  1. No one has to stay on the street in Nashville. Plenty do. There are a lot of reasons for that. Over 180 churches participate in Room In the Inn, feeding and housing the homeless in their churches overnight. We do it once a week, and I stay overnight about once a month. It will change how you think about things when you sit down and share a meal with these folks. My kids go with me, make beds, serve food, and eat with our guests. There are some great advocacy organizations here in middle Tennessee. We really struggle with affordable housing. But programs like RITI make it a lot more tolerable. If anyone is ever interested in seeing what it’s about, if you’re interested in staying overnight, or think your church might want to be involved, shoot me a note. It will change you. If you’re interested in donating/getting involved, here are some great organizations: Room in the Inn - overnight shelter and a variety of services Nashville Rescue Mission Open Table - advocacy and helping get people housed Safe Haven - our only family shelter

  2. For folks choosing to live in a ‘homeless camp’ - by and large - they’re there by choice - a lot of mentalities and conditions contribute to that. But, at least in middle Tennessee, if they’re staying in a camp as opposed to taking advantage of some of the resources available, they’re in a place that’s known to authorities and aid workers, they’re trying to stay out of trouble, and they’re not particularly interested in doing something else (at least right now.) Their survival skills are probably more well developed than most of ours ever will be. Couple that with really not welcoming unknown outsiders into their community, and you would probably feel that your time was wasted. That’s not to discourage you from getting involved. There are a ton of places to plug in your desire to help in ways that really are meaningful. Happy to help you find one if you like.

  3. Walther Arms in Fort Smith are some fine folks to deal with. I've sent two of mine in for warranty work. The Interarms/Ranger PPK had a safety lever issue and the S&W PPK/s had never had the recall done on it. Both times the people I spoke with on the phone were very friendly and extremely helpful. They paid shipping both ways, repairs were done very well and the gun was back in my hands in eight days. It doesn't matter exactly who made your Walther, they will honor the warranty, fix it right, get it back quickly and all at no cost to you. Some of the best customer service in the industry.

  4. I forgot to mention above that here in the middle Tennessee area, Operation Stand Down Is an amazing organization focused on helping veterans transition back. A big focus of their operation focuses on housing. If you’re looking for a place to volunteer or give - these guys do great work.

  5. Apparently y'all have no appreciation for the classics. How sad for you. I happen to be quite fond of the Walther PP series pistols. They're still around after almost 90 years for a simple reason. They work.

  6. Actually, I really don't have much interest in an AR in this caliber. I'm just not much of an AR guy. What I'm waiting for is a more or less standard, straight stocked, semi-auto in 350. I'm thinking Ruger's Mini-14 would be ideal. That is IF its accurate. Something that the Mini-14 is noted for lacking. If it can't regularly do 1" or less at 100 yards, I wouldn't be interested. A handy trapper length lever action would be nice too. I'll just wait a while and see where the 350 lands.

  7. I agree with you Sir. With my current barrel, (8.5", 5.56 NATO chamber, 1:7 twist) the 55 grain has a pattern of 2" to 3" groupings at 25 yards. To me that is terrible. I found a barrel that I am considering to replace this one, it is a .223 Wylde barrel and I believe that it will preform much better. I could use heavier bullets for the 1:7 barrel, but they aren't as cheap as 55 grain. I am also thinking that the ejection at 2 o'clock to 2:30 issue that I am having may also be due to the type of gas block I used. I used a Superlative Arms Adjustable Gas block. My AR-10 had cycling issues with a similar one and when I swapped it out with a Standard Gas Block, the issue resolved and the rifle functions perfectly now. Superlative Arms' Adjustable Gas Blocks are designed with a port vent to "vent excess gas" from the system. In the case of my AR-10 it was venting too much gas and was causing short stroking. With my AR-15 Pistol, it may be allowing too much, not sure. But either way, I ordered a new adjustable gas block that is a closed system. We'll see how this works.

  8. S.A. XD9 9mm a time tested 9mm handgun for $299 at PSA . There's no way I'd blow any money on a Hi-Point when I could save a little more and get this. https://palmettostatearmory.com/springfield-xd-defenders-series-9mm-3-pistol-black-xdd9801hc.html

  9. I've been around the homeless in Nashville for 20 years. They don't want help. All they want is a handout so they can get beer or mouthwash. I depends on how much money they have that day. You're not going to make them change. I love stepping on hypodermic needles on my way to get my job done.

  10. Hitting deer with a 35 Remington works as well as the 350. If flat wall AR mags get launched by like Pro Mag or some one like that, maybe this will get legs.

  12. @ShaggyRS6 Try looking around for a used Gheenoe. I'm currently in the build phase of an old Classic custom I'm rigging purely as a flats boat. They can be picked up for around a grand, on a trailer & on a 13' or 15'4" highsider a 5-10hp outboard will get you around 20mph. They're ridiculously stable too, for a small skiff.

  13. This is not some passion I have to help humanity. The picture the lady painted was of a bunch of people lying face down in the mud, being eaten by rats and raccoons and I was willing to look further into it but wasn't about to go down there with just her. The reason for the post here and elsewhere was to recruit a suitable sized contingent to safely visit their compound and see the conditions first hand. Obviously, from the replies and the pics, the lady is painting the wrong picture and others have already gone ahead of me into these camps. The pic above shows organizational command structure and resources. They don't need me.

  15. I had that thought too. If someone with a real R&D budget were to buy the rights and begin manufacture, what could we possibly see come from it.

  16. I don't even think they have the money to ship them back. As for fixing, them, they don't have parts because they didn't pay their supplier. And I agree. I hate to see them go out.

  17. Sounds a bit like the 300 blackout, which now has dedicated mags.

  18. Well, I found the answer to one question and the AR guys ain't gonna like it. The 350 Legend will NOT work in standard 5.56 AR mags. Apparently there are some small ridges inside the mag at the cartridge neck that have to be removed in order for the straight walled case to fit and feed properly. Check at about the 3:15 mark. CMMG .350 legend AR But still. its an easy caliber change.

  19. I don't know how it changes anything. I do know for the first couple hundred rounds the slide would not close completely with the zev trigger but would with the stock trigger. Useless information I know. It works fine with both now.

  21. Neat idea and I’m sure some will bite but I’ll stick with good old USGI ammo cans. A .30 can will hold 1000 rounds of 9mm if you’re the type of heathen that dumps ammo out of their boxes, about 600 of 5.56.

  22. Mental illness and/or drug abuse are the main issues that plague most homeless people. I am not equipped to help people deal with either. I understand The Nashville Rescue Mission is a worthy cause to donate and/or volunteer if one is so inclined. https://nashvillerescuemission.org/

  23. Ehunt...what groupings are you getting? and at what distance? You might wanna go with a wylde chamber 1 in 8 if your wanting better accuracy with the 55's without losing too much range for the heavy rounds...a short barrel me personally I prefer the 1 in 7 because i'd rather use heavy bullets at closer ranges but that's just me...course I just shoot paper so it don't matter too much either way.

  27. Since you mention .380, it might be worth a moment to look at the S&W Shield 380EZ. Maybe a bit bigger than your looking for, but on the easier side to manipulate the slide.

  31. I think it was just getting warmed up to blow up. That barrel was getting quite red at the end. Same for the part of the gas cylinder (or gas regulator, @173rdABN would know which one for sure) we could see. The SAW was actually one of my favorite weapons from my time in, but putting a suppressor on it makes zero sense to me. Ditto with putting that many rounds through it continuously. Wasn't meant for either at all.

  32. @Grand Torino well gentlemen I've tried to come up with words but there are none. Let's just say GT smashed one into the atmosphere. All I can say is thank you GT once again. Ill just let the pictures talk.

  33. I haven't bought anything from them in some time, since they purchased the last of the Burns M39's in fact. My limited dealings with them have all been good, however I always knew I was buying surplus milsurps and didn't expect pristine rifles. In fact, on several occasions I specifically requested wartime stocks, as the bumps and bruises acquired through the ages have always had greater appeal to me ...

  34. My friend Ryan is from OH. His response to that limitation is to use a .450 Bushmaster for deer. It’s a completely stupid rule.
