I hope that God's grace is sufficient for Fred Phelps, as misguided, hateful and sinful as he was. Because frankly, if it's not then I'm pretty sure I don't have much more hope. God will judge us all. Without his grace, I'm in the same boat as Fred. I may not be as public about it, but I can be pretty dang misguided, hateful and sinful myself.5 points

The only thing good I know of that came from him was the founding of Patriot Guard Riders. Proud member who joined to block his efforts to disrupt military funerals and now will help honor any veteran whether WBC oalans to attend or not..4 points

Derek Webb (singer, former member of Cademon's Call) who once wrote a song called "Freddie Please" about Phelps, summed it up perfectly for me. I won't take any joy or satisfaction in this news. I only pray that he can find the peace in the Father's arms that he apparently wasn't able to find in life.4 points

You can look at another side of this to, perhaps a "positive?" aspect of his misguided protests. How many Christians had to really think about and in a lot of cases give voice to their faith because of him - maybe in some cases only to figure out how they were different. Reading the writings of his kids and family, his choices certainly made them struggle with their faith until the point they left. He was vocal in his hatred, especially of gays, but how many of us harbor those same hatreds - maybe just less vocally? Gays? Immigrants? Blacks? Democrats? We all like to pretend we're somehow better, but my heart is pretty black a lot of the time...3 points

I keep thinking of the old Ian Maclaren quote today, "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle."2 points

Agree to disagree. The point isn't aimed at him, or even necessarily at those few members of his family that were part of his church. The point is aimed at everyone else. The point is to provide an example of what the Church really is. The point is to show what Christ's love is really capable of in our broken selves.2 points
I don't know but a large crowed gathering to jeer at and disrupt his funeral would certainly be a little poetic justice I would think. Then again; I find disrespecting a funeral to be a pretty disgusting thing to do regardless of who is being buried so I don't plan to do so.
I think the best, most poetic and Christian response would be to have folks gather with signs proclaiming forgiveness for him as we are called to love all and most especially our enemies. The correct answer to his hatred isn't more of the same in return, but love in abundance.2 points

I think you are being a little disingenuous and painting with too broad a brush. Some on the left and some of the homosexual community may "want to destroy the nuclear family" but that hardly means that a majority want to. I would suggest that while homosexual activists may hate and despise the "traditional" family, and marriage, the trouble makers no more speak for the majority of homosexuals or the left than the Westboro Baptist Church speaks for most Christians.2 points

I don't get to decide who does and doesn't, I'm not God and thank God for that. I'm far too mean and spiteful to be a just and good one. That was my whole point from the beginning. In my opinion any gun should shoot reliably straight from the box and not need a steam cleaning nor a break-in period unless it is an old surplus war gun packed in cosmoline. This is my $0.02 .2 points

It's hard not to feel sadness at the approaching loss of any life. But if ever a human being has caused more grief and cast more hate among us( Short of Judas Iscariot); he will be hard to find. Pastor Phelps had caused untold anguish to so many lives it is beyond human belief. When he meets his Maker, I feel a long explanation will be due.2 points

4 - 6% of the population are homosexual. They have a political impact far beyond that. (It's almost as if their political sponsors - the left - have an interest in destroying the nuclear family). If a brewery wants to offend 95% to score points with 5%, well, their choice. Not a brilliant one.2 points

I agree to the logic, but it isn't always possible to carry a full size pistol. If for whatever reason your lifestyle prohibited you from carrying anything larger and your only interest in guns was carrying one for defense, I'd say its fairly reasonable that a pocket pistol might just be all you need. Now the concept if only needing one gun may seem strange, I'll admit it has me baffled, but for some out there who have to choose between a little gun or no gun, its an easy choice.2 points

Because if you run your .357s at the high end you will get primers flow and it will index hard as the flow creates a burr that drags across the recoil face or if you somehow get a little hotter than avg. you will pierce said primer and receive gas back through the action Learned alot about this shooting .38 Supers Load my .357s and my .40 S&W with SRPs never a problem and a bit of cheap insurance against primer flow.1 point

Scored one!! Carried to the range Saturday! Recoil was similar to any of my .380s(significantly less than the Nano, I carried as well). 2 random FTEs, not worried about that, since it is not broke in yet(+250 rounds). Grip safety will take some getting used to(as did my XDs), but overall, I would give it a B+ for first shoot. And, it's a COOL gun!!1 point

Speaking from a US airspace perspective only: There are several valid reasons why the transponders have an "off" switch. On the ground at or near busy airports, it's often done to reduce the noise and clutter which is inherent to the system. General aviation aircraft often fly with the transponders off when flying "VFR" in order to not have the hassle of dealing with the ATC system for pleasure or low level flights, this is of course not applicable to airliner operations. In addition, the system sometimes breaks down, the signals get confused on the radar screens, the altitude info is wrong or conflicting from the encoders, or maybe the transmitter just has a "crash" and needs resetting, this requires turning the power off and then back on, it's usually done at the request of the controllers but may be initiated by the pilots to clear up issues. As for "blips" showing up on radar without the transponder functioning, the whole purpose of the transponder is to help identify, locate and follow the "blips". Primary radar coverage is very spotty, targets are often hard to see and harder to follow, impossible to identify without the use of the transponder. There are many areas right here in the US where radar coverage is spotty or non-existent, some of these areas are found in Tennessee as well, especially at lower flight levels. Even with transponders working, pilots are sometimes asked to "ident", that's a switch which boosts the transponder output temporarily to help the controllers find an aircraft on their screens. Every one of these examples has occurred to me while flying recreationally in Tennessee; over the oceans in less-developed areas those types of problems are probably worse. Transponders, aviation radar, aircraft navigation and the aircraft traffic control system are poorly understood by the non-flying public, that's completely understandable. What's different in this situation is that the newscasters don't understand it either, and seem willfully obtuse in their comprehension despite numerous attempts by knowledgeable people to answer questions like "why can the transponders be turned off"? After a week, the same reporters are still asking the same questions on air, adding to the confusion of the listeners in their attempt to create controversies where none exist.1 point

I sent the link to cabelas. They acknowledged that there is a hack. Maybe not this link. The guy didn't say that. Appearantly people have found a way to make a product add to their cart and auto pay. Hey brother, fellow conservative upstate NYer here (now live in TN). Don't be afraid to tell people where we're from. Everything you wrote about our home state is true. Its beautitiful country, and nobody has seen rugged country till you've been deer hunting in upstate new york in december ;) I moved down here to get away from NY, because you are right - New York City controls the whole state. Many people don't understand that New York City and our home in upstate NY are completely different - politically, culturally, scenery, you name it. One of the fellas above says "become one of us but don't try to change us". Well, he's right. My advice: respect the Southern people and their ways. Don't try to change them, but don't change yourself. They warmly welcome us Northern conservatives. Nowadays all us conservative Americans need to stick together, and the good people in the South know this just as well..1 point

I'm good. When the hell am I gonna make a 50 yd shot in self defense? Why not 100 yds? 200? Why not just carry a sniper rifle? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk1 point

I guess I miss the point. Of course a bigger gun is better. A rifle is better yet. Artillery is yet another step, though it's kinda heavy to carry around all day. I wouldn't dream of shooting my .380 at 50 yds, that's not what it's for.1 point
