Bob Bowen is a guy I work with. He is a great Building Automation Technician but is passion is photography. He just got back from Yellowstone. The highs were in the twenties and the lows at night were in signal digits. They found a fresh kill and set up cameras. After several hours the wolf pack returned and he got these pics. The black wolf was several hundred yards away. Bob said it was very rare to even get this close to a wolf pack. The link below is to Bob's photos. he gets a big kick when people visit his web site. Well first I must thank Grand Torino, and everyone else who has posted in the knives and bladed tools section, thanks for all the motivation and inspiration! It basically started when my Ginormous knife arrived and I was thinking you know I can do this... Well I got to say I got a lot to learn, but I grabbed an old Nicholson file that I had in my workshop, grab the propane torch and started annealing, and broken that harbor freight 1 x 30" grinder!! I started yesterday afternoon and this is what I've come up with about 24 hours later. I made a jig and started my grind. I made sure to leave some of the final marks on the ninth so we still look cool and the Nicholson name. I didn't really draw anything out I just kind I had an idea in my head. My drillpress arrives tomorrow and I've got scales there epoxying right now, so next will be attaching the scales and then massaging them into shape! What are y'all think? I'm certainly not going to give up my day job but this is really addicting I can tell already!!! Jim PS I heat treated the knife on the knife with a propane torch "well actually two at one time" Quinched in motor oil . I was impatient but hell already tested with a file and is good and hard!

Got my suppressor today, in from what I hear near record time. My Saker 556 can hooked up to my Sig gas piston SBR. Ready for a range visit!

I was gonna run the preview, but right before I started the install I had a better idea and went and crushed my nuts in a vise. It was way less painful. 

So I was down in Harriman, TN at a local pawn shop just browsing when I came across and AR smith and Wesson labeled as being a .223 for $600. I asked to look at it and in closer inspection it was a 5.56 smith and Wesson m&p 15. Troy rear flip sight and front A sight. Quard rail with a 30 round p mag and 6 position stock. It has some small scratches on the barrel but I could not pass up on the price. After showing her the scratches and how dirty it was she knocked it down to $502- $560 OTD with a box of ammo. I get home with it and do some research and it is a M&p15x which MSRP is $1300! She told me she had priced it herself off of what she saw online and she priced it as a Sport model. Then gun is in great shape all cleaned up (apart from the small scratches) and I am going to shoot it this Saturday. Any suggestions, comments, concerns for a first time AR owner?

Unfortunately it takes a company with the resources ($$) of Sig to butt heads with the government over such things.  Though it seems clear that someone well up in the hierarchy at Sig doesn't like the ATF and is intentionally pushing the boundaries.  :up:

Thanks Luke for all the tips....and for trying it first :rofl: I was more worried that once I got started, I would go with the wrong color for base coat, not like the design half way through, or have an image in my head and hate it on the rifle. So! I just started painting with no idea whatsoever in my head and went with it. I used Rustoleum flat camo in the following colors: Sand, Army green, and Dark Earth. Sprayed the crap out of it with brake cleaner and let dry. Tape over the trigger and serial number (Not sure why, but I did). First light coat of OD green After 2nd coat of OD green And here is the part where y'all get to cuss me for skipping pictures. (I know, I hate it too) But I got into it, and moved back and forth so many times, I would have had 100 pictures and probably forgot what I was trying to do in my head. So, I apologize in advance. :ugh: All that said, I am extremely happy. The finish is NOT shiny, which I did not want. The dull, flat look is great! Since I didn't take pictures of the leaf procedure (you can see them laying in the box), I will try to explain a little. Probably not much different than anyone else does though. I started with the two base coats of green. Then laid several of the little branches pretty much covering most of the rifle on one side. I sprayed several lines of the brown in different directions depending on how the leaves laid. I need to add that light leaves CAN be moved by the spray! GRRR So I had to adjust once I figured that out. I let that dry, flipped the rifle and repeated as close as I could remember on the opposite side. Then I grabbed the sand and laid about half the amount of leaves I used for brown on the rifle and sprayed 5 or 6 lines mostly vertical and a few on top and bottom of the rifle. I wasn't keen on keeping that much sand color although I love it, just thinking about my area colors. I wanted more green and brown. So I made one more trip around the whole rifle with brown (to break up some of the larger areas of sand color) and then green (A blending type action of all of the designs) again. I decided at the point above that I would stop where I was. Let me know what you think, and if you're pondering it, give it a shot!!

I just bought 25 acres and I really love this place!! At first my daughter and her husband were going to move here but they have changed their mind, so now I live here alone! I do have Rheumatoid Arthritis but I am determined!!! I desperately need a game plan!!! I paid cash for farm and new 4 wheel drive toyota fj but what should I do first- goats, chickens, orchard, fruit trees, I need a lot but I choose to buy without going in debt - I am debt free now! Any advice would be appreciated! The firearms and ammo is covered - and coyotes are an issue! Thanks for any advice!!!

Only caveat, has a round nosed bullet that may not feed in semi-autos. My Zastava M-85 likes this stuff. Especially when I paid $10/20...:(

Any new shooters that want to come out to the range but do not want to shoot the match--I will be there to run a "class". We will work on gun handling, drawing, reloading, and movement. The ever changing IDPA rules and the terms used. If you have any questions ask them here. Others are probably wondering to.

i joined a couple of weeks ago. the available spots at that time was around 300 if i recall correctly. as others have said, this is a VERY nice range. the long range rifle range goes out to 1250 (you have to attend a class and qualify). we were told there are plans in the works to add 1500 and 1750 distances. if you live anywhere within a reasonable drive, you really should check out this range.

I won't kick you while you're down, Tercel. I'm at roughly the same stage of life where play money isn't flowing as freely as I like. I'm getting a few guns a year, but not one every time I walk into a gun shop. Also, my wife is the saver, and I am the spender so yes, she usually stops my less-than sane purchase ideas before I get in trouble. While it's frustrating at times, I'm thankful for her. We are now debt free except our mortgage, which we are knocking down ahead of schedule and we always have money for food and necessities. On behalf of TGO, thanks for the heads up on a great pistol!

A pair of oven mitts from wal-mart's kitchen or grilling section works for me. I use one to handle the hot suppressor and simply drop it into the second for storage and transportation. Friend uses welding gloves, which seem to work just as well. Very similar to .mil barrel change gloves minus the asbestos, and much cheaper.

Yeah you'd probably burn yourself.   It gets HOT!  And quicker than you would expect.  Just keep in mind that the more you use the wrap, the more heat you are trapping in. 

A brake may change your POI some.  Different devices may affect it more or less.  That said, a good device should be repeatable so long as it's installed and clocked back to the same position.   You might be able to have a zero with the brake and a zero without the brake.

I never liked Win8 much. If they move back closer to 7 I might enjoy windows more. I at least want the option of a real start menu.

As has the dollar. Mt Gox was an obvious exception but in large part, many of the others (Like the Trendon Shavers thing) were scams that you only had to have your eyes open to avoid them.   If you have bitcoins and you store them properly, it's next to impossible for someone to take them from you.

  I have had one slam fire with no trigger in the trigger guard. It was a Saiga shotgun and I was dropping rounds in the chamber one at a time. I dropped the bolt and boom. Then I researched and there are warning about doing that exact thing. So I would also say the operators might want to learn about their gun because I had no clue until I had the slam fire. Luckily it was pointed in a safe direction but it did scare the crap out of me.

Unfortunately my wife is the other way around, I can't take her into a gun store.   Went into Dunham's in Clevland yesterday to look around and she kept asking me if I seen any I wanted to buy!   :ugh:   I can count at least four guns that I bought just because of her saying go ahead if that's what you want when I might have said maybe not to.   Btw I do love my P95 it is heavy and large but its a wonderful home defense gun that I known will go bang.

Both the Eotech and Aimpoint pro can be had in the $350 to $400, but you have to watch for sales from reputable retailers.  Many fakes from places like ebay.  I was able to grab the Eotech from Brownells on a special coupon when Eotech was having a $60 rebate, so I have a Eotech 512 for around $330.  Then the aimpoint pro came from Optics Planet with a special 10% off and free shipping.  I think I got it for around $360.  Both I acquired in early 2014.    Go with these and you will never 2nd guess your decision. 

These would not require tools. Complete upper and lower. Just plug and play. And add a rear sight. However, if you do happen to want to piece it together, I have the tools. I'm pretty particular about loaning tools, but I might make an exception. :) Or better yet, we could get together and assemble it. I've done several and haven't blown myself or anyone else up, yet.

  I was fishing when I learned from another angler that our country was under attack and loaded my boat on the trailer and headed for the house to learn more. I saw every gas station with cars lined out in the street with people panicking about fuel. I always have gas at the house so I didn't bother trying to get gas. I just wanted to get home. I have had three things I can remember exactly were I was at when I learn of and or felt bad news. The first was I was in 6th period study Hall at high school when we received word of Kennedy's assassination. In1969 I was about 7 clicks south of Chu Lai when I got shot and I was fishing when I learn of the 9/11 attacks. All in that order. There is some things you just don't forget................jmho

Yep.. I've met a few manatees. Though they all have terrible gas and are unpleasant to the olfactaries, they seem a nice bunch. Not like that turdsack.

Maybe in bulk, but otherwise it's an insult to the manatee.
