A cop in Kansas did something beyond nice for a guy that seems to really deserve a hand up. I believe McDonald vs Chicago is quite clear on the matter of firearm ownership, and specifically that of handguns, which was what the suit was about in the first place. - OS2 points

I know of no case law, federal or state of TN, where conviction for such would be found without direct proof of knowledge of such. That's why stings always include, "hey I don't live in your state, but...", or "I can't buy a gun from a dealer, but", or "I'm only 17, but..." Well, federal includes "reasonable cause to believe", so it's a bit more wiggle room for prosecution. As far as the minor part, TN law requires "Intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly", so I suppose "recklessly" might be about the same as "reasonable cause to believe". But as per above comment, AFAIK burden of proof is about the same for both cases. - OS2 points

Watched an episode of Vice last night on HBO with POTUS in a federal prison talking to inmates about mandatory minimums, pleading out and their situation in general. Was one of the most respectable moments I've seen of him in 6 years. Story led into what happens after prison and precisely the situation that the guy in this video ended up in. People fuck up sometimes and now they are punished for life. POTUS brought up that thing about people not being able to ask if you were a criminal on applications, but allowing it during an interview, because most ex-cons are shut out of the opportunity from the get go as soon as they check off that box on the application. At least this way, they have a chance to explain during an interview.2 points

I think a lot of people buy them just as a status symbol and not for the real reason for which they were made. I have a guy across the street from my place that has a black Hummer. I am thinking that what he paid for the tires and wheels he had put on it could pay for a great college education in many colleges. I have never seen it dirty or driven in the rain.................. :shrug:2 points

Over a Year later and I am now convinced more than ever that this zombie thread is the Revenge of TankerHC! And for those newer members to TGO..., TankerHC was a flaming A-Hole who just didn't know when to back away from the keyboard. The SOB would private message you and attack your thread comments. Then came "The Rapture" where TGO David banished TankerHC to pre-tribulation where he now experiences hardships, disasters, famine, war, pain, and suffering. And forthwith Peace came upon TGO. And civil discussions on firearms and the topics of the day resumed...... ...... which gets me back on topic. I'm not a big fan of cheap 1911s.2 points

As some of you may or may not have know, I moved to bowling green for school. Needless to say, everyone convinced me to get a dorm. So I did. And the guy never showed up to I got the place all to myself. And I must say, its working out great. Even though we have a dumb policy of no guns or alcohol in the dorms. But at least I did find a way to make everyone who comes over jealous. Not to mention, since I cook, tons of people stop by to see what I am cooking. And my group in history is all former servicemen. They and the professor got a kick out of my background on my laptop.1 point

Went to Tennessee Gun Country yesterday looking at G43s. Richard let me shoot his set up. Nice G43. Went ahead and picked up one set up like his for a small carry piece. Going back today to wring it out. I don't usually go with small pistols but I think I need one for those special times.1 point

Neat! How's the accuracy? I ran a CNC ( larger version ) for 15 yrs. One had a 54ft table. Handy machine to have around. Can't count the times I wish I had one in my little shop. Have fun..........1 point

If the lower was a rifle first it must always remain a rifle. If it is a pistol first it can go back and forth providing it is never assumed into an NFA item. If you have a barrel less than 16" on a lower WITH a stock you have made an illegal firearm unless you have paid your $200 tax to build it.1 point

Simple rule of thumb for me, if my gun is not welcome, I am not welcome. Same goes for my wife. let me explain that one, she is blind, has a guide dog and we have been turned away from many well known restaurants, such as TGIF, I do believe in talking to the owners and trying to convince them that no gun signs are a sign of magical thinking. I ask them, do you really think that your sign will stop a bad guy who is desperate from robbing you, or an ex from coming in and shooting one of your employees or customers? if they are honest, they say no, it wont. Then ask, do you think it would prevent me from eating here? spending my money at your establishment? I have been back ground checked, not a felon, and I carry for my protection and my family protection only. Do you have a problem with that? They will probably say no. I have seen signs come down here in OKlahoma because I asked these questions. One response I did get was "I have the signs up to get a 10% discount on my insurance" I now carry a little folder, with the red circle and line drawn through it with a tornado in the middle. I tell them this sign should get you another 10%, and it will be just as effective or even MORE effective than their no gun sign. We cant be silent, but we can be polite. You be the difference!!!!1 point

I recommend getting into homebrew first. Nowadays it seems everyone is doing it, and you can find a plethora of online help and kits regarding it. Remember, making your mash is still the most important part... When we "graduated" to distilling we did it on a stove top reflux still we made to use in an apartment on a gas stove or grill - we had a made it out of copper, with the cooling unit being first - about a 10 foot small coil that we submerged in a fishing cooler and ran off into a 5 gal bucket. That would not evenly cool it so we went to a 18" downpipe and put a "muffler" over it with two spigots - one so we could run a water hose from out sink through it and another hose leading to the drain. Now - if you have a ton of room you can make a giant reflux still out of old copper water boilers and have your cooling unit setup anyway you see fit. It is a great hobby to get into - and when the world ends, you bet money people would trade you virgins and cigs for the stuff. A lot of work goes into it but it is a lot of fun and a great source of pride - especially when you have your own recipes. Other tertiary things to keep in mind are the type of plastics or glass you may or may not use to store/capture your end product. Fermentation of your mash. The Almighty Original Gravity. Different kinds of sugars and strains of yeast. Not drinking methanol. Hooyah! Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk1 point

Just wanted to mention that if anyone feeds birds like i do you might want to check out Walmart price on black oil sunflower seeds at $16.75 a 40# bag as of 9/25/15. That to me was a GOOD price I use a lot of sunflower seed. I'm not going to tell ya how many feeders I have around here you'd laugh and say I'm crazy. LOL Not to mention the deer,, turkey, and all the other critters I feed. Almost forgot to tell ya that was the walmart in Sevierville...1 point

Feed the birds!!!!! Gosh that is the story of my life....... I feed birds and Squirrels year around. I feed Hummingbirds all Summer and i have 10 HB feeders up. I had birds up till about 5 days ago and all at once they are gone again for another year. I will leave the feeders up for any late migrating birds for about 2 more weeks and then will switch over to the seed feeders for my winter time birds. I will put up about 15 extra long tube feeders up for the birds and 6 box feeders for the Squirrels. I have already bought 100 lbs of bird seed and 100 pounds of wild critter mix. Later on when the acorns fall I have a place I can go with my shop vac and pick up about 100 lbs of acorns to mix into the critter mix. That should get me into mid February depending on how hard the Winter is. Except for my Kasey girl, wild critters are my biggest enjoyment. They are a pleasure and so relaxing to just sit and watch............. :up:1 point

I understand people not wanting guns to get into the hands of nut cases. However, if the government had any real concern about it they would have a solution that isn’t just letting an FFL charge whatever they want to do a transfer. As long as you don’t know the person is not allowed to purchase a firearm, and you get a signed bill of sale stating that he is legal to own, a resident of this state and shows proof of age; you have done all you can reasonably do. Gun stores sell guns to nut cases that can pass a background check and then they go on a shooting spree; so that possibility always exists when selling firearms.1 point

So the second sample generously given to me was Elijah Craig Barrel Proof 134.8. So I took the first sip neat just for a benchmark, and no surprise, its HOT. But I could get some good flavors of caramel and oak, but no where near the oak of the Ocean. So, instead of ice I diluted with room temperature filtered water and the result was a truly great drink. Lots of good bold flavor. Im no expert taster but this is a really great bourbon, I enjoyed it greatly. I would say I liked it better than the Ocean, although both were great1 point

Federal law is simply that you do not "know or have reasonable cause to believe" the recipient is not a resident of TN or is otherwise prohibited from firearm ownership. No proof is required. Nothing else is required under federal or TN law, and case law has never been established to require any documentation whatsoever to comply with that. How far you want to go with that is up to you. Many folks just ask the buyer (or not), some require seeing a TDL for the residency part, some want to see HCP, some also want bill of sale. Whatever you decide to require, state it upfront as part of the deal. And of course he should do the same in the case of a swap. - OS1 point

IIRC this mostly concerns the chambering of the .40 in Glock pistols. The factory Glock barrel doesn't fully surround the case. You can usually spot a .40 casing from a Glock due to a bulging case. Infamously referred to as the Glock smile.1 point

My church is having a grand opening service in their new building tomorrow, Sunday 9-27-15. We have been meeting in the Alcoa High School gym since 2006 but have now moved to the new building. It is located near Denso in Maryville. They have directions on their website; http://www.blountchurch.org/love-god-love-people/. 2 services on Sunday morning 09:00 and 10:30. Just wanted to put out an open invitation to anyone in the area of Blount County, TN that is looking for a church home or just wants to visit. This is a laid back, come as you are church. You don't have to dress up or anything, just be yourself. Feel free to shoot me a pm if you have any questions.1 point

So what happened to the POS that was beating the blind kid? Did him and his friends standing around that did nothing to stop it go to jail? We should be celebrating that a bully that would beat a blind kid got his azz severely beat and is in jail. Not feeling good that the person that stopped this criminal wasn’t suspended from school.1 point

It's a hard choice between Night of the Comet and This Is The End. :D Seriously though, I liked the bleakness of The Road, but there weren't enough people to keep it terribly interesting. Book of Eli was good. I actually kind of like The Postman. Don't hate me for admitting that.1 point

I don't consider plastic guns to be collectables unless they are toy guns. They fit into the tool category for me. One should always have a .357 revolver. At least one SA revolver. War guns 1911, BHP, p-38, Luger are always going to be interesting and available. Admittedly some more pricy than others. Rule is get what you like. I'm hugely vested in Smith N frames, BHP, and Colts. Lucky to have been given some of them by my father.1 point

I haven't, but do own a variety of rifles in 250-3000 as well as 257 Roberts. As they are both 3000 fps rounds with an 87 grain projectile, it sure sounds like a great idea to me! If you find a 250-3000 or 257 Roberts that isn't accurate, somebody has likely screwed with it. They are perfect for whitetails and coyotes. The only downside I see is that here, I would fear a round of it would somehow find it's way into a 556 chamber. I'll keep my deer rifles with levers or bolts.1 point
