   Count it as a training scar.

  28. I live in an area where it seems as though we are a route for aircraft, both military and civilian, so seeing and hearing aircraft overhead isn't all that uncommon. Every day we hear aircraft but most are civilian aircraft. Well starting about four days ago there has been a constant hum of aircraft flying overhead. In the past four days I have not gone more than 30 minutes without hearing, or seeing, several aircraft flying over head. Civilian aircraft sound different than military aircraft and every one I hear now sounds like military aircraft. I have also seen Chinooks heading to Knoxville. And for those that do no know you cannot fly a Chinook overseas directly. It must be loaded on other aircraft and then transported.   Now I understand summer is the time for all the National Guard to be training but this is more than just training.   Now the last time we have seen this amount of activity was in the weeks before the invasion of Iraq.   So who wants to speculate as to where we are going. I say we are going back into Iraq or possibly, as much of a bad idea it is, into the area of Ukraine.

  31. Like most of you will probably end up with the box o' holsters until you find the ONE (or two) It's been my experience IWB is such a personal choice based on body shape and attire that what works may not work. Crossbreed is very popular here on TGO, yet I don't find them comfortable preferring N82 tactical. I have also learned holsters with full sweat shields are a compromise; they can impede getting a good/proper grip when drawing

  33. I'm not an expert, but would opine one shot stops from a handgun are due to placement not energy, caliber, expansion or magic. Since I'm not a special forces operator and do not have a similar training program, I'll stick with more rounds of cheaper-to-practice-with 9mm If I want to send some additional handgun heat down range, I'll break out my .357 With my limited ballistical knowledge, if I was Leo or military, I think I'd want a high cap in .357sig.

  34. Let me try it from another angle. My wife works for Vanderbilt, so you could say they pay my bills.   Also, I simply find the average UT fan to be obnoxious. I don't see that among Vanderbilt fans.   To be totally honest, I'm rooting for a particular little league all star team as well as Macon County High School. My family is represented on both teams. Short of that, I really don't care too much who wins or loses a game.

  39. If they get caught delaying traffic stops because a person has a gun and *might* be a prohibited person...  They'll have problems.     Second, up until July 1st, having a loaded gun has been a crime...  that goes away in your car...  so they can't detain you for having the gun anymore, unless they have RAS that you specifically are a prohibited person.   The other big surprise for officers.. 39-17-1351(t) doesn't apply to non-permit holders...  so there is no 'disarming for safety' of non-permit holders who has a loaded firearm in their vehicle under state law.     Since the new law creates an exception to 39-17-1307, not a defense to it...  I foresee a lot of officers having issues with the new law, and a number of lawsuits coming from it.

  40. Terminal ballistics are so fuzzy, with many variables. I like the added capacity and lower cost of 9 and 40. Those are my main reasons for choosing those calibers. And Smith doesn't make a Shield in .308 win.

  43.   I think the in vehicle thing is a big deal. More folks will benefit from that than anything else they could pass. My girlfriend usually only carries one in the car when she's away from the house. She stays in pretty safe areas.

  45. Had the same thing happen in Alcoa a couple years ago. Officer gave me a lecture on the side if Alcoa Highway about how the law requires that I tell him as soon as he walks up and they should have told me that when I took the course and blah, blah, blah. I didn't argue, for various reasons. But later, I went to speak to a supervisory officer. He told me the same thing! So there is a lot of ignorance floating around out there. To be a contrarian, if ever pulled over I will not offer any voluntary information. I tend not to indulge ignorance.

  49. Here's mine! I haven't had an AR in about 5 years, and I am SUPER excited to have one again! It's nothing awesome...just a PSA black friday upper and a crummy truglo 3 color dot. That's about all of the budget for now. As long as this red dot holds on and works, a buis set is next, and THEN a better optic.
