Well, I have read all 6 pages of this thread and learned almost nothing but it was a nice read.  Really nice discussions on several levels. Like I have said in the past, I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer. In conclusion I figured out the Principal did something wrong and the Cheerleaders did what they thought was right but then turned out to be wrong because the principal was wrong yet the Cheerleaders were right because they were not wrong in saying a prayer.   Saying the Prayer offended someone and they threatened the Cheerleaders with physical harm for saying the prayers. That is totally out of line regardless of who was right or wrong in the beginning. You never threaten a child for any reason. I would not consider my self to be a crazy religious person by any means. I don't discuss my religious beliefs with any one because I think that is my business.   I will say this, I have my beliefs and other people have their beliefs. If a group of cheerleaders gather together and have a prayer so what. I would not be offended either way and be adult, accept that is their beliefs and move on. I would not feel I was having anything forced upon me because I am more of an adult and a person than that. I consider many of today's petty issues childish when it comes to things such as this.    I served with a guy that was a proclaimed Atheist and he didn't mind letting any one and every one around him know it. He made it quite clear to all concerned and even those who weren't concerned. About 14 months into our tour we came under attack while on patrol and he got shot up pretty bad and my medic was working frantically to keep him alive. I was on my knees working with the medic and the soldier looked at me and said I'm going to die and I said I don't know.     His last words were " Sir, will you say a prayer for me tonight and ask GOD to forgive me?" I thought a few seconds and I said yes and about 10 seconds later he was gone. I kept my promise that night under the stars I said a Prayer for him. I told GOD that I had not ask him for much since I was just a little boy but I had a request from someone and I am fulfilling a promise I made and I said my prayer for him. I wanted to share that because in a few ways it seems appropriate here. In all honesty I do believe there are true Atheists in the world and I honestly thought in my heart that that soldier was one but I guess my judgement was off a little.   I did a lot of thinking after that day and night about many things in life and how we really think we know so much when in all reality we know very little. We are trying to live a life we think is what we want but in the very very far back corner of out heart, soul and brain their is that  very small question mark saying " Is this all there is or is there so much more"?   I have suffered a lot of grief in my life but I think there is always someone out there that has suffered so much more. I often allow my mind go back to 1990 when I buried my Father I dearly loved in April totally unexpected, my Grandfather I loved in June, My brother next oldest to me passed unexpectedly in his sleep in July at the age of 41 and my son which was expected  four 4 years and was living on borrowed time since the night of his accident.  He passed away in August 1990. Lost the Love of my life in 97 to a heart attack.   I look at this world today and I wonder how it has lasted as long as it has with every one complaining about everything someone else is doing or saying and all of the petty little things that people can find to argue about. Has anyone besides me ever wondered what it would be like to just 1 time in their life turned on the TV and the evening news reporter saying   "Well, we have had another day of peace across the world and the weather is nice and that is the news for today!"  I have and it is a beautiful thought until reality sets back in....................jmho

Willis, as I have said many times...Thank You for all the work you have put into this.   Too many don't realize the amount of time and labor that goes into setting all this up.   Dealing with the knife company initially organizing a buy.   Getting people interested enough to sing up for a buy.   Dealing with a design.   Getting it approved by potential buyers.   Getting that design worked out by the manufacturer.   Getting the "buyers" involved to pay, and do it in a timely manner. Almost having to threaten and beg to get us to pay up after signing up.   Then all the time you have involved in just sitting here compiling names and address to send them out.   Plus the amount of computer time you've spent just watching this and answering questions and responding to comments.   I'm sure this has been an emotional and physical drain on you. And I fully understand your reluctance to do it again.   For my part, I think you are a great person to have taken this on; and I gratefully acknowledge your efforts.   Many Thanks, and as my beloved grandmother use to say. "Until you are better paid...Thank You."

That always makes me nervous too cutting big branches from the stand like that. If it's a really branchy tree, I'll sit on the limb I want to cut and use a hand saw to lop off the bulk of it like you did. Then I'll get off and cut the remaining stump. Scary stuff for sure.   Watch the '55 closer, he broke loose (around 1:08) and started sliding towards the other car, then lost it during the correction.    As for the seat belt, those only have a lap band... And the reason a lot of tracks won't let cars that index over a certain speed run without having a 5 point.  Hell, if it was my track if you don't at least have a shoulder and lap band, you wouldn't be allowed to run it.

If you use the extended pistol buffer tube and a 10.5" barrel the overall length gets past 26". 26" is important because you can put a vertical forward grip on the gun. If you use a barrel shorter than that you will have a gun that is not 26", or more, and you cannot use a vertical forward grip. Regardless of overall length you can run an angled forward grip.   My wife has a 16" 9mm barrel and it gives 357 magnum performance. I was out of town this weekend for a shooting competition so I decided to stop in one of the local gun stores where I was. Found this Beretta Model 71 in the case and said that's coming home with me. It's a .22 LR with a threaded barrel for a suppressor. I'm thinking it's from somewhere in the 70's but I haven't tried to find a serial number listing to pin point the exact date. There is some holster wear and handling wear on it but it seems to function well when I manually cycle it. It has a nice trigger with almost no take up. Can't wait to take this one out and see how it shoots. Guess it's not as bad as Glock though. To anyone wondering, the suppressor is a faux one. It's been permanently attached via set screw and plug weld. Why? I have no clue but that's just how it is.

So what does an enterprising mountain man do when they need a camp axe on a budget? Well, for me I fire up the forge and make one. Wrapped and welded 5160, 3/8" thick. Made from an old leaf spring, the handle is an old busted mattock handle I had laying around, and the wedge I just forged out from scrap. Handle is about 28". Glad you got it finished without getting hurt. Sometimes the simplest things we did as kids, can get us hurt as adults with a lot longer recovery time.    And no problem on the mug shot, you're right, this close to deer season I'd be more excited about the stand than the super model. If you carry it, and it is 26"+, you must NOT have the VFG because with the VFG it is no longer a pistol. If you remove the VFG it returns to being a pistol and you can carry is concealed like any other handgun. 26" and a VFG turns it into a "firearm".

Well, luckily we don’t live in the countries that have tried that. Oh wait… luck has nothing to do with it; it’s because that is not what our founding Fathers intended, and the American people would never stand for it. Our men and women have fought and died against those that tried because it is wrong.   Set what kind of example? Firing him for what he did would almost guarantee him a new job; probably better than the one he had. Christians won’t let someone suffer because they suggested prayer. The ones that would try to fire him should be the ones out in the cold… and would be.

Well I don't know much about the AR side of it but in the AK the barrel length is relatively irrelevant. You get nearly the same ballistics at useful ranges no matter what barrel length as long as you stay with the x39. That being said I prefer nothing shorter than 10". Main reason is getting useful furniture below that length is a custom made project. There are a variety now of furniture, gas tubes, sights,ect that are designed around the "krink" and AKM (Draco/AK).   I personally don't care for 5.56 or 5.45 in the shorter lengths because it really affects the ballistics once you get below 14" or so.

LMB and Hozzie both have good points and the points are that they agree to disagree but it is not meant to be hurtful as much as it is a discussion about a situation which is about a mistake made by a human being that is not perfect but is a principal of  school and it is the poor cheerleaders that are taking the brunt of the storm which is totally not fair...........jmho on that.   Now this very same issue has not only be taken up at the high school levels. It was also taken up at the Professional levels of sports. The only difference is those little trouble makers known as the ACLU found out right quick that they made a very large mistake when you get out of your league. They stepped up to the Big times and tried to get prayer controlled first in baseball. The Major League Commissioner was nice enough he told each team that it was the Leagues decision that as far as prayers before a game were concerned they would be leaving that up to the owners of the individual teams to make that decision and it ended there.   Then they went after the NFL and pretty much got the same answer that base ball gave them. They said that the NFL Commission did not have a stand on a prayer issue but it would be up to the owners of each team as to how they handled the prayer issue but as far as the NFL League, they would be remaining neutral.   Gotta love the next one. The ACLU big wheels went to Florida to have a discussion back years ago with Mr. France at NASCAR. Yep!!!!  They came right down here in the middle of the Bible belt to confront NASCAR on their decision to no longer have a Pastor say a prayer for the drivers and all in attendance at the home of NASCAR. The Daytona 500 in February of that year. Mr France was polite for a short time and he told them that with all due respect there would be a prayer at the Daytona 500 and every NASCAR event after that one. One of them spoke up and I still don't have a clue what he said but Mr France's reply to him was "You take your Yankee A$$es back up where you came from and Pound Sand cause we will have prayers and you don't have to watch or attend any of the races if your offended!" and Track Security escorted them out.    So with that said, the ACLU found out right quick what league they can play in and what ones they cannot. I guess they better stick with principals and cheerleaders....................jmho

Since 9mm is my favorite caliber and my wife has a .38 LCR that I really like, I will definitely have to give this a look.  Interesting that it weighs more than the .38 but I guess it probably should if it will handle +p.

The bill also apparently lowers the permit age to 19, allows open carry, prevents MDs from asking about guns in the home, and prohibits discrimination against gun owners in housing. That's one heck of a bill from the looks of it. :stunned:

I have a 7.5 barrel on mine, and it is a BLAST to shoot!  It's surprisingly (to me) accurate out to a reasonable distance, and long range shooting is not really why I built it.

I have more than 30 years of shooting and gunsmithing experience, including hundreds of custom AR builds and complete tear downs. I also own and have used the original slide fire stock on more than 6 different ARs, with dozens of shooters of all ages and sizes. Based on my experience, I have to disagree with most of these points above. The slide fire stock doesn't make the gun more difficult to aim, as the gun still uses the same sights. The rapid fire and resulting muzzle climb might initially make it more difficult for a novice to stay on target, but most novices that tried my slide fire stock were able to keep most of their 30 rounds within a human silhouette pattern at distances between 15-20 yards, and then with just a little training and practice they got much better, especially when using several short 3-6 round bursts. Even a small 9 year old kid did it fine with no prior rifle instruction other than proper safety controls during his run. Nobody had any trouble learning how to shoot it, with most shooters learning the proper forearm trigger control method after just 2 or 3 short bursts. While a 30 round mag could be used up quickly, and more rounds are always welcome, the typical civilian defensive scenario with just 1-3 attackers at short distance isn't something that would require more than 2-4 short bursts anyway. The super large mags and belt fed guns are mainly for military combat use, where they will have dozens or hundreds of adversaries and be shooting for extended periods at longer ranges, and laying down suppressive or covering fire. And the statement about bump fire being hard on the gun is just false. Most if not all of the modern ARs are built to meet and exceed military specifications, and often the civilian parts are made by the same military contract suppliers as the more expensive guns. I have torn down and rebuilt more than a dozen Colt M16s from Vietnam, and those guns are not magically better or more durable, in fact they had a few older inferior parts that have since been improved, and they used thin pencil barrels that would overheat faster than most modern heavier or fluted civilian barrels. I have run at least 300 rounds through a cheap parts kit AR in less than 10 minutes and it fired perfectly with no harm done, other than the barrel getting super hot and of course the usual fouling in the action. And if you run the slide fire on a modern piston action then it actually stays cooler and cleaner than those old military guns ever did. I do agree with JONIN though that the slide fire stock is primarily for target shooting and fun recreation, as most people (just one or a few guns and little or no recurring practice) wouldn't need or benefit from using it in a typical defensive scenario. But then again it can always be switched to semiauto mode, so the argument would be why not just have it, just in case?

I think you'll find "best" barrel length to be highly subjective. My favorite length AR pistol I've built is a 10.5". Short enough to still be very compact, but with a OAL long enough for me to use a forward vertical grip. I've heard it said some have trouble with getting shorter barrels like 7.5 inches to run right, but I wouldn't pay any attention to that. An AR is an AR regardless. I built one as a 7.5", but I found myself almost being forced to grip the magwell with my support hand because the barrel and handguard were so short and I didn't shoot it very well. Just my experiences. I find that with the longer barrel of the 10.5" it's easier for me to use almost my normal hand positioning and be more accurate with the weapon. I can make hits with it easily out to 200 yards.

        Trust me, I'll be on it in the morning.  Every morning, I cruise this forum, FB, several email groups, and media outlets for my day's list. And, I journal it.   I cannot describe how significant prayer has been in my general well-being over the last ten years or so.  Were it any other way for me, I would have crashed and burned a long time ago.  Those who actually know my story, can attest.   Simply put, there is power in prayer, especially when praying for others.  So, like you, I need them too.  He rarely answers my requests in self-interest, but responds amazingly in the others.   A few years ago, I had an agnostic friend suddenly ask during dinner -   "Do you get feedback?"   me - "huh??"   him - "when you pray, does he answer?"   me - "Of course. It's clear athiests can't truely discuss religion since they think it's the same thing as the Easter Bunny or a cartoon character in their minds. They clearly have the right to feel that way, but NOT to infringe on the rights of believers... just like another "anti" group we often tak about. The anti religious have an unexplainable fear of something they don't understand & want to get rid of it...just like another "anti" group we often talk about. See a pattern yet? The ACLU is completely wrong in trying to ban any & all forms of religious freedom because it strikes at the hearts of human nature. I know the principal personally & he's not a trouble maker & isn't driven by some dark unknown force. I saw one rediculous comment about firing him, wich doesn't make any sense, first since you don't know anymore than the news article told you, & because he's actually looking out for the rights & freedom of the the student body he cares about. What are you all so afraid of? The anti religious are actually worse than the anti gun groups because they're trying to control the heart's & mind's of citizens within society. When people use the excuse, "well, the ACLU made it a rule...or the govt said so in a vote...", it's nothing more than a cop out by control freaks. Remember that when the 2nd amendment is taken by the same type of liberals that wanted to ban religion in schools. Banning free speech & religion in schools is socialism 101. I say live & let live, have a nice day, & do no harm to others when possible. Life is much simpler than people make it. :)

What tickles me is that non-believers get so upset about a simple prayer. If they don't believe what are they afraid of? No one is forcing them to pray in any form or fashion. What is so wrong in respecting the rights of others? No one should be forced to do anything religious against their will....I firmly believe that. But can't they be quiet for a few seconds...check the sports scores or headlines on their phones or even play one of the stupid on line games?

If a person or group of people want to pray they have every right to. If a Jewish or Muslim wants to pray, that's fine too. What I will never, ever understand are people who say, "You can't/shouldn't do that." None of your business. Just because these kids are at a public school sporting event they don't suddenly lose their right to practice their religion. A person, or group of people praying has no effect on the rights of others. The reason people have a problem is because they "feel" excluded. As long as you don't care if a bunch of Muslims pray to Allah before the game while everyone else waits as well, I am cool with it. I also am not religious. In fact, I am pretty anti-religion, but as long as everyone can do it equally, then no issue for me. I don't personally believe that any religion has any place in public/government events, but it also doesn't bother me if someone wants to pray before a game. My GAU-5 "Son Tay Raider" Clone. 6lbs, 2oz. This was a custom build that used all Colt parts back when you could get M16A1 part kits. The custom made XM177 moderator is welded and pinned to the cut down USGI rifle barrel making it 16.1 inch. The carbine stock is one of the early aluminium ones. With the Normark Single Point Reflex Sight removed this AR is under 6 pounds. My "Light" 3Gun. 6lbs, 13oz. The 3Gun has a 16 inch lightweight, mid-length gas barrel. Magpul fixed carbine stock. No BUIS. No Sling points. No forward grip. I might have gotten it under the 6 pounds mark had I not used the 15 inch VTAC Alpha Rail, but I wanted that length for hand placement.
