  3. The AR is americas rifle because one, it's basically the same as what our troops use. Second and possibly more important, it is so versatile. It's like a box of Legos. Little switcharoo and you go from an SBR'd 10.5 inch barrel close quarters battle rifle, to a 24 inch bull barrel varmint rifle. In less than 60 seconds. Arguably it is the most ergonomic and comfortable rifle you'll ever shoot. When a quality rifle (AR) is coupled with premium or handloaded to suit, ammunition, it is blisteringly accurate. You can snatch that wimpy 223(5,56 NATO) upper off there and slap on a 300 blackout or 458 SOCOM and hunt anything that walks in TN. You can buy an upper that fires .50BMG and shoot 1,000 yards. You can set it up for .22lr and have a great afternoon with the kids for cheap. Then at the end of the day you can put it back the way started with, set it next to the bed, loaded with frangible ammo and when things go bump in the night, you can call the cops to come help you clean up the mess the guy who was intent on robbing and raping your family made when you sent him off to the next life. It took me a while to come around as I was a forged in fire Kalashnikov man. I ain't going back. The AR is loved by Americans, feared by ameriKans. Of course, we don't expect any less from leftist commie hippie trash.

  4. With that kind of thinking one day you'll look around and wonder what happened to your guns. I mean this in the most respectful way possible, stop reacting like a sheep and start thinking like a lion. The fight we are about to find ourselves in is not about us and our rights, it's about our children/grandchildren and their rights.

  5. The NRA should not waiver a single inch. Everyone here knows that if you give the anti-gun Lib's an inch they will try to take a mile. If anything, the NRA should make an effort to expand gun rights and gun ownership after this. Criminals like unarmed victims. That sick bastard killed 20 little kids. If those teachers had been armed he would be dead and those kids would be enjoying Christmas with their families.

  7. Who wants a 30 round clip? Do you know how hard that'd be to force into the magazine? You'd probably cut your thumb in half. Ive never seen a charger guide sturdy enough to stabilize that much flopping around. Ten rounds are fine, the SKS works great. Five rounds work even better on a mauser. Personally I prefer magazines.

  9. The world is full of irrational, emotional, foolish people who love bandwagons because it's easier than thinking for themselves.  Add to this the problematic fact that schools teach a version of history that actually amounts to little more than indoctrination of our children, and have been doing so for the past 40-50 years, and you end up with two or three current generations of Useful Idiots who know no better than to toe the party line.   In short, we're fucked.

  10. NRA sure has its shortcomings, but overall, the sheer amount of money they are able to throw at the gun rights issue has to help some.  Do they always get it right? Of course not.  Mistakes are made.  Overall, I think they are a worthwhile organization.  Thats not to say that there are not other viable ones as well.  I am a life member.  I want to join the TFA soon so as to get more local (TN) help.

  11. Does it matter? Dick's is a joke of a store anyways. Overpriced and hardly has anything in stock. Bought a bike (on sale) for the wife there years ago and found it cheaper a week later somewhere else. Plus the bike "expert" working that department didn't have a clue. Haven't been back since. Not sure how they stay in business. Their parking lot always seems empty.

  15. I have grown to be pretty close friends to a buddy of mine who has mobility issues.     As I have gotten to know him over the past few months, he has mentioned how much he would like to have the ability to be outdoors and to hunt.  I have been blessed access to prime hunting property and saw this as a great opportunity to help fulfill some wishes of his.  I do not see him as a charity project, I am just a friend helping a friend as I get a lot out of our friendship too.      Well 2 weekends ago, when it was nice and rainy.  We set out to do an afternoon hunt out at the land.  There were a lot of logistical challenges in getting set up because once he is in a chair, he cant get out without a great deal of effort from the both of us.  But we managed to get him set up over a 30 acre harvested soybean field where deer come out fairly regularly.    The rains came down and the floods came up!  I set us up in a low spot and by the time we finished the hunt, we were in about 3 inches of water!  Lesson learned! Anyways, once we were all set in the hunting blind.  We saw a massive flock of turkeys come out to feed.  We counted 24.  Then a few minutes later, another flock of turkeys came out to make the total of 41 turkeys that we were watching!  Both of us enjoy being outdoors wether we see anything or not, but seeing things is always so much more fun!  Our hunt was off to a great start!   After about 3 hours, I hear him say, "I see a deer!!  Its a buck!"  Sure enough, there was a 2.5yr old 8 point out about 80 yards from us.  He asked if he was a shooter and I said heck yeah he is!  The nerves were pumping.  Heart was racing. Lungs were hyperventilating.  And those were just mine!!!  I wasn't even the one shooting!  haha   I helped him get the gun up and rested correctly on the Bog Pod and after he had the crosshairs set he asked me if I was ready for him to shoot.  My buddy dropped that deer in his tracks!  I really thought that guy was going to jump out of his chair, he was so excited!  I threw the blind off of us as we hugged, shook hands and laughed ourselves silly.  What a great experience for the both of us!   I ran and drug the deer back to him for a few photos and afterwords, he said something that really touched my heart.  He said that he didnt know he could get excited like that anymore.  I really didn't have a response at the time other than to say I am glad he had a good time.  But we will get more opportunities to hunt and I expect him to get excited again with his first turkey this coming season!    I hope to build some better blinds with good ramps on them in the future for him and I hope to one day be able to help provide opportunities to those with illnesses and physical challenges.

  16. Previously posted on Tea Party Nation.   What you have heard from many politicians and news commentators IS correct. It IS time to have a reasonable discussion about Gun Control. Let's start with the absolute FACT that gun-free zones and gun control have been dismal failures at preventing crime and mass killings. The highly-publicized shootings at the theater in Aurora, Colorado and now at an elementary school in Connecticut should have proven those facts beyond any doubt.   So lets look at what our leaders have come up with as a way to stop or reduce such incidents. More gun control. Oh, sure, since the gun-free zones and existing gun control have done such a good job, let's have more of it. We have just seen 22 6 year-old children sacrificed on the altar of THAT absurd idea.   In one of the most gun free zones in the world, a man with a knife stabbed and slashed 22 children at a school in China on the same day that 22 children in the US were being shot to death (1). And NBC News reported that this was not the only such incident in China (2). A string of such incidents in early 2010 resulted in over 20 deaths and more than 50 wounded. the largest mass murder in the US, was done by a farmer who killed 44 people and injured another 58 when he blew up a school in Bath, MI. No amount of gun control could have stopped any of those.   The BBC recently reported that handgun murders INCREASED in the two years after the UK confiscated nearly all of the legally-owned handguns in the country (3). And other countries with very strict gun control have seen mass murders as well. In Norway last summer, Anders Breivik killed 77 people before being stopped by a heavily-armed SWAT team (4). In 2009, a 17 year-old in Germany killed 15 and wounded 11 (5).   So, having shown that Gun Control does NOT work, what is there with a proven record of stopping such violence?   Someone with a gun.   Is it preferable to have a murderer free to continue methodically killing until the police arrive, or to have somebody on the scene with at least a chance to stop him?   Ideally, you would want a fully-armed Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, Marine Recon, or other elite warrior, on hand and ready to place their lives between a killer and innocent children. Sadly, mass murderers very rarely attack innocent people when there are armed warriors around. In fact, you could say that they intentionally plan their attacks for places where such armed warriors are NOT present.   However, there are a very large number of armed people who have often shown that they have not only the ability, but the willingness to place themselves between killers and their victims.   In the US, there are at least 9.6 million potential civilian concealed handgun carriers. There are several states that do not require permits to carry a concealed weapon, so there is no telling how many of them may be armed. But with almost 10 million folks that may be armed, there is a good chance that someone you see today is carrying a weapon.   Just last week, there was a shooting at a mall in Oregon. After killing two people, the shooter, with several working firearms and lots of ammunition left, suddenly decided to kill himself. He was suddenly confronted by an armed citizen with a handgun, who was carrying that weapon in spite of signs that posted the mall as a Gun-Free zone (6). There is no way to know how many lives were saved by that decision. And that was not the only time in recent history that a mass-murderer was stopped by an armed citizen (7). 2012 - church, Aurora, CO 2012 - store, Santa Clara, CA 2012 - RV Park, Early, TX 2010 - store, New York Mills, NY 2009 - store, Richmond, VA 2009 - birthday party, College Park, GA 2007 - New Life Church, Colorado Springs, CO 2007 - bar, Winnemuca, NV 2002 - Appalachian School of Law, Grundy, VA 1998 - school dance, Edinboro, PA 1997 - Pearl High School, Pearl, Mississippi 1995 - store, Muskegon, MI 1991 - Shoney's, Anniston, AL   Sadly, mass murderers who are stopped do not get very much attention from the news. In fact, murders and other crimes that are stopped by armed civilians do not get reported very often. Sometimes, the story is reported, but the fact that an armed person stopped the crime is not mentioned.   For the past fifty years, we have been told that guns are bad. And that civilians with guns will cause murder rates to rise, 'Wild-West' shootouts, and 'blood in the streets'. Firearm ownership has increased during that time, as have the numbers of concealed carry permit holders. And what has happened? Murder rates have DECLINED. And violent crime has declined most in places that have made civilian concealed carry possible (8, 9). Whether there is an actual correlation between those two statistics is in debate. But the FACT is that the 'Wild-West', and 'blood-in-the-streets' nightmares have NOT happened. And the most significant fact is that while firearm ownership has gone UP, violence has not. So obviously, having guns around does NOT cause violence.   Those who propose to confiscate all firearms and/or ammunition from civilians are just ignorant. Making either firearms and/or ammunition is not rocket science. This is a technology that is hundreds of years old and widely known. Anyone with simple skills and a minumum of tools can accomplish it. People with primive tools and materials make machine guns and ammunition under the harshest conditions (10). Does anyone believe that a nation of craftsman-hobbyists cannot accomplish it as well?   The conclusion is that our national policy of not allowing legally-armed citizens to carry in schools and other 'gun-free zones' has been a disaster. It has allowed an untold number of needless murders, and made our children into defenseless targets for anyone seeking to end their life with national headlines. It is time to reverse this idiocy and allow those who are willing and able to defend the innocent.   It is time to eliminate 'gun-free zones' and other restrictive laws, and restore the right of the citizens to protect their lives, loved ones, and property.     1) http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/12/14/15901085-villager-slashes-22-kids-with-knife-at-elementary-school-gates-in-china?lite 2) http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/12/14/15901085-villager-slashes-22-kids-with-knife-at-elementary-school-gates-in-china?lite 3) http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/1440764.stm 4) http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/13/world/europe/norway-massacre-report/index.html 5) http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/mar/11/germany-school-shooting-winnenden-albertville 6) http://www.mrctv.org/videos/media-blackout-oregon-mall-shooting-stopped-licensed-gun-carrier 7) http://gunwatch.blogspot.com/2012/12/mass-killings-stopped-by-armed-citizens.html 8) http://www.wral.com/news/state/nccapitol/story/11204311/ 9) http://www.handgunsmag.com/2012/06/20/2011-fbi-violent-crime-stats-gun-ownership-upcrime-rates-drop/ 10) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JajLlxEiXxg

  19. Wanna get 2/3rds of the nation screaming, start passing more strict legislation on a very popular product that can be "argued" has caused or aided in 100,000's+ deaths in many ways, probably over 1 million in the last century. Much more so than than the anti's can argue about firearms or really any other legal product. ALCOHOL. Costas argued that if the football player who killed his girlfriend hadn't had a "gun", they would still be alive thinking a big male football player couldn't kill a petite girl without one when a much more logical argument might be that if the football player hadn't been raging drunk on alcohol he would have had more control of his emotions and may not have killed his girlfriend. How many domestic violence incidents start because of someone being under the influence of alcohol? Also, let's not forget our favorite restaurant owner gun hater Ray Whatshisname. How many drunks did he allow to leave his bar restaurant, get in their car and drive home endangering kids with their familys on the same highway? IMO, that's a whole hell of alot more dangerous than allowing a law abiding citizen to carry their handgun into his restaurant. Anyway, I'm not advocating a background check at every Mapco or liqor store before you can buy an alcoholic product to see if you have been arrested in the past for DUI or domestic violence, or a one bottle per month limit or a size limit on the bottle, i'm just saying there is legal products that can be "argued" is much more of a problem in causing tragic deaths of innocents than firearms. Just tell a liberal you want to take away his booze because someone else might abuse it and go on a pi$$ed at the world raging drunk and might stab or beat someone to death, or run a school bus off the road killing children. I mean, they don't "NEED" alochol do they? I wonder if they will argue back that just because someone does a bad thing under the influence of alcohol, they shouldn't be demonized or punished for it. P.S. Sorry for the long rant.

Y'all should remember this when things are back to "normal".  They've got a history of this, and it is inexcusable.   We as gun owners should speak with our wallets - which is the only thing they'll hear and help to put them out of business.   They're nothing but opportunists selling to a panicked market.  They should be recognized as such.

  22. "Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one."  That's from a book written in 1841 called Memoirs of Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds, which chronicles various investment manias from the 16th to early 19th centuries.  Gun owners would do well to remember these words, but I doubt they will, because nobody else does.  A lot of gun owners right now are like the guy who buys milk and bread 24 hours before the storm hits.    Cheaper than dirt is selling Pmags for $60.  This is hilarious.

  23. Did someone say we should compromise?       http://thelawdogfiles.blogspot.com/2010/09/ok-ill-play.html   Since what you consider to be reasonable isn't even in the same plane of reality with what I consider reasonable, probably not. Allow me to explain. I hear a lot about "compromise" from your camp ... except, it's not compromise. Let's say I have this cake. It is a very nice cake, with "GUN RIGHTS" written across the top in lovely floral icing. Along you come and say, "Give me that cake." I say, "No, it's my cake." You say, "Let's compromise. Give me half." I respond by asking what I get out of this compromise, and you reply that I get to keep half of my cake. Okay, we compromise. Let us call this compromise The National Firearms Act of 1934. There I am with my half of the cake, and you walk back up and say, "Give me that cake." I say, "No, it's my cake." You say, "Let's compromise." What do I get out of this compromise? Why, I get to keep half of what's left of the cake I already own. So, we have your compromise -- let us call this one the Gun Control Act of 1968 -- and I'm left holding what is now just a quarter of my cake. And I'm sitting in the corner with my quarter piece of cake, and here you come again. You want my cake. Again. This time you take several bites -- we'll call this compromise the Clinton Executive Orders -- and I'm left with about a tenth of what has always been MY DAMN CAKE and you've got nine-tenths of it. Then we compromised with the Lautenberg Act (nibble, nibble), the HUD/Smith and Wesson agreement (nibble, nibble), the Brady Law (NOM NOM NOM), the School Safety and Law Enforcement Improvement Act (sweet tap-dancing Freyja, my finger!) I'm left holding crumbs of what was once a large and satisfying cake, and you're standing there with most of MY CAKE, making anime eyes and whining about being "reasonable", and wondering "why we won't compromise". I'm done with being reasonable, and I'm done with compromise. Nothing about gun control in this country has ever been "reasonable" nor a genuine "compromise". LawDog

  24. Gee...another thread complaining about the NRA...color me shocked,   I'm a life member, and proud of it.  I contribute to their legislative action as well since membership fees don't go to support legislative actions. No one here or probably anywhere have ever said the NRA is perfect and unless Jesus takes over and gets rid of all the people it never will be perfect.   If people care about their second amendment rights then they need to join every pro-2A organization they can find including the NRA, the GOA, the USCCA, their state organization (TFA here) and more...stop complaining on the interned and get involved.   Complaining about what the NRA or other organizations are or aren't doing when you aren't a member is pretty much the same as complaining about the results of elections when you were eligible to vote but couldn't bother yourself to get to the polls.   As to the "A" rating; I guess some, like the author of this article, don't understand that a current rating is based on PAST actions; current and future actions will be rated accordingly as happened to Maggart.

  26. ummm   I think NRA is showing decorum in remaining silent on the subject for a few days.  The agenda has not changed, and will smooth out in a week or so, just like the last few events.  That will be the time to have collected, collated, and organized their presentation of facts and path forward....*after* some time for mourning, and *after* the libtards have blown their wad   They have nothing to gain by speaking too soon, and there are plenty of folks getting good messages out in triage.   I would expect them to them to be more vocal after the dead are buried, in order to keep the focus in the right places..

  28. Joined the NRA yesterday. That's my "statement" on the recent discussions by liberal, Northeast and CA lawmakers to control gun rights.   In my opinion, some of the NRA "A" List Democrats may be posturing since any gun control changes would need to get through the Republican controlled House of Representatives (which won't happen). I personally don't see that any changes will occur other than possibly tightening background checks and eliminating the "gun show" sales loophole.

  32. Hey guys, how about marking your SOLD items as SOLD? When you edit your ad and mark the item "sold" in the ad, please go to the Topic Prefix (Wanted, Free, For Sale, etc.) and change that to SOLD. It's kind of aggravating to look through a dozen or more posts and bumps on an item only to see it marked as sold on the last post but still shown as "For Sale" on the topic title. Thanks

  33. All is not lost. Unplug for a minute and take your mind off things;     Where did "Piss Poor" come from? Interesting history. They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot.   And then once it was full it was taken and sold to the tannery...  if you had to do this to survive you were "Piss Poor". But worse than that were the really poor folk who couldn't even afford to buy a pot...They "didn't have a pot to piss in" and were the lowest of the low.   The next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature  Isn't just how you like it, think about how things used to be. Here are some facts about the 1500's   Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May, and they still smelled pretty good by June.. However, since they were starting to smell, brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married. Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, Then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children.  Last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the saying, "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water!" Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof.  When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof.. Hence the saying, "It's raining cats and dogs."   There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings could mess up your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That's how canopy beds came into existence.   The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt.  Hence the saying, "Dirt poor." The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on the floor to help keep their footing.  As the winter wore on, they added more thresh until, when you opened the door, it would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entrance-way.  Hence: a thresh hold.   (Getting quite an education, aren't you?) In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that always hung over the fire.  Every day they lit the fire and added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat. They would eat the stew for dinner, leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight and then start over the next day. Sometimes stew had food in it that had been there for quite a while.  Hence the rhyme:“Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot nine days old." Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special.  When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off. It was a sign of wealth that a man could, "bring home the bacon."  They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around and chew the fat.   Those with money had plates made of pewter.  Food with high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.   Bread was divided according to status.  Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or the upper crust.   Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination would sometimes knock the imbibers out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial.  They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up. Hence the custom; “holding a wake."   England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places to bury people.  So they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a bone-house, and reuse the grave.  When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realized they had been burying people alive.  So they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell. Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the graveyard shift) to listen for the bell; thus, someone could be, â€œsaved by the bell" or was "considered a dead ringer."  And that's the truth. Now, whoever said history was boring!!!   So get out there and educate someone!   Share these facts with a friend. Inside every older person is a younger person wondering,  "What the heck happened?" We'll be friends until we are old and senile.  Then we'll be new friends.   Smile, it gives your face something to do!

  34. Didn't you get the memo Robert? Compromise is the word of the day and I bet we'll be hearing it a lot more in the future. If anyone got past my first post and didn't figure out I was against compromise when it comes to gun control then I can't really help them. It's not about my unwillingness to compromise it's about your willingness to compromise. If you want to compromise then compromise; not I or anyone else has said you should never do so; all I've just suggested that you do so with deliberation and an understanding of the consequences; is that really such a bad idea? See what I did there? Look, I know when it comes down to it you and I are on the same team. To me when someone mentions compromise and gun control together that means the types of firearms I use and enjoy, AR-15 and semi-auto pistol, are going to get sacrificed so other firearms users can hunt with their rifles or shotguns. All to often you hear some politician or talking head say "I support 2A, people should be allowed hunt" and then the go on about restricting certain firearms. They are going to divide firearms users and the hunters are going to give up certain types of firearms so they will be allowed to keep their "hunting" firearms. Once that happens it's only a matter of time before those "hunting" firearms are taken too. I can just hear it now... Elmer Fudd: "You can't take my shotgun I use that for hunting wabbits!" Gun Grabber: "Where in the 2A does it say anything about your right to hunt? Now give me your sniper rifle and assault shotgun! If you want to hunt go sharpen a stick." Gun Grabber: thinking to self.... "Research legislation for sharp stick control."

Ask for a parent to volunteer providing they meet the criteria AND have a child in the same school. They volunteer once a month for an 8 hour shift and in return they get to deduct 1% of their property taxes for each day they volunteer within a calendar year.   If teachers volunteer to carry then give them a 10% pay increase for the added responsibility. Provide them with a Glock and require them to keep it on their person at all times while on school grounds or during a school even.   Dolomite

  36. Compare the AR to the World War II vintage jeep.   For starters, the design is battle tested and its defects have been engineered out of it after being depended upon in combat for around 50 years. It is a reliable, stable tool. As citizens, we paid for the engineering, and now it is available to us for use.   Additionally, with CRC tooling, many small but respectable shops can turn AR components out in quantity at quality. There are many third party vendors that make accessories to enhance the utility of the tool. This especially includes all sorts of optical sights that increase accuracy.   Also, essentially everyone in the military and all veterans are familiar with the tool and many are very proficient with it.   Also, because it is a military caliber tool, ammunition is available in sufficient quality and quantity to be widely and cheaply available. This simplifies logistics. The ammunition can be reloaded, and the brass casings are widely available. This can keep the cost down and allow for special purpose ammunition production.   The AR of course does not have the "selective fire (automatic)" function that military M16s have and that otherwise smart people pretend they don't understand. A military M-16 can fire in full automatic mode, or three round bursts, but a civilian-available AR cannot. Smart but slippery demagogues - wicked individuals all -  pretend there is no difference.   We here could go on and on.   ******************************************************************************   A few words regarding the "trust" thing. I think many folks here essentially "trust" you on a personal and professional basis.   Perhaps your editors and your headline writers up the chain will read this as well: We don't trust the editors. They seem to have agendas. I personally don't trust the headline writers - they can take a very well crafted and straightforward story and swing it far-left in just a couple of bold-faced words. This has been mentioned before and bears repeating.

  37. If only they could somehow make breaking the law illegal.  That's the best long term fix.

  38. If Westboro decides to travel and protest at the children's funerals, the best thing the town can do is completely ignore them! Refuse them food, fuel, & motel services! Westboro came to my town once & this is what we did!   A few years ago a car full of cheerleaders wrecked after a local high school football game & all of them burned to death. The nature of the wreck touched the heart of the entire community. Somehow it got the attention of Westboro church and they deemed that the cheerleaders died the way they did because they were "evil whores, hated by God" (quote from the church's website) & planned a protest march at their funerals & at the school. Sure enough Westboro church members made the trip all the way across the country to Scott County to make their protest, but after dozens of death threats from locals both the city & county police depts. & a few members of the TN highway patrol were called in just in case it turned violent. The church chickened out of showing up at the funerals, but did make a brief appearance at the high school. Apparently Westboro members decided that 1,000 pissed off residents (some of them armed with guns & baseball bats) weren't worth the risk because when they got to the school only four church members got out of their van. They held up picket signs for about five minutes, said a short (silent) prayer, got back in their van and headed back west. Westboro only cares about getting headlines and funding. Their "great protest" fizzled out once they got to my town & saw how outnumbered they were, plus they were refused service by every motel & gas station in the area & their stay wasn't a pleasant one.

  40. I told them what I though to them on their Facebook page...lot's of pissed off people posting there.   Ultimately I don't care whether they carry firearms at all...I buy from real firearm dealers; not department stores.   Maybe one good thing about the tragedy is that it might become easier for the firearms community to identify who their real friends are and who are just enemies trying to look like friends.

  43. Some MSNBC twit was blowing off at the mouth last night about how the NRA was refusing to respond to them.  This was just after he interviewed Mayor Bloomberg.  I think the NRA and others are being very smart right now.  They are showing respect for the families by not taking the bait from the media trash employed by NBC, ABC, and others.     I have no doubt that the pro 2nd Amendment government officials and NRA are preparing for a massive offensive.  I also think the manufactures of AR-15's should file a law-suit against the media outlets for falsely claiming that AR's are "assault rifles".

  45. I don't much care if the NRA or GOA is speaking out in public as long as they're running rough shot over any Republicans in the House who even think about supporting gun control....   It's very unlikely that the Senate can get 60 votes for gun control, but the real firewall is the house...  We just have to remind representative that if they pass gun control, and there is a government left in 2014 they will be out of a job for life.

  46. If you have to explain, they wouldn't understand.  I'm far beyond worrying about people's opinion of me.  And no, I didn't feel like a leper.  I felt fine.

  47. I asked in another thread, you a member of the NRA and more specifically to TN law, the TFA?   Certainly more effective long term than the occasional forum rant.   - OS

  48. If the government announed that EVERYONE in the nation must turn in their firearms or face serious jail time this is how I see things happening. 90% of the gun owners will, without question, show up at collection centers and turn in their firearms. 9% will hide their guns deep in some far away place. 1% will stand up and fight with everything they have. And regardless of which group you are in the reason is the same, fear of the government. Dolomite
