  1. Put a bayonet on a long Mosin Nagant and you can poke them from the end of the hallway!  Get an M44 Mosin carbine and the fight will be over if you fire one round.  After that intruders will be deaf and blind and you can use the bayonet! As an FYI, the Russian spike bayonet will very easily go through most interior doors and walls!   Personally, I use a Brown Bess Musket with bayonet for home defense.  If the .75 ball with four buckshot doesn't get them, then the huge muzzle blast and flash from 90 grains of black powder will stun them.  Lastly, if they are not out of the fight yet, then seeing my overweight, naked body come screaming down the hall out of the smoke cloud six feet behind a long, shiny bayonet had better do the trick!

  3. Well, I finally did it. Something I should have done years ago. I got my tgo lifetime benefactor subscription! I was going to just renew like I always do, but it just didn't make sense. I lurk on quite a few gun/survival/diy forums, and I just got to say, tgo is the most polite and professional forum I have run across. A lot of credit is due to David and the moderators, more credit than they receive sometimes. Credit also goes to the members who make tgo what it is. Thanks to all. Btw, with benefactor membership, I get a key to the nice bathrooms, don't I? Epp

  4. That is why I do avoid businesses posted because if I do go in one I do still carry many times except Federal building. Reason being I do not want to be faced with the same issue the young lady in Texas was. Had she had her gun with her instead of in her car the outcome may have been much different and her parents may have survived. I would rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6 for being stupid..............jmho

  6. an SKS or an AK is the way to go.  A bolt rifle is ridiculous,  especially a Mosin Nagant.   I'd get an AK variant.  a SKS is way to long,  an AK is a manageable length.  If I think bad guys are trying to get in my door they will meet a WASR.   Joe Biden says all you need is a double barrel shotty.   YMMV

  8. First, this is a video version of a scenario that has gone around for decades: Pick someone in your family to die or you all die, and the choice can't be you.   Second: I call BS. Everyone knows that gingers are the ones that would go. :)

  9. No disrespect intended, but I just don't consider that funny.  I'd say it's more an age/generational thing.   I find things that some of the younger than myself guys consider comic to be anything but that. Just an observation from an old guy.

  10. Id suggest trying the Blackhawk recoil reducing stock. After that maybe step down to 20 ga if necessary.

  18. I think suggesting that someone just get a different job is really rather ridiculous. We have more people out of work in this country today than any other time in the country's history - anyone who currently has a job had damn well better keep it. There is nothing wrong with looking around and keeping options open but there is more to a career and finding the right position than whether a company allows firearms on their property.

  19. ^ What Dan said. Just as a further illustration... If you were going hunting for a 150-250lb predator, wouldn't you want the gnarliest load you could muster? For me that's 3" 000 Buck... And at room distances, that won't penetrate appreciably more through building materials than an ounce of compressed fairy dust at the same velocity, but it will put bigger holes in a badguy. If you want reduced penetration in walls, go with .223 Even bird shot goes through multiple walls.

  22. I had a Plinkster 802 bolt lugs fall out. Did have to pay shipping to them, but they eventually replaced it with whole new rifle, all they could do since they can't work on the Brazilian stuff, just took awhile for them to get another one.   Sort of made up for the shipping when I ordered some extra mags for it, I couldn't get them to stop shipping them. Only paid for 4 but eventually got 16 or so of them! Called and asked if they wanted them back, they said just keep 'em. So sold extras.   And yes, Eagle Pass is in Texas, but just barely. :)   - OS

  23.   I have to disagree with you there.  If I get to decide the rules before I have a gunfight, sure, I'll take whatever kind of ammo I can find... but life doesn't work that way.  #1B or larger, if I'm being forces to use a shotgun for defensive purposes.    And the #3 and #4 buckshot goes through just as much drywall as the larger shot anyway, so basically you give up terminal performance for nothing.

  25. IIRC, I've never really worried about any critter other than the 2-legged kind. If I lived in the Rockies or up north then it'd probably be different. The no-legged critters would prefer to have nothing to do with you.

  26. More hypocritical non-sense from legislator’s. If the state doesn’t recognize carry as a right; they can’t force it down the throat of business. (They can, but it shouldn’t hold up in court)
    1 point
  27. True we have a bunch of critters down here, but they're not big ones.    Apart from maybe a really big black bear, or some of our newly reintroduced elk, any round that is good enough to use for self defense is more than adequate for anything that lives in Tennessee.

  29. I hunt maybe 2x a year with a buddy.  Get swept no telling how many times by his muzzle, and he's very safety conscious.  That's why I usually hunt alone.  Get more accomplished, and don't get Cheneyed that way.  Sucks dragging deer by yourself, but worth it not to get swept (or dead).

  30. I've never seen anything at FGS that I would call "fairly priced". Personally, I'd drive over to the gun show in M'boro this weekend with a knowledgeable friend and see what I could find.

  31.     This.  Or just pick a light load.  Given that home defense use will likely be at very close range, those 3.5" magnum shells aren't really necessary.  Also consider that in the very unfortunate event she actually has to use it in self defense, recoil won't exist.

  32. Folks, please be careful out there. This incident was an accident, but should have been preventable. Know where your hunting partners are and know what's beyond your target. I hunted opening weekend in Alabama with the young man that shot his friend. They are all experienced hunters. I'll ask you to say a prayer for all involved. 33.   My concern, traveling with all those items to the range, for instance, isn't with the legality of his set up but the ignorance of the law by police officers.  OS is completely legal, but if he gets pulled over for a minor infraction which turns into a search, the officer conducting the search may believe he is in violation of the law.  Heck, I had a Sheriff's Deputy in Florida come out to the family range for a shoot day several years back, and asked ME if my AR was legal to own.  He was under the impression that I had to have it registered (with whom?).  So it isn't far fetched to assume OS's setup could get someone in temporary hot water.  At a minimum, I'd have several letters from the ATF printed off and colocated with my items to ensure the popo had the tools of knowledge if it came to that.

  38.   As the father of 3 little girls, I couldn't agree more. If kids get themselves into situations by themselves its bad enough, but to have an adult looking to facilitate the situation, well that I have a real problem with.    They maybe 18, but they are still high school kids.  Just b/c something is legal, doesn't mean its appropriate.

Once it is completed,  she tells him to select a password, selecting a word that  he'll always remember. As the computer asks him to enter  it, he looks at his wife and with a macho gesture and a  wink in his eye, he selects a word: mypenis As he hits  "enter", to validate the selection, his wife collapses  with laughter and rolls on the floor in  hysteria!!    The computer  had replied:  TOO SHORT- ACCESS  DENIED!
