Joy, Pain, Sweetness, Sorrow, Silliness, Stress, Laughter, Goodness , Hope, and Peace that can come with this mysterious season....along with the children's incredible, irrepressible wonder and excitement at the coming Christmas morn. To each and every one that makes up TGO, a Merry Christmas from our family to you and yours. Whatever of those experiences listed above fills your season, know that you are loved. - Here's hoping you can see at least one smile like I've seen on my kids' faces tonight. So as my wife and I (more her) work as Santa's elves one more time on this Silent Night, we wish a whole and lasting peace for each of you. Merry Christmas.5 points

Try to keep this to the point if I can. I am the shipping supervisor at my company and the receiving supervisor is a good friend of mine. I took him to a gun show a couple of years ago and helped him pick out his first pistol ever, a Sig 2022. I then took him to pick up his first rifle, a Savage .308 bolt action. I then got them (he and his wife) informed on the carry permit procedure and the responsibility that comes with it. They both took the class last year and love going shooting with me. Well, some of you know I got my new Remington 870 for Christmas and he was all excited about it, and explained that he can't wait to get one but doesn't have the extra cash for it right now. His wife works in the office at the same company and I emailed her to see if she'd picked out his Christmas present yet. She said "No, and let me guess, YOU have an idea!" HA HA Well it took some searching because a lot of people were out of stock because of Christmas buying, and I had to stay in her price range. But I found a Mossberg Maverick Home Defense 12 gauge with 20" barrel for $239 at Specialty Arms in LaVergne. Steve held one for her yesterday till she got off at 4:30 and she went to get it. She pulled in at work after buying it to let me see it before she took it home and surprised him with it. Needless to say, he was NOT expecting that! I bought him a target slaying starter kit (ammo) to get him started. I won't lie, every time he gets his new first anything firearms related and he's eager to learn more about them, I get as excited as if it was for me. Anyway, I thought I'd share their growth and the cool story. It's really amazing to see people that want to learn and be responsible change with each trip to the range. Hell, we were all at that beginner stage at one time and I think it's important to share and pass responsible gun ownership on to people who will respect it!4 points

We've certainly had worse presidents. I honestly believe W loved this country. Can't say the same for the current dictator occupying the white house.2 points

I've avoided commenting but found a response that's fitting. I didn't go through the whole thread so hopefully this isn't a 205. I'm sure you guys are just as disgusted with the liberal agenda as I am. Merry Christmas. Ours: Like my dad did with my family when I lived at home, later this evening, sitting by the candle light, hot cocoa and blankets, I will read from the Bible the Christmas story Matthew 1:18-25, Luke 2:1-20, then I will close with John 3:16. We then will tuck the kids in for bed, then wrap presents, assemble toys, and go to bed around 2am. We will then get up around 6am, and have a blast. One of our quirky traditions we do is the making of the Christmas cookies and goodies in the days before Christmas, my young boys (8, 7, 3, and our 2 month old) with their Christmas green aprons on help their mother roll dough, cut cookies, and really make messes. Its quirky, but I love it! What is yours?2 points

Just got an email this morning saying my delivery was delayed and I needed to fill out a form. It came from Walmart Delivery. Not Walmart but it looks kind of official. I haven't ordered anything so I'm sure it's a phishing scam. Watch out for scammers this holiday.2 points

I'm thinking I need a .32ACP rifle but would like to look at rifles or carbines, semi, single or whatever action. Right now I am not interested in the cartridge conversions but I may go that route. Anyone with experience with a .32ACP long gun or even the cartridge conversions. I'm thinking reloadable subsonics for plinking, small game hunting and suppressed. Thanks, Craig in Clarksville1 point

Back about 15 years ago I was up on Christmas Eve putting together toys. I had a great little dog, Trixie, Terrier mix, about 15 pounds, who always watched whatever I was doing. To help me get things together I required the help of some alcoholic stimulus so I fixed a Tequila Sunrise. This is a drink that consists of about 50% tequila. Pretty stout. As I sat in the floor putting together a bike or something I reached for my drink and discovered it was empty. So I fixed another. A few minutes later it was empty again so I made another. This time as soon as I sat it down I felt a fuzzy dog muzzle against my hand and I saw Trixie stick her head in the glass and start drinking. Whoa! She was drinking more of it than I was. I put it up out of her reach, sat up all night to watch her. She made it fine. She slept well that night. I didn't. Merry Christmas all!!! And God bless. Mr. Bill.1 point

Tonight was tortilla soup, homemade. A small glass of Crown XO before I finally bed down. Tomorrow breakfast will be fried venison backstrip, eggs, biscuits, and gravy. Dinner will be whatever, probably light sandwiches. Supper will be homemade Tamales, rice, beans, and guacamole salad.1 point

Another good one from the DB: http://www.duffelblog.com/2013/12/mikhail-kalashnikov-dead/ MOSCOW — Russia has announced funeral arrangements for Lt. Gen. Mikhail T. Kalashnikov, inventor of the AK-47 assault rifle. “Comrade Kalashnikov will be buried in a pit of mud with full military honors,†said General-Major Saiga Molot, a spokesman for the Russian army. “After a week, we will exhume his body, clean it off, and put him back to work. We expect that there shall be no issue with his functions.†Kalashnikov died of complications from a liver transplant operation. The liver Kalashnikov received was allegedly Romanian, but turned out to be a substandard Albanian version. “It was a successful substitution, but it made him inaccurate and prone to blockage,†said his son, Victor. While praised for his simple operation and ruggedness, Kalashnikov is also being remembered for his contributions to over 300 insurgencies, 524 known terrorist groups and at least 18 hostile regime changes. “We will always be grateful to General Kalashnikov for giving us the inspiration for Kevlar,†said DuPont President and CEO Ellen Kullman. An outpouring of support came from some unexpected areas, including Hollywood, which gave him a star on the walk of fame for his contribution to action films which “helped the audience identify the bad guys without further visual or audio cues†as well as the music industry. “You can rhyme about a MAC-10 or Uzi, but they know you’re serious when you start pulling out that AK,†said rapper Banana Clip. “Think of what rhymes with 47 – heaven, um… Devon? 7-11? Yeah.†Kalashnikov is survived by 21 major variants and 31 national operators in addition to several unknown and unidentified versions. On my build, the barrel I have on order is .875, so the MicroMOA is out of the question at the moment for me. (Unless they begin to manufacture in that size). I'd like to get gas block for it in case I am wanting to run a silencer in the future, but also as a hedge against possible overgassing like what is happening on my current rifle. Hopefully won't have to worry about overgassing since the barrel is longer. :x:1 point

I was there in 07-08 with B co 3rd Platoon at Phoenix. Yeah, it sucked. But such is life. I'd rather deploy there again and be with my brothers than anything else though. Most of us all feel that way still. Not a big fan of telling people that I was there. So here's the one time I will. Ha. Hence the photo of Marcus' stuff we found there.... Little stats on that deployment: -42 Purple Hearts out of 140 ish people -70% of all air support in Iraq and Afghanistan combined was in our 3 mile valley during that time -We got in 470 TICs. (Exact number is a 1-2 off, forgot the exact number the TOC recorded)1 point

Look at the bright side guys, pretty soon it will be as economical to shoot .45 as it is .22. Sometimes thinking like a liberal makes you feel better even if nothing is really achieved. kinda like peeing on yourself.1 point

Oh, I caught it. I don't think you did though. He's trying to be "clever". Where are the words "one nation" in relation to the word "God"? "One nation" under "God"? That's why I said it was corny.1 point

It's debatable how much of the AK's design was really his. But he certainly got the credit. The NY Times' obit today is written by CJ Chivers, who wrote a comprehensive history of the rifle a few years ago.1 point

I actually working a case on a criminal docket in an East Tennessee Court (not Knox County, but close) a few years ago when a guy was being charged with an illegal knife charge for having it in his vehicle. He seemed like a really nice guy and his explanation to the judge was that he always worked outdoors and had carried rather large folding knives his entire life and had no idea it was illegal. As I was waiting for my client's case to be heard I had an opportunity to ask that guy's lawyer why he was being charged and made the comment that I'd be surprised by a charge like that in Knox County absent someone mouthing off to the LEO or guilty of some other crime. His lawyer informed me that it was a checkpoint issue with a young cop officer eager to issue lots of citations. I remember thinking that my morning would have been easier if they person I was representing was as sympathetic as the good old country boy with a knife. I think it had a favorable outcome for the guy but it's a great example of why you shouldn't ever be led to believe that because something is a "common practice" that you won't find yourself charged with a crime.1 point
