I will GLADLY compromise!!!  I would like for ALL gun laws to disappear!  I'll compromise and agree to get rid of only the 1934 NFA and 1994 Brady Act (for now).   Compromise works two ways.  All I have heard is THEIR way, not OUR way!  We need to take the battle to them.  Let them realize that letting them keep ANY gun laws is a compromise to us. :usa:

  6. I have grown to be pretty close friends to a buddy of mine who has mobility issues.     As I have gotten to know him over the past few months, he has mentioned how much he would like to have the ability to be outdoors and to hunt.  I have been blessed access to prime hunting property and saw this as a great opportunity to help fulfill some wishes of his.  I do not see him as a charity project, I am just a friend helping a friend as I get a lot out of our friendship too.      Well 2 weekends ago, when it was nice and rainy.  We set out to do an afternoon hunt out at the land.  There were a lot of logistical challenges in getting set up because once he is in a chair, he cant get out without a great deal of effort from the both of us.  But we managed to get him set up over a 30 acre harvested soybean field where deer come out fairly regularly.    The rains came down and the floods came up!  I set us up in a low spot and by the time we finished the hunt, we were in about 3 inches of water!  Lesson learned! Anyways, once we were all set in the hunting blind.  We saw a massive flock of turkeys come out to feed.  We counted 24.  Then a few minutes later, another flock of turkeys came out to make the total of 41 turkeys that we were watching!  Both of us enjoy being outdoors wether we see anything or not, but seeing things is always so much more fun!  Our hunt was off to a great start!   After about 3 hours, I hear him say, "I see a deer!!  Its a buck!"  Sure enough, there was a 2.5yr old 8 point out about 80 yards from us.  He asked if he was a shooter and I said heck yeah he is!  The nerves were pumping.  Heart was racing. Lungs were hyperventilating.  And those were just mine!!!  I wasn't even the one shooting!  haha   I helped him get the gun up and rested correctly on the Bog Pod and after he had the crosshairs set he asked me if I was ready for him to shoot.  My buddy dropped that deer in his tracks!  I really thought that guy was going to jump out of his chair, he was so excited!  I threw the blind off of us as we hugged, shook hands and laughed ourselves silly.  What a great experience for the both of us!   I ran and drug the deer back to him for a few photos and afterwords, he said something that really touched my heart.  He said that he didnt know he could get excited like that anymore.  I really didn't have a response at the time other than to say I am glad he had a good time.  But we will get more opportunities to hunt and I expect him to get excited again with his first turkey this coming season!    I hope to build some better blinds with good ramps on them in the future for him and I hope to one day be able to help provide opportunities to those with illnesses and physical challenges.

  7. 99% of all the cycling issues with an AR are related to the gun being over or under gassed. An under gassed gun is easy to diagnose but an over gassed gun is much harder to find.   What is over gassing? It is when the bolt is unlocked prematurely when the barrel pressures are still relatively high. It can becaused by a few things but the biggest cause is a gas port that is way over sized for the port position. The industry has embraced the idea that a over gassed gun is a reliable gun. But that is just not the case. When the same industry began to realize this they introduce heavy weight buffers to mend the problems of their over gassed guns.   When an AR is over gassed the bolt speed increases and this can cause rounds to not be picked up or the bolt not locking back on an empty magazine. It can also effect how well the gun ejects the spent rounds. Both of these problems are problems wth reliability.   An over gassed gun will also reduce the velocity because the bolt is unlocking while there is still more pressures in the barrel. Those additional pressures are used to vercome the resistance of the bullet and increase velocity. Once a bullet is moving is doesn't take much to keep it moving so any amount of gas bleed off by a over gassed system reduces teh velocity.   Another issue, the biggest IMHO, with over gassed guns is they run much dirtier because of the extra pressures still in the barrel at the time the bolt unlocks. Also, the additional gas being forced down the gas tube only adds to the large amount of crud in the upper receiver. And all this extra crud causes reliability issues. This is why everyone says to run an AR wet, it is not because an AR needs the extra lubrication but because it helps suspend the crud and this helps the cruddy gun run. I have had one of my guns go well over 1,000 rounds without cleaning or lube. It ran an adjustable gas block that was set to the minimum gas impulse to run. A properly gassed gun will shoot thousands of rounds between cleanings. And it will do so with a minimal amount of lubrication as well.   Another problem is premature wear on the locking lugs. When a gun is properly gassed the amount pf pressure on the locking lugs as they clear the corner is minimal comparted to when a gun is over gassed. Although it will take a long time to become an issue it is still an issue.   And finally, having a properly gassed gun will reduce the felt recoil. What, how can that possibly be? Well when a gun is over gassed the bolt unlocks earlier than is should when the pressures and gas volume are still higher than they should be. The additional pressures and volume exert more force upon the bolt and buffer. When this happens it increases their speed as they travel rearward. And then those fast moving buffers and bolts come to an abrupt stop as they impact the rear of the buffer tube very hard. And this impact is felt as a strong jolt that most confuse with recoil. An AR should have the same recoil as a bolt action that weighs the same or even less felt recoil because the impulse is lengthened because of the semi automatic action. But in most cases the AR will have a harder recoil impulse. And if you want to see a difference disable the gas system on your AR and shoot it, you might be surprized at how light the recoil actually is.   These are the reason why people say a midlength gas gun recoils softer. It is because they have more volume in the barrel to reduce the pressues before the bolt unlocks. And that is why rifle length systems are generally the softest shooting guns. Take an old A1 that weighs less than most modern M4's and the A1 will have less of a recoil impulse than the M4. The reason why is the bolt speed is much slower on the rifle length gas system of the A1 than the on the carbine length gas system of the M4.   I recommend this to everyone, even if they think their gun isn't over gassed. I recommend they install an adjustble gas block and tune their gun. It offers a lot of advantages that people don't think about without any detractors. It reduces recoil, keeps the gun clean, makes the gun more reliable and reduces wear and tear. People spend a lot of money on fancy muzzle brakes and flash hiders to reduce recoil when an adjustable gas block could accomplish a lot of the same effects. Shootign an AR with an adjustable gas block AND a muzzle brake is 22 lr like in recoil.   In the industry's quest to build a better gun they have made it much worse than Gene Stoner's original design. Gene developed a lightweight gun that was both effective AND reliable. It was when the industry began monkeying with it that both of those attributes were taken away. If you have ever shot an original A1 against a modern M4 you will understand completely.   Dolomite

  11. Tim that would work with rational people, but if you let the crazies take a little at a time they fly under the radar and are able to stay in the shadows. Look at who we have as a president. In any other time frame he would have been labeled (correctly so) a socialist commie and no one would have supported him ... even for congress. I've watched our side try to "negotiate", find middle ground, compromise, be "reasonable" and all we do is loose.   I am more convinced now than ever that the only way to fight the other side is to put up a rock wall and stand firm. That's how we beat the Russians, that is how they have been beating us, that is how the Vietcong beat us, and it is the only way to beat them. You can't give them anything. They have a weakness ...their arrogance. With their arrogance if you don't allow them legitimacy they will eventually throw a tantrum. Once they reveal their underside you can fight fire with fire. You can't give into their premise or it validates them and they keep going. Lies need constant validation. If you shut off the validation you will choke the argument.   BTW - we are on the same side. I just see a different approach. You're idea would work extremely well with people who actually care about the good of the country and not just their own party ideology.

Yeager's response to CTD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWR2Y_NBsOQ   I know many don't like him but he makes a point that gun people turning on gun people is a betrayal and that practices like what CTD is doing, not only in their cessation of firearms sales, but their hyperinflation of items like PMags, is criminal. Boycott with your wallet.   I'm equally upset over people on ar15.com doing the same thing. People jacking up the prices of BCG's, PMag's, etc., to take advantage of one another. This is not about investment or about smart purchasing, but its about taking advantage of people, which is a travesty.

  13. TN should pass a law prohibiting unmarked cars from doing traffic enforcement...  It's too big of a safety risk for the public to be pulled over by unmarked cars....   And the reality is that marked cars doing traffic enforcement have a better effect on road safety than unmarked cars.   The only reason cities want to use unmarked cars is for revenue, NOT road safety, it's time we place the safety of our wives and daughters above revenue in this state.

  27.  The cost or value of the gun has zero to do with you being shot or not. It has to do with how safety minded the carrier is. If you are going to be shot by a cheap handgun because of negligence it would have happened with the most expensive handgun as well. In order for you to be shot a person has to point a gun at you and that is not a failure of the gun but a failure of the user. I guess all the unintentional shootings we hear about are the guns fault because it sure couldn't be the fault of a human being.   Just because someone can afford a gun doesn't mean they can afford the licensing to carry it. I have offered guns to people in need because they could not afford a gun. Those people sure couldn't afford the cost of training and licensing to carry a firearm. Then there is the wait time associated with getting approval to carry. If a person has a situation where they are in fear of something happening to them they should not have to wait until they can get trained and then get their permit back to be able to defend themselves. In those cases where the personis  in fear for their life they should be able to carry immediately without the need to be trained or licensed.   Personally it should not cost anybody anything to be able to carry within our state. There should be no requirements mandated and anyone who can own a firearm should be able to carry that firearm. Carrying a gun in our state should be the same as carrying a gun on your own property. Now if the person needs to travel outside of the state then that person should meet the requirements of the other state. If there are costs associated with the additional training then the individual should be pay those costs.    And if the state wants to collect a "tax" on carrying a firearm then they should run it like a "tax" and base it upon income. Maybe .1% of the gross, not net, annual income reported on the income tax returns as "taxable amount". If they don't have any income then their permit is free because they have shown a hardship. This would mean that the average person in Tennessee would pay about 1/2 what they do now.   Dolomite

  34. So with everything happening at the moment, it got me thinking that being on the NFA registry and opening myself to the search parameters of the ATF is probably not worth the hassle of having one SBR. I'd just rather withdraw my application before it gets any further (No tinfoil :))  and keep my pistol status.  BTW - my app was sent in November and is pending. I was expecting to get it back at the soonest in March.   Two questions: 1. Is it really something to be concerned about or not? 2. What's the best way to go about this if I decide to follow through with my withdraw?   Its not so much a tinfoil issue as a legal issue if things were to get worse. I mean the gun is already the evilest of evil AK's. A short, high capacity, killing machine, Draco! ;)

I bought the powder dippers just for checking my scale and sometimes to keep from reseting the powder dispenser and scale. The powder dippers and chart are really conservative. I'll look later and measure the spoon (is it the .5cc?) to see what that amount of Unique weighs. Honestly I see no issue with using dippers if you are positive it's the right amount. Also the Lee Nanual Loader is good for occasionally reloading.

  44. Previously posted on Tea Party Nation.   What you have heard from many politicians and news commentators IS correct. It IS time to have a reasonable discussion about Gun Control. Let's start with the absolute FACT that gun-free zones and gun control have been dismal failures at preventing crime and mass killings. The highly-publicized shootings at the theater in Aurora, Colorado and now at an elementary school in Connecticut should have proven those facts beyond any doubt.   So lets look at what our leaders have come up with as a way to stop or reduce such incidents. More gun control. Oh, sure, since the gun-free zones and existing gun control have done such a good job, let's have more of it. We have just seen 22 6 year-old children sacrificed on the altar of THAT absurd idea.   In one of the most gun free zones in the world, a man with a knife stabbed and slashed 22 children at a school in China on the same day that 22 children in the US were being shot to death (1). And NBC News reported that this was not the only such incident in China (2). A string of such incidents in early 2010 resulted in over 20 deaths and more than 50 wounded. the largest mass murder in the US, was done by a farmer who killed 44 people and injured another 58 when he blew up a school in Bath, MI. No amount of gun control could have stopped any of those.   The BBC recently reported that handgun murders INCREASED in the two years after the UK confiscated nearly all of the legally-owned handguns in the country (3). And other countries with very strict gun control have seen mass murders as well. In Norway last summer, Anders Breivik killed 77 people before being stopped by a heavily-armed SWAT team (4). In 2009, a 17 year-old in Germany killed 15 and wounded 11 (5).   So, having shown that Gun Control does NOT work, what is there with a proven record of stopping such violence?   Someone with a gun.   Is it preferable to have a murderer free to continue methodically killing until the police arrive, or to have somebody on the scene with at least a chance to stop him?   Ideally, you would want a fully-armed Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, Marine Recon, or other elite warrior, on hand and ready to place their lives between a killer and innocent children. Sadly, mass murderers very rarely attack innocent people when there are armed warriors around. In fact, you could say that they intentionally plan their attacks for places where such armed warriors are NOT present.   However, there are a very large number of armed people who have often shown that they have not only the ability, but the willingness to place themselves between killers and their victims.   In the US, there are at least 9.6 million potential civilian concealed handgun carriers. There are several states that do not require permits to carry a concealed weapon, so there is no telling how many of them may be armed. But with almost 10 million folks that may be armed, there is a good chance that someone you see today is carrying a weapon.   Just last week, there was a shooting at a mall in Oregon. After killing two people, the shooter, with several working firearms and lots of ammunition left, suddenly decided to kill himself. He was suddenly confronted by an armed citizen with a handgun, who was carrying that weapon in spite of signs that posted the mall as a Gun-Free zone (6). There is no way to know how many lives were saved by that decision. And that was not the only time in recent history that a mass-murderer was stopped by an armed citizen (7). 2012 - church, Aurora, CO 2012 - store, Santa Clara, CA 2012 - RV Park, Early, TX 2010 - store, New York Mills, NY 2009 - store, Richmond, VA 2009 - birthday party, College Park, GA 2007 - New Life Church, Colorado Springs, CO 2007 - bar, Winnemuca, NV 2002 - Appalachian School of Law, Grundy, VA 1998 - school dance, Edinboro, PA 1997 - Pearl High School, Pearl, Mississippi 1995 - store, Muskegon, MI 1991 - Shoney's, Anniston, AL   Sadly, mass murderers who are stopped do not get very much attention from the news. In fact, murders and other crimes that are stopped by armed civilians do not get reported very often. Sometimes, the story is reported, but the fact that an armed person stopped the crime is not mentioned.   For the past fifty years, we have been told that guns are bad. And that civilians with guns will cause murder rates to rise, 'Wild-West' shootouts, and 'blood in the streets'. Firearm ownership has increased during that time, as have the numbers of concealed carry permit holders. And what has happened? Murder rates have DECLINED. And violent crime has declined most in places that have made civilian concealed carry possible (8, 9). Whether there is an actual correlation between those two statistics is in debate. But the FACT is that the 'Wild-West', and 'blood-in-the-streets' nightmares have NOT happened. And the most significant fact is that while firearm ownership has gone UP, violence has not. So obviously, having guns around does NOT cause violence.   Those who propose to confiscate all firearms and/or ammunition from civilians are just ignorant. Making either firearms and/or ammunition is not rocket science. This is a technology that is hundreds of years old and widely known. Anyone with simple skills and a minumum of tools can accomplish it. People with primive tools and materials make machine guns and ammunition under the harshest conditions (10). Does anyone believe that a nation of craftsman-hobbyists cannot accomplish it as well?   The conclusion is that our national policy of not allowing legally-armed citizens to carry in schools and other 'gun-free zones' has been a disaster. It has allowed an untold number of needless murders, and made our children into defenseless targets for anyone seeking to end their life with national headlines. It is time to reverse this idiocy and allow those who are willing and able to defend the innocent.   It is time to eliminate 'gun-free zones' and other restrictive laws, and restore the right of the citizens to protect their lives, loved ones, and property.     1) http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/12/14/15901085-villager-slashes-22-kids-with-knife-at-elementary-school-gates-in-china?lite 2) http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/12/14/15901085-villager-slashes-22-kids-with-knife-at-elementary-school-gates-in-china?lite 3) http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/1440764.stm 4) http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/13/world/europe/norway-massacre-report/index.html 5) http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/mar/11/germany-school-shooting-winnenden-albertville 6) http://www.mrctv.org/videos/media-blackout-oregon-mall-shooting-stopped-licensed-gun-carrier 7) http://gunwatch.blogspot.com/2012/12/mass-killings-stopped-by-armed-citizens.html 8) http://www.wral.com/news/state/nccapitol/story/11204311/ 9) http://www.handgunsmag.com/2012/06/20/2011-fbi-violent-crime-stats-gun-ownership-upcrime-rates-drop/ 10) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JajLlxEiXxg

I hate to disagree with you, but I say "Yes, really, no compromise".  When the opposition proposes banning ALL guns and we compromise and say "Let's just ban these features", we lose.  When they come back again and want to ban all guns, we compromise and say "Well, let's just ban these certain guns", we lose.  That's not compromising, that's losing a little bit at a time.     A real compromise would be saying "Ok, we'll agree to background checks at gun shows if you take suppressors out of the NFA '34".  THAT is compromise.  When each side gets something they want.   For the record, I did vote for Romney even though he wasn't my first choice as nominee.  That's compromise.   And finally, if I were a woman and were about to be raped, I'd want to have a pistol in my hand so I could blow the rapist's brains all over the landscape.  But we're about to compromise away our ability to do that.   Respectfully,   Will

Westboro came to my town once & this is what we did!   A few years ago a car full of cheerleaders wrecked after a local high school football game & all of them burned to death. The nature of the wreck touched the heart of the entire community. Somehow it got the attention of Westboro church and they deemed that the cheerleaders died the way they did because they were "evil whores, hated by God" (quote from the church's website) & planned a protest march at their funerals & at the school. Sure enough Westboro church members made the trip all the way across the country to Scott County to make their protest, but after dozens of death threats from locals both the city & county police depts. & a few members of the TN highway patrol were called in just in case it turned violent. The church chickened out of showing up at the funerals, but did make a brief appearance at the high school. Apparently Westboro members decided that 1,000 pissed off residents (some of them armed with guns & baseball bats) weren't worth the risk because when they got to the school only four church members got out of their van. They held up picket signs for about five minutes, said a short (silent) prayer, got back in their van and headed back west. Westboro only cares about getting headlines and funding. Their "great protest" fizzled out once they got to my town & saw how outnumbered they were, plus they were refused service by every motel & gas station in the area & their stay wasn't a pleasant one.
