I went to a new gun shop this morning, an advertiser on this site who I visited because of the ad on TGO. Looking around and a double barrel steel shotgun caught my eye and I asked if I could see it. He said Sure I just need to see your drivers license, I assumed to make sure I was a legal resident, I also showed my HCP but he wasn't interested in this. While I was looking at the shotgun and about to say "Looks good I'll take it", I look up and see the person was scanning my DL, I asked why and he said "Store Policy, we have had some situations" He gave me my drivers license back and I did not buy the shotgun. Just saying, it pisses me off they scanned my DL with no justification. if I had bought a firearm they would have had all that info anyway. Maybe I'm being unreasonable but I won't visit that store again.3 points

As a born and raised Memphian I'm pretty well pissed about it. There have been a couple of other events in that city the past month that have really set me off as well as far as my heritage goes, but I'll not go into it. I'll leave it that and with this...there is no other city in this state I would have preferred to be born or grown up in, but the inmates have taken over the asylum.3 points

Haven't you seen any movies? Clearly anyone that fought for the Confederate States was just a spawn of Satan.... Pure evil. Surely the hundreds of thousands of dirt poor farmers who died in battle willingly gave their lives so the wealthy could retain their slaves. Just like every last Union Soldier was concerned only with abolition and was willing to die for it. Isn't that what the war was all about?3 points

Go ahead and get ready to bash me. I can take it. Screw this judge. He started this crap by getting offended when another latino said, "adios" to him and doubled her bond and then replied with, "adios." What an egomaniacal asshat. And I have never understood why the 1st Amendment to the Constitution ceases to be applicable simply because you're in a court of law. If the judge is an asshole you DO have every right to tell him so. But because his ego can't handle the truth he uses the force he has at his disposal to put this girl in jail for a month for flipping him the bird? Call me crazy but I think the wrong person is being incarcerated. Q: What do you call someone who finished last in their law school class? A: Your Honor.3 points

Took me long enough and a lot of searching for components but I finally loaded my first one. And then I loaded 30 more with various loads. The green tips are the Z-Max cartridges that I'll use as my control. Hopefully I can get a good day of weather to try them out.2 points

I actually working a case on a criminal docket in an East Tennessee Court (not Knox County, but close) a few years ago when a guy was being charged with an illegal knife charge for having it in his vehicle. He seemed like a really nice guy and his explanation to the judge was that he always worked outdoors and had carried rather large folding knives his entire life and had no idea it was illegal. As I was waiting for my client's case to be heard I had an opportunity to ask that guy's lawyer why he was being charged and made the comment that I'd be surprised by a charge like that in Knox County absent someone mouthing off to the LEO or guilty of some other crime. His lawyer informed me that it was a checkpoint issue with a young cop officer eager to issue lots of citations. I remember thinking that my morning would have been easier if they person I was representing was as sympathetic as the good old country boy with a knife. I think it had a favorable outcome for the guy but it's a great example of why you shouldn't ever be led to believe that because something is a "common practice" that you won't find yourself charged with a crime.2 points

I like Rand Paul. He says most everything that i believe. Let's hope that he aint just another lyin polititian. RE: The future of the republicans. If folks like Rand Paul and others who are actually conservative and believe that the constitution and the bill of rights actually means what it says dont win the ongoing fight within the republican party against the likes of the "bluenose general bullmoose" type republicans like the disgraceful carl rove; the republican party will cease to exist and morph into the demorat party. I see where the great rove and others like him are busily committing circular firing squad suicide by workin on a bluenose super pac to fight the tea party candidates. A sure way to move to permanent minority status or extinction. Here's hopin. leroy2 points

Why respond? I view the purpose of this thread as nothing more than taking a cheap shot at Paul supporters. Okay, Paul said something that was very insensitive, and in my opinion, dumb. Do I agree with him? Absolutely not. However, I still support, not so much the man, but his ideas. I still stand on the belief that Paul's ideas for fixing the mess in this country were by far and away the best of any of those running during the 2012 primaries. While I very seldom agree with kieefer, he is correct in stating that Paul is no longer a factor in the political arena. I will add that the only reason this is even hitting the news is because independent constitutionally-minded thinkers and the Tea Party are being attacked by Rove and his ilk. Instead of a having a debate of ideas, the Rovians are engaging in the tactics of the left by focusing on a stupid little comment and try to make a big deal of it. Expect a lot more of this type of petty crap to come over the next two years. Instead of being attacked solely by the left, fiscal and/or social conservative Republicans, constitutionalists, libertarians, etc... are going to have to endure it from the neocons and the establishment.2 points

I'm 99% sure it was an ID/Age Verification scanner. The only info they are given is Name, Age, and whether the ID is valid or not. Many Available: http://www.avidbiometrics.com/Age-Verification-Scanners/ Seeing as a gunstore has to obey laws when it comes to who they sell to, I see no issues with the above type scanner. Verification to cover their ass ... You guys give small businesses a rough time ... These guys aren't trying to scam anyone, and if what is said is true -- several burglaries over the past few months -- I'd do the same. I wouldn't be surprised if guns are bought every day with fake ID's and info. My ID has never been scanned to check accuracy in the past. Crook gets a fake ID made, copies that info with fake info on to a 4457, and the shop could potentially be held liable/responsible. Moral of the story -- The store is covering their own ass. Red Dirt - You gave them your ID to begin with. If you weren't comfortable giving your ID to begin with, should have kept it pocketed IMO and left at that point :) My $.02 cents2 points

New York police officer Patricia Parete, paralyzed in '06 shooting, dies from injuries Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/02/05/new-york-police-officer-paralyzed-in-2006-shooting-dies-from-injuries/#ixzz2K4Cugzp8 "An upstate New York police officer who was paralyzed after being shot on duty in 2006 died over the weekend, prompting calls for the gunman to be charged with murder." "A funeral for Parete will be held Wednesday. Although an official cause of death is pending, if the shooting is found to be the direct cause of Parete's death, gunman Varner Harris Jr., who is serving a sentence of 30 years to life, could face a murder charge, according to Buffalo attorney Barry Covert." ------------ Even if she hadn't died, this p.o.s. has already destroyed her life, he should still fry. :2cents:1 point

I read an article in a magazine (Reader's Digest, I believe) titled 'Who Will Become a Nazi'. It gave a breakdown of the personality traits of different people and how they could, or could not, be persuaded to join a group like the Nazi's. It opened my eyes to a lot of traits I used to ignore in people. There are many, many, people out there who would fire on American citizens if they thought it would curry favor with someone they consider their superior or if they thought it would get them promoted to a higher ranking.1 point

There are more folks that show up at one Friday night High School football game than show up in years worth of School Board meetings so what do you expect? The thought police are winning it seems. Be sure to make your voice heard to the people that make these kinds of decisions. Having taught at a public school, I can assure you public school administrators don't want to have to deal with upset parents and many will take the path of least resistance.1 point

taking over the schools is how they got liberalism into society in the first place ... they wish they could create immediate change, but realize taking over America is a long-term project. trying to disallow transfer of guns upon death (new AWB) as well as indoctrinating the young generation against guns, guarantees that if they don't get the guns now, they will phase them out over one or two generations.1 point

I said chew, I don't know for sure about burn. From what I've read they have a steel jacket instead of a copper jacket and that is much harder on the barrel. Also while they will only "light" after leaving the barrel they are burning through the first layer and that leaves extra residue in the barrel and gas system. Phosphorous and magnesium burn extremely hot and that is what makes these things light up. Not saying don't get them, just be aware that there are virtually no places that will let you shoot them and if you are on private property you better have a way of putting out fires. I don't think they will damage your gun per-se but they definitely aren't a good for it.1 point

Remember what the road to Hell is paved with? When I was young, I remember going with my Grandfather to a hardware store and he bought a .22 Remington 66. Cash and a handshake and we took it home. In 1968, they told us that requiring dealers to have to transfer guns across state lines and making us fill out the old yellow 4473 would keep guns out of the hands of criminals. It didn't. In 1994, they said that the NICS (and TICS) instant check system would be no imposition on gun buyers because it was 'instant', but would keep guns out of the hands of criminals. It has been neither 'instant', nor useful at keeping guns away from criminals. What you propose will still not keep guns out of the hands of the violent and insane. Most convicted criminals get firearms from straw purchasers and theft. That was equally true back in the 1930's (before ANY Federal gun laws), and has never changed. As for the insane, I believe in a VERY difficult standard to get someone declared insane. Governments have traditionally used the 'insanity' plea as a convenient way to remove dissidents. Even our Federal, state, and local governments here in the US have done this in the past. It used to be sufficient to have one psychiatrist as a professional opinion, along with two witnesses to strange behaviour to get someone committed. Fortunately, that has changed. Ideally, if someone is a violent criminal or violently insane, then they should not be walking around among the law-abiding. But, since our court system sees fit to allow them to mingle with the rest of us, I would not be averse to some form of marking or permanent identification like a brand or tattoo. If someone is too violent to be allowed weapons, then there should be some way for the rest of us to KNOW who they are!1 point

I think showing up to court for drug charges warrants a serious attitude. So her giggling wouldn't have set well with me. However, he was laughing as well but decided to be a hard ass when he thought she was acting "cute". So the whole "you're here on drug charges" goes right out the door and becomes "you're here because i say you're here". So what does she learn from that? She learns to dislike the court system....and probably goes right back out to pick up her old habits.1 point

Watched the video of the session. It did nothing to ease my feeling that something is amiss behind the scenes...although it was fun to see Jackson have to be corrected with regards to last year's passage of SB3002 by the Judiciary cmte. An interesting aside...Ophelia Ford is doing a bang-up job channeling Roseanne Roseannadanna with both her appearance and her babbling...1 point

I seen a guy cuss out a commissioner during an arraignment. The guy would have been released after 12 hours on time served if he would have plead guilty. Instead he cussed her out without entering a not guilty plea. The commissioner asked if he could make bond and the guy said "F" no and continued to cuss the commissioner out. At that point the commisioner set his court date 3 months out and put the highest bond she could on him. He was really surprized when he couldn't get out for 3 months over what would have been a 12 hour sentence. Dolomite1 point

few weeks back or so maybe more (days running together due to overtime at work) N Korea was talking about testing a missile and atomic bomb together. I thought that would be the prefect time for a stealth raid to fly in and drop a precision bomb on target and take out the launch facility with minimal lose of lives and never take any credit for it. Headlines around the world would have read N. Korea test rocket and bomb blows up on pad. While in N. Korea news would read, successful nuclear test.1 point

I don't think it was a matter of "LET"-ing it happen, they WANTED it to happen, hence they CAUSED it to happen. It is their agenda to destroy America. Hannity constantly says that he doesn't think that liberals are unpatriotic, that they love America just as much as we do. I wonder what the heck he is smoking? He's just walking on egg shells if he can't call out the truth like Levin, Limbaugh or Savage.1 point
