Well when you say "they" I assume you mean the government. I grew up in a small village on the southern island and I remember seeing choppers and Soldiers show up when we had a lahar, which is basically a major mountainside landslide. That was a major factor of me joining the Army when I came me of age after being adopted and brought to the US. The Filipinos have been an ally to the US and the bond formed from WWII is still strong within the civilians. I hope that the money and donations make it to the people in need instead of the crooked politicians and government officials. A nuclear powered A/C carrier and support vessels is already on the way to help - I know actions like these is what shows the reason a lot of people wear the uniform with pride.7 points

That's what really caught my attention. I wondered what McDonalds had to do with long guns. lol I quit going to McDonalds years ago, their "food" sucks and is of the worst quality. I simply refuse to put it in my body.4 points

They better hope that when I get hit, I go down and stay down. Otherwise somebody is gonna have a really, really bad day. And all I can say is good luck. Ive been punched in the head and face more than I care to think about, and so far Ive never actually been knocked out. Maybe they will try me and it'll be the same pricks who broke in my truck a few weeks back. My sledge hammer could use a workout Tapatalk ate my spelling.4 points

i ask for nothing, the tradition of extorting gifts from family should end when one becomes self sufficient. If someone wants to give a heartfelt gift that is fine. But I'd never ask, and always encourage nothing be given to me. Christmas is about Santa and little kids.3 points

If in your daily travels you get in a shoot-out with someone wearing body armor; caliber is probably not going to play a part in how things end.3 points

Only a few things I really want this year.... Eotech for the AR- The dog is buying that for me. ESEE 5- Dog's buying that too, I'm pretty sure he already ordered it. Really good bottle of Bourbon for Christmas Eve- Dog again. I'm sure he'll pick up at least a couple 5ths, that's how he rolls.3 points

They would never attack someone like me or you. They're looking for the oblivious teacher, the homeless guy, or the girl walking alone. That's why they call the game "Knockout" and not "Hit a hillbilly then get your ass stomped." These are the worst examples of humans, they will reap what they sow.3 points

I don't drink diet soda, light beer or anything less filling because it doesn't "taste great"! I man-up and go for the gusto! Let me get the ball rolling and say, "I wish they made a .46" Let the caliber wars begin all over again! Anyone want a cold non diet beer with their popcorn or extra butter / salt?2 points

Pretty lame but calling a boycott over what looks like a screw up by a single individual in a chain that hires many tens of thousands of bottom of the barrel type employees is possibly a drastic over-reaction to this? I mean, they made the offer and probably gave away thousands of bucks worth of burgers to vets across the country. ONE of em did not get his burger due to a screw up. I can't get mad at the whole chain over THAT. They did not have to give away anything at all...2 points

I'd be very hesitant about walking around with a long gun in the opening hours of a disaster, even a large scale one. At the beginning there will probably still be some semblance of law and order, and I'd rather not draw that kind of attention to myself. For me the most likely situation would be having to get from my office in an urban area to home in a rural one across 35 miles and a couple rivers or creeks. Rather than the weight and attention of a long gun, better to have a concealable sidearm, water, CASH (sorry no one's going to be bartering copper rounds and fish hooks at this point), good shoes, and protection from the elements. Another issue that I think about, probably best for a new thread, is communication. Are your kids in school? Spouse working on the other side of town? What if the phones are down? How do you link up? This is something to which I've given some thought but haven't really come up with a plan.2 points

I have always boiled the head. If you do, make sure you wrap the bottoms of the antlers with aluminum foil so they do not get discolored. My wife would not let me do this in the house or use any of her pans. I went to Goodwill and found a pot for $5. I used my turkey fryer base and the goodwill pot and did it on the patio. Worked great.2 points

Yeah, they really learned their lesson by reducing an occupational force and then getting hit with what amounts to a 3 hour tornado with 50 foot high swells that sucked entire islands back into the ocean. Even though they're a 3rd world country, they still offered assistance after Katrina hit us. That says a lot about the culture, and I think they deserve the same courtesy from us.2 points

Glock 22 and keltec sub2000 in the bag. G23 or 27 as ccw. 6 or more extra high capacity magazines. This will likely be my first setup. Eventually, I will have an AR Pistol in 300blk for this purpose with about 6 loaded magazines and a few ammo pouches to put on a belt in a bad situation that I need to hurry home through. So here is the update. I had some email communication with a fellow in Spike's customer service department. After a couple of delays, he sent me a return label and RMA number. I sent the complete upper with BCG, copies of email correspondence including that associated with the previous RMA, photos of the malfunction posted here, and explanation of what I had tried to fix the problem including types of mags, ammo, etc. Two days later, I received an email from the customer service rep stating that he hand-carried the upper to their armorer who, upon reading the correspondence, built a complete new upper for me and installed my LWRC quad-rail on the new upper. I received the shipment today and it included 7 fired casings that do not have the scratches/gouges on them like the ones I got in the old upper receiver. I asked if they knew what the problem was, they said they didn't bother to do any sort of diagnostics. I am very confident that the feed ramps on the other barrel extension were not machined properly because these look much more flared than on the previous upper. They also tossed in a couple of decals and a American flag velcro patch, which was nice. The only problem is that they didn't swap out the engraved dust cover I had on the previous upper, but that is a very minor problem and I'll take credit for that because I didn't specify it was installed on the upper I returned. Hopefully I'll be able take it out and shoot it this weekend to confirm it works properly. I'm glad to see that Spike's has finally tried to make things right. I'll give a range report soon.2 points

I have been eye balling this beastie for awhile now - But since I am unable to purchase anything without getting all the available info on something....I pose this question to ya'll. Has anyone owned one of these? Are they as amazing as they seem? Do they hold up and cycle any ammo thrown into it? How is the durability? Can they handle "hot" loads? I would appreciate any helpful intel presented on this tasty little gem. Gracias (that is spanish for ...uhm........arigato)1 point

My wife and I were in Applebee's in Knoxville and they were not checking any ID's. A lot of people coming in where uniform parts or a hat. Made us wonder how many were not veterans and were just there to get a free meal. They know me well enough to know that I am a veteran. We order the say thing every time we go in so I took the savings and gave a nice tip to the waitress. Nothing like getting a 50% tip. My wife also coined a saying I will use from now on. For us Veteran's Day will not be referred to as "National Story Telling Day".1 point

I use an ILBE pack for the survival classes I'm pulling instructor duty on, and as my get home bag. I can throw my AR, chest rig, and clothes in one of my spare contractor bags, tie them to my ILBE and float across using that method. Works great to keep everything dry, and by stripping, you have dry clothes for the whole hike. If your not doing this, you need to look into it. Basically just stick an open contractor bag in your get home bag, then pack everything inside it. Tie off tightly, and instant floatation device.1 point

Since you mentioned it would be accompanied by a .45 handgun, a Kriss carbine and a Glock .45 would be perfect IMO. Same ammo AND same magazines...1 point

I don't think it hurts to ask "Is that the best you can do on that?" I do it for nearly every large purchase. If the seller says no, that doesn't mean we don't do business, but if he says yes, it makes the business sweeter. I grew up horsetrading. When both parties walk away feeling they got the better deal, it is a good day all around.1 point

I'm Irish. I've got a hard freaking head. Little SOBs better bring a 2x4 or a wrench or something. That's some really sick stuff there. When we were kids, not even that long ago for me mind you, we used to fight EACH OTHER!! Going up to some random person and cracking their head open? It's just kind of a bitch move all the way around. I doubt you see less than 3 at a time doing this, they need an 8 person posse just to sucker punch someone. And for everyone out there packing heat, now you know it's only a game. Next time someone out of a group of people clocks you one out of nowhere, make sure to remember they don't want to hurt you, it's only a game. Defending yourself would be racist.1 point

Dave, I think that is a slippery slope your traveling down with the recorder. Not tremendously different from the leftest argument that carrying a gun means your seeking confrontation. Personally i don't see the need for me to carry a recorder, but i can understand why some feel that it is in there best interest to record conversations with LE. I wish i could say that there are no dishonest police officers, but we both know that that is not the case. Additionally it assists in preventing the he said she said that can come from encounters with non LE, like the security guard in this case. Again, i agree that i dont find it personally necessary, but it is not a guaranteed indicator that someone is seeking confrontation either.1 point

Whether I have something to hide or not is immaterial to the discussion. I will reveal what I choose, when I choose to and in the manner I choose as long as the encounter remains consensual. I don't record my casual conversations with my cop friends & acquaintances just because they are cops. I will record any "professional" encounter with an officer not because I don't trust cops but because I don't trust people and a badge isn't a magic talisman of moral uprightness.1 point

That is for the North (Camp Perry) and South (Anniston, AL) Stores that are walkin. With several thousand mail orders, its hard to keep the stores stocked so they are now opening on Thursday-Sat instead of Wed-Sat. The operation of the shops are still going strong trying to catch up with all of the unfilled mail orders for rifles, ammo and other items. The rifles all require inspection, repair and grading and mail order demand has exceeded the amount of rifles on hand that the staff can make ready for sale at the stores. I was at Anniston two weeks ago. The store didn't have near the stock that it had this time last year, but that was before the latest Obama Induced Panic. The shops were as full as ever with rifles. In the store I did come across a nice service grade Jan 1942 Springfield M1D Sniper. It found its way to Tennessee. :dirty:1 point
