Ummm, I believe the preferred term these days is "living historian" as opposed to "reenactor". That being said, if you live in Nashville, you are only about 45-60 minutes away from one of the best stocked Civil War sutlers in the south-- http://www.blockaderunner.com/ They are located right off of I-24E between Bellbuckle and Wartrace, and are very well stocked on just about everything you could imagine for Civil War Buffs... both Union and Confederate gear, uniforms, accessories, relics etc. Well worth the drive for anyone interested in this stuff. What's more, they are very 2A friendly and welcome legal licensed carry-- with a "FIREARMS PERMITTED" gun-in-green-circle (the opposite of a gunbuster sign) sign right by the front door! And no, I do NOT work for them, but it's one of my favorite places to spend a lazy Saturday. If you visit the store, you can get a new artillery shell jacket for around $120-- usually they have several sizes in stock, so that's about half the cost of a custom-make jacket. Not sure that you'll find a new one cheaper than that online, besides, better to keep your $$ in Tennessee instead of sending it to some Yankee up north...3 points

I once bought a gun collection from a lady who inherited them from her deceased brother. I went to her house and gave her the approximate retail value of each piece. I explained to her that selling items at retail involved a good deal of work. Turns out she just wanted them gone, and seemed happy for me to get them. She asked what I'd offer for them, I gave her a number well below what they were worth. She seemed pleased and accepted the offer, with full knowledge the guns were worth much more than I paid for them. In the end, she got rid of the guns without a hassle, and I got a screaming deal on some pieces I otherwise never would have owned. I say all that to say this: be honest and upfront with this lady. Explain to her the real value of what she has, and that you aren't in a position to pay retail for it. You just might get a deal as well.3 points

If I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times, the ONLY way to fix / prevent all of VA's issues, medical or otherwise, is just to shut the damn thing down, give vets a card to go where they choose, and not have to deal with these fine folks. Personally, I am in process of getting Part D to go along with A & B, plus Tricare. Then I plan to tell the VA to kiss my _ _ _ . The first two lines of this post are not likely to happen. National disgrace.2 points

Just watched the video. It must have taken great restraint on the rider's part to not react reflexively when the cop snatched his gun. I know for me, it wouldn't be a conscious decision to react, even if for a fraction of a second. It was a dick move. I saw no reason he couldn't have simply told the rider that he was going to disarm him. I think that would have gone further toward avoiding an "uncomfortable" situation. May have even kept him off the internet, who knows.2 points

So much fail and WTF in that story. As my Uncle Larry said, don't stick your dick in crazy. Prevents a lot of problems down the line.2 points

120 Mile trip round trip, $200, + 3x 1,400 Round buckets of Remington Golden Bullet 22 LR = My 2nd TGI built FEG AMD-65! The seller was seeking $550 for the rifle, one magazine, + a box of ammunition. I was able to negotiate his asking price considerably to my favor as I was willing to make the drive to him this evening to complete the transaction. It was an unexpected purchase, but I was hard pressed to pass on the opportunity given the price point!2 points

A properly cooked rare steak the way I like it at home is a Cast iron Skillet, about an inch of olive oil, bring the skillet heat to the range of smoke just barely beginning to rise off the skillet, add a Nice 2 inch + thick Ribeye to the skillet over medium high heat cook for 3 minutes turn 1 time and cook for 2 minutes and put it on a plate. I watched my Mother cook steaks like that for many years as she was professional cook in some very high class restaurants. She said the biggest secret to a good steak is only turning it once. Any more than that will make it tough. My Mother had 5 sons and no daughters and she taught every one of her sons to cook in case we married a woman that could boil water without burning it...............  :rofl:2 points

I stopped in to the Guns and Leather Glock Days event this weekend and walked out with a new G30SF. This was exciting because it was my first gun purchase since moving to TN from California! Felt awesome paying for the gun and walking out the door with it the same day and not having to wait a week and a half to take it home! I went with the G30SF because I have a G21SF, but it is just too big to carry every day. I like carrying my G19, but I really like having the .45 carry option. Also, the 30 fits the same IWB holster as the 21 and I can use the 21 mags as well, so there was a lot of cost savings in my choice. Can't wait to get my new baby out to the range today to break it in. On a side note, I can't say enough about Guns and Leather. Mark at the Hendersonville location is one of the nicest and coolest dudes you will meet.1 point

One thing, maybe semantics, but important to me. LEO's don't have any more rights than the any citizen, they have authority that comes with their position such as stopping people and disarming them within the context of the law. I concur that the reason he probably let the guy ride off then turned on the lights was to avoid having a potentially dangerous (which all stops are) encounter in an area with people in close proximity. I'm fine with that "on the ground" decision as much as I am the stop itself. What I'm questioning the reason the officer had to disarm the biker in the first place. If he truly did reasonably believed it was for the safety of the permit holder, the officer, or other individuals, why not do it as soon as you see it- or barring that to allow the person to move away from all the people in the store like he did- as soon as the stop was made? The 25 second gap and snatching it during a moment of distraction for the biker leads me to believe his safety concerns didn't exist to a reasonable belief, especially when you look at it in the additional commentary EssOne provided in post #94. No, he never asked the guy if he had a permit, he asked if the guy had his license, because the pretext given for the stop was about the plates on the bike. The discussion about if the guy had a permit never came from the officer, the biker volunteered that information after the officer took the gun. I think the officer went into the encounter with the mindset of disarming the guy while questioning him. His tactics to do so were, at best, questionable, but I don't think something happened between first noticing the weapon and taking it. Like I said above, I question his reasons for doing so, as I don't think he is able to articulate any safety concerns besides not wanting someone else in the encounter to have a gun, which isn't good enough for me to qualify as a reasonable belief for his protection. I would argue that we have the right to carry, and that the HCP is simply the process by which we are vetted on a cyclic basis as being in compliance with the requirements to exercise that right, much as voting is a right that you have to register to exercise and show ID at the polls each time you do so. To me, keep and bear are the rights with carrying under a permit system being the bear part of it. The responsibility of the state should be to have an as expedited as possible process to make sure those HCP checks are done, and done on a shall issue basis, with only people who have a legal disqualification being denied. The cost of it all is in line with regular taxes or fee based services, but should never be used as a revenue enhancement as I suspect the HCP's bring in for TN. But that's a separate issue like most .gov cash cows. I'd also be fine with the legislature enacting Constitutional Carry, but I know that isn't coming anytime soon.1 point

Gotcha, I used to hunt north central PA and NY was 20 minutes away, I know that not all of NY is boogered up. Great hunting up there! I'm about 20 minutes east of Knoxville. While not as secluded as I'd prefer, it is fantastic here.1 point

I haven't looked at the entire thread. Having said that, I want to remind everyone the we have law enforcement officers on this board for the same reason we are all here - to enjoy a hobby we all have in common. Several months ago there were a bunch of postings about law enforcement shootings, several of which I took part in. Someone posted a comment similar to mine here. It came out that several of our law enforcement members were feeling alienated and began leaving TGO. I just read where two LEO'S responded to a call and were shot. They got shot protecting American citizens. These men and women have a very tough job, where they make split second decisions under stress in a job that doesn't pay that well. I'm not sure I could make the right call in some of the split second decisions I've seen on news websites. The small percentage of controversial situations make the news while the very vast majority of police activity, which is positive, never gets mentioned.1 point

I just get ticked off when I go to a so called nice restaurant these days. I think that people eat out so much these days that they don't know what good cooking is and they settle for what's being served. I tell my wife she does herself an injustice by cooking so good. I can't take her out anywhere that really satisfies either of us. :pleased:1 point

Trump has cleared up his statements, once again, about Kelly and of course with no apology. Since the debate he's reminded me of Oclueless with all the name calling and innuendo. I'm frankly tried of his smartass remarks and want to hear something more substantial, like policy changes. If he gets in office and acts the way he is now, like a spoiled child, we will have another Obama dictating with executive orders and mob rule. I see him only as a thorn in the side of republicans and a gift to democrats.1 point

My thoughts exactly. You have 2 nervous people in a tense situation and now have 1 person grabbing a loaded gun out of the other's holster and handling it. Looks like a recipe for trouble. I agree with the officer having a right to disarm but I don't think in this instance it was done very safely.1 point

It seems to me that the more people that must disarm, the more chances for a negligent discharge.1 point

On the same day this happened, some guy thought it would be a good idea to attack someone, in the police department's parking lot, with an ax. No one was hurt or shot, but I'm told :) , that it was an exciting couple of minutes. Oh, and SPD also had a pursuit that ended in a crash too. All these separate incidents happened within about 5 hours of each other. And people think Smyrna is just a sleepy little town where the police do nothing but write tickets... Kudos to the Officers of SPD!1 point
