2. I'm a devout Christian.  Growing up I was always taught (as I'm sure most of you were) that one of the reasons some of the original people that made the trip to this continent was to seek a place where they could practice their religious beliefs without persecution.  We all know that many of the laws our founding fathers put in place was to protect freedom of religion.     I make all of the obvious statements above to say this.  It has puzzled me that some "Christains" have gotten so offended when other religious groups want to have equality.  Or maybe not equality but are seeking a society that isn't so dominated by Christianity.    Many say "you can't pray in schools anymore!"  I prayed openly in school and was never persecuted or told I couldn't.  If a muslim teacher started every class with a muslim prayer or religious practice there would be an absolute up uproar by some "Christains" but they expect other religions to just sit quietly in the back ground when we have some public religious ritual.    The whole "Christian Nation" thing is a little far fetched too.  Were many of the founding fathers Christians?  Absolutely, but not all.  It doesn't take much reading of the writings of Thomas Paine to see that guy was not a biblical christian (I don't know that he ever claimed to be).    I absolutely believe that if, as a nation we fell on our knees and repented of our sins and cried out to God for his love, grace and mercy that we'd be in a much better state... But I just don't see that happening as a nation.  I don't understand how people can expect things to get better (in a christian since) when we are promised persecution.  And not just that but many of the same people that grumble about these things don't live a life anything like what Christ was like, or even try!  Going to church and walking an isle doesn't make you a christian.  If you don't believe me go read the bible.  We've got it made in America, Christain persecution is at an all time high across the world but most of us here in the states don't even appreciate the freedom we have.    I will fight to protect our religious freedoms but not in a venomous or hateful way.  If we want a "Christian Nation" then we need to enforce laws that restrict the practice of other religions... but thats not what America is about.  I'm not really sure what America is about these days becuase it's not the place I grew up being taught it was.  I think if "christians" continue to lash out in hateful ways with exaggerated responses to certain things then we are only going to quicken the persecution and increase our enemy base.  We are to publicly BUT humbly make our stand and hold fast to what we know is true.  Christ reserved his venom for the religious hypocrits that claimed to be on the outside what they were NOT in their hearts.  He loved the sinners and pointed them in the right direction telling them to repent.    I'm not wanting to start a heated argument and won't participate in one.  I'm not argguing that swearing someone in on the koran is the right thing to do either.  I agree with Tricky, Hand on the constitution because regardless of religion, that should be something we're united on.  Just some thoughts and my opinion.  I welcome discussion and will gladly agree to disagree.

 7. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/marine-senator-won-give-guns-article-1.1233050     Senator Dianne Feinstein, I will not register my weapons should this bill be passed, as I do not believe it is the government's right to know what I own. Nor do I think it prudent to tell you what I own so that it may be taken from me by a group of people who enjoy armed protection yet decry me having the same a crime. You ma'am have overstepped a line that is not your domain. I am a Marine Corps Veteran of 8 years, and I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one. I am not your subject. I am the man who keeps you free. I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve. I am not your peasant. I am the flesh and blood of America. I am the man who fought for my country. I am the man who learned. I am an American. You will not tell me that I must register my semi-automatic AR-15 because of the actions of some evil man. I will not be disarmed to suit the fear that has been established by the media and your misinformation campaign against the American public. We, the people, deserve better than you.   Edit:  Ooh-Rah! :usa:

 11. Proper answer to this line of cr@p:  "If you won't even protect your own children, why do you expect others to do it?"   Seriously, this woman thinks that she is protecting her children from 'guns'.  But she will not take any steps whatsoever to protect them from someone who intends to do them harm.  I cannot think of a more flawed logic than that.   When our son was young, I had a woman in our church ask us whether we had guns before a church group outing.  I answered "Yes, we think that our son is too precious to be left without someone to defend him against evil.  How about you?"  The conversation turned ugly after that.  Liberals hate logic, you know.

 12. So your saying that they shouldn't have the right to do that, or somehow that is the reason this country is going downhill?  Sorry, don't buy it.   Funny how everyone get's up in arms about the 2nd Amendment, but when the 1st doesn't suit them, it's all the other religions or someone else's fault.  I may not like Obama's policies, but linking that to the downfall of congress or the reason we allow a Muslim or Hindu to be part of Congress is shortsided.   I don't think either person who used a Koran or Hindu Book of Scriputres is any worse than those who used the bible.  I suspect you may like them better than Feinstein or Pelosi if you really looked into it. Maybe not, but categorizing two specific people by their religion is no better than a Democrat saying guns kill people.  They are both ignorant statements in my opinion.

 13. It makes a lot of good points though.    He does not, clearly, understand that having armed citizens in all those places is the answer, rather than hired guards at every business and location.   As a leftist, he can only think of a communist/police state type answer: the citizens unarmed, the government goons armed to the teeth.    But he has several very valid key notes in there.   The games and movies ARE the same as the guns: taking them away from normal people because of a few nuts is not the answer and wayne let us all down on that.   It is also true that we do not have the police we need to handle even the drug, gang, and other problems.  If we take even 10% of our officers to man the schools, we either need more taxes to pay for more officers, or we have to stretch a thin police force even thiner.  Again, he cannot grok the idea of armed and trained teachers (and wayne knew this) so the answer has to be a paid professional.   Then there is the epic fail:   trying to compare legal guns with illegal drugs.  We don't have a 32nd ammendment that says you have the right to buy, sell, make, and ingest mind altering chemistry.   So there is no rational connection to saying that because we cannot keep such things eliminated we should legalize them.   One could argue for the legalization of drugs, but THIS argument is flawed from the start and not the way to prove that point.       And then she invalidates her entire piece by calling ARs high caliber (whatever the heck THAT means) --- just another liberal that does not even understand what she is even talking about.   Caliber = diameter, so apparently .22 is one of the largest diameter bullets out there, using her mishmash of terminology?!

 14. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh... The 'liberal' gets to shoot the gun, not stand out there and hold the target. Now I get it. Joking aside, it does work. When they see it's not a big scary gun with arms and legs that controls itself, but the person holding it is in control, a lightbulb usually goes off. Not to mention it's a LOT of fun!

 15. INTRODUCTION -   Hey folks,   Looking through the Survival & Preparedness forum index, I do not see too many discussions on entry level radio communications.   One comment up front (stolen from DaveS) -  "Practicing" for SHTF situations still calls for LAWS to be followed.".  So, if it needs a license to operate....get one. Or don't operate the radio equipment described in this thread.   I'll plan on putting some general information together here in this thread, and focusing on the basics of preparing to "get in contact" when the lines are down.     Most of it will be web links to sources that are a lot better than I can do, but will include at least (in no ordained order, yet)  Getting Started in understanding what you can do to prepare, radio waves, frequencies, operating bands & services (HF, VHF, HAM, CB, FRS, GMRS, Commercial, Government, etc), propagation (gets from point-to-point),terrain,distance, TX/RX - transmitters and receivers (a combination of the two are called "transceivers") modes of operation (analog and digital), power (operating sources and transmitting output), Antennas, feedlines (between antenna & radio), and support structures, Operating & Communicating (home, mobile, portable, and use of "repeaters") Thoughts / Sources on Regulatory Guidance (staying out of trouble, minimizing attention to yourself), Reliability, Sustainability, Efficiency, Economy, Resourcefulness  ("Hints & Kinks" - how to do it cheaper and better) Sources and Vendors (places to purchase stuff) "I can Help !"  (identfy your self (w/callsign if able), and any other useful info on how you can help folks) It will not be exhaustive, or even necessarily precise, but will be close enough to get a new-comer started on learning, and identifying folks who can help. It is not meant to act as a all-in-all, but rather as a starter of learning process and a pointer to other resources.   Contributing OPS, please Title Your Post as top of this post (Antennas, Operations, etc and keep it informational as best we can). Lets try to do lengthy sidebar discussions in new threads, not this one. It is not limited to Ham Radio, although it will be a major contributor.

I have had a number of not so good transactions through other internet sites...lots of spam and fraud out there.    Thanks TGO for a great site with great services.

 17. I wonder how much traction the common since approach will get.... -----------quote-------- Two freshman Republicans introduced contrary bills that would end federal law requiring that areas around schools be designated as "gun free zones." These bills, H.R. 35 from Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas) and H.R. 133 from Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), are a response to findings that violence in and around schools has increased since the gun free zone law took effect in 1990. "By disarming qualified citizens and officials in schools we have created a dangerous situation for our children," Stockman said. "In the 22 years before enactment of 'gun free school zones' there were two mass school shootings. "In the 22 years since enactment of 'gun free schools' there have been 10 mass school shootings," he added. "Not only has the bill utterly failed to protect our children it appears to have placed them in danger." 18.   And that’s the point. Some people that don’t live in an “employment at will state” (Which has nothing to do with “right to work”) and even some who do, don’t understand that if your employer doesn’t want you around; you won’t be around. Now… the legislature can pass all kinds of laws that allow you to tell your employer to go pound sand, but it’s ridiculous to think they have any teeth or that they will back you. Go find a new job at place that will let you carry if it’s that important to you. Do it on your schedule instead of having a period of being unemployed because you got in a pizzing match with your boss and lost.

Well that put me in a foul mood this morning, the comments more than the article.    On a related note about things that piss me off.  I'm tired of these unemployed people that write their opinion on the internet, call themselves a blogger and and because they have a website they are considered some sort of expert.  In the words of Mad Max from the Johnboy and Billy Show "Sit down, shut up, and quit ruining my life!"   :RANT OFF:

 28. "Have any of you been asked to conceal your weapon in businesses that are not posted?"   No, but then again I think open carry creates many more problems than it's worth.  Open carry makes some people uneasy which leads to complaints which leads to a gun busters sign.  The last thing I want is extra attention or to become the first target in a surprise robbery.

 38. Brain, Your focus on an object might make for some interesting photos. However, your focus should be on the problem - - - Mentally Deranged Evil People who use an object to kill. An Example...... MADD went after the problem (drunk driving), not the object (vehicles). They changed how we look at "having a few" and then getting behind the wheel. They are not called MAIV (Mother's Against Illegal Vehicles) for a reason - - - vehicles didn't cause the problem, it was the action of drunks that needed a solution. I would suggest that finding a solution to Mentally Deranged Evil People walking freely among us would be a better focus of your work.

 40. Another thought. If the physical aspect of ones relationship is so powerful that it can save or destroy the ties that bind the two together, I question the validity of that relationship to begin with. You could remove, permanently, any form of physical love from my marriage and it would prosper just as well and have NO influence on fidelity whatsoever. Reason being, my wife is worth more to me than the sum of her......parts. A good woman is not a life support for a vagina.

 47. Cop stops a beautiful blond driving a Corvette for speeding. He approaches and asks for her license and registration. She tells him she doesn’t have a license and she doesn’t have the registration the car isn’t hers. When he asks who the car belongs she to, she tells him it belonged to the old couple that lived next door to her, but she killed them. Yep, didn’t like them; killed them both. The cop calls for backup and a Command Officer. The Command Officer arrives and talks to the woman. He asks why she killed the people that own the car. She said she had no idea what he was talking about and gave him the registration. He asks if she has a license and she gives that to him. He then asks her “Why do you think my Officer would say you didn’t have a license, and that you killed the owners of this car?” She replied, “I have no idea; the lying SOB probably said I was speeding too!”
