My first wife died of cancer when she was 38 years old. She had melanoma which eventually metastasized to her lungs, liver, then her brain. We fought it as hard and as long as we were able. We saw doctors in Santa Monica and tried new chemo protocols but in the end, we all knew she was terminal. I found out when we got the results of the MRI of her brain, but I never chose to tell her exactly how long the doctors had given her to live. My fear was if she heard how short her time was thought to be, she might give up and quit believing, quit fighting. I simply didn't want her to stop fighting. I needed her to live, our 10 year old daughter needed her to live, as did all of her family. It was not easy. In the end she was unable to do anything for herself and she relied upon me for the simplest and most personal things. I loved her greatly and would have done anything possible to extend her life just a few more hours, or to make her the slightest bit more comfortable. Was I selfish? Perhaps. I know it's hard to believe, but through twenty one years together both dating, and in marriage, my wife and I were never closer as a couple than in her final months and days, battling her disease together. Watching the strength and grace with which she lived her life was and has been an inspiration to me to this day. While it was tough seeing her slowly losing her ability to fight, the closeness we shared during those days will never be forgotten. I do not regret a single moment, or a single decision, and I rest easy knowing my wife died after fighting the good fight, and running the good race. My own personal experience tells me this young lady may have chosen the day and the hour of her death, but in so doing she may have missed out some very special moments with her family, moments they may someday wish they had to remember. Sometimes the simplest joys of life truly come from being in the midst of the storm with those we love the most. May God rest her soul.6 points

Big wow here too! Even though it's about half again more than I've paid for any knife previously, I'd be pleased to carry it, but I've pretty well got delicate (Buck Stockman) to brutal (Cold Steel XL Voyager) covered with EDC. So this will just be a fine niche collectible for me I think. It's so nice to have at least one high end blade, and one that signals the change in TN's knife law and also has a custom meaningful logo are big icings on the cake. Really a stellar classy shiv! I add my sincere thanks for your efforts in this, Mr. Cutting. I mean, Willis. ;) - OS3 points

As to CCP I'm all for it if it is essentially SSP and ESP for short guns. They mentioned single actions were legal so that means a Para Ord P12 or a Glock 19 would be OK. I have no problem with that. Like I said, it might be good to see more compact pistols at IDPA matches since most folks are going to shoot the biggest easiest to shoot gun they can to be competitive. As such you see all the G34s in SSP and full size 9mm 1911s in ESP. I doubt 2% of the people shooting SSP with a 34 or ESP with a full size 1911 REALLY carry that in everyday life. What do most carry? A G19 or MP compact or XD compact or something similar. This would create a division for folks who want to be competitive with their real carry gun and not have to shoot it against a G34 or a 5" 9mm 1911. Now, having said that, I actually DO carry a full size pistol concealed on my person( G17 or a G34) in everyday life. But most people do not. And I'd even be OK with allowing some minor mods. A little stippling on the grip of your otherwise box stock G19 should not force you shoot against $3000 STI 9mm 1911s. As it stands now, stipple your glock and you get sentenced to Enhanced Service Pistol to shoot against 40 oz single action 1911s in 9mm........ But that is a different subject..... How IDPA can screw this all up is to make G19 and SW MP compacts legal in same category as people would be shooting their back up guns like the Khar PM9 or their SW Shield or SW J frame. The only way to make a shield competitive with a G19 is to make the round count low enough to negate the capacity advantage of the G19. And that would just make this a ridiculous exercise in "fairness" not anything even remotely realistic. NO ONE downloads their G19 to 5 rounds.......Keep the BUG category and limit the round counts to make J frames and Shields and G26s "more equal" but don't allow G19s in ...that would just be ridiculous. So keep the BUG as a separate thing and use CCP as a means of getting people to shoot the guns they are REALLY carrying (IF they actually carry guns in real life but that is a pet peeve for another time....)3 points

Ruger adds new stuff more than any other manufacturer I know. Pretty amazing diversity really, especially when you figure in all the different calibers within each product line too. - OS2 points

I think Carol got caught on purpose but not because they saw Beth being taken in. I think Darrell and Carol met up with the black guy that made the escape and he told them what was going on and figured out Beth was there. They may have been watching it after following the car they took off after that night thinking Beth was there anyway.2 points

ABSOLUTELY eat what you store. ROTATE! ROTATE! ROTATE! The local Food Lion went out of business recently. 50% or more off everything. Filled a buggy with canned stuffs. Local Fred's ran Chef Boyardee Ravioli for 40¢ a can too. Keep several flats of everything. Use a sharpie to put the purchase date on the top of the can as well as the expiration date. The dang expiration date can be a pain to read on some brands. Take the time to clearly mark it and it'll motivate you to keep everything rotated.2 points

I would like to have a law passed that would make CCW permit holders exempt from background checks (NICS) since the permit already verifies that we are able to own a firearm. Since the NICS is only supposed to be a verification of legality to own and no other purpose, then a CCW permit makes it obsolete. Thoughts?2 points

Exactly. I'm sure they can hire a bunch of people to make shipping and customer service more responsive, but then they will have to raise their prices. I like the way they are now. I encourage folks who are impatient not to order from PSA. At least that will give me more opportunity to get in on the deals. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Hunter's Den carries Elites... that's why I went up there. Liked the Matthews better. If you want to get one on the cheap, start watching craigslist. Archery season is coming to an end soon. I expect there will be quite a few bows available before long.1 point

I have a 23 and 19, both Gen 4. They are the same gun except for the hole in the end. I bought a 30s last week, and already had a 36. I like the 45's, but will always hang onto the 23 and 19.1 point

Here's the thing... Since there's no drop in the stock like a regular rifle, the center of the optic (height) winds up 2.5 inches above the bore. So, unlike a standard rifle, you don't just mount the scope as low as you can get it. The Burris PEPR is the right height. With the iron sights, to adjust elevation with the height of the front sight post, and windage on the rear sight.1 point

That's how the rotation goes, what ever weapon I take to the range and/or carry that week becomes my bedside gun. So calibers vary but every one of them always has a full mag, and have been recently tuned in.1 point

I let my last AK (I know, I know) get away from me over 10 years ago, and never regretted the decision to go all AR pattern, all the time. A few weeks ago, I noticed a deal at Palmetto State Armory offering a VZ2008 with 5 mags, mag pouch, bayonet/sheath, sling and cleaning kit for $399.00. How could I go wrong? Well, according to any number of interweb commandos, I could go very wrong indeed. The list was long - glacial service from PSA, canted front sight bases, mutant FCGs that would be unreliable, corroded barrels, handguard temps approaching that of the surface of the sun, a couple of well-documented "gremlins" resulting in dead triggers, folding stocks that required sandblasting and the hammer of Thor to release, virulent strains of ebola virus impregnated in the beaver barf stock...OK, just kidding about that last one, but you get the idea. The phrase "the monkeys at Century Arms" was repeated often. Well, I am happy to report a very, very, satisfying buying experience. First, PSA took exactly 4 business days to ship my rifle. When I opened the box at my FFL's place, I found a rifle in immaculate condition. 3 of the 5 mags were new and unused, 2 were only slightly used. Bayonet/sheath was new, sling was all leather and entirely serviceable with some scuffs. The mag pouch was as nice a piece of leather as has ever come out of an Eastern bloc nation. Thick, supple leather you could sew a strap on and sell to some hipster for serious ammo money. The folding stock was stiff, but a shot of Breakfree and some ooomph had it working in a couple of minutes. I took it home quite pleased with myself. But how would it shoot? After a bit of a shocker finding reasonably priced 7.62 x 39 (have I made a mistake?), I cleaned and lubed the VZ and headed for the rifle club. I put up an enormous "Vote For XXXX" sign at 50 yards, in case I had one of the dreaded canted front sight rifles. With any of my ARs, I could hit this sign from NE Alabama on a clear day. I then plopped myslef down behind my range bag and fired 5 shots. The trigger was kinda long, kinda heavy, but smooth. It allowed good shooting if I did my part. Downrange, I discovered a tidy group about 2.5" with 3 round sinto almost exactly 1 inch! In my experience, few rifles have iron sights this well regulated from the factory. I was thrilled. Remember, this is a $399.00 rifle shooting Tula. a rifle that, by all accounts, should have spontaneously combusted somewhere between the factory and my FFL. Over 2 nights of enthusiastic shooting, I have put 440 rounds of Tula through my new acquisition. Function has been 100% with no cleaning or lubrication. The sights are rough for my 50+ year-old eyes and the trigger is nothing to write home about, BUT they are perfectly functional and good enough to allow some pretty precise shooting. Rapid mag dumps are nothing, though the handguards do get pretty warm. I bought this VZ because: A. It was cheap B. The Hildabeast will not want me to have it a couple years from now. 3. I can throw it in my trunk and not bury my head in my hands and weep openly if it were stolen - as I would if it were my Noveske, my DD, my BCM, my Colt, or my M&Ps. I'm keeping it because its a damn good firearm, and it will never be worth less than what I paid for it. Get one while the gettin's good.1 point

My best advice is to visit a local archery shop and have them help you pick and set up your new bow. If not, you may end up with a mis-sized bow that will only result in frustration. There are lots of good used bows out there. Some are nervous about buying used, but for the most part, your pretty safe buying used/consignment from a local shop.1 point
