  1. IF you can afford to help keep TGO up and running smoothly, please consider doing so by becoming a TGO Benefactor or Authorized Vendor. I don't have any inside information, but I'd imagine it's not exactly cheap to keep TGO up and running as smoothly as TGO David and crew does.  TGO and its wise members have not only been extremely helpful to me over the last several years, they've also been a real source of entertainment. The awesome members who make up TGO have created an oasis of sorts; a place for me to escape life's realities. For so many reasons, I am truly grateful for TGO. Here are some perks of becoming a TGO Benefactor:   - Authorized Vendors have been known to post special super-secret discounts and deals only available to TGO Benefactors. - Benefactors are given immediate access to the Benefactor Lounge and the TGO Trading Post (Classifieds). They may start new threads in the Trading Post forums regardless of post count or tenure, bypassing the 30-day and 50-post requirement that all other members must meet.   - Benefactors are all marked with the logo (above) shown under their names in each post that they make on the forum.   - Benefactors can use custom user titles in their profile.   - Benefactors can store up to 100 private messages whereas regular members can only store 50.   - Benefactors can manage (moderate) comments to their blog.   - Benefactors can delete their own blog entries.   - Benefactors can add events to the TGO calendar and they are immediately posted w/o need for a moderator to approve them.   - Benefactors see a little more detail about what everyone is doing when they view the Who's Online page.   - Benefactors can edit and delete (moderate) Visitor Messages left to their profile by other members.   - Benefactors have 20MB of storage in our Photo Gallery whereas regular members only have 10MB. To purchase a TGO Benefactor subscription, please visit the TGO Store. 6-Month TGO Benefactor subscription: $20 1-Year TGO Benefactor subscription: $35 Lifetime Benefactor subscription (Best Deal): $150 About TGO Authorized Vendors:   TGO Vendors are businesses who support this site through one of several tiers of membership. In exchange for their support, they are granted the privilege of advertising their goods and services through either promotional postings on the forum or several sizes of Banner Advertisements.   A TGO Vendor account can start out for as little as the equivalent of $20 per month for a one year term. The various tiers go up from there, but a person who wants to engage in a sideline business can easily get started on TGO for less than the cost of one delivery pizza per month.   I have frequently told people who are interested in becoming a Vendor that if their business plan doesn't provide for $240 a year in advertising costs, that they need to re-evaluate their business plan. Being completely honest here, that's dirt cheap advertising. It's cheaper than a box of business cards and is likely to generate a ton more business -- quickly -- for a person than any other means. Newspaper, radio, TV... all are astronomically more expensive than this.   Just remember, we do protect the investment that our Vendor partners have made in this site. We do not let anyone advertise commercial interest here without being a TGO Vendor and that does apply to Benefactor members as well. If you're providing recurring goods or services to our members and trying to do this as a Benfactor, your're doing it wrong.   So there you have it. If you're interested in becoming a TGO Vendor, contact TGO David and get the ball rolling.

  2. MRE dinner date - the following is a story from a young Marine.   I had a date the other night at my place. On the phone the day before, the girl asked me to "Cook her something she's never had before" for dinner.  After many minutes of scratching my head over what to make, I finally settled on something she has DEFINITELY never eaten before.   I got out my trusty case of MRE's (Meal, Ready-to-Eat) Field rations that when eaten in their entirety contain 3000+ calories in each meal. Here's what I made: I took three of the Ham Slices out of their plastic packets, took out three of the Pork Chops, three packets of Chicken-a-la-king and eight packets of dehydrated butter noodles and some dehydrated/rehydrated rice. I cooked the Ham Slices and Pork Chops in one pan, sauteed in shaved garlic and olive oil.  In another pot, I blended the Chicken a-la-king, noodles, and rice together to make a sort of mush that looked suspiciously like succotash. I added some spices, and blended everything together in a glass pan that I then cooked in the oven for about 35 minutes at 450 degrees. When I took it out, it looked like, well, ham slices, pork chops, and a bed of yellow poop.  I covered the tops of the meat in the MRE cheese (kinda like Velveeta) and added some green sprinkly things from one of my spice cans (hey, if it has green sprinkly things on it, it looks fancy right?) For dessert, I took four MRE Pound Cakes, mashed 'em up, added five packets of cocoa powder, powdered coffee cream, and some water.  I heated it up and stirred it until it looked like a sort of chunky gelatinous xxxxxxx, and I sprinkled powdered sugar on top of it.  Voilaanger Pudding! For dinner drinks, I took the rest of my bottle of Military Special Vodka (yes, they DO make a type of liquor named "Military Special"...it sells for $4.35 per fifth at the Class Six) and mixed in four packets of "Electrolytes - 1 each - Cherry flavored" (I swear, the packet says that).  It looked like an eerie Kool-Aid with sparkles in it (that was the electrolytes I guess... but could've been leftover sand from Egypt ). I lit two candles, put a vase of wildflowers in the middle, and set the table with my best set of Ralph Lauren Academy-series China (that stuff is EXPENSIVE... My set of 8 place settings cost me over $600 on sale at the Lejeune PX), and put the alcoholic drink in a crystal wine decanter. She came over, and I had some appetizers already made, of MRE spaghetti-with-meatballs, set in small cups.  She saw the dinner, saw the food, and said "This looks INCREDIBLE!!!" We dug in, and she loved the food. Throughout the meal, she kept asking me how long it took me to make it, and kept remarking that I obviously knew a thing or two about cooking fine meals. She kind of balked at the make-shift "wine" I had set out, but after she tried it I guess she liked it because she drank four glasses during dinner. At the end of the main course, when I served the dessert, she squealed with delight at the "Chocolate mousse" I had made.  Huh? Chocolate what?  Okay... Yeah... Its Chocolate Moose.  Took me HOURS to make... Yup! Later on, as we were watching a movie, she excused herself to use my rest room.  While she was in there, I heard her say softly to herself "uh oh" and a resounding but petite fart punctuated her utterance of dismay. Let the games begin.  She sprayed about half a can of air freshener (Air Freshener, 1 each, Orange scent.  Yup.  The military even makes smell-good) and returned to the couch, this time with an obvious pained look.  After 10 more minutes she excused herself again, and retreated to the bathroom for the second time, I could hear her say, "What the hell is WRONG with me???" as she again send flatulent shock waves into the porcelain bowl.  This time, they sounded kinda wet, and I heard the toilet paper roll being employed, and again, LOTS more air freshener. Back to the couch.  She smiles meekly as she decides to sit on the chair instead of next to me.  She sits on my chair, knees pulled up to her chest, kind of rocking back and forth slightly.  Suddenly, without a word, she ROCKETED up and FLEW to the bathroom, slammed the door, and didn't come out for 30 minutes.  I turned the movie up because I didn't want her to hear me laughing so hard that tears were streaming down my cheeks. She came out with a slightly gray pallor to her face, and said "I am SOOOOOO sorry.  I have NO idea what is wrong with me.  I am so embarrassed; I can't believe I keep running to your bathroom!!" I gave her an Imodium AD, and she finally settled down and relaxed.  Later on, she asked me again what I had made for dinner, because she had enjoyed it so much.  I calmly took her into the kitchen and showed her all the used MRE bags and packets in the trash can.  After explaining to her that she had eaten roughly 9,000 calories of "Marine Corps Field Rations" she turned stark white, looked at me incredulously, and said "I ate 9,000 calories of dehydrated food that was made 3 years ago?" After I admitted it, she grabbed her coat and keys, and took off without a word.  She called me yesterday.  Seems she couldn't shit for 5 days, and when she finally did, the smell was so bad, her roommate could smell it from down the hall.  She also told me she had been working out nonstop to combat the high caloric intake, and that she never wanted me to cook dinner for her again, unless she was PERSONALLY present and supervising. It was a fun date.  She laughed about it eventually and said that that was the first time she'd ever crapped in a guy's house on a date.  She'd been so upset by it she was in tears in the bathroom while I had been in tears on the couch.

  3. I learn something new everyday! I didn't know we had access to the calendar other than view only mode. This is a very under utilized tool that could benefit lots of folks. I for one have already gone in and updated with our Action Pistol match schedule for the year for any folks that are looking for local matches. Thanks TDR!

  6. Heck...some of the best money I've spent ever! Where else can I spout off on multiple topics I know damn little about and not get kicked out?   Seriously, if I can do it more of you guys can. I'm old, retired with a very low fixed income, and a very gullible wife.   I managed to scrounge up the cash for a lifetime membership when David first offered it to us. I'm not sorry I did.   I get good advice, good times, meet interesting people(mostly...lol), and good friends.   Do it!

  7. Pretty sure koko has dined on her own feces at one or several points in her life. At least picked some nuts or berries out to save for later. Why do we care what a monkey thinks anyway? If she was so smart she wouldn't be in a cage doing parlor tricks for bananas. Stupid monkey.

  10.   And this is how I explain it to people on the fence.  I honestly don't have an issue with background checks.  I know that may make me unpopular, but if there was a quick and easy way to do background checks during private sales, I don't see there being a negative to that.  However, since the government could screw up a wet dream, we know it wouldn't be quick and easy.  In the end, we'd get screwed for sure, because whatever they set up will be inefficient, and likely add costs onto us.   While added ass pain is enough for me to be against it, the main problem I have is this being part of the master plan for registration and confiscation; and this is how I explain it.  They can't create a law which makes private transfers illegal and be able to enforce it; at all.  It would be impossible.  What would end up happening is the law would pass, and then the liberals would argue that it isn't enforceable, and the only way to enforce it would be a national gun registration.  By that point it would already be too late.  Once a law is made, there is no going back, and liberals would be able to sell a national registration at that point.  So no, the libs can shove it on this one.  I don't trust them because they lie, and have already made their plans very clear.  They don't care about gun crime; they care about disarming those who are not responsible for gun crime.  There is no other logical conclusion for their rhetoric.

  13. I think we might just be the luckiest idiots in the world. She's met our whole pack. We have a hound/terrier mix who's about 4 months younger than her, they've been outside running forever. We had to force a time out. She came back in, everyone seems to get along really well and now she's back outside running with Odie. Max, our labaweiner, also joined them. It sounds like cattle running. I think it's safe to say we now have 8 dogs. WTF. From now on please hide all free dogs somewhere on here I will never look.

  14. The snag free direction needs to be on the DRAW, not on the reholster direction. The new Honor Guard pistols have got an edge here, where they should be. This would help if you had to rack using a table edge, etc.

  15. Same here Dusty. TGO is a solid community and made even a transplant feel right at home. Most important I felt like while I was in TN and part of TGO in many ways I never walked alone. Solid community, if you're debating membership, give it a shot for 6 months and see if it makes sense for ya, if you're skirting the vendor status, shame on you. TGO is a labor of love for a much smaller percentage of folks than the ones what enjoy the benefits and privileges, all they ask is a pay to play paltry sum and as mentioned I can't think of cheaper, nonetheless more effective local advertising. I've sat through a lot of advertising schpeals and not a single entity out there could offer a more direct line to potentially interested, like minded, LOCAL individuals at 5x the rate David asks. Honestly not even at double that. And most of the ones that where 1/2 as effective wanted 5-10x PER MONTH.

  16. Will I Live to see 80? Here's something to think about. I recently picked a new primary care doctor. After two visits and exhaustive Lab tests, He said I was doing fairly well for my age. A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him, 'Do you think I'll live to be 80?' He asked, 'Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer, wine or hard liquor?' 'Oh no,' I replied. 'I'm not doing drugs, either!' Then He asked, 'Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?' 'I said, 'Not much... My former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!' 'Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, boating, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?' 'No, I don't,' I said. He asked, 'Do you gamble, drive motor-cycles, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?' 'No,' I said... He looked at me and said,.. 'Then, why do you even give a shit?'

I didn't know could have a custom title (I'll have to look at this). I also need to spend some time in the blog section too. Thanks to all that make TGO great

It actually looks and feels like a much better quality knife than some of those cheapo flee market Chinese knives. Anyway it was only $14, I like the belt clip, right now it's razor sharp. 25. I hope this Ruger American pistol ends up being an awesomely reliable gun. I hope it gives Glock some competition among the people who want an all American gun.  Right now , in my opinon , it's hard to find much American things that run reliabily , for instance cars and truck . That's why I buy Japanese cars and trucks. So I hope this American Pistol turns out to be the most awesome thing since Glock made the 17 back in the 80's. I am a big Glock and Ruger fan but lots of people kind of turn their heads on Ruger when they hear of one running very well or shooting great and so on . Some people just dont seem to think they can do what S&W , H&K , Berettea ,or GLock can do . I beleive they can and I sure hope this turns out great .  This is really funny , cause when I first seen this pistol a few days ago , I thought it looked terrible , but it seems to be growing on me now. I got burned by buying a brand new "just released" pistol by CZ when the P-07 came out and it was a "dud" , but I am really aiming to try this new Ruger American pistol.

  26. For what it's worth, I've owned both and prefer the shield. It's much thinner and carries better (for me). Both are excellent and I shoot both very well. Reliability is great on both -  but for the size, weight and bulk difference the Shield is my choice.    Also capacity difference is minimal as I bought two of these mag-guts kits to increase my mag capacity to 8+1 and 9 +1   http://magguts.com/shop/smith-wesson/smith-wesson-shield

  30.   I like the way you think.   I always thought about 50-100 acres with a fair sized hill on it so I could build into the earth and take advantage of all the passive heating/cooling systems available.   Have an A-frame exposed front with a good sized balcony to oversee the property from.   Well, that hasn't happened, so I'm still here till I win a buttload of money.

  35. Everyone has made great points here. Registering anyone on a list could possibly lead to more pandering to the left. Not the best path possibly. There is a need for better laws against these scums of the earth though. I feel any person that can harm an innocent animal for any sort of pleasure or financial gain is about as low as it gets. As far as tax dollars go I would rather fund some furtherance of their judicial punishment than any more ridiculous sports or tourist attractions in the state. I know it's not the highest on most everyone's crime list but just remember anyone abusing a dog, cat, iguana, horse, cow, chicken, mule, bird, pig, goat, hamster, fish, or any other furry, gilled, hopping, flying, burrowing creature is a sick SOB!!!

  37. Greetings new friends. I'm Mike and I just signed up this morning.  I'm looking forward to hanging out here with y'all and learning  all I can and also contributing when I have something worth sharing.  I moved up here from FLA a couple of years ago and the most important thing I can say about that is I wish I'd gotten up here sooner.     Terribly disturbed by all the recent attacks and feel compelled to be more involved in my family's safety.   Taking the permit course in a couple of weeks.   I have a newly purchased Glock 43 that I plan to carry concealed and a Colt Combat Commander for home defense.

  46. I'll be selling a gun in February.  I will be selling it for more than what I paid for it, which means I will be making a profit.  If Congress wants to pass such a law preventing that, let them.  I'll follow that law, though I may disagree with it, and follow up at the ballot box to undo such a law.  If the POTUS issues an executive order which makes something illegal which was previously legal, I will go out of my way to defy that order.

Liberty can't be cut out at once but small parts, over time, peice by peice until we are left with.....nothing. Doesn't seem like squat to us in TN.
