Not going to single out a particular person or event here in this posting. But I am continually amazed at the TGO membership. The outpouring of sympathy, prayers and offers of aid in times of sorrow and need is sometimes beyond my abilities to fathom. In the times of "me" and all the attempts to secularize the world and all its people; I can come here and see and be reminded that we are not alone. I have seen evidence here of the values that the world at large seems lacking in. I have seen people offer time and money to others repeatedly, with no expectation of recompense. Just being able to help those who need some type of assistance. Any request is almost instantly responded to and generally fulfilled; be it life threatening circumstances, a request for aid in a project, or for prayers and support in a time of crisis. We have each other in all times and circumstances. This truly is a welcoming and caring community of brothers and sisters. When I first became involved here...I really could have used some of the support I so freely given here. But I was reluctant to involve strangers in my troubles...so I just went along without commenting. My mistake and loss. Some of the friends I've since made here would have been of great comfort then. Just having a voice not so closely involved would have been great. But I didn't. But I'm here, I came thru it all. lol I guess that's evident. Thru the prayers and support of my wife and my mother and family, co-workers, doctors and care givers, and of course, the Power of Our Lord; I survived. I really didn't expect to do so. I am still amazed at it. I still wonder why. Daily. Maybe to give my pitiful tale in offering to give someone else hope. Maybe I'll help a person and influence their life a good and constructive way. In any event, the additional support I could have gotten here would have been more than welcome. I guess what I'm trying to say is a great big "Thank You" to all here for the generosity of spirit that I see exhibited on an almost daily basis is nothing short of amazing. God Bless to all, and a Merry Christmas!20 points

Hello All, Figured since I have never posted here, but read for a couple of years now I would share my first build which happens to also be my first personal AR. It all started out around fathers day with a sale on a blemished FDE Hybrid TN Arms Company lower that I picked up for about the price of the FFL transfer. IT was originally planned as a bare bones, cheap as I could get AR build; with the plan being to buy a PSA rifle kit or something of that nature and building a rifle for $500-$600 and being done with it. Being right before fathers day I started looking at some of the online deals, which led me into picking up a 416 Stainless steel 1-8 twist 18" Barrel for a steal. This is considered a heavy weight barrel and is 18 inches so the rest of the rifle was built around that with a lean to hopefully shooting some three gun matches at some point with it. I also like to reach out and touch some stuff with this rifle if I can ever set back enough for a decent scope. Here are the parts currently. Lower Parts Lower Reciever - TN Arms Co, Hybrid lower Lower Parts Kit and Stock - PSA Armory Magpul MOE Upper Parts Upper Receiver- Aero Precision FDE Adjustable Gas Block Barrel Nut Rifle length gas tube Charging Handle - BCM Gunfighter MOD 4 Bolt and Bolt Carrier Group- Aim Surplus Barrel-18' medium contour Free Float 15" Troy Alpha Battlerail Hand machined 3 chamber brake Excuse the phone pictures. I eventually would like to put a harris bipod on it, Vortex PST 1-4, and need to grab a sling and case for it still. Ive put about 700 rounds through it over two range sessions and it amazes me how flat and smooth is it. The barrel, Brake, and adjustable gas block really take away any recoil out of my hand loaded rounds and its so fast to shoot. eventually I would also like to switch out the cheap lower parts kit trigger for a proper drop in, Im thinking CMC 3.5lb flat trigger or a giessele something or another.5 points

I'm amazed it hasn't been reported before. It's stupidly easy to gut something innocuous and put a functional firearm in it. That said you won't ever find one in my house. My guns look like guns for a reason.3 points

The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military strike conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy against the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on the morning of December 7, 1941. God bless the ones we have lost.3 points

So maybe it's just the Liberterian in me showing through but am I the only one who sees the hypocrisy in gun owners demanding business owners cave to our demands, yet we are the same group that gets our panties in a bunch when the anti-gun owners make business owners cave to theirs? The Second Amendment guarantees that the government will not infringe on our right to go armed the same way that the First Amendment guarantees that the government will not infringe on our right to free speech. Neither of those amendments guarantee that a private person or business entity cannot ask us to exercise our Rights anywhere but their private property. My rights end where someone else's begin. Sure, we all have the ability to spend our money with the businesses that we choose. I tend to spend my money with those that provide goods and services at a reasonable cost while providing good service and operating ethically and responsibly. If they support things that are important to me, such as the Second Amendment, I am even more inclined to do business with them... but if they don't, I will evaluate my options and may still do business with them for a variety of reasons. When I see a gun buster sign, I have a choice to make and I weigh that choice against various criteria and options. One of those options is to contact the management or owner and let them know that I would prefer that they not ask me to choose between my ability to defend myself and my family, and buying from them. But I won't leave a silly, passive-aggressive business card or decal telling them that no guns equals no money. I prefer dialogue over drive-by. But at the end of the day they still have the right to ask me to disarm, just as I have the right to shop elsewhere, and I respect that. I see both sides of the discussion and both are equally protected. I'm just not a fan of bullying business owners any more than I want to be bullied by Moms Demand Action or whatever the hell they're called. Just my $0.02 worth of pre-church rambling.3 points

Mentally unstable, If you own a firearm, you have to be crazy, if you want to own a firearm, you have to be crazy. Sounds strange, well just wait. Take a drug for depression, get your firearm taken. It wont be long before you medical records can be cross referenced, can you say OBAMA CARE!!! The left will come up with a way to take all firearms.2 points

For me, the nose to charging handle works best. It feels the most natural for body position since I've been doing it for so long. With my position settled, I can focus on the rest of the fundamentals. So, since this scope is so big I'll probably need to get the FSP removed on my upper to give it the breathing room I want, which means I might as well get a free float with a low profile gas block installed....and this is how gun projects get out of control, fast.2 points

I have seen the USS North Carolina on display in Wilmington NC. It was the first Battleship to enter Pearl Harbor after the attack, brand spankin' new. The harbor was a wreck, full of oil and sunken ships. Thousands of men were working to get the harbor cleaned up. They all stopped to cheer the North Carolina. She was a fast ship, going in harms way. During the Guadalcanal Campaign she fell victim to the deadliest spread of Torpedoes every fired from a submarine. Six torpedoes were fired from the IJN submarine I-19. Three hit the USS Wasp and sunk her. The three that missed traveled over two miles where they broke the USS O'Brian in half and put a 20 foot round hole in the USS North Carolina. The "Showboat" never broke speed and shook off the hit like a champ.2 points

Me and a couple buddies hit up a barrel proof tasting the other night. Tried small amounts of each neat, then with some water. Blinded them to each other so we could be as objective as possible. George T Stagg - 128.2 Elijah Craig Barrel Proof - 134.8 ECBP - 132.4 GTS Jr. - 132.2 Four Roses Single Barrel Barrel Strength - 110 E.H. Taylor Barrel Proof - 135.4 Our results (favorite to least favorite): GTS, FR1B, ECBP 134, EHTBP, ECBP 132, GTS Jr. Finished the evening off with small pours of EC23. Didn't include that in the samples above, but it would have placed 5th.2 points

Got a trophy today! Biggest buck so far for me. We have worked really hard on our property, taking off tons of does and letting nice, but younger, bucks walk to help raise our age structure. This bruiser was 4.5 maybe 5.5 years old. The processor was shocked how big his body was, hard to tell from the pics, but he has had quite good nutrition since we took the property over. Anyways, I am super excited and getting him mounted! Made a perfect double lung shot at ~100 yards. He is a 10pt. I thought he would hit 200lbs, but he weighed in at 180. I had been out 4 days, and only seen a coyote, a bunch of squirrels and chipmunks and one fat little woodchuck. I had finally decided to come out of my stand about 5 minutes before I couldn't see and there they came, by the sound of them there had to be at least 5 or six of them. I kneeled down to get one in the scope hoping it could gather more light but nope, only managed to see a tail before I lost all the light. Still, snuck away with a smile since just earlier I didn't think mother nature would share her bounty with me. Went back out again today, perfect temp, a bit breezy but not bad. I usually stay in my stand till noon before I break for a bite, today I had decided I was going down at 11, but just as I was getting ready I glimpsed a doe going down the hill into an area I could not see into. I decided to use a bleat to see if she would reappeared, took about 5 or 10 minutes till two reappeared. I put the scope on the closest one but she had her vitals behind a tree so I used the extra time to slow my breathing and waited for her to present me a shot. Seemed like forever but she finally gave me a quartering shot. I dropped her with what turned out to be a lung shot, cocked for a followup (reflex, never used one) and seen the second had gone 10 yards and stopped with the opposite quartering shot so I dropped her too with a heart shot. Both were DRT though the second flinched a couple times. I guess mother nature is generous after all. [emoji7]2 points

Found this at a local plumbing supply warehouse and really liked the shape of the blade. Was roughly $60 so I brought it home. Blade is pretty thick too.1 point

ID is 1.35". I knew the DI projector muzzle device would not fit under the rail but doing the math in my head I thought the threads would clear the rail. I got it for half price as part of their sale so no big deal. Ordered a KAK slim flash can and a Kaw Valley linear comp in FDE - both of them are small enough to fit (per listed specs anyways).1 point

BTW, mine is legal according to the ATF/Feds. It was not made under the Freedom Firearms Act of Tennessee. Yes I made it but I did not make a single part before I submitted and got approved 40 days later. BTW, I have a lot more information about the silencer that I will be posting in that thread shortly.1 point

Mechanical devices can fail. If you follow the rules of gun safety it is nearly impossible to shoot someone. Switching off a safety on a loaded rifle while it is pointed at your son is reckless. Glock has been plagued with accusations that the gun went off without pulling the trigger for years. Did they recall them? No, they offered “upgradesâ€. I’ve seen many times those new to firearms posting that there is no such thing as a “accidental discharge†only “negligent discharges†and that a gun can’t discharge without pulling the trigger; that is what they have been told, and it is wrong. I sent my 700 in and they replaced the trigger and sent it back. Did it need it? Probably not, but it didn’t cost me anything so I had it done. My rifle isn’t loaded unless it’s pointed down range, and the trigger is excellent; so I didn’t want to pay $150 for a trigger I don’t need. Remington is trying to do what’s right. They are a great American Firearms Company that makes an excellent product. I wish them continued success.1 point

As some of you know from my postings, I am currently in Florida caring for my father. He is a WWII vet and will be 89 on New Years. I am trying to piece together his service record while I can. His short term memory is gone but still sharp on the old days. He doesn't speak much on his service. What he has told me is, that he was in some of the first groups into the concentration camps at wars end. If anyone is interested I will post whatever else he can relate. He has a Bronze Star in his "Army Stuff" As he calls it. Not sure what exactly it's for yet. He says he was in the wrong place at the right time."........1 point

The CIA had an opening for an assassin. After all the background checks, interviews and testing were done, there were three finalists: two men and a woman. For the final test, the CIA agents took one of the men to a large metal door and handed him a gun. "We must know that you will follow your instructions no matter what the circumstances. Inside the room you will find your wife sitting in a chair. Kill her." The man said, "You can't be serious. I could never shoot my wife". The agent said, "Then you are not the right man for this job. Take your wife and go home". The second man was given the same instructions. He took the gun and went into the room. All was quiet for about five minutes. The man came out with tears in his eyes, "I tried, but I can't kill my wifeâ€. The agent said, "You don't have what it takes, so take your wife and go home." Finally, it was the woman's turn. She was given the same instructions to kill her husband. She took the gun and went into the room. Shots were heard one after another. They heard screaming, crashing, and banging on the walls. After a few minutes, all was quiet. The door opened slowly and there stood the woman, wiping sweat from her brow as she leaned back against the wall. "The gun was loaded with blanks," she said between breaths. "I had to kill him with the chair!!!"1 point

Hmmm, 25 acres will probably not be very affordable in Fayette County. I would look in Tipton, Lauderdale, Haywood, or Hardeman Counties. Lauderdale and Hardeman will be pushing the 1 hour requirement, but some of Tipton and SW Haywood should be doable. If you don't venture too far west past the Wolfchase area, Memphis won't be much of an issue for a Middle-TNer. As stated above, MSSA is a fine shooting complex and is worth the initiation fee (unless you have 25 acres).1 point
