When you give away ak's, you let other countries build them. When other countries build them, you go broke. When you go broke, you can't get "better" guns. When you can't get better guns, people on the internet make fun of you. When people on the internet make fun of you, you get mad. When you get mad, you start WW III. Don't start WW III. How hard can this be? 1. Pull the pin 2. Throw as far from boat as possible 3. Use dip net to pick up dead and stunned fish The guys shown in link below missed step 2 and are favorites for a Darwin Award http://img.fae.ro/9e9f04.gif3 points

Now I will go so far as to say that I really think people who want to carry should actively seek out instruction and/or put in frequent range time to become of their own accord more proficient....3 points

I know all of us love firearms, but what else do you guys do on the side? I know some of you have RC planes, but whats something that you like to collect? For some reason, ever since I was a kid, I have always had a fascination with legos. To this day I buy them, but had to restrict myself to a genre. (Dont judge, we all have our different tastes). And I am bored at work and decided to come up with something FUN! Since everything else is bad, fattening or illegal. When I was with my ex, I tried moving them into our apartment, and her kid started breaking them. So I drove them back to my parents house. I need more shelves :panic:2 points

Now THAT'S what I want. Not a long blade, but that one really struck my fancy. I'm gonna do some searching and comparing, but I really like that. It's at the top of the list at the moment. Thanks for the info..!!2 points

[quote name="greenego" post="1136199" timestamp="1397065399"]if you have a carry permit now, you can open carry. It's a carry permit, not a conceal carry permit. There are actually several good options available out there. I've carried a Clinch Pic for quite a while now. I knew/know and trained with the designer and it fits my preceived need very well. http://monderno.com/knife-reviews/shivworks-clinch-pick/ I also have a Polkowsli Kasper fixed blade in a Mike Sastre kydex sheath. Mike's a good guy and easy to work with. http://www.rivercitysheaths.com/photo.htm Another fixed blade I have sometimes carry is the now discontinued Spyderco Ronin... A TDI knife in an NSR tactical aftermarket sheath is a viable option. http://www.kabar.com/knives/detail/76 http://nsrtactical.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=43&products_id=29 but I still carry my waved Griptilian daily.2 points

We can say what we want, but he's right. If this guy used a gun, there probably would have been fatalities. That's why I don't like the pro-gun side using the argument that they will just go to knives. It doesn't equate. yes, there is the possibility to kill with a knife, we all know that, but the potential for fatalities in such a situation like this is much higher with a gun, like it or not. I don't believe in gun control, but I also accept the fact that it means there is the potential some lives will be lost to crazy people. There will never be a utopia, so everyone can't have it all ways.2 points

If they ban guns, they use knives. When they add knives to the ban, they'll use hammers, screwdrivers, scissors.......they just don't get it. It's not the tool it's the attacker!2 points

I have read about the Fort Pillow 'massacre', before. Based on what I read, there were accounts from both sides which intimated that the 'massacre' happened when the 'prisoners' in question began fighting, again, just as indicated in the OP. One, big thing used to try and besmirch Forrest's name is the fact that he was a charter member of the Klu Klux Klan. Some accounts have him as the founder but that is not likely the truth. However, he did move into the main, leadership position within a few years. The thing is, people don't understand that there was, basically, no real law enforcement in many parts of the South in the years following the Civil War and the KKK was formed not as a racist group but as a group of vigilantes intent on combating that lawlessness. Unfortunately, it appears that the focus of the group rather quickly turned to racism. Because of that shift Forrest, himself - by right of his leadership position - officially disbanded the KKK for that, very reason (in 1869, I believe.) Apparently, he felt that by moving into a more racially motivated direction the group had lost its purpose and focus and he no longer wanted to be associated with them. Forrest is the source of one of my favorite quotes of all time - quite possibly my absolute favorite quote. Apparently, there was a Captain under his command with whom Forrest did not get along. The Captain in question put in for transfer to a different command and Forrest blocked it. The Captain confronted Forrest and the two got into a heated argument. The Captain ended up shooting Forrest (the bullet lodged in his hip, iirc.) It is said that Forrest then drew his sabre and used it to kill the Captain, saying (and this is the quote to which I referred), "No damn man kills me and lives!"2 points

Thanks to all who worked hard to get this passed! It will be nice to be able to purchase/carry a knife based on design, purpose and utility rather than making the decision based on an arbitrary length limit. To be honest, in the past I have been hesitant to carry a knife with a blade length even of a full four inches just to err on the side of caution. The new law will open the door to a much wider range of useful tools, IMO.2 points

Nathan Bedford Forrest was a great man.... He was probably the most powerful post-civil war confederate figure in Tennessee after the civil war... He called out the infamous Governor Brownlow on a variety of punitive policies considered in the Tennessee state assembly after the war... He essentially made them fear for their lives... They were so mindful of his sentiments and positions that they pretty well walked a reasonable line with regard to issues concerning the "punishment" and "second class citizenship" of confederate veterans after the war... He was never a member of the Tennessee state assembly, but his views were well known and completely understood... Forrest was a brave man and a genius who knew what he believed in.... Brownlow was a ratty opportunist politician, windbag, and a demagogue who was made afraid by one man; Nathan Bedford Forrest.... Remember, there was no military governor in Tennessee after the civil war... Brownlow was the closest thing that Tennessee had and he was very mindful of what Forrest's positions on policy were... He was afraid of Forrest, and for very good reason i believe... It is, indeed, fitting, that there is a bust of Nathan Bedford Forrest in the collection of the Tennessee State House... He was a great man... A military genius, an extraordinarily brave man, a great business man, and a great Tennessean; despite the continuing campaign waged to smear and besmirch him... Remember, history is written by the winners... That means that the truth hardly ever is the "approved version".... leroy2 points

I’ve never worked in the industry but I think this could work. The math: I think the keys would be making sure the returned firearms (of which I suspect there would be few) are accepted back in as new condition and the fact that you’d be offering store credit as opposed to a cash refund. My understanding is that mark up on firearms is probably closer to 20% but I’m gonna say 25% just to make the math easier. You sell a $500 gun (in which you have $400) and it is returned in as new condition. You sell that gun for $450 for a $50 profit. Whatever happy customer purchases with his store credit will have your profit margin built in. Thus, why store credit is one of the keys. I understand that you’re ultimately accepting a lower profit margin on that gun but would suggest that you may actually improve your bottom line. A friend of mine is one of the best retail sales people I know. He is absolutely as honest as they come but he understands that if you are dealing with a replaceable good sacrificing profit margin for bottom line often pays off long term. My friend is one of the best I’ve seen at making sure that customers get to spend all the money they want. If a customer comes in with $100 to spend and he only has $40 worth of that product (in which my friend has $20 being in a keystone markup business) my friend will offer to sell them $120 worth of a comparable product for $100. He’s willing to do this because he understands that $40 minus $20 equals $20 and $100 minus $60 equals $40 and $40 is more than $20. The psychology: I still believe the percentage of returns would be low in this scenario and I think the psychological edge of such a policy might well outweigh the reduced profit margin on the returned items. Here’s the scenario: potential gun buyer is on the fence on plopping down the hard earned Benjamins for a gun he’s not quite sure he’ll like. Maybe this generous return policy pushes him over the edge. From the few responses I read before composing this missive it appeared there might be some interest from those assembled here in doing business with an establishment with such a policy. Potential boost in customer loyalty methinks. Some might even being willing to pay at least some small premium to do business with such an establishment. My $0.02.2 points

I never thought I would be saying this but this Brand M2 knife is built just as good if not better than my Rick Hinderer XM knives. Without a doubt this is the absolute best $340.00 I have ever spent. I would have paid a lot more for this knife and been extremely satisfied!1 point

My favorite Forrest quote: General Steven Lee attacked 11,000 well entrenched Union soldiers with a botched frontal attack, after Forrest pleaded with Lee to wait until the Yankees were on the move and stung out on the road, Forrest told Lee "Don't feel bad general, if I had me a West Point education, the Yankees would be whippin' me all the time." Robert E Lee was asked by a reporter, after the war, "Mr. Lee, in your opinion, who was the best general of the war, North or South?" Lee replied "It is a man I have never met. His name is Forrest."1 point

There is nothing wrong with steel plates as long as you order them with spall coatings. You can get rifle caliber multi hit capable curved steel plates for $120 each and that includes the coating that stops ALL spall.1 point

I'm a fan of any home defense shotgun with the exception of the 500, nothing against owners of such but my observation is of that when you cycle the action after it's new, the weapon becomes a rattle can. Good guns for the money but I just can't get over the 'rattle-rattle' aspect after putting some rounds down range. Good shotguns for the money, 870 or 590/590A1; go with either and you won't be disappointed. If money isn't an issue, get a Saiga, Spas12, FNH SLP, or Benelli M2 or M4. My favorite compromise in between for price/firepower/semi or pump is the Remington 1100 Police, under 1k, can rapidly deploy shot down range and is a pretty simple design.1 point

Don't worry folks, unless a bunch of people light up the phone lines over the next few days, there is no chance this is going to get on the House floor. Bill and Beth have decried it dead. It may prove the end for Charles Sargent though, he has a real competitor in the primary, who has some money, and this time his carrying the water for Haslam will get noticed.1 point

That means that if we carry concealed we have to pay for that privilege but a legal gun owner does not have to pay for the privilege to carry openly......... :stunned: :stunned: :stunned: No classes required and no professional classes on proper gun handling and safety. Just strap it on and go for it if you can legally own it. Sounds like someone may have finally figure out just what the 2nd Amendment really means but it also might make us look like Dodge City Kansas or Tombstone Arizona back in the 1870's too................. :hiding: :hiding:1 point

Toss out those 1/2" -3/4" screws that come for the mounting plates and put in 3" deck screws (pre drill to prevent splintering). The frame is the weak point, especially with your steel door. Get the longest strike plate that you can fit in there. That will spread the force of blows to the door across a wider area on the frame reducing the likelihood of the wood splintering.1 point

They are fine but for the money your are talking about you can get a Vepr for $649, which is by far the nicest ask going or Centerfire had the Bulgarian pattern 47's with red wood for $610. Atlantic had QC checked Wasr's for a great price. I wouldn't by a Wasr (except for the Atlantic version) without actually seeing it. Too much chance of getting canted parts. They'll run but it's nice to start with a better quality Wasr from the beginning. Holy cow , a pallet of ammo cans?! I've got ammo stored loose in a can, in boxes in a can, boxes in a cabinet, and loose in a pretzel jar. :)I like loose storage for the 22.s I shoot most which are Calibri, I've got those in an old pretzel jar. I just grab a handful and go. Bulk plinking ammo that's getting used relatively soon also gets tossed in loose, I just grab the can or fill up a zip lock bag. Anything "specialty" stays in the box. Anything being set aside for the hoard stays in the box. Of course, there are exceptions. As to what to do with it all, I'd say that your might want to think about storing some off site. I keep some spread around at a few different places. A little at my brothers, a lot here, a whole lot at my parents as that's the rendezvous point for the family and I spend a lot of time there anyway. It works out pretty well.1 point
