I just left him a message. Hoping he, or one of his relatives, calls back. I know his daughter has been really close by lately. BTW, his aneurism is VERY serious and the biggest I have ever heard of. He even said the doctors said they have never seen one that big on a living person. So we need to really need to be keeping him in your thoughts right now.3 points

Other than rifles specifically set up for long range work where optics are necessary, I've never understood why one wouldn't have iron sights. And that's not just AR's but any rifle.3 points

It seems like it would be a lot simpler for people to upload their own videos then post them here in their respective section. Otherwise seems like there would be a lot of bandwidth being used moving videos around. Then the other problem is who ever shot the video owns that video and if WE, as in TGO, has control of it that can get a little sticky if THEY decide they no longer want it up. BTW, I am going to start doing some videos. I think my first video will be a home grown tritium install on a pistol for under $20. I already have the tritium ordered, just waiting on them to come in.2 points

There are many camp sites that offer monthly rates with full hook-ups (water, sewer electric). My wife and I stayed at 2 in the Nashville area when we were selling our home in TX, waiting to buy in TN. The ones in this area average 300-400 per month.2 points

A second gun comes in awful handy if the first one is damaged if the BG's bullet hits it or your hand and you are injured and drop it. We see A LOT of wounds to the hands in FOF training. But honestly the overwhelming majority of gun owners with an HCP don't regularly carry a gun............... much less carry TWO. But you can have too much of a good thing. If you are festooned with pistols all over your person and end up in an entangled fight now you are having to not only keep from getting beaten, stabbed, shot, etc, but also trying to keep the other guy from using your own stuff against you.2 points

I should have at least one extra lying around here somewhere... Yup, found it. Shoot me your shipping info and it's on the way, or pick it up in Nashville if you're close by.2 points

It was worth watching, but they really took a LOT of creative license. Gage, for instance, wasn't regarded as a total shit...and wasn't even at the Battle of Bunker Hill. He was actually fairly sympathetic of the colonials. They went too far in trying to "modernize" the dialog. I don't think Ben Franklin would have called Prime Minister North, "Bro". They also give Sam Adams WAY too much representation in the Continental Congress than he deserved. There will be a lot of people who watch this and take it for Gospel. My biggest gripe is that they really made Farmer Dickerson of Pennsylvania out to be a smug and prissie ass at the Cont. Congress. That man was amazing, and humble. He opposed the declaration due to his Quaker beliefs and the desire to avoid war at all costs, but when the die was cast, he served proudly in the Pennsylvania Militia during the war. My other peeve is that they showed the Declaration being voted on July 4th, rather than July 2nd. John Adams on HBO was much better written and acted, and was really superb. It portrayed Dickenson VERY well. It took creative license too...they made Adams' relationship with his son Charlie out to be caustic when there is no evidence to support that. They also kill Charlie off at a young age, when in fact he lived to be much older than the series indicated. I majored in History, so that kind of stuff bothers me. None of it was harmful, but there are plenty of other shows/movies that are made that really are dangerous. There are kids out there that believe Lincoln was a vampire hunter for Pete's' sake.2 points

If you like this show, I would also suggest taking the time to watch the John Adams mini series done by HBO several years ago.2 points

So I was down in Harriman, TN at a local pawn shop just browsing when I came across and AR smith and Wesson labeled as being a .223 for $600. I asked to look at it and in closer inspection it was a 5.56 smith and Wesson m&p 15. Troy rear flip sight and front A sight. Quard rail with a 30 round p mag and 6 position stock. It has some small scratches on the barrel but I could not pass up on the price. After showing her the scratches and how dirty it was she knocked it down to $502- $560 OTD with a box of ammo. I get home with it and do some research and it is a M&p15x which MSRP is $1300! She told me she had priced it herself off of what she saw online and she priced it as a Sport model. Then gun is in great shape all cleaned up (apart from the small scratches) and I am going to shoot it this Saturday. Any suggestions, comments, concerns for a first time AR owner?1 point

Howdy, My employer opened a plant in Nashville a year ago and I was tasked to come down and get it running. From the start of that adventure, I was impressed with the people, the values, the reverence for the second amendment, and the food.... WOW. How can you make everything taste so good? Such a culture shock, people that work hard, play harder and just enjoy each others company. Everyone smiles, greets you, and genuinely wants to know how you are doing. Coming from the pacific north-wet, anti social, politically correct, goose stepping, organically grown tofu anti car society, What a breath of fresh air. After the start up, I was offered the opportunity to run the plant. It took a little convincing of the missus, but here we are. So here we are, We have moved to Spring Hill, looking to purchase our forever home. Ideally an all brick Ginormous construct with 20 acres to build a shooting range. On this budget that aint going to happen :-) Until then, find a nice house, build a pizza oven, install a hot tub and work on the permaculture solution. I'm surprised nobody in the home got killed either. How do you confirm the target is in the house, kick in the door, clear part of the house, get shot at, and NOT return fire. At that point they don't know they have the wrong man and he's just shot someone. WOW!1 point

I already lived out there once. I'd rather live in a camper on the West side than in a Mansion on the East side. Ironically I'm gypsing up Mt. Juliet this weekend. Lock ya doors, hide yo wife, hide yo kids!1 point

Yeah, I do all my ARs at 50 yard zero. Works fine for that, same spread as anything else I have up to 200 yards at least, the farthest I ever have got to shoot them. I suppose the original issue scopes for the AR15 must have been done same way or seems they would likely have been way off at 100 yards and more. I believe this was first military scope issued for the original AR, a Colt branded 3x20 ? - OS1 point

The MSRP for an AR these days isn't anything firm, unless the lower is stamped Colt or Daniel Defense. But you did get a great, great, deal on your first AR. You would be surprised at how many people do only the bare bones cleaning on their guns. It doesn't take too much time to give your weapon the love and attention it deserves and it actually relaxes me.1 point

That's all I have on both my AR's. Scopes and break and and red dot sights the battery can go down. Iron sights never fail.1 point

The thing I like the most is no on/off switch. I realize I can spend $400 and get an Aimpoint PRO to leave on but I just don't want to spend that much. :pleased:1 point
-
If you're going pure irons, might as well pick up a carrying handle to go completely retro. The only true advantages to a red dot are for targets <50 meters/yards, IMO. Anything further out requires the same fundamentals for either or. I really wish more people would start out shooting on iron sights, get the basics down, then transition to a red dot. But, this is the real world and people want to only do the cool things.1 point

The welcome to the party is a perfect piece by itself and i really like the dictator and the poster wasnt too bad on price either. I'm convinced that Google is Skynet from Terminator...they already do a boat load of contract work for the government "weapons, robots, detection systems, analysis, etc etc etc" so they are already laying the ground work. Now they are going to lay the infrastructure to support everything and boom...you have Skynet.1 point
-
I've got a few "irons" ARs... including the truck gun. You can get just as accurate, and damn near as fast with irons as a dot.... but it takes a LOT more work.1 point

The fact that we as Americans tolerate the garbage we put up with from the cable/telecom companies blows my mind. They've got all of our legislators bought off, and that's convenient as they skip towards monopoly status. I'd love to see someone other than Google challenging the status quo, but frankly a group like Google may be the only one with pockets deep enough to make a change.1 point

I think I posted earlier in this thread about this book, but I think Day of Wrath should be required reading for just about every American. IMO, probably a much more likely scenario than One Second After, and every bit as unsettling. It will make you :mad:1 point

In the five months since Jan Morgan banned Muslims from her gun range in Hot Springs, Ark., business has boomed and predictions of a lawsuit brought by federal civil rights enforcers have so far proved inaccurate. Morgan, who claims keeping Muslims out of her Gun Cave Indoor Firing Range is a matter of public safety and not a constitutional issue, says she made the decision in September after two customers she deemed suspicious visited. She said their furtive behavior and cellphone ringtones of “Allahu Akhbar” prompted her to revise her range’s policies. “We are dealing in lethal firearms,” Morgan told FoxNews.com. “I’m not going to let a Nazi shoot in here, or a Ku Klux Klan member in here, either.” Morgan said she excludes those she believes to be Muslim based on their names. She says business is up, but she has gotten threats, which she brushed off. “I’m not going to let a Nazi shoot in here, or a Ku Klux Klan member in here either.” - Jan Morgan, gun range operator But Morgan’s “no Muslims” stance has her in the legal crosshairs of at least two groups. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) wrote to Attorney General Eric Holder seeking the Justice Department’s involvement. “Given the recent spike in anti-Muslim rhetoric, including Islamophobic statements by government officials, community leaders and media outlets, death threats, and other bias incidents targeting Muslims, I urge you to investigate this matter soon,” a letter sent by CAIR to Holder in October stated. “CAIR believes that systematically banning Muslims from a place of business is a violation of federal laws prohibiting racial and religious discrimination and will inevitably result in a hostile environment for ordinary Muslims in Arkansas,” the letter added. The Justice Department did not respond to requests for comment on the matter. CAIR’s letter was copied to Gov. Mike Beebe, whose term has since ended, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas, and the ATF's Little Rock Field Office. CAIR’s litigation director told FoxNews.com none of the recipients has responded. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Arkansas also has petitioned federal authorities to do something about Morgan’s rules. Executive Director Rita Sklar told FoxNews.com Morgan’s claim the gun range was acting out of legitimate caution is a dog that doesn’t hunt. “It’s discrimination based on religion, or, in this case, perceived religion and is a violation of the 1964 Civil Rights Act,” Sklar said. “It isn’t based on that person’s behavior or anything they could reliably use that could be used to bar the person from the premises.” Sklar also said that while the ACLU chapter has not heard back yet from the DOJ, her group would be “more than happy” to proceed with legal action should a client approach them. “We would be happy to talk to anyone who had been turned away because he or she is Muslim or perceived to be Muslim,” Sklar said. “We would be more than happy to take her to court to get her to do the American, moral thing.” While no Muslim plaintiffs have stepped forward, a father and son who say they are Hindu claim they were kicked out last week. "My dad and I just got kicked out of a Muslim-free gun range," read a tweet from the man claiming to have been booted. "I'm not Muslim, I'm just brown." Legal experts say Morgan may be within her rights if her gun range is deemed a private club. Federal law bars discrimination or segregation in places of public accommodation or those that affect interstate commerce. In a legal challenge, Morgan might have to prove that her business does not fall under federal civil rights regulation. "Federal law forbids religious discrimination by places of public accommodations," said Cornell University Law School Professor Michael Dorf. Arkansas has a state law that does the same thing. Under the federal case law, in order for an entity to count as a private club, it must have some sort of restricted membership and not be generally open to the public. "A gun range that is generally open to the public but excludes Muslims - or any other group based on a forbidden classification - could not fairly say that everyone is a member except Muslims," Dorf added. Mark Killenbeck, a Constitutional law professor at University of Arkansas School of Law, said if Morgan is sued, she could have a hard time showing her gun range is a privvate club and not subject to the federal statutory ban on discrimination of the basis of religion. "The Court has held that truly private entities can engage in such discrimination but requires that they are truly and demonstrably private and that the club and its members have a 'common expressive purpose,'” he said. "There are ways that the owner might be able to make that claim, but I am skeptical." In the meantime, Morgan is not budging. She likened offering target practice to potential terrorists to flight schools offering lessons on simulators to the 9/11 terrorists. And because firearms are involved, she said her case is not analogous to cases in which private businesses have been sanctioned for refusing to serve other groups, such as gays. “One mistake can cost another human being’s life,” she said. “There’s no room for mistakes when you’re handling firearms. We aren’t just refusing to make a wedding cake here.” Morgan claims business has “quadrupled” with people from out of state coming to the range and some even offering donations for what they predict will be a legal battle. She also said she has been threatened, which she responded to by posting her home address on the range website and daring those issuing threats to do so in person. “I am the infidel your Imam warned you about,” Morgan wrote under an image of her packing heat. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/01/28/gun-range-ban-on-muslims-draws-fire/1 point

Islam is neither a race nor a religion. It is an ideology, one that promotes violence and death to those who refuse to convert to it. As such it is inherently evil and has no place in a free society. The now well-publicized interview by Sean Hannity with Muslim cleric Anjem Choudary revealed that he believes all "infidels" should die. Like many of you, I am firmly on Ms. Morgan's side of this issue. It has nothing to do with the Constitution, as the Bill of Rights only specifies what government can and cannot do.1 point

What firearm were you shooting the steel case from? If I'm not mistaken Academy branded ammo is actually Barnual, and generally good quality for what it is. I haven't shot Federal aluminum, but I've shot a ton of Blazer aluminum back when I could get it for $8/50. Never had a problem...but then again I've never had a problem with steel case either1 point

I'm pretty sure that ORNL has a Server Support position open, and I have a friend that works at Y12, I think he said they are also looking for server admins. At Y12 they have a thing where you have to go thru a Temp agency, like Tek Systems. If you work out after six months they hire you. Both would be cushy jobs - well paid and minimal overtime required. Oh, and Y12 works 4~10's, so Fridays off every week :up:1 point

Its more about bandwidth and not having data limits than actual speed at this point. My home network consists of: 3 Desktops 5 Laptops 3 Tablets 3 iPhones 1 Roku 1 Sony PlayStation We are heavy users. We do nearly everything via the internet. So 1 Gigabit is worth it for us. And to think when Comcast 100Mbps first came out, I was paying $200 a month plus taxes, etc. This will be a welcome service for a decent price if I can get it in my neighborhood! :woohoo:1 point

To be clear, I was not suggesting that TFA be our "sister org". I'm all for supporting them when it makes sense and think our members should be members of as many different pro-2A organizations as possible. But I would like to see TGO flex it's own muscle. Not for vanity's sake but because there need to be multiple voices saying the same things to our elected representatives. The same way that it's good that the NRA isn't the only voice in D.C. representing us (a la Gun Owners of America, NFA Freedom Alliance, Jews For the Preservation of Firearms Ownership, etc.). If all you ever hear as a politician is one voice, in a way it doesn't matter how loud that voice is. But if you're hearing several voices in varying degrees of "loudness" saying the same things, the message has a bit more impact. It's just too easy for them to dismiss one group as a bunch of fringe loons. It's harder to dismiss several groups of loons. ;)1 point
