The US Olympic hockey team just beat the Russians. T.J. Oshie was asked by the press how he felt about being an American Hero. His response; "The heroes are the ones in camo. That's not me".8 points

Myself and some other guys went out and sent some lead down range today. I had a ton of fun, and got to sight the M14 with the new scope, as well as play with all kinds of fun toys with a bunch of like minded guys. What "hate" are you speaking of? No one that I'm aware of is living in the past thinking there will be some great repeat of the of that war. The simple fact is there are still significant cultural differences between the South and the north. I am one of those that lament the decreasing uniqueness and individuality of my culture.5 points

AWESOME day!!! Tons of fun, especially the all-steel stage! As is normal, I was clearly shown my own flaws today... tunnel vision (missed a threat completely) and general poor form/mechanics being the two biggies for me today. I can't think of a more fun way to discover that! I also learned that, while economical, cast lead is not the best choice for rapid fire in low-wind conditions! It was great to meet some fellow TGOers as well! My friend Mike had a blast, too. I'm hoping he'll join TGO soon. Thanks so much to the MCTS staff and members for all your work in creating a safe, friendly, and fun event. I hope to have some video ready of our rookie shoot in a few days. I'll post it up here when it's done. Thanks again!4 points

Not as far as northern liberal broadcasters are concerned. People like Chris Matthews are always talking smack about the "former confederate" states.3 points

For what it's worth, I talked with a Winchester ammo rep yesterday at the National Wild Turkey Federation convention in Nashville. As an outdoor writer, I had my media badge on and went in early yesterday morning, so I was able to find a rep at the Winchester booth that had a few free minutes to talk. Of course my first question ... when are you going to catch up with the .22s? Without hestitation, he said "two years." Really? "Yep." He based it on the outcome of dealer orders at the Shot Show. He did say Winchester (and the rest) has kicked up production to record levels, and have no intention of slowing down for a long time. His other opinions of that conversation were...no government conspiracy, but plenty of 'civilian' rumor, enough to cause panic buying like they've never seen. I asked if the industry took a hit of .22 firearm sales slowing due to the rimfire availability. He said "not at all." He finished with a smile and said, "business is good." No doubt!2 points

In the words of the late, great southerner, Lewis Grizzard, "come on down here. Eat our food, breathe our air, marry our women. There's just one thing we ask of you. Don't tell us how you used to do it back in Cleveland. We don't care. Cleveland's so great - Delta's ready when you are. We'll have you back there by 6:00 this evening if that's where you want to be."2 points

I don't post a lot, under 1,000 in 6 years, but even I have to ask: WTF are you talking about? Labor Unions are most certainly a "Northern" thing for the most part. And if there is no North or South, how the hell does my compass work?2 points

I predict this will go away like it never happened and the law will quietly be repealed while no one is watchin.... I lifted this from the Blaze article: Remember this, no government can govern without the consent of the governed... I see this as a hopeful sign that i didn't think was out there... Even in a ratty, deep blue worker's paradise like Connecticut (...whose wealth was largely built on the firearms industry...) there are folks who have a backbone and are sendin a message... A similar thing is goin on in New York state with sheriffs and chief's of police openly sayin that they will not enforce the SAFE act... I say; good for them... Its about time... leroy the refuseniks supporter2 points

I don’t think they will wait. I think the Officers that participate will just seize them and make arrests as they find them. Vehicle stops, family fights, burglaries, etc. They way to stop this would be if the Police Officers refused. The problem is that when they refuse no one (the legislators) will ever know.2 points

Gosh!!!! I really didn't want to re-fight the Civil War when I made to post. I just thought it was kind of unique that after all these years of listening to how great things were in the north and how backwards things where in the South according to the Northerners there sure are a bunch of them wanting to get below the ole Mason / Dixon line really bad these days. I also grew up my 1st 17 years in Illinois Dave and yep, I hunted and fished and did all the same things I and most folks do down here. I will even say this. I have a friend that still lives up there and we hunted and fished all the time while growing up and we took loaded guns into the small town we lived in. During hunting season for Rabbits and Squirrels and other small game we could shoot with 22's we even pack single action six shooters in western style fast draw holsters tied down on our legs like gun fighters and went to town with them loaded. I had a Colt with bone grips and Dave had Ruger with wood grips. Not one person said a thing or thought anything about it. Everyone in town knew we hunted and many folks got free wild game from us cleaned and ready to cook. In case anyone is interested back when Dave and I were kids we did a lot of hunting and the pistols were for shooting rabbits that were setting tight and we could shoot them without filling them with lead BB's Even the police chief would get rabbits from us to make his Hausenpheffer(spelling) rabbit dinners with. He knew the pistols were loaded and never said a word. So yea I grew up with guns all my life, Even up there. I think I mentioned that i am a half breed. Half Yankee and half Hillbillie and was proud of it but it was never an issue. We came down ever summer for Vacation and stayed with my Grandpa on his big ranch and my father always said he wanted to retire down here near my mothers people and in 1967 we moved South and lived in a beautiful Log home that was built in 1850 that was located on the ranch. The only thing I missed and to this day still miss is my buddy Dave from up there. I speak with Dave often and he said I would not recognize our hometown now. It is a suburb of Chicago. He finally moved to Streator Illinois near the rest of his family when he retired. Point is I didn't plan on starting a major North South Feud but thought it was kind of funny that the North had all this great stuff going in their favor with manufacturing and had the Auto Workers Union and all the Iron and Steel Workers unions and everything else they could stick a union in and control and they bankrupted all of them and now they are driving the Firearms manufacturing out with their stupid laws and now all the people in the North want to come down here. I don't mind if they move down here but don't expect me to change my way of life to suit them cause that ain't happening. I still throw my hand up and wave when I am out in the country and pass an on coming truck or car and normally they wave back. I also honk at friends on their front porches in the summer time down home near our old ranch. Country is still country down there. If I cross a line i should not have cross i am sorry...............but it's jmho1 point

What I cannot figure out is why the northern people come down for our culture then start trying to change it by complaining at all the board and commission meetings! We actually had one say in our county commission meeting that we should be like where she came from. Our commissioner suggested that she go back where she came from since it already had everything in place for her. The look on her face was hilarious!!1 point

.38 Special. Snakes aren't much of a threat. If you have time to draw and fire at that small of a target you have time to get away. Your main concern is of the 2 legged variety.1 point

The good thing is it's very unlikely to hold up to a court challenge. We really need to sue over the fact that school carry restrictions are unconstitutional due to that preventing can not be proven to prevent crime. If we've gone out of our way to prove we are not criminals by getting permits, then it can't be assumed that preventing us from carrying at a school is going to prevent any crime.1 point

My wife is a yankee, I am not. Her family is Slovakian, she is only second generation American. I often tease her and call her Russian, making the stereotype that all of those Eastern European countries are the same. She doesn't like it, but she tolerates it. She cooks food that there ain't no way on god'g green earth you are gonna get a country boy to eat. I haven't had soup beans in ten years. A month ago she tells me she is making me a mess of soup beans. Wish she would have told me that yankees make them with navy beans. And then they smash them all. I cried. On New Years, she cooks kielbasa and kraut, and expects me to eat them, because back in Russia, I mean the now nonexistant former Soviet Bloc country, that is what they ate on New Year. I don't know about you, but I eat collard greens, hog jowl and black eyed peas. Now, the point I am making is a simple one, and something that a lot of folks are missing here, but I am pleased to see that just as many are getting it. The United States of America is a nation that was founded by folks from everywhere. There are few distinctly 'American Traditions' because they are all heirlooms from nations that our ancestors left. Demanding that all American's adhere to 'American Culture' is an ignorant statement. Please note I said ignorant, not stupid, please understand I am stating that one should do more research, not that one is foolish. American Culture, much like Americans are a mish mash of a million different flavors. Even our language and street slang is a mixture of languages. English itself is a blend of Germanic, Norse and French languages. I am proud to be an American, and I am proud of my heritage. To think that because someone has different political or religious views, or speaks a different first language that they can't possibly love America as much as you is the most childish thing I have ever heard. I would like to end this and ask how many of you have attempted to pick up a second language? Why? Why not? I have a large working Spanish vocabulary, but I would hesitate to even say I could converse. It is hard, and I applaud ANYONE who is attempting to learn a second language.1 point

We need to focus on this heavily because the penalty for someone, even with a handgun carry permit, is a Class A Misdemeanor. There is no logical reason that someone with a handgun carry permit should have to worry about a high level misdemeanor when carrying a handgun for protection.1 point
