  1. With the opening of a new BPS here in Bristol, one of my son's friends applied for and was offered a position.  The last day of training, they were reviewing store policies, and the new employees were advised that they cannot store an otherwise legally-owned firearm in their vehicle while parked at the BPS - to do so will be grounds for immediate dismissal.  He questioned his understanding of the policy, and was told that he did understand it correctly - and that this was BPS's corporate policy.  He politely handed his "uniforms" back to the manager and told them that he would not be taking the position.   Hopefully, the Cabela's that is building a store just 6 miles up the road will have a bit more common sense.

  5. I have read on the internet (so you know it must be true) that light bullets going very fast are purported to be the problem. 110s and 125s at max speed are to be avoided according to lore.   That is one helluva carry piece! Congratulations.

  6. Did you notify anyone at the church of your wife's condition. Sometimes we take it for granted that they know of our problems. You may want to give them a call. Just saying

  7. I think it was the 125's that were cracking the forcing cones.

  8. I prepare and maintain preparedness in order to protect the prescious lives of my loved ones.  Protecting my own life (being able to partner/provide as a husband and instruct/love as a parent) is a part of that.     I don't want to be in a situation to have to employ deadly force; I would much rather Avoid, Evade, or Escape.  "Engage" remains the last option on that short, comprehensive list.  Gunfights are a nasty business, and there is nothing in me that needs to prove anything to anyone by choosing "Engage" when one of my other three options remain.  That's why Situational Awareness is my first defense employed... always.

  11. I'm not preparing for anything.....I'm already prepared.   I carry a handgun for the same reason there is a jack, spare tire, jumper cables, and flashlight in my truck. Just in case.   If I have reason to believe there will be trouble, I'll be somewhere else, or else I'll have a rifle.

  14. I've been reading that some 357 magnum loads can crack the forcing cone on this model, but 158gr loads are ok. Anyone know if this true??? I don't want to break this one. It has some carry wear, but it shoots great Oh, here's some pics With Hogues

  15. A federal judge in California has struck down a law that requires a 10-day waiting period for gun purchases, but only for current gun owners who have already passed a background check and those who have a permit or certificate of eligibility to own a gun.   http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/08/25/federal-judge-strikes-down-california-gun-purchase-waiting-period-in-some-cases/

  16. Thanks, the 3" k frames are awesome. They are the smallest and lightest guns I care anything about shooting magnums. I shoot some magnums through my 640 but it is just for laughs. I have some dies if you want to borrow them.

  17. I think it's amusing that there is a local pro gun group that routinely has meetings of 100+ members and the Daily Times will not give them any coverage.  Yet DMA has 12 fat aces show up for a cook out requiring 1 and a half packs of hotdogs and it warrants a story.  The Daily Times has always sucked and been horrible at reporting anything, and likely always will.

  18.   Like OS said, as long as don't put a stock on it first, good to go. Build it as a pistol and can swap back and forth, being careful not to have a stock and short barrel on at the same time. Mine is built solely as a pistol, so if I mount the 16" upper it becomes a "firearm" from what I have read because of the length but no stock. These laws can get confusing quickly.   I thought about going with a 300BO but like I said I have no use case for it. A lot more work for reloading with cutting down the brass, and the caliber itself does little for me. Not going to suppress it, at close range for deer hunting the 5.56 works well, and for long range I have a 30-06. Would rather keep it a 5.56 upper for cheaper shooting.

  21.   Feels great in hand, but the point is the stress of the angles it will put on your arm and wrist with the short length of pull using the brace from the shoulder.   The more upright K2 models alleviate that, it really is an amazing difference for the small change in angle. It's why the AK grip with Warsaw length stock is at same angle.   I had regular MOE grip on mine with the SIG brace, but switched. I even changed to the K2 on my non-SIG braced pistol too, found much improved even when shooting with tube alongside cheek. Anyway, just thought I'd mention it.   - OS

  23. I believe it's a SIG MPX pistol. Which I guess is an AR, just a piston driven one. http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductList/sig-mpx-sig-mpx.aspx But you can do the same with direct impingement ARs also: - OS

  24. It generally happens because of lead build-up that causes stretching of the forcing cone. If one cleans the forcing cone frequently all of the weights will be safer.

  25. Like Patton says... Heavier bullets.... I like 13.5 to 15 grains of 2400 and anybodies 158 grain hard cast semi wadcutters with standard primers and a real heavy crimp....   leroy

  26. Generally 140 grain and heavier magnum loads traveling less than 1300 FPS are less prone to issues. Any 158 gr should be safe as long as it is traveling less than 1250 FPS.

  28. Cops won’t search your car unless it’s an investigation into a criminal offense. Having a gun in your car is not an offense. The store can ask to search, you can refuse and they can fire you. I’m sure this all driven by the lawyers and insurance companies.

  29.   Note that the primary purpose of the crown is to protect the rifling from damage should you whack the muzzle on something.  A flat muzzle that's square to the bore and deburred will function just fine.    That said, you don't know if it has accuracy problems until you shoot it.

  30. If I recall properly, the law just states you can't be prosecuted for it; especially now that no permit is required to have a handgun in a vehicle. However, an employer can still fire you for any reason they choose.

  31. I'm more worried about ball cancer than I am about meeting AQ outside of their stomping grounds. Of course they'll try to attack us again and probably succeed to some degree, but the chances of being a direct victim or being in a position to intervene is about as likely as Jennifer Anniston showing up at my door to service me and make a sammich. Not saying that I don't fantasize about that happening, and keep hope alive that it does, I'm just realistic about the odds. I carry because it is my duty to protect my family, and a firearm is more effective than a broadsword, although not nearly as fashionable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  32.   I didn't. I assumed the 1st two were I-40 and the Old Man. Rail lines and I-55, which is the most direct road link between the great lakes and the gulf, make 4.       I still don't know anyone would notice, though. I suppose someone might think that the "after" was a city-wide beautification project.

  34. What am I preparing for?     The Defender's Creed John Farnam I accept and understand that human predators exist. Criminal or terrorist, they take advantage of our civilized society to prey upon the weak. They represent evil and must be confronted and defeated. I believe that self-defense is a moral imperative, and that illegitimate force and illegal violence must be met with righteous indignation and superior violence. I will not rely on others for the security of myself, my family and my community. I proudly proclaim that I run with a like-minded pack. I do not amble through life with the mind-numbed herd. I will train with my chosen weapons, maintain them and carry them in a condition of readiness at all times. I will be mentally prepared and physically equipped to effectively respond to an attack or emergency. I will constantly test myself against realistic standards to discover my strengths and weaknesses. I will turn weakness into strength. I will seek to learn new skills and techniques, and then teach what I have learned to other members of the pack. Be it with firearm or blade, empty hand or blunt object, I will hit my enemies hard, fast and true. I will live a quiet and unobtrusive life, but I will develop and retain the capacity for swift and decisive violence. I recognize that I am the modern equivalent of the traditional Minuteman, and that I may be called to service at any time against heavily armed enemies. I will respond effectively. I accept that I am a pariah among some of my countrymen, and a quaint anachronism to others. I will not hold their ignorance against them. I will win, or die trying. I swear this creed before God, my family and my fellow citizens.

  35. Once had an uncle who did that very thing. Had to call a wrecker. They poured axle lube around his neck and ran an airhose to the nipple and blew him out. He hasn't been right since.   So Todd, you must of found one of the few mortars that OSHA hasn't welded that wire screen across yet. Don't ya hate when that happens?

  36. Absolutely worth it, unless you're actually gonna use it on your arm. Use KAK tube or similar to get longer LOP and a more vertical grip like Magpul K2 or MOE K2 grip, really improves ergonomics for a shorter LOP, much like on an AK. There's a new model now too: https://www.sigsauer.com/SigStore/sbx-pistol-stabilizing-brace-686.aspx - OS

  37.   I still like Hunt For Red October even though Baldwin stars in it, i'm not going to let the fact that he's an idiot off stage ruin a good movie for me. after all his ranting and raving about moving to Canada if Bush got re-elected, at the end of the day it made no difference whatsoever, Bush got re-elected and he didn't move to Canada. All it accomplished was to make alot of people laugh at him.

  43.   I went to Jackson in 2000 despite having an MOS closed to women.  Unless you're in a OSUT MOS, you have a decent chance of going to Fort Jackson. They run basic for about 50% of all new recruits.    We even had a few guys (not infantry) in my basic platoon who were diverted to Jackson, since Benning had too many privates sitting around waiting for a cycle to begin.

  44. I’ve recently learned of the Huey P. Newton Gun Club demonstrations in Dallas, TX, where a sizable group of black gun owners are protesting police brutality while they open carry. More information here (Reason.com) and here (BearingArms.com).   I’ll be perfectly honest here: I’m downright excited about this. While I don’t share their seemingly leftist views, I support their right to open carry in a peaceful demonstration. I don’t need to agree with someone’s politics to recognize their 1st and 2nd amendment rights and support their exercise of these rights. And I’m hopeful that this gun club goes viral and spreads across the country, inspiring other black folks to educate themselves and pursue legal and responsible gun ownership.   I couldn’t find a thread discussing this particular topic, so I thought I’d start one. What do you all think? Would you support a peaceful open carry demonstration started —or inspired— by the Huey P. Newton Gun Club protesting police brutality in your town/city?
