I typed this up for facebook the day they announced, just thought I would throw it out there.: My wife just asked me what I thought of today’s decision by the Boy Scouts of America to allow openly homosexual boys and still refuse adults. Short answer: I am torn my mind is not made up. Long answer: I myself am an Eagle Scout I started in the Tiger Cubs, then Cub Scouts, Weblows, Boy Scouts, and achieved Eagle in November of 1994. Though our Oath does include the words “Morally Straightâ€, we also follow a law: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent. We have a slogan “Do a good turn daily†To not allow homosexuals child or adult is certainly not helpful, friendly, courteous, or kind to those individuals, nor is it doing a good turn. What of the boys who run the gauntlet and achieve the rank of Eagle and wish to continue as leaders? Is the BSA going to deny them, after proving themselves trustworthy, and loyal? The fear of homosexual adults being molesters, of being “turned on†by boys is also unfounded; the number of gay offenders is tiny compared to heterosexual offenders. However, now that homosexual youth will be allowed, I can speak from experience, that the bullying and discrimination from the other youth would be severe. Kids at that age can be ruthless. Some adults are not much better. Regardless of their preference, no child should have to face that ridicule. We may now see long time sponsors of troops pulling their support, these sponsors mostly churches would pull out for religious reasons. You will have parents and others saying that their kids might get hit on by gay kids, or may “catch†gay, ridiculous but true. What it boils down to is that Homosexuals are people to and deserve the same rights and opportunities as any one else, they are facing and fighting against fear discrimination, as well as an organization with deep religious and moral roots. I am indifferent to and respect everyone’s religion and sexual preference. I generally like everyone. But there are two distinct sides to this equation; each has its merits, and downfalls. Therefore, I’m torn between agreeing and disagreeing.2 points

I am pro gun but I am pro property rights and employer rights even more. I wish I could carry my firearm everywhere I go but I can't. And I am fine with that because if I can force someone to do something against their will then that means someone can do the same to me. I am glad, I truly am, that everyone got what they wanted but I just don't understand what this did to really change things for employees. It does not protect them from termination for having a firearm in the parking lot, just says they can legally possess it there. The employer can still fire an employee as well as dictate no firearms on his property as a condition of employment. We will have taken a major hit to our freedoms when the government tells a boss he cannot fire an employee that violated company policy. Nothing in the law says you can having anything on the private property that the owner doesn't want there. The owner of the property can still ask you to leave for having a gun. And if you don't you are breaking the law. It was, and still is, legal to have a firearm in the vehicle on school property if you are delivering or picking up. Once you become and employee you follow your boss's rules or don't work there. Students are not employees so they should be able have the firearm left in the car IAW the law providing it isn't a condition of attending the private school. In that case they follow the institution's rules or find another school. I am glad I can have a gun in the parking lots but the law doesn't keep the owner of that parking lot from removing me.2 points

Changing possession in vehicle on school property from a felony to legal behavior seems most significant part to me. I wouldn't be surprised if some case law might come from TN college campus at some point too -- dunno about the employment part, but I'm not so sure at all it's going to be okay to expel a student for complying with state law, and especially one that takes funds from the state in the first place. - OS2 points

I believe OhShoot was making a play on your misuse of the word 'deft' when you obviously meant 'deaf'. 'Deft' generally indicates that a person/group of people are adept at something or, as the online version of Merriam-Webster puts it, "characterized by facility and skill."2 points

You are overlooking a couple of points. Yes, an employer can fire you for virtually any reason or no reason. However, it matters to an person's UIB if he is fired for cause or not. This law does take away the ability of an employer to press criminal charges against you for carrying on a "posted property"; while I don't know if it's EVER happened at least it can't happen now. It also negates the threat of criminal charges for having a firearm in your vehicle while parked in "posted" parking lots at places like shopping malls, etc. We'll get a good parking lot law eventually; similar to those that some 19 other states already have...we'll just have to wait until we get a governor and legislative leadership with some balls.2 points

I still don't think he should have been charged with a crime for it though. The person was obviously making an attempt to illegally enter his home and apparently ignored verbal warnings that he was armed and willing to defend himself. I think this vet made a conscious decision to use the weapon as a deterrent without having to take the life of the felon. He may have been wrong by the absolute letter of the law, however that law wasn't written for these types of situations.2 points

"Warning shots" are for TV and movies. Oregon is becoming a place for whimps and idiots. That aside, I'm not so sure that this veteran would have been treated any differently in Tennessee. if you are justified in giving a "warning shot" then you are justified in shooting to stop the threat; if the threat hasn't reached the point where deadly force is justified then neither is a warning shot. The fact that he gave a warning shot indicates to me this veteran perhaps wasn't sure that this bugler was enough of a threat to justify deadly force and if the veteran who was there wasn't sure then why would the police be??? Several don't care just because its California. But there are a lot of us that realize that California serves as a testing ground for the majority of gun control laws that propagate throughout the several states. Think of any restriction on firearms ownership in the U.S. and it most likely originated in California.2 points

You are quoting a case where the SCOTUS held in a 6-3 vote that the DUI checkpoints in question met the 4th amendment standard of reasonable search and seizure. It is not unlawful for you to avoid a DUI checkpoint. But if a chase car is free they will be on you like a fat kid on cake. How far do you think you can drive before committing a violation of the vehicle code? Don't drink and drive. The only people that will help you or be on your side is the ones you pay.1 point

I was in Cabela's today in Louisville KY. The shelves were stocked. Fully stocked. Even, wait for it... .22LR. Buying restrictions were still in place. But they had 100+ bricks of Remington $24/525 Golden Bullet and Winchester $30/500 in the wooden box. Plenty of CCI Minimag $9/100 and several other flavors. Brass cased PMC .223, $10/20. Brass cased PMC FMJ 9x19mm $20/50. Plenty of Modern Sporting Rifles, even on the used rack. It was nice.1 point

Yikes! Apparently a lot of Justice 4 Trayvon folks these days suffer from "the ends justifies the means" syndrome. Zimmerman's being rail-roaded, I am absolutely convinced of that now.1 point

Yeah, adding a pistol grip to the Mossy's is problematic but with a standard stock I prefer the tang safety and slide lock of the Mossy. You don't have to move your hand to work either, unlike the 870/Pardner. Never had an issue putting stocks on the Pardners myself so that's new one to me. The Knoxx Spec-Ops stocks fit fine on the Pardners and the IAC's in my experience. I put them on 3 of them using the supplied bolts. The Pardners will take some 870 barrels. Pardner barrels fit the 870 but 870's barrels will only fit an extended mag tube Pardner. The barrel bracket on the 870 is a bit farther out than the Pardner's. I can say that 870 bolts, carriers, action bars, side saddles, forearms, triggers, and mag followers are interchangeable with the Pardner.1 point

You seem to have Haslam confused with Corker. - OS1 point

I like the Pardner better. It is an 870 clone with a better heavier receiver and beefier parts. The Maverick's are fine guns, but are a cheaper versions of the budget 500. They also loose the benefit of the Mossberg over the 870's in that they use a cross bolt safety instead of the tang safety. If you like the Mossberg, bump up and get a 500. If not the Pardner is an excellent option. I've had several and really like them.1 point

In my younger and dumber days ... I hit five junebugs in rapid succession going a little over 70 mph wearing a tshirt. The last one hit me on the left nipple ... It hurt so bad I pissed in my pants. I now have very high quality gear ... Even that did not stop me from getting a fractured scapula last fall. It is not if you crash ... it is when you crash.1 point

I would agree with this but I tend to doubt that most gays are abusive. If we as gun owners start getting on the bandwagon of blaming a whole group for the actions of a few we may as well just give up now. Oh wait, this is different. This is for the children.1 point

20 years ago I would be in the same frame of mind. Now, I'm 60 years old, severe arthritis in left wrist from breaking it 20 years ago, worn out knee that should have been replaced 3 years ago and has seen several surgeries, a pinned ankle and an anchor in my shoulder. I also have 3 degenerated discs......My fighting days are over. I will not be a punching or kicking bag for no man. I try to be cordial to everyone because its the right thing to do, and not out of fear. I will walk away if I can because I cannot run. Pursue at your own risk.1 point

Jack slowly leaned over, laying the weapon, which he had just used to suppress the threat he felt from the young man, onto the ground. He was sure to move slowly as to not give the officer a reason to fire on him. The officer then commanded, "hands on your head, now!" Jack complied, "take ten steps forward!" Jack was now within about ten feet of the officer, "Turn around! Good, now get down on your knees!" Jack complied completely not wanting to end up like the young man, "Face on the pavement, now!" Jack was beginning to get worried and was mulling over in his head what he was going to tell the officer 'sorry man, he looked like one of those things from the Romero movies so I just went and did the world a favor and shot him in the face.' frowning, he thought, 'Yeah, that'd go over real well'. As the officer handcuffed him, he grabbed Jack by the shoulders, "Stand up." Helping him get on his feet, Jack could see, now that he was really up close, that the officer was an older man, probably in his late fifties possibly early sixties, more than likely nearing retirement, his name tag read Brigsby at that moment the paramedics arrived on the scene. The officer walked Jack to the front quarter of his fender and asked Jack, "do you have any weapons in your pockets, drugs, or any other paraphernalia I should be aware of before searching you? I don't wanna jam my hand in there to have it find a needle." Jack shook his head, "No drugs or anything like that sir but there is my pocket knife on my right side." The officer then equiped a pair of leather gloves and removed the Kershaw pocket knife, along with Jacks cell phone, a small LED Surefire light, the magazines for his pistol, and finally his wallet. Brigsby removed Jacks license and handgun carry permit, reading off the name listed, "Jack Malone, huh?" The officer sat Jack down and calmly asked,"What the hell happened here son?" Jack looked at him solemnly and responded, "He, he just kept coming. He wouldn't stop, I shot him in the shoulder and that didn't even phase him..." Brigsby then pulled out a notepad and pen and then began to take notes, "What weapon did he have?" Jack then realized that this is where it's going to get a bit more, complex, "He didn't have one." Brigsby gave a quizzcal look to Jack, "Then where did you perceive the threat from?" Jack shut his eyes, remembering the stare that the young man and the driver gave him, something he would later call, the 'dead eye', "I'm going to calmly explain the events that unfolded but first tell the paramedics NOT to touch the other body, please, it's for the safety of everyone!" Brigsby looked puzzled once again by his statement, "Son, just what the hell are you..." At that moment both Brigsby and Jack heard one of the paramedics scream out loud, it was a young woman in her early twenties, she grasped her hand as an artery had been bit clean in two, it began to spurt blood in pulsations, soaking the pavement in crimson. "The stiff here bit me!!!" It wasn't but a minute later after her coworker began to tend to her hand that she was laying on her side vomiting a mix of blood and bile. Jack yelled to Brigsby, "SIR, PLEASE! Un-cuff me, this is about to get really bad!" Brigsby ignored him but realized that there still wasn't another officer on scene and requested backup, the response he received was that ALL other units were assisting with similar cases and that help would arrive as soon as humanly possible. "We're on our own", looking to the other paramedic, "Son, what's your name?" the paramedic trying to get the bleeding to stop let alone figure out what was wrong with his partner responded, "Aaron sir!", he said very panicked. "Aaron, I want you to stay with her. I'm going to check on my suspect, stay positive bud." Brigsby had never seen anything like this before so he was going to ask the only person whom even had an inkling as to what was happening and he just so happened to be in custody. "Jack, tell me just what the living hell is going on here." Jack mulled it over in his head in how to explain it without sounding like a loon, which no matter which way he said it to himself, he still sounded crazy. "Sir, I think its a virus. With how fast it's acting I'd say its a weaponized virus which would explain the sudden and random act of Martial Law." Brigsby pondered on it for a second, "Son, you might be right but we need to..." At that moment Aaron called to Brigsby, "Sir, I'm losing her! I need to get her to the hospital, can you secure this scene until more help arrives!?" The officer nodded and yelled to him, "Son, you get her the hell out of here and godspeed to ya!" Aaron loaded her up into the van, with the help of Brigsby, onto the gurney. "Take good care of her!", the van pulled away in a hurry heading towards the hospital. Brigsby then heard snapping coming from the body on the ground now facing up, the corpse stared at him while Brigsby looked at it in awe and sheer disbelief, "This can't be real..." Jack then yelled with all his might, "BRIGSBY!!! You asked me 'what threat did I perceive', well, do you see it now, in his eyes? He looks at you like you're there but not there, that's the same kind of eyes that the man I shot had!" Brigsby looked at Jack, in horror , immediately drawing his weapon pointing towards him, "Hey, wait a minute don't..." Before he could finish the older officer fired six rounds...1 point
