  1. Handicap parking Today I had to go to the hardware store. As I approached the entrance, I noticed a driver looking for a parking space. I flagged the driver and pointed out a handicap parking space that was open and available. The driver looked puzzled, rolled down her window and said, "I'm not handicapped!" Well, as you can imagine, my face was red! "Oh, I'm sorry," I said. "I saw your "I'm Ready for Hillary" bumper sticker and just assumed that you suffer from a mental disorder." She screamed some nasty names at me. Boy!  Some people don't appreciate it when you're just trying to help them out!

  2. If you realize each day is a gift, you may be near my age.    My Twilight Years ~ Clint Eastwood As I enjoy my twilight years, I am often struck by the inevitability that the party must end.   There will be a clear, cold morning when there isn't any "more."         No more hugs, no more special moments to celebrate together, no more phone calls just to chat. It seems to me that one of the important things to do before that morning comes, is to let every one of your family and friends know that you care for them by finding simple ways to let them know your heartfelt beliefs and the guiding principles of your life so they can always say, "He was my friend, and I know where he stood."   So, just in case I'm gone tomorrow, please know this:       I voted against that incompetent, lying, flip-flopping, insincere, double-talking, radical socialist, terrorist-excusing, bleeding heart, narcissistic, scientific and economic moron currently in the White House!    Participating in a gun buy-back program because you think that criminals have too many guns is like having yourself castrated because you think your neighbors have too many kids.    Regards, Clint

  3. Yesterday I went and splurged a little on a couple guns. I picked up an 870 Police Magnum and bought all the Magpul furniture which I'll post some pics of later. I was in the market for a good ol' bolt action .22. I found a Savage Mark II FV-SR. It has a 16.5" threaded barrel which I plan to suppress one day. I matched It with a Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 Rimfire scope with a BDC reticle. It is meant for a 50 yard zero and drops 75, 100, 125 and 150 yards. I took it out on the "back forty" this morning along with my saw horse bench and sandbags. I started shooting federal bulk through it at 50 yards and worked it in to a closer group and then switched to 36 grain HP Mini Mags to close in my group. The pic below is 4 shots all connected at 50 yards from the bench and the top is a shot from 75 yards through the first reticle below 50 which I squeezed a little high. I could not be more impressed with this rifle and scope. It only came with the 5 round mag which did get a little annoying while on the bench but I have 3 10 rounders on the way. I am glad to add it to the family.

Makes me wish my lease didn't prohibit pets...maybe some of you folks are on the lookout for a new pet.  Please share as you see fit.     http://wkrn.com/2015/07/31/metro-animal-control-waives-adoptions-fees-after-reaching-capacity/   NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Metro Animal Care and Control is at capacity and is waiving adoption fees for all cats and dogs beginning Saturday.   Currently there are more than 200 pets in need of homes at the shelter located at 5125 Harding Place.   “Our shelter is completely full and every single pet here deserves a warm bed, a loving family and a place to call home,” said Metro Animal Care and Control spokeswoman Rebecca Morris.   All animals will be spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated before going to their forever home. Adopters should bring a valid form of identification, proof of address and a copy of their lease agreement and pet policy if renting. 6.   I'd not go quite that far. Arguing law with an officer on the street rarely results in an "oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know that. Thank you for furthering my education on the finer points of firearms law in the State of Tennessee. have a nice day!" Remember that this is just the AG's legal opinion. It is not case law. Even if you beat the rap, you may not beat the ride. Everyone has to ask themselves if carrying in what we think (and what the AG apparently thinks) is an OK area, but the local LEOs say otherwise, is worth the cost and hassle of fighting the charge? It seems that the plain reading of the law, and now the AG's opinion, would be on your side, but you just never know what a judge may decide. Then you have to appeal if you lose. How far are you as an individual willing and able to take that costly legal fight?

  7. Pm me your address. I will send you a trigger kit for you to install.   Under an inch at 100 yards is very good for an AR, depending on the ammunition used. The weak link in AR accuracy is ammunition followed by the miserable milspec trigger.

  9. It's been a long time coming, been slowly assimilating myself as a real Southerner and getting rid of all things that make me look like a city boy New Yorker that I am. (Well, except New York Rangers stuff, still a hockey fan...) Traded in my dangerously modified Mustang for a F250 Super Duty Lariat...sad part is, all the work I put into my V6 Mustang was undone as the 6.4L Powerstroke is turbo'ed and even stock it dyno'ed faster than my Mustang. Guess I'll be able to eat something besides Ramen this winter! For some odd reason driving a Mustang in the snow isn't a good idea :yum: The wife already said the truck was hers (to include the pistols, the SBR and the shotgun). I can't ever have nice things! 13. RF Jammers are illegal, banned by the FCC and the use of a jammer in the US carries a very heavy fine. Also many drones don't need signals other than the GPS signal from the sats, mine will go into auto pilot, retrace it's steps and land from where it took off from originally. So that's a just another quick way to end up in hot water much like this guy who shot this one down. Even if a drone pilot breaks the law by flying somewhere they shouldn't it doesn't give you a license to break the law to stop them. Pick up your phone, dial 911, and record the incident if you can safely.   http://www.cnet.com/news/man-put-cell-phone-jammer-in-car-to-stop-driver-calls-fcc-says/   http://www.cnet.com/news/truck-driver-has-gps-jammer-accidentally-jams-newark-airport/

He was asking about "real" guns so after getting his mother's permission I showed it to him, showed him how to disassemble it and we got this picture while we were at it. 21. It's no wonder today's generation are so soft. The most dangerous thing they get to play with is a cell phone or a video game controller. They grow up to be the kind of men who call roadside assistance to install a spare tire in their OWN driveway or hire a contractor to build their kids a tree house. That is...IF they hang around with baby-momma long enough to actually see their kids grow up.

  22. Darsk hits on something that don't happen much anymore. Weapons for kids to play with. I had more swords, machetes, throwing stars, nunchucks, and the like than you could haul in a wheel barrow. There was a gun store close to where my great grandfather was in the nursing home. I was maybe ten. I use to ride with granny to visit her dad and she'd take me places afterwards. I went in the gun shop and they had a Monadnock PR24s. I had the money but the guy wouldn't sell it to me. Not selling it wasn't a big deal, laws are laws you know but the guy was a douche about it. We went to Wendy's and gto a burger and granny seen how sad I was and drove back there, went in and bought it. I was standing outside, she walked out the door, handed it to me, that was the end of that. The look on the guy's face was priceless. I gave him my best *neener neener* with a :poop: eatin' grin. Thanks granny.

  23. I read this on another forum a long time ago, and it is still one of the funniest things I've ever read. Around age 10 my dad got me one of those little bad-ass compound bow beginner kits. Of course, the first month I went around our land sticking arrows in anything that could get stuck by an arrow. Did you know that a 1955 40 horse Farmall tractor will take 6 close range rounds before it goes down? Tough sumbich. That got boring, so being the 10 yr. old Dukes of Hazzard fan that I was, I quickly advanced to taking strips of cut up T-shirt doused in chainsaw gas tied around the end and was sending flaming arrows all over the place. Keep in mind this was 99.999% humidity swampland so there really wasn't any fire danger. I’ll put it this way- a set of post hole diggers and a 3 ft. hole and you had yourself a well. One summer afternoon, I was shooting flaming arrows into a large rotten oak stump in our backyard. I happened to look over towards the carport and see a shiny brand new can of starting fluid (ether). The light bulb went on. I grabbed the can and set it on the stump. I figured it would probably just spray out in a disappointing manner. Let’s face it…to a 10 yr. old mouth-breather like me ether really doesn't "sound" flammable. So, I went back into the house and got a 1 pound can of black powder for muzzle loader rifles. At this point, I set the can of ether on the stump and opened up the can of black powder. My intentions were to sprinkle a little bit around the ether can but it all sorta dumped out on me. No biggie, 1 pound of black powder and a 16 oz can of ether should make a loud pop kind of like a firecracker, You know what? Fight that! I'm going back in the house for the other can. Yes, I got a second can of black powder and dumped it too. Now we're cookin'. I stepped back about 15 feet and lit the 2 stroke soaked arrow. I drew the nock to my cheek and took aim. Upon releasing the arrow I heard the sound of a car door closing as the arrow sped its way to my target. In what can only be described as the slow motion frame by frame advancement on a VCR, I turned to see my dad getting out of the truck. SHEET…he just got home from work. As God is my witness it took 10 minutes for that arrow to reach the can only 15 feet distant. I see my dad walking towards me with a *** look in his eyes. I turned back towards my intended target just in time to see the arrow pierce the starting fluid can right at the bottom, right through the pile of black powder and into the can. When the shock wave hit it knocked me off my feet. I don't know if it was the actual concussion from the blast or the 235 fighting decibels of sound that laid me out. I do recall a milliseconds glimpse of the violence during the initial explosion and I will tell you there was dust, grass, and bugs all hovering 1 foot above the ground as far as I could see. It was like a low layer of a dust based fog full of grasshoppers, spiders, ants, earthworms and a crawfish or two. The daylight turned purple. Let me repeat this...THE FIGHTING DAYLIGHT TURNED PURPLE. There was a big Sweetgum tree out by the gate going into the pasture. Notice I said "was". That mo-fo up rooted and ran off. So here I am, on the ground, blown completely out of my shoes with my Thunder Cats T-shirt shredded, eyebrows singed with my dad on the other side of the carport having what I can only assume is a Vietnam flashback. ECHO BRAVO CHARLIE YOUR BRINGIN' EM IN TOO CLOSE!! CEASE FIRE GOD DANG IT…CEASE FIRE!! His hat has blown off and is 30 ft. behind him in the driveway. All the windows on the north side of the house are blown out and there is a slow rolling mushroom cloud about 200 feet over our backyard. We had a Honda 185s 3 wheeler parked on the other side of the yard. The fenders are drooped down from the heat and are now touching the tires. I wish I knew what I said to my dad at that moment but I truthfully don't know - I know I said something. But I couldn't hear, my ears were ringing so loud I couldn't even hear inside my own head. I don't think he heard me either...not that it would have really mattered. The fact is I don't remember much from this point on. It's all very foggy. I said something, felt a sharp pain, and then woke up later. I felt a sharp pain, blacked out, woke later.... this happened for an hour. I remember at one point my mom had to give me CPR. And I do recall hearing dad say something to the effect of “bring him back to life so I can kill him again”. But I’m told I was just hallucinating. Thanks mom. One thing is for certain...I never had to mow around that stump again. Mom had been *****ing about that thing for years and dad never did anything about it. I stepped up to the plate and handled business. Dad sold his muzzleloaders a week or so later, we got some new windows, and that quad I'd wanted for some time. And to this day I still have some sort of bone growth abnormality either from the blast or the beating, maybe both. I guess what I'm trying to say is, get your kids into archery. It's a good discipline and will teach them skills they can use later on in life. Sent from the backwoods

  24. highergr0und;   I understand your concern or trepidation about taking a formal class early in your learning experiences, but believe my friend, this is the time to do so.   Training "scars", ingrained deficiencies from repetition of less than correct acts, are easily developed in our beginning stages of learning. It takes a lot longer to "unlearn" a way of doing something than to learn the correct manner in the beginning...ask me how I know.   I only wish I had the opportunities available now, and locally/regionally when I started my oft interrupted journey. Back then we had Cooper (Gunsite), Ray Chapman (Chapman Academy) and Mas Ayoob (LFI)...   Quality instruction is available quite handily now days.   I admit bias, as I've know Randy (Cruel Hand Luke) for a number of years and have trained with him several times. But Randy is definitely an instructor well worth your consideration. He has a gift for imparting quality information and helping you build the skills you need and do so correctly in the beginning.   We had a gentleman attend the recent rifle class in the Knoxville area that had purchased his AR only a couple of days before the class and fired it there his first time. He did great under Randy's tutelage.   While I'm not trying to be a commercial for Mr. Harris, I wholeheartedly recommend him when your time and schedule allows. True value for your training time and dollars. :2cents:

Call me crazy, but I can actually feel the 1.5" difference missing from the OAL. Enough of that, on to some specs. -14.5" 1/8 twist Faxon Firearms mid length medium profile barrel with 11 degree crown. -pinned and welded strike industries Venom -ARMS polymer BUIS (probably changing) -12" MI quad rail -Mega "tactical" adjustable trigger (I'll withhold recommending it until I have several rounds down range with it) I'm undecided on optics. I'm contemplating an Acog but it's hard for me to commit to. I go back and forth between a red dot/magnifier combo, acog, and a vortex 1-4. Here are some very rough pictures of the process of pinning and the final product. I used high temp paint that's designed for engine blocks and is chemical resistant to paint over the weld. I purposely left some weld just in case I run into an overzealous agent of our dear government. And a small AR group picture, because why not Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

How about I buy a drone, hover it 5 feet from your wife's or daughter's bedroom window? How would you feel about that?

  33.   A six foot fence is a reasonable measure to assure privacy from average passers by on foot. To say that a 6' privacy fence is a "reasonable measure" to prevent aerial photography from public airspace is a huge leap. At my other house it's not uncommon to have photographers lurking on the beach at all hours (all the beaches in that state are public) trying to catch someone famous that apparently has a house a few hundred yards down the beach from ours. I've talked to the sheriff, so long as they don't step foot on my property not a damn thing I can do, sure I could put up a 30' foot wall to block any nosey photographers from shooting my hot tub from the dunes but then I couldn't see the dunes and beach from my hot tub either. It's just something I've had to learn to live with.

  35. I would conceal but know that I am legal when I am carrying at those places.  By concealing, your carrying would probably never be an issue.  At worst, you'd probably be asked to leave.  No point in arguing with someone on the street that you are supposed to be allowed entry into a location when armed unless you have an attorney that can help you.  I think most police are understanding of people with handgun carry permits but if you just blatantly start arguing and do not leave, then that is when things become difficult without legal counsel.  I think your attitude will determine a lot of how the police deal with you if someone notices your gun at one of these recreational properties.  I hope we don't have a lot of attention seekers with cameras and microphones purposefully going to the locations to start stuff with the police.  Remember, the media is not on our side with this issue unlike other social issues.

  41. If it is for a 22, or any other caliber, I would take a very hard look at the Nikon P-22. It has 1/2 MOA adjustments which makes adjustments on the fly quicker especially a 22 at long distance. You can find them for 200 regularly and I have seen them on sale for $140. Another feature is you can have custom BDC turrets made. They also have a BDC program that is available online or as an app.

  44.   I was thinking that when the video came out on YouTube of the Drone firing a pistol. It can't be much harder to rig a drop mechanism for a grenade or other explosive. For that matter, turning one into a flying fire bomb should be all too easy as well.   And never mind ISIS and the like... Folks want to lose their minds over "evil guns" and mass-shootings... what happens when the stuff we're talking about gets tried out by people who like to use theaters, schools, and churches as targets of opportunity?   And I'm equally sure that somebody's going to get the idea to fly something into a prison or jail that doesn't need to be there, eventually.   So, it seems to me that the general public might have a whole new inanimate object to blame for what people do, pretty soon.   Who knows... it might be kind'a nice to see something other than firearms catch the blame for the mayhem, for a change.

  45. 1. - Apples and Oranges.  Especially since we both know that depending on exactly where the trespasser is, they may automatically be considered a threat, according to TN law. ( Anybody remember the off-duty deputy a few years back that was on the front porch of a house he didn't own, and was shot by the home owner through the door?  How'd that turn out? )   Also... TN allows for the use of force - but not lethal force - to terminate simple trespass.   2. - Since a drone isn't alive, no amount of force used against it can be considered "lethal". It's not alive, so it's nothing worse than property damage.  The only trouble that will come is from such things as firing a gun where it's illegal, or endangering others.   One way or the other, we're not discussing shooting humans here... only their toys.

Yet these people don't seem to care that we can walk into a store, buy as much ammo as we want, pay cash, and sans being recorded on store cctv remain anonymous. I really think they are looking for a solution for a problem that doesn't exist.
