That is what I have lost so far and plan on being in the 150 range by my birthday in June. Been eating ~700 calories a day and nearly zero carbs as well as limiting fats substantially. I can't exercise so it is diet only for me and seems to be working. I have also cut out all caffeine and any sort of processed foods. I cook fresh food for every meal. After years of 230+ cholesterol and adding a few pounds a month it was time.5 points

I asked my wife about this before posting. She is a nurse with a specialty in wellness. A 700 calorie a day diet is not good for your health. It's probably okay for a week or so, but after that, there are potential problems. You are burning muscle, not just fat and the body needs muscle to burn fat. Over time, your metabolism can slow down drastically because it thinks you are in a survival mode. When your metabolism slows down, you burn less calories than a normal person and the slow down can be permanent AND cause health issues. Look at what has happened to some of the contestants in the biggest loser. You can do damage to your organs because they aren't getting enough nutrients. You're putting yourself into ketosis, which is basically poisoning the body. That's what happens to diabetics when their insulin is out of control. Fasting for a few days in a row is okay, but it's not a healthy way to lose weight over the long term. As far as exercise is concerned, if your doctor tells you that you can't exercise, you need to find another doctor. If you have a medical problem, hospitals have rehab centers that can teach you what you can and cannot do. Basically, if you can walk, you can exercise. If you can walk up stairs, you can exercise. If you can lift a gallon of milk, you can exercise. Yesterday, I worked out on the stairclimber at the rec center. I climbed the height of the Empire State Building. I'm 67. If I can do it, you can do it. Sorry to be so blunt, but if I saw someone carrying a weapon in a dangerous holster, I'd be just as quick to point it out. It's in everyone's best interests. Good luck on losing weight.3 points

Saw this one the other day and had to laugh.... Kanye is a self-important prick. He and Kim are perfect for one another. God help that little girl.3 points

I am glad it is working for you, but I will say that 700 calories a day isn't enough for anyone. I understand not being able to exercise, but losing that much weight that fast isn't healthy either. I would personally recommend moderating a little more. The weight will still come off, just not quite as fast. Don't create other issues by starving yourself. You are most likely losing muscle mass and not just fat. Just my opinion.3 points

Actually . we are not starving.. we eating healthy and for non working people consuming under 1000 calories is fine. We get plenty of nutrients. actually feel better now that I did in a long time by not eating all the other stuff.. We walk every day as far as we can.Its working for us. No one is in Ketosis here.. no worries:)2 points

Does that Hipoint include the ammo, or was that just for the photo? I'm not going to be one of those guys that nitpicks you over everything. I don't care if it doesn't have the lock or cleaning brush because that ammo adds real value. Do you still have the manual?2 points

I have thought a lot about this as well, I sometimes have to go into bad areas. As much as I have thought as to what I would do I still do not know. I do keep my head on a swivel, drive around the building once to look for trouble and act on what I see. I have called the customer when I see what I think does not look right and let them know what is going on. It is a scary world, punks or thugs (what you call them) are my fear, some being so young and the group so large there is no way to tell what might happen. My advice, look close, drive around and look for "trouble". I wont get out of the car if I see more than 2 or 3 in a group. Leave the area as fast as you can, call me a scared y cat, I dont care, I want to wake up on this side of the grass.2 points

This would be nice if it stands. In a ruling issued today, a Federal judge has declared that the longstanding ban on gun dealers selling handguns to residents in different states is not only unconstitutional under the Second Amendment, but also violates other fair trade provisions of the United States Constitution. http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2015/02/foghorn/breaking-federal-judge-declares-interstate-handgun-transfer-ban-unconstitutional/1 point

Larry Nelson's conversion is Camp Perry quality. He now has 3 chamber grades, plinking, match and bullseye, but I think most sent out are bullseye (tightest) unless otherwise specified. The Kimber conversion (I have friends who have them) is a decent range gun. Nelson's conversion is bullseye competition capable. Am I, doubt it, but have hung around those sorts of guys just to see what it takes. I have too many other hobbies and probably some inherent shortcomings. I figured with 485.00 to the door, why not get the best? I can't wait to go shooting one of these days with my TGO'r friend who has a Clark Custom S&W 41 or my other buddy who has a Sig Target Elite SAO 220 in .22lr. The good thing about Larry's conversion is that he is a shooter and has a reputation in the bullseye community with this conversion. The above comment highlights Larry's commitment to customer service. I actually expect some hiccups because I refuse to shoot anything but standard velocity ammo. But I like to tinker and figure I will have a great shooting conversion when I am finished. If I had wanted minute-of-beer-can accuracy I would have just got another Advantage Arms conversion for a Glock. Had several of those and never was impressed.1 point

Long story short......... Kimber and others use Marvel's original design of which he no longer has rights to and it is mass produced. Bob Marvel was screwed out of his own design many years ago. He and Nelson got together, talked about the conversion, redesigned it together and are now producing an updated version of the original on machinery that cost big bucks. New version is much more accurate and much better built.1 point

You all are a great candidate for the paleo diet. But even then most are eating 1200 calories or so a day, some more.1 point

Yeah, high cholesterol intake does not necessarily equal high cholesterol blood levels, and even those levels seem to be more concerning as regards to LDL and triglycerides rather than total volume. And even saturated fat is looking to be much less of a culprit than always assumed, and maybe no culprit at all. And carbs are increasingly being admitted as the biggest determent. Science and even gummit recommendation is coming around on all that finally. The long standing recommended "food pyramid" is increasing proving to be the best way to shorten your life. :) Basic deal with carbs is that our bodies aren't really optimized to use them, especially as major source of fuel. Remember, homo sapiens has been around about 200K years, and our bodies haven't significantly changed -- until less than 10K years ago with advent of agriculture, carbs were small % of the diet, and then only seasonal as gathering allowed. Indeed, studies into folks with severe grain allergies has led to the idea that the normal body sees carbs as an invasion to a certain extent, and produces histamines in various levels in reaction. Which is why many folks with allergies who low carb find that their overall allergy responses improve -- by taking away the "background radiation" histamine level, the overall histamine level is less when other allergic agents are encountered, often low enough to trigger no real response at all. I found this out right away with my ragweed response from Labor Day to first frost for example. As far as weight retention, carbs are notorious, as any excess not directly needed for conversion to glucose for energy is immediately stored as fat, while in the absence of excess carbs, excess fats and protein are largely excreted. And the claim that high protein intake damages the kidneys has been proven to be a myth too. The body uses intake in the order of: alcohol, carbohydrates, fat, and protein. Good thing about the alcohol, or you'd be drunk for days instead of hours. You can see the alcohol being used first as really as much defense mechanism as anything else, and to a certain extent at least, the preference for carbs first in the absence of alcohol, as if fat and protein were used first and if that intake were sufficient for energy level, every gram of carb consumed would store as body fat. - OS1 point

No, big diff between ketosis and ketoacidosis. The latter is the diabetic condition due to insufficient insulin, and primarily involves type 1 diabetes, but seldom due to the insulin resistant/insufficiency for body mass state of type 2. I've done strict low carbing in the past, indeed lost 30 lbs back when about as quick as it went on when I first quit smoking, and didn't even watch calories. But can assure you that not all calories are equal. I can maintain weight on 2500 or more per day low carb or gain on 2000 or less high carb. I've tended to stay on the low carb side for many years, but haven't been a carb Nazi about it. However, I've started watching them more strictly again, as need to drop 20 or so pounds once again as I've crept up. All that said, I couldn't lose a pound per day if I consumed nothing but lettuce and water. :) But can easily lose a pound or a bit more per week for my body size by consuming around 2000 calories per day or even more, if I keep carbs to under 50 per day. And of course what carbs you do consume should have some additional benefits .. there's a big diff between what you get from say, various beans, and the relatively "empty" carbs of potatoes, pasta, and bread. And there are various other benefits of low carb diet also, but that's another story. My problem is that I like pretty much everything that humans eat! - OS1 point

I'm glad you started this thread, SW. My situation is similar, especially right now. I am 'only' 43 and am 5' 11" and weigh 260. Yes, I am overweight but I am also a 'big guy'. I also have recurring problems with cardiomyopathy (weak heart function) and other chronic health issues. Also, I am currently undergoing chemotherapy for colon cancer and the chemo causes some neuropathy, especially cold neuropathy. In fact, sometimes my hands gets so numb and/or achy or even lock up to the point that I wonder how effectively I'd be able to use a handgun if the need arose, especially one with any, real recoil. Also, as part of the whole cancer ordeal, I had to have part of my colon removed and currently have a (hopefully reversible) colostomy. In other words, my guts are currently hacked up and I have a large (now healed) surgical scar. To me, it would not be too great a stretch to think that one good, solid punch in the gut - which wouldn't necessarily be all that serious a threat to some folks - could tear things loose in there. That would certainly constitute a risk of death or serious, bodily injury for me. Further, the effects of chemo as well as cardiomyopathy mean that I'm not going to be running all that fast or far. I would certainly attempt to extract myself from a situation to the best of my ability but I am not willing to risk dying just because some asshat thinks he has something to prove.1 point

Diabetic and was on insulin. Weight gain went through the roof. New Dr, new meds. No insulin. I am down 63 pounds since September 23rd. Plan in losing another 50 to reach my basketball playing weight 30years ago, Lol. I agree with Oma Sourkraut, processed foods are horrible for your system.1 point

We are eating 5-6 times a day and varying what we eat. I seriously doubt we are in ketosis. My doctor is a close personal friend and we talk almost every day about this and other things. Initially we were going too fast so he told us to eat a bit more and we did but we are still loosing the added weight we have put on over the years. Yes I could exercise but at what cost? A 20 minute walk really messes me up for the day. A couple hours at the range puts me in bed for days. Not like I get much time out of bed anyways but I would prefer to get as much time out of bed as I can. I am very intimate with what my body can and cannot handle and I know the path I am on right now is uncomfortable but not dangerous.1 point

Raildog nailed it! Welding aluminum is a real BEOTCH by itself. Welding an AR receiver is a true Mother *&(*&((* ;o) ... You can stick a lighter to the side of an AR reciever for 5 minutes it seems and that puppy will pull to the side a few thousandths ... it's not hard at all to jack one up in a heartbeat. It could be repaired by those more skillful than me (I am not a welder by any stretch) but due to the aluminum and heat disbursment it would be a tidius job .. family heirloom maybe but short of a $25K registered receiver M16 I wouldn't worry about that level of correction. I do have a buddy who helps me who can weld on water ... he can fix it but you're definitely then looking at a refinish, cleanup, etc. Back when John Norell (infamous C2 from the 70s/80s) did a lot of demil jobs (old M16 receivers cut in half), he used all kind of jigs to hold things together .. aluminum shrinks too so he had to compensate for heat and shrinkange .. a true master when you look at his work...but none of that really applies here as you're hole isn't in a location I'd be that concern with. If it were me, I'd just mill the area a bit to clean it up and make it looks as nice as it could - as if it were meant to be ... there's nothing underneath that needs the hole filled up other than your pride ;o) .. the trigger will pivot on its horizontal pin .. so short of the aesthetic attributes, it won't hurt anything to remain. If you're going to do this in the future, you can get pretty decent results using a mill bit in a drill press WITH a milling vise.... the kind with the X-Y axis handles... you can get an adeuate one on ebay for $50-$60...drilling lifting, moving over, drilling .. it's going to look choppy and that's a very nice receiver blank you have there. But looks is all you hurt... as other have suggested you could epoxy something, cut a small piece of aluminum and put it inside to cover, options are endless... I'll be happy to help you clean it up a bit unless you want to remain loyal to the post and use only common tools someone would have lying around. I can cheat a bit with the equipment I have lying around ;o) Best of luck though.. I'll be around next week if you wanted to drive down and let me take a closer look...happy to do so... but seriously, if you had to go and blow a hole somewhere, you nailed the best sacrificial spot ;o)1 point

Due to amount of people that have messaged saying they would like to attend, but cannot due to the short notice we are changing the date for the class. To those that have signed up we will have something in place for signing up initially. This may be for the best as we are working in combination with another to offer a weekend of training. Thank you to those that signed up and to those that messaged me with questions and concerns!1 point

It's amazing how much better "eating clean" (all natural foods) will make you feel. Plus now you don't have to worry about those idiots at he Burger King anymore! Personally I try to eat clean, eat as much as I want and lead an active lifestyle. It works for me, if I were eating junk in the quantities that I eat clean food I'd be fat as mud and feel like crap. It costs more but I consider it an investment in my health, less time I'll have to spend in a doctors office, and less down time due to health issues. BTW deer meat is a huge part of my diet.1 point

OhShoot and Dave have it right. The issue of showing a gun is complicated. If you are in a situation where pulling th eague stops the threat (or reduces it), shooting is probably going too be too far. However, like very thing else, it depends on exact circumstances.1 point
-
The short answer is no, there is no definition to point you to other than "reasonable." It depends on the specific circumstances and (hopefully none of us have to get to this point) what the jury BELIEVES was "reasonable" under those circumstances. There are no hard and fast rules. In fact, what someone believes is reasonable right this minute could easily change from time to time. I think with news reports of groups of kids attacking people randomly, more people would find self-defense more reasonable in that situation today than they did just a year or two ago. It is a burden that gun owners must deal with.1 point

One of the things I like about their CS is that when you buy a knife with either the "arrow" clip or the standard one, if you email or call and ask, they will send you a deep carry clip for free. They have sent me three or four now, I believe. And when I bought an Aphid with an uncentered blade, I sent it to them and had it back in a couple of weeks with the blade perfectly centered.1 point

Near as I can tell, even though I do have various physical issues, I'm in the top 25% or better health/shape wise for my age group (knock on wood). Nonetheless, I am 66.5 and simply nowhere near as lithe or strong as I was even ten years ago, let alone of course back when. Which is simply to say, there's no doubt in my mind that I'll have a reasonable fear of serious injury or death if I have to face a beating -- and can assure you I don't intend to take one. Let the chips fall where they may afterwards. - OS1 point
