Well in all fairness, who hasn't wanted to shoot the TV...

I hope this doesn't muddy the waters, but I was in LE and went through all of this difficult thinkery after I retired. I had carried 1911's off duty for years but was never entirely comfortable with them because of the issues you gents have identified in this thread. Same with the Browning Hi Power I carried off duty for a similar period.  My solution, at least the one that fits me best, was to go with the CZ 75/85 design, which is a SA/DA design with a non-decocking manual safety and a "firing pin safety" or "drop safety." Since all of my LE training was on the DA/SA platform,  the CZ system was a natural, especially given its superior ergonomics. I really agree that I don't want anything to do with dropping a safety before I can fire a gun, so I carry my CZ's hammer- down DA.   The bonus for me is that if my arthritic hands ever get so arthritic that I can't handle the DA part, I can swallow my objections and carry the gun SA with the safety locked, and still have the protection of the drop safety. Also, I use the CZ 85B because of it's ambi safety levers for the same reason. Us DORF's (Dedicated Old Retired Farts)  have to think like this. :usa:   The striker fired guns offer some advantages, but aren't for me. Go for it if you like them, though.

I sent off my info to Nashville for my TN Lifetime Sportsmand License! With the new increase in license fees, it will pay for itself in 9-10 years so I am looking forward to that! My question is: how long does it take to get it? Being the procrastinater I am, Until it comes in, I won't be able to hunt my FIL's land. Fortunately, my dad has property that I can hunt without a license. Killed a turkey in his land last year. Anyways, I'm just excited and anxious to get everything in. If you are on the fence about getting a lifetime, now is a good time to do so since the fees won't be going up for a few months. If you buy low now, it will pay itself off faster once the rates increase.

It's just a training issue.  Disengaging a thumb safety is no more a "gross motor skill" than pressing a trigger, drawing from a holster, finding a sight picture, using a magazine release, or a bunch of other stuff you had better be able to do if you want to defend yourself with a gun.   I can't even pick up a drill anymore without "thumbing off a safety"...

  Well, there are some things you will want to bypass.  I recommending avoiding the "Cheaper Than Dirt" booth.     Man, that booth-worker looked very lonely at the 2013 show.  

In regard to the 1911: The grip safety blocks movement of the trigger. It is possable, although highly unlikely, that dropping the gun could "bounce" the hammer and sear out of engagement and cause the pistol to fire. The thumb safety blocks the sear from moving and essentially locks the mating surfaces of the hammer and sear together. In order for the hammer to fall and fire the pistol, something has to break.  The 1911 is properly carried Cocked and Locked. However, if you're going to do this, you must be willing to put in the time and practice to build the muscle memory so that releasing the thumb safety on the draw is an automatic, instinctive movement which requires no thought. on your part. If you aren't willing to do this, then you should not carry a 1911. I've been carring 1911s cocked and locked for about 30 years now. I have never had a ND nor have I ever found the thumb safety "accidently" swept off.     With DA/SA semi-autos I find a mechanical safety un-necessary. I believe these pistols are best carried with a round in the chamber, hammer down and the safety off. Here that long, heavy trigger pull of firing the first round is all that is neccesary. Just like a DA revolver.   I can't speak of striker fired pistols as I don't have any and likely never will. However, I have noticed that these designs do seem to have more than their fair share of negligent discharges attributed to them.    Just my opinions. YMMV 

Seriously, people are surprised?    Terrorism has already been used to erode protections from the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, & 8th Amendments, and they've gotten away with it spectacularly.  My only surprise is it's taken this long for the usual suspects to realize they can target the 2nd Amendment via terrorism.

  I have shot a little of it, before.  I stay away from the hyper-velocity Aguila (I heard a rumor they were going to stop making that, anyhow, to focus on their other products.)  The first time I shot any of it in my S&W 22A I didn't even get through a complete mag before a case ruptured and blew the extractor out of the slide, to hell and gone.  I have heard that much of the hyper-velocity .22 ammo from all manufacturers can be a little 'iffy' in some guns, though.  I haven't had any problems with the standard or high velocity stuff, though, and the Sniper Sub-Sonics are interesting to shoot from my old H&R revolver.     That was kind of what I was thinking as I was creating the post - that I couldn't believe I was excited enough about finding three danged 50 round boxes (and at over $4 a box, at that) actually on a shelf to post about it.  Such are current conditions, though.   I kind of predicted that .22 ammo would be involved in the (now current) craziness back before the craziness actually hit.  For that reason, I picked up as much extra .22 ammo as I could in the short time (maybe a month or two) between getting that 'feeling' and the actual 'shortage' hitting.  It was enough that I have a cushion but not a whole lot so I get excited when I find enough .22LR somewhere to feel comfortable digging into my stash and shooting some of my .22 handguns and rifles (basically being able to maintain a small stash by replacing what I shoot.)

I think it's pretty good ammo, especially at that price. When I first heard of it, I was thinking of it for my wife's Smith 417. Well, I found a couple of boxes, 50 rounds each,and got them. They all went bang, and seem a little hotter than most of the 22lr I've had recently. I'm happy with them, till I find something better anyway.

I think it took about a month to get my older boy's lifetime license and only 2 weeks for the younger one. 

Clarksville has wonderful opportunities, and with Land Between the Lakes right down the road with 2 big lakes and 1000's of acres of hunting, it is truly a sportsman's paradise. Middle Tennessee also puts you closer to Old Hickory, Percy Priest, and Ft. Campbell for some truly trophy whitetail. All we have in Crossville is retired yankees.

The B&C stock has the aluminum bed but I have thought about skim bedding it. It is nicely free floated. It was fun to shoot a couple sub .5 moa groups.

The only charges we've seen documented involve courtrooms and airports with one single exception...   A politician in Williamson County was charged for carrying into a school administrative building to attend an official meeting she was part of...  All indications are the charges are 'colored' by local politics.   We've heard rumors of other cases brought including the one mentioned about in Memphis, but the documentation on these cases (via court records or media reports) are non-existent.    I don't think anybody here would suggest breaking the law... although many of us have mistakenly and without knowledge walked passed signs or into gray areas...  for example, exactly which sidewalks in the Vandy area of town would be considered 'school property' and which ones public?  Does a hospital become 'school property' if a resident or medical student is in the hospital?  Does that just include the building they're in, or the entire hospital campus?  What if it's a visiting professor from the local medical college giving a lecture, but there are no medical students involved?   As you can see there are a lot of gray areas in TN firearm laws, ones I hope over the coming years we can work to clear up.   I think the reason you don't see more people charged, is because the vast majority of HCP holders are reasonable law abiding citizens, they don't intend to carry where they're not supposed to, and when asked by the owner, or law enforcement to leave they comply, therefore defusing the situation without the need of charges.   But, that doesn't mean we shouldn't work long and hard to reduce the number of areas law abiding citizens can't carry in...  because in reality restrictions on HCP don't reduce crime one bit...  If you feel comfortable with a police officer being armed at a location, you should feel more comfortable with your average HCP holder being armed there as well...  Stats just don't lie, law abiding citizens are convicted of felonies at a fraction of the rate of police officers, judges, politicians...  and are 5 times less likely to kill an innocent person in a justified shooting.    

Off the top of my head I would suggest the area around exit 268 on I-40 (Hwy 96.) You will be right close to the Caney Fork River and Center Hill lake which well give you good fishing for about any species Tn had to offer. I think about three counties come together there, if you want to deer hunt you want to be in Unit L, I believe one or two of those counties are in L, there are tons of deer in the area. A bear sighting there wouldn't be unheard of but there are no bear hunting opportunities in that part of the state. You will be about an hour and 15 minutes to Nashville and 2 hours or so to Knoxville. Closest Wal-Mart is Carthage I believe which is about ten miles. This area has some of the cheapest land I've seen in the state. Feel free to pm me with specific questions, I've lived, fished, and hunted all over this state.

That's due mostly to dumbasses who can't keep the stupid finger off the trigger and that can happen with ANYTHING no matter what the design.

I think the 168s will be ok but I do plan to try some 155s when I get to that point. I was surprised the 175s shot the best groups. I definitely want to stretch the distance to see how the results hold up.

Had a good opening morning trying to get a young boy his first turkey. Had a big longbeard come in and strut past the blind as close as 5 years at times, but the boy couldn't get the gun on him when he was far out enough to shoot. Still it was cool to experience it with him and his dad. This morning I wasn't sure I would make it out, but mustered the will on just a few hours sleep. Went solo this morning and set up in the woods close to where the birds had roosted the day before. Worked out perfect. I had two gobblers to my left and two to my right, about 100 years apart, me in the middle. At fly down they all come together in front of me but hung up about 80 yards out. Took me till 7:30 to get them in range. This one was the lead bird.

Yup, Mike and Tricky nailed it. I've never been to an NRA show, but have been to a couple NAMM shows and I'm pretty sure I'll never have to buy another guitar pick for the rest of my life!

Benton shooting is the worst place to buy anything. Their prices are higher over any other place. Good place to look at guns. Not a place to buy. It is in the middle of no where. But they got to pay for their big nice building and paved parking lot.

I'm definitely looking forward to checking out our own Jeff Meister's display of 1911s. Many of you remember him from his Hero 1911s. He's been in Texas for the last couple of years working on starting up the Republc Forge. Everything I've seen has been gorgeous. He's going to be in #1063.
