  1. If you like a SBR, whats not to love about a handy 6.5 lb mini sized gun that can still reach out fairly well in a mid cal. With an Enhanced permit, this is a no brainer in the cool toy category. The barrel is 10.5 SS Wylde chambered from Bear Creek Armory. Originaly, I thought you might loose too much velocity and thought a 12" might be best but the 10.5 caught my eye at just over 100 bucks and it only looses about 200 fps from a 16' barrel. The $47 handguard is from Wish and I really like it. One thing that is a super tabo for me is a stock that is not rock solid. This SBM4 unit is a slip on and it would have needed a lot of tape on a round pistol spring tube to come close to being non movable. The fix was to put an old fixed stock tube (no position holes) in the lathe and turn the bottom rib down to make it only about 1/8th high on the tube body. Also, you can see I milled a rectangular hole in the bottom of the brace. This hole matches a higher part of the tube rib that pops up threw that hard rubber hole I milled. Now this fixed SBM4 brace is like welded to the tube. The SBM4 brace does infact have a very comfy wide cheek surface for those that would tempt ones luck and not be seen by a federally as you might shoulder a quick shot. The little guns balance point is at the forward portion of the mag well. Needless to say, it swings up and points exceptionally well with the pop up sights. I like this configuration so much, I started putting parts together for a copy of this one but it will run a finned Thompson SMG barrel inside the same hand guard and feed off grease gun mags. That should be a fun project.

  2. This type thing mostly devalues a vehicle. If I see a wad of wires hanging from under the dash or a lift kit, I’m out. BubbA ain’t likely to improve upon the performance designed by actual mechanical engineers.

  3. Its credited as a Kit Carson Design (of Vine Grove, KY) CRKT's website has a nice bio on the designer. Side note, I just did a price check, this is a $75 knife. How long it holds a good edge without abuse is a question mark due to the quality of the steel. The overall construction is substantial and can serve as a very effective striking weapon or tool for glass breaking. I initially thought the titanium panels were gimicky; close inspection today reveals virtually no scratches and the finish is even with no discoloration. Nice surprise since I've carried it daily and dropped it occasionally for 10 years.

  4. It was finally time to get a second sharpening on my CRKT M16-14T Last time was 10 years ago at an RK Show. Decided to give @willis68 a try, others have reported quality work. This blade needed it, trust me. Contacted through PM, was given turn time (extended in my case, Mr. 68 was heading off shore) Completed within promised window and contacted via email. During this exchange, I asked about the quality of this particular steel; not great and and substandard bevel on factory edge, especially at the serrations. In my case, it was a gift and I have sentimental attachment. It's sharp, I wish I had thought of before and after pics. When I am ready to upgrade, @willis68 will be my first stop to shop and buy. Thanks for the great quality of service!

  5. Oh I completely agree. I'm not exaggerating when I say I plan to keep this truck forever. I've spent over $10k building it to my specifications. I had no intentions of selling to Carvana. I just wanted to see what they offered. Obligatory truck pics.

  6. This argument doesn’t sound any less ridiculous in this context than when the Bloomberg shills try to use it to claim that the 2A only covers muskets. If you have to jump through hoops and ask for government permission to exercise a right, it isn’t a right.

  7. Sounds like a good reason to keep it. There’s a hard truth so many folks never seem to understand. (Not saying that’s you.) Aftermarket upgrades to vehicles like engine or suspension mods result in near zero ROI when you go to sell the vehicle. If you’re handy with a wrench it’s almost always a better idea to return the vehicle to stock and sell the parts to someone who is actually looking for them.

  8. Really? Where is that in the Constitution? I seem to recall lots of pictures/paintings of the period, and not a one of them included a HCP or similar.

  9. Yep, I have a 2003 F-150 and a 2004 Grand Marquis. Both are in very good to excellent condition because I take good care of them. Both fit my needs perfectly. Frankly, I don't care much for the newer vehicles. Way too much electronic BS that's just waiting to break and damned expensive to fix. Two years ago the truck had a head go bad. I seriously considered either selling or trading it as it would be an expensive fix. Got to looking at newer trucks and didn't care much for them. So I sold a few guns and fixed my truck. I'm gonna drive these two until the wheels fall off. And then I'm gonna slap 'em back on and drive 'em some more.

  10. My Best Gun Buddy has received 2 of GT's knives, the Indian Feather and a Nessmuk. We have a trip to France (re-scheduled 2x in 2020) planned for 2021 and my thought, get him another knife. When you're best friends for 35 years, you seek unique gifts. Discovered from The Truth about Knives the laguiole is the national knife of France. And weapons are prohibited, though 1 in every 3 Frenchmen have a laguiole in his pocket. However, the supposed etiquette of gifting a knife is to "sell it" to the recipient for the smallest denomination of the local currency. Historically, a gift of a knife was not a friendly message Best Gun Buddy owes me $.02

  12. Interesting thread, had to remove a visitor from the chicken coop earlier this week, and I almost posted b/c I couldn't ID it. Chicken snake was what my neighbor called it. We let it go down the end of the street (1/2 mile away, wooded preserve).

  13. That Cash for Clunkers always pissed me off. Not because they gave people cash, but because the "clunkers" has to be rendered inoperable by something like putting liquid glass in the engine and running it a few minutes to destroy the engine. Then they had to be crushed. Lots and lots of good spare parts went down the tube. Now try finding a decent size junk yard with a large stock of anything in the last 20 years is a wild goose chase. On top of that a lot of the "clunkers" that ended up coming in were not the low gas mileage units they wanted off the road. Or they were running just enough to get on the lot instead of to the scrap yard. Basically the program did little except to give the car industry sales and feed the steel scrap to China.

  14. On Monday, Sept 21, we will be milling and paving at the intersection of SR25 and US231 (Payne’s Store) from 8:30am till 3pm. There will be traffic delays. Please seek an alternate route or else have some patience. Please pass this along to friends and relatives. Thanks.

  15. This case is worth watching as it hits on some things that not many involved in firearms social media are likely to be innocent of themselves. Jake Gardner, a white bar owner in Nebraska, has been indicted by an Omaha, NE grand jury for killing James Scurlock, a young black man during a BLM protest in June of 2020. The grand jury determined on Tuesday that Jake Gardner, 38, will face four charges including manslaughter, attempted first-degree assault, use of a firearm, and terror threats. Part of the justification from the grand jury came from things that Gardner had posted on his own Facebook wall prior to ever coming into contact with the victim. "There was evidence that was gathered and presented to the grand jury about activity that Jake Gardner was engaged in prior to even coming in contact with James Scurlock," said Special Prosecutor Frederick Franklin. "Evidence to reasonably be construed as an intent to use a firearm for purposes of killing someone," he continued. "You will want to know what it is, and I can't tell you about it. But what I can tell you is that that evidence comes primarily from Jake Gardner himself." Reportedly Gardner had shared on social media FBI statistics and a screenshot of the President saying “When the looting starts, the shooting starts”. Again, this before he ever encountered Scurlock. As we often remind people here on TGO, the Internet has a very long and indelible memory. We advise that you not say anything here that you wouldn't want read back to you in court. 18. I want folks to be responsible with firearms as well. I don’t want the government to be able to arbitrarily decide what that looks like. Just the same as with speech. Folks are responsible for their actions with a firearm or their speech. Prior restraint by the government is an abomination and anathema to liberty and the individual’s rights.

  19. Met a lot of people who don't understand that. Looked at a cheap car once where the guy wanted to slap $1500 extra on a $3000 car because of the stereo he had installed. In fact sometimes, I would pay LESS for something with 'upgrades' because I have no idea if they were installed right or maybe in order to cover up issues.Kinda like the guys used to use diamond plate to cover all the rust on jeeps.

  20. My late brother-in-law was a close friend of Kit, and a big fan of Kit's designs and knives. Although I never got to meet Kit in person, I do have one of his knives that was given to me by Tad. Don't ask me which one. I don't have a clue at the moment. lol It's put away and I don't really want to go dig it out. Maybe sometime and I'll put a pic out on it.

Thanks to Willis for putting a new edge on the blade after I did the acid and stonewash. It is very sharp.

  23. There is a huge difference in the right to own firearms and carrying a firearm in the midst of the general public. Being able to talk does not make one a public speaker. Same difference in my book.

  24. True...but factually and historically at the time that the Constitution was written all able bodied males actually DID train with their arms for militia duty. The militias actually drilled and trained. The garbage that most people were taught in history class is that the militias of the British colonies were a bunch of bumbling hayseed hicks that couldn't line up and march down the road without falling off into a ditch. That is part of the "Myth of the Revolution" that a bunch of untrained farmers, on their own, armed with rifles, beat the mightiest military in the world. Nice story to tell the kids but it is not exactly true. In fact the "militia system" in the colonies was well established and had been around for about 150 years when the Revolution happened and those state militias had a fair amount of actual combat experience fighting Indians and the French and Spanish. Who here is familiar with King William's War? King Phillip's War? Queen Anne's War? War of Jenkin's Ear? Yamassee War? Tuscarora War? Anglo Cherokee War? Seven Years War ? Lord Dunmore's War? Anyone? ALL of those took place East of the Mississippi between about 1650 and 1775. Also add in an innumerable number of Indian raids. There was A LOT of fighting that the state and town militias engaged in before the Revolution . And they actually trained. Now their training was not as often or as intense as the British regulars and they were not held to the same fanatical level of discipline (and the British regulars held the militias in disdain due to that) but make no mistake about the fact that from the 1600s through when the Constitution was written able bodied males of military age did receive training with their firearm and got follow on training and drilling as part of their militia duty. The concept of gun ownership devoid of any and all responsibility to society was a foreign concept to people at that time.

  28. I Have been doing a lot of research on HAM radio as of late. I’m going to be getting my license in the not too distant future. Get a programming cable and download the Chirp software(free) so you can program your units. Find out what channels the local emergency services use, assuming they aren’t already on digital trunk systems, and program those in if you want to listen to them. Also find out what channels the civilian emergency folks in the area use so you can utilize them in case of dire emergency. Regardless of how you program them, even if you program them for FRS or MURS channels, it is illegal for you to hit the transmit button without a license. They transmit at a power level you are required to have a license to operate.

  30. I think it must depend on the region. The rumor was that 20% of Toyota dealerships have zero Tacomas on the lot. I doubt the guys were lying about the Carvana offers but who knows. I spoke to one guy in Knoxville that traded in his Tacoma on a new 4Runner and he said the amount they offered him for his truck was ridiculous. I put my 2002 Tundra into Carvana and they only offered me $2k I've put $3k into the suspension alone.
