The woods were good to me again today. That makes two tasty does since Sunday. One more & I'll start seriously looking for a good buck.

Goofy 6 point and a doe both within an hour of each other. Been deer hunting for about two years and these are my first kills. What a thrill. Can't wait to eat them!

Well...that was interesting.   Good selection of facts and some fiction. Just how strong are they, and how strong is our resolve to fight them?   That, I think, is the core question.   At one time, I would have answered that easily. But with the political appeasement climate of today, and our leadership sticking their collective heads in the sands(poor choice of words or prophetic?) in denial; I am not so certain any more.   The will to fight is not in doubt when speaking of ISIS or any of the Islamic groups. Granted it is not the type of war our leadership wants, and some say even wants to attempt to engage in.   But it is the war we are faced with, and the learning curve in Washington must change...and quickly, or we will be lost.

I picked up this... A LT OBR. I am a little excited about this one. Now I have to buy a bunch of goodies for it.

I want to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving! For some of you that will mean being surrounded by friends and family. For others it may mean being surrounded by your brothers and sisters in the military, police, or civilian emergency services. And yet for others it may simply mean some time alone. If alone-time is what it means, I pray that it is because that's the way you want it. If not, I would encourage you to seek out company at the many churches and civic organizations who will be opening their doors to the public tomorrow for a warm meal and some time of fellowship. Do not spend it alone because you think no one cares. So, I've been building this for a while - finally made it to the range to test it out. Specs: Barreled action is bone-stock taken off a Savage 10fp in .308 win. 24" barrel, accutrigger Bolted directly into a KRG Alpha 180 stock Accurate Mag 10rd magazine Burris XTRii 3-15x50 SCR-Mil Weaver 20moa base Harris Bipod up front, in Krylon OD green Ammo was rolled up by a buddy - 41.6gr h4895 175gr nosler hpbt 2.800 COL Took it out to the range to get some time behind it and get my initial feelings on it. Where it excels: Comfort - jeez this thing fits me like a glove. Small palm swells, perfectly straight and smooth front strap on the grip, panels are perfectly grippy. Flex - next to none. Didn't have a good way to load the bipod, and sitting had some bounce. Expect it to be problem free when prone Recoil - low. Very manageable. The stock isn't that heavy, nor is the barreled action. It's definitely not super light though, I'm not walking through the woods all day with this one unless I absolutely have to. Where it needed work: Feeding - the magazine needed some tweaks, burrs on the feed lips were sanded off, the feed lips needed slight spreading, and the follower had to be lightly adjusted for the last round. After those, no problems whatsoever Reaching the safety - wasn't as easy in this stock as in the factory tupperware. Not extreme, but was a bit of a stretch. Elevation adjustment - going to have to reset the zero stop on the scope, factory is set (per the manual) 20 moa below center, I'll need to adjust that out, or remove the 20moa rail. Probably don't need the rail, what with the amount of adjustment available (over 30mil) Where I need work: About .75moa, if you don't count the flyer. Shot six 5 shot groups, all just like it. Didn't bother with trying to zero the scope, was on paper and wanted to see what it could do. Every time I pulled the 5th shot of the group. Note to self - slow down, follow through, stop rushing to get up on the last shot. Also, might do a little better without gloves. Just enough wind to nip at my fingers, so they were on from the start. Finally, it was a lovely clear cool day, and now it's a great clear cool night. If you don't want to go out and see it yourself, there's the moon. Shot with a Nikon D3100 and a Tamron 70-300. 1/40s f32 from my backyard. Not the best pic ever, had a bit of fog on the lens because I wasn't waiting for the lens to acclimate. T-shirts and 30-something degrees. Brr.

Picked up a bottle of Corner Creek on Mikes recommendation. I went for wine and always take a swing through the bourbon and whiskey. There it was for under $30 so I grabbed one. Took a snoot and have to say it's very good. I'm gonna enjoy this one.

You can get a pair of Mechanix gloves for $15 on Amazon.  Same thing, but I guess you can't be a serious operator with a pair gloves you bought at Lowe's.  LOL!     I like Magpul products though.  Good for them, make that money boys!!  A hefty margin on gloves might mean I can keep buying Pmags for dirt cheap.  

I am 100% confident in our Military up to a certain level. Our fighting men and women are the best there is in my book.  Our rank and file Lower level commanders also I have respect for but anything beyond that I begin to become skeptical about. They are the Arm Chair Staff and where politics enters into war in which they have no business being. Wars are won on the Battle Fields and not in plush arm chairs in some plush office. This began back during the Korean War and until we get politics out of war we will continue to see our military deteriorate in increasing numbers.   Since becoming President Obama has practically removed all of our best leaders of our military in all 4 branches and replaced them with far less adequate leadership and far more a$$ kissing Mr President  personnel.   That is why our Military is called weak. We are not weak as willing to fight to protect our great America. Our President is weak and he has placed weak leadership with in the ranks of our military. He promised change and we damn sure got it!!!!   I agree with Comms on the fact that we will have to have a few attacks on our soil to get the attention needed for our Government to wake up but I also fear if Obama is still in office that any attacks will be called work place related incidents just as Fort Hood, the Naval Base, And training Center in Chattanooga was. The man will never admit they are terrorist attacks by Radical Islamic Muslim Terrorists............jmho

The crazy bastards had less than a company sized element in Sinjar when almost 20K Kurds rolled them up - they fought to the last man against insurmountable odds. You have to admit they have a fierce warrior spirit - granted Sinjar was nothing to them, they already had broken it, it was more a "feel good" campaign for the Kurds to take it back. Now with Turkey shooting down SUs and Russia running a smear campaign against them and Obama bickering at Putin for carpet bombing "moderate rebels" we are going to be fighting another type of battle while ISIS shores up their cells. Remember the Caucuses, Balkans, parts of the PacRim, Boko Haram in West Africa and now parts of Al-Shabad in East Africa and the other affiliates in the Gulf States all have pledged allegiance. How often do we screen a few Asian guys flying into LAX? Or a couple of Africans coming into ATL? Or some Chechens or Slovenians coming into JFK? The brand is far reaching. Playing them off like the Taliban, AQAP or Al Nusra is a grave underestimate of their capability and fanaticism.   I always find this viewpoint intriguing (seriously).  Personally, I can't imagine limiting myself to only places I can get to by car.  The world is a big place and has a lot to see/do.  I personally think that if more people would see more of the world they may have a different view on a lot of things.     A cruise is a great way to see multiple locations very cheaply in the grand scheme of things.  Don't get me wrong, if you are happy not going, I would say don't go.  But I have met very few people who once they went truly didn't like it.  Yes, you can have a bad vacation for various circumstances doing anything, but I believe people are missing out on some of the most amazing places in the world if you take a stance of never flying.     To each his own.  That's what makes the world go round  :up: .

If you are trying to get an HCP here and the county clerk (or the equivalent) in the country where you were arrested says they don’t have anything; I would call the TBI and see what they tell you. Obviously you were arrested, apparently you were not charged. I would guess your problem is that arrest records were sent to the Feds, but “Dismissed” was never sent. No one gets rid of arrest records; especially one that is only five years old, I don’t think you have talked to the proper person there. FOIA isn’t going to do you any good; you need someone that can do follow-up. If the TBI can’t tell you what agency is reporting; I would try this next.  

Sorry Comms, but I highly disagree.  We have one of the best militaries ever fielded with some of the most sophisticated equipment ever.  We can, and as you said, have kicked ass and taken names on two major fronts and many smaller ones.  So the problem is not our fighting spirit, its the spineless government (and some military) leadership we currently have.  I don't know what's going on in your current unit, but in ours, we have been prosecuting the war since right after 9/11 in most of the familiar places and some unknown ones as well as dealing with some that are either not cut out for it or do something stupid to get themselves kicked out.  I expect the 101st has been doing the same, alongside many other divisions, so don't let a few bad examples cloud your opinion.

I have a few different brands of gloves issued to me at one point or another.  I had a pair like the breach and didn't like them, the plastic knuckles just got in the way.  The pair I like are ones from Camel-Bak, once Southwest Motorsports, which I won in a drawing at one of the fishing tournaments.  They are not as padded as the Mechanix brand, at least their older ones, but the material is thick enough to protect while thin enough for dexterity.

We have intermittent outages here from time to time and I hate it cause my coffee maker does not have a battery back up and I get up to no coffee. If the power comes back on and the timer has a backup it will make coffee. I have to fire up camp stove and do it the old fashion way if it does not come on before I wake up. Last time I did that the power came back on before the camp stove completed the coffee. I am going to buy a new coffee maker with a battery back up so it keeps the timer working instead of going to all flashing zeros. I know it still won't make coffee unless the power comes back on but at least I won't have to keep resetting the damn thing. I am not a nice guy till after my second cup in the morning............. :wall:

Anyone reasonable could agree that: big > small more > less It's just that IMO, what would matter for most folks is that more trumps big... because it's one thing to shoot at a piece of paper that doesn't move and another entirely to shoot a person... especially one that's trying to kill you. I've never been in that situation, but I've had "buck fever" before and as bad as that is, it's gotta be way worse under the kind of stress where you feel you might die soon. Which leads to misses, and frequently a lot of them. That might be the one thing that stories do tell us that is beneficial, even LEO guys who train regularly, and are in stressful situations more frequently than your average Joe miss under distress... best to have as much as you can. Which is the main reason I've been thinking about ditching the XDs (.45) I have and going with maybe a larger gun.... in .40 since that's what the rest of my pistols shoot. But what do I know...

Retired now but flew multiple times a week for years. The most surreal flights were the ones right after 911. My first post 911 flight, two weeks after, had 7 passengers! As soon as we leveled off a middle eastern looking fellow got up and was in the toilet forever! The six of us left in the cabin started making some serious eye contact! Then after landing in New Orleans I went to check into a normally buzzing downtown hotel. I was the only one in the entire lobby and almost never found a checkin clerk! The whole surreal trip felt like an episode out of "The Twilight Zone"! : / Safe travels!

... to be clear, my wife was a scholarshipped D1 Volleyball player.  She CAN shoot .40  .... she just doesn't like it.   I don't have the same issue, but I certainly respect her in it.

Shot my biggest ever doe this afternoon. A buddy & I went to his place to set another ladder stand up & she wandered out 350yds into a field, daring me to take a pop at her. I obliged. The 6.5 Berger VLD did the business. I don't have a scale to weigh her, but after dressing out it took both of us to get her in the back of Tracey's truck!

I've been using it for the last few years and will keep using it. It doesn't score the highest marks for corrosion resistance or cleaning, but it does a good enough job at both that considering it's multiple uses for other hobbies and around the house, it makes a lot of sense to have a can or three around. I use it on my locks at home ,just spray a little on the key and work it in and out and turn it a few times, on my weather seals for car and home, obviously on my guns,on my belt, holsters kydex or leather) , and I've found it;s a great item for the guitar player as well. I spray a little bit on my nuts and then a bit on about an inch of the strings where they rest in the slots. It makes a great fretboard cleaner and I have even used it to clean up a pair of old strings rather than replace them, didn't make them like new, but I got a few more days out of them.   I still keep some hopes around and use it for nstalgias sake mostly. I also still keep a few other oils and greases, and foaming bore cleaner as well, but for most things the balistol does well enough that I don't give the potential performance of alternatives much thought.

Chickens are great. Nothing like fresh eggs from your own chickens. This is my dad's setup. The nesting boxes have latched doors on the outside so eggs can be gathered from the outside, and right inside the door there is a 2 ft space, then a wall built from lumber and chicken wire. The water and feed goes in the space and the chickens can easily reach there heads through for both, but don't knock it over and mess in it so bad. Walk in doors for cleaning are a huge plus. This one is built out of Oak lumber. We cut the timber, then used a band mill to turn it into lumber and build the bate and board style coop. Sent from the backwoods
