  2. Class experiences have a way of weeding out gear that is...."sub-optimal".  Until you really experience the "Why" a particular gun or piece of gear is less than ideal you really don't have a grasp of why you need to upgrade. Until you see it fail it is still just "other people's opinions". When it refuses to shoot more than 3 rounds without malfunctioning, or until you experience how difficult it is to press the trigger , or work the slide (these are generalities not particular to any one particular gun ) then it becomes fact that you discovered...not just something someone told you.....   I tell students all the time that class is also an equipment lab for them to test their kit. I tell them to bring what you actually carry on a daily basis to pistol classes , or what you actually plan to use in case of home invasion, natural disaster, Indian uprising or zombie apocalypse for rifle and shotgun classes. Until you try to run your actual gear you actually  plan to use then you have no real idea how well (or not) it will perform.  Best to find that out in class and not on the two way range.

  4. Raven 25, wow.  That's a real Saturday Night Special.  What a piece of crap.   I would say something along the lines that the gun can be the difference between life and death.  A fancy gun isn't needed but a quality gun is a must and that someone planning on using a gun for self defense needs to plan on spending about this amount.

  10. I'm thinking Carol is slipping into a dangerous place mentally, even though she was active in killing several more people. She would never have hesitated to shoot the red head before, but was having a problem in this episode. At the end of the last scene, she was squeezing the cross she had sharpened to escape and blood dripped out of her hand. This was a response to Rick shooting the bad guy in the head. She would never have done that before. Something is changing in her mind and its not a good thing. I see Maggie becoming a ferocious wolf den mother when in danger because of her baby.

  11. Its really, really hard to beat PSA unless you want to build your own from scratch. Even then it's tough price wise unless you just have to have _____ hand guards or a barrel made by ______. And even THEN it's tough to beat unless you have yourself fooled into thinking this will be your only AR and you won't have any need or want of extra parts. One AR.

  14. I guess I'm a bit late to this party, but I do have a couple. I'm partial to the U.S. guns. :usa: Get your paperwork together and make a little road trip to the CMP South Store in Anniston, Ala. There you can pick and choose from what they have in the store and take it home right then. The staff is extremely helpful and will loan you bore and chamber gauges to help you make a selection. That's what I did and have never regretted it. Come on now. The paperwork isn't that difficult, you get to pick your own rifle, you know its in good condition and its not that far of a drive from anywhere in Tennessee. Not to mention that it'll save a at minimum a several hundred over what you might find locally. CMP Garands won't last much longer. The supply is running out. The time to get one is NOW. ;)

  16. You're likely wasting your breath until they've had the experience of shooting the pistol and getting frustrated on their own.   If they get frustrated, that gives you an opening to help them learn.  But, up to that point, it involves throwing the husband under the bus.

  17. Ask if you'd spend that much on yourself because that's really what you are doing.   The answer becomes easy after you answer that question.   I used to foolishly say in disbelief that there is no way I'd spend that kind of money on a dog.   I now have one laying at my feet that is very near and dear to my heart.   If I knew that he'd be fine and enjoy a reasonable quality of life after a several thousand dollar surgery I'd do it in a heartbeat.

  21. Well, when you are raised by government and basically taught there is no accountability for any action, everything is given to people and the culture around you is based on nothing but crime and corruption with no consequences in most ghetto homes, there you go. An entire subculture of takers is born and they can't differentiate between taking handouts or stealing from someone with more than them, or even less.

  22. I hope this isn't crossing forum lines. I've donated to BBBS before and decided this year to get involved and try to find sponsors to get me over the edge. So maybe y'all would be interested in helping me out a little. I've signed up with big brothers big sisters of Tennessee in an effort to raise $1000. I've had a little success so far with the fundraising, but haven't gotten very far. I figured I'd post here and see if anyone might be interested in giving a little to help my cause. Here's the link to my personal page to donate to.. http://otenashville.kintera.org/blewbayou I appreciate anything that is given to get me closer to my goal and ultimately for big brothers big sisters.

  23. Was talking to another member today and got on the topic of AR-15 safeties. I realized during the discussion that I've never really been a huge fan of the standard style, and thought maybe I should try making my own style. So I did, and this was the result. Still needs a good bit of tweaking but it doesn't interfere with anything, it's really comfortable, and easy to manipulate. Thoughts or ideas welcome. Bad pictures, my bad. 24. TN / GA / AL Training Group  On Sunday April 10 we will hold our 2nd meeting of the 2016 season for the TN/GA/AL Regional Suarez Int Training Group!  Instructor: Tier 1 Suarez Int Staff Instructor Randy Harris Location: The usual place- Phillips/Edwards Farm 763 County Rd 332 Pisgah AL 35765  Time: 9AM CENTRAL time - 3PM CENTRAL time Price: $60 - pay at class cash or check.  What you need to bring: Pistol, pistol magazines and at least 150 rounds of ammo. Revolvers are welcome if you want to party like it is 1899. Subject : Why did I leave my rifle at home?.....Precision pistol shooting at extended range.... We will be working on longer than usual distance pistol work. Not everything happens at arms length or inside 5 yards and sometimes there is need to take a shot at 15 yards (and farther). In the middle of the fight is not the time to find out how well you can shoot when targets are 25 yards across a parking lot or down an aisle at Walmart where bystanders may be down range or the background is not just a dirt berm or brick wall. Come out and develop your "Pistol sniping " skills.

  26. http://www.gunowners.org/alert03172016.htm John Kasich: Anti-gun “Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing” Comes word, from the Center for Responsive Politics, that Leftist billionaire George Soros, through his Soros Fund Management, is one of John Kasich's top financial contributors. This can hardly be a surprise. Kasich and Soros share two important traits: (1) their desire to mess up the Republican selection process for devious motives, and (2) their absolute hatred for the Second Amendment. Kasich’s antipathy towards gun rights is no secret to anyone who’s watched his career. Make no mistake about it: When we are winning by a large margin -- when we don't need John Kasich’s vote -- he's usually there to give us a big, wet “Don Corleone kiss.” But when the vote is close and the future of the Second Amendment is at stake, “Godfather John” usually leaves us a severed horsehead in our bed. Thus, Kasich famously joined a gaggle of fellow-RINO’s and cast the deciding vote to impose a ban on semi-auto firearms. For this, he received a personal letter of thanks from a gun-hating Bill Clinton. Kasich voted for background checks in 1993, a system where roughly 95% of denials are “false positives.” Loretta Lynch’s Justice Department has, since November, shifted FBI employees to insure that, if you’re illegally blocked by NICS from purchasing a firearm, you can never get your record corrected. In 1999, Kasich voted to retain restrictive gun ban in Washington, D.C. Not only that, Kasich joined the effort to pass 90% of Clinton’s anti-gun agenda as a form of “gun control lite.” Elements of the Kasich/Clinton agenda included: (1) Provisions making it virtually impossible to legally teach kids how to use firearms; (2) A gun show ban (masquerading as a gun show Instant Check); and (3) Mandates to require you to “lock up your guns.” Had Clinton been successful in passing his post-Columbine anti-gun agenda, it would have provided a legislative platform which could easily have eviscerated the Second Amendment over the last decade-and-a-half. But Kasich's efforts to outlaw guns -- drip-by-drip -- continues to this day. Kasich continues to be a chief advocate of actual or de facto amnesty, claiming that enforcing our immigration laws would be “inhumane.” Of course, if Kasich gets his way, the legalization of 11 million illegals will have the same effect on the American electorate that the 1986 Simpson-Mazzoli amnesty had on California. The country as a whole would become deep “anti-gun blue.” And, of course, Kasich was one of the first RINO’s to legitimize the anti-gun ObamaCare program by bringing its massive Medicaid segment into his state. Now, all it will take is for Obama to do a computer search of Kasich's Medicaid beneficiaries for “PTSD,” “Alzheimer’s,” and other “mental defectives,” and the gun rights of tens of thousands of law-abiding Ohioans could be jeopardized. And all of this was done by Kasich’s particularly nasty form of politics which he is now trying to morph, incredibly, into his “Mr. Nice” act. These actions, of course, reflect the hatred for guns by Kasich’s patron, George Soros. You may remember that, when Soros launched his campaign of “exposes” designed to destroy the conservative movement piece-by-piece, his first target was Gun Owners of America -- which Soros viewed as even more dangerous than the Koch brothers. But perhaps as bad as Kasich’s anti-gun record is his determination to destroy the GOP selection process for personal gain. Surely, even the vainglorious Kasich understands that, the longer he stays is the race, the longer the “divided field” makes it easier for an establishment candidate to hijack the process at the convention. Polls have shown -- here and here -- that Ted Cruz would beat Donald Trump in a head-to-head matchup. But by becoming the REAL “chaos candidate,” Kasich helps destroy the Republican Party by throwing the nomination to someone who is despised by the grassroots. In so doing, Kasich does the bidding of his master, George Soros. Ted Cruz would be the natural one to aggressively call out anti-gunner John Kasich for his anti-gun record. Please contact Ted Cruz and urge him to expose Kasich. Let’s not let Kasich pull the wool over the eyes of American voters. Sincerely, Tim Macy Chairman Gun Owners of America P.S. While you cannot use GOA’s Legislative Action Center to email Senator Ted Cruz -- unless you are a constituent of his -- you can easily contact him through his webform. So simply copy-n-paste the pre-written letter below into Senator Ted Cruz’ webform and urge him to expose Senator John Kasich’s anti-gun record. ----- Pre-written letter for Sen. Ted Cruz ----- Dear Senator Cruz: Thank you so much for your strong defense of the Constitution -- and in particular, the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Gun Owners of America has informed me that John Kasich has a long record of supporting gun control, including the following: 1) Kasich cast the deciding vote to impose a ban on semi-auto firearms, and for this, he received a personal letter of thanks from a gun-hating Bill Clinton. See: tinyurl.com/hp4ucsp 2) Kasich voted for background checks in 1993, a system which is now blocking a percentage of legal gun purchases. Loretta Lynch’s Justice Department has, since November, shifted FBI employees to insure that, if someone is illegally blocked by NICS from purchasing a firearm, they can never get their record corrected. See: tinyurl.com/hp4ucsp 3) In 1999, Kasich voted to retain restrictive gun ban in Washington, D.C. See: tinyurl.com/zyljbep 4) Also in 1999, he voted for provisions making it virtually impossible to legally teach kids how to use firearms; for a gun show ban (masquerading as a gun show Instant Check); and for mandates to requiring people to “lock up their guns.” See: tinyurl.com/jq84rcd With John Kasich deciding to remain in the presidential race, I think it’s important for someone on the national level to expose his anti-gun votes. I hope you will continue to point out Kasich's anti-gun positions. Sincerely,

  29. There's a dash cam by Cobra that I installed in my daughter's car a few months ago when she started driving.  Not only does it record video and audio, but GPS data and speed. She got a speeding ticked a few weeks ago.  She swears she wasn't doing 30 over the limit.  But, of course, the dash cam suction cup lost its seal, and she's not quite sure where it ended up... Technology is nice.  When it works.  And, perhaps, when it isn't sabotaged... ETA: Oh, yeah.  She's also paying for the ticket.  And the increase in insurance, if she can't get it dismissed with traffic school.  And she's buying a new dash cam.

  30. Usually every class has someone that needs guidance. I give generalized guidelines/ suggestions early on in the class. I hate for new shooters to have trouble during qualification. If they insist on using a difficult gun, I will get them to change out to a 22 pretty quick. Also generally no good reason to go buy a gun just for a carry class. Plenty of time later to make good, informed choice.

  32. update for anyone who may be a future violator in Knoxville     I went to city/municipal court for a mandatory 9:00 appearance for 35/30 speeding this morning   ...about 9:10 the bailiff explains difference between guilty/not guilty/no contest pleas and when  your name is called to say which one...he calls through a couple hundred names where many were not there due to postponement, taking care of earlier, etc...I called out no contest   ...about 9:30 a lady comes out and has the 7 lawyers there representing people sign some form    ...nothing else until 10:10 when the judge decides to make a special guest appearance...maybe he was in chambers eating a T-bone and eggs...who knows   ...then they finally get the ball rolling...he takes the lawyers cases first so they can get back to their offices to fleece some more citizens...he knocks them out pretty quickly   ...by 10:35 he's ready to start calling us regular people up to face him by alphabetical order, of course...with my last name starting with a "S", of course   ...he takes a few "C"s then jumps to the "M"s for some reason...then it looked like he was knocking out the speeders first as I was next to a man with a tag issue with last name "C" and he had not called him when I left   ...then by 10:55 it's my turn ..he asks me how I plead...told him no contest/...he asked if I had anything to say...I told him that I had a spotless driving record for the past 14 years and would appreciate anything to be able to keep the 1 point and infraction off of my license...he looked at his computer then at me    gave me DOUBLE SECRET PROBATION for one month...said if I don't get any traffic violations for one month then it will be dismissed   ...of course I had to make a donation on the way out to the Policemen's Ball for $101.50 (court costs)   I felt like telling them that they should be paying me for getting started over an hour late...but kept my yap shut...and I will check my driving record in 6 weeks to make sure the violation did not mysteriously appear    I will say that the judge was nice and seemed to be doing all he could in the people's favor

She got pretty upset after I brought it up again last night, even going as far as threatening to NOT drive the car. Of course I called her bluff. Needless to say, I wasn't even slightly surprised when she came begging for the car key this morning.

  40. As an old friend of mine used to say, "Trust isn't like a broken leg.  It takes a long time to heal."   You've already got some trust issues.  I expect your daughter may, too.  I would make sure that you have the conversation on the front end about your ability to see where she is and where she is going.  Otherwise, there's no positive outcome once you disclose the fact that you have that data.   You'd think that a conversation about trust, responsibility and oversight wouldn't be such a big deal, but in this day and age where those traits are so rare between parents and children, it has the potential to really blow up if you don't handle it correctly.

  41. Bassoneer I am so sorry to hear this. I hope that there is a treatment that can let him have a normal life. Me and the Misses can relate to exactly what your going through. It all comes down to quality of life. The money sucks and can play a huge factor in the treatment but how he will live is the big factor. Let the vet get all the results in and see what they tell you. We currently have our oldest at the vets now waiting for tests and overnight progress, it's terrifying. I really hope they can give you some good news soon.
