  1. That's the thing, they did show ID and the cop continued to be a dick and harass them. They weren't breaking the law, he knew they weren't breaking the law and yet he continued to be unprofessional and rude. What it boils down to is the cop had a chip on his shoulder, didnt like that they were armed and was attempting to legislate from his badge. He deserves to be on a desk making coffee for real cops.

  3. I'm not convinced these girls went out fishing, as it seems the video doesn't start until they are approached. Honestly, with some of the crap that goes on I don't think it is a bad idea to record encounters with LEOs, especially when one of them shows up with an M4 at the ready like in this video. Really? Is that necessary for a group of young girls eating lunch and bothering no one to show up with rifle at the ready? Then there is the part where this cop acts like a total dick. That is also unnecessary. Yes, someone called the cops so he as compelled to investigate, but had he been half as courteous as the citizens he was investigating there would have been nothing remarkable about this video. I'm not the kind to go pick fights with law enforcement, but if this monkey would have approached me in this manner it would not have ended well for either of us. I'm not in the mood to be treated like that by an over zealous douche hammer who thinks his badge makes him all powerful. This is the guy that gives good cops a bad rep.

  6. Unless the officer has a RAS that someone has committed crime, then to be blunt, it isn't any of their damn business. When did things change that it was incumbent upon a citizen (subject?) to prove that they are innocent of any wrongdoing to the overseers...errr...authorities?

  10. Oh gawd! Reminds me of one of my favorite "oldie but goodies." (And, if it were true, would certainly fit this thread.) True or not, here it is:   So I’m driving home driving home from dinner last night with my wife, it’s like 16 degrees out. Cold as hell. Icicles on your balls kind of cold. So anyways we’re going around a slow corner and she (my wife) spots a baby skunk lying on the side of the road. Being the animal lover she is, I get yelled at to pull over and help the little guy. “Fine, I’ll stop but you gotta get out and help it.” I say. So she jumps out of the car and picks up this baby skunk. Poor little guy is half frozen but still alive. She says, “What should I do?” “Bring it in the car” I tell her and we’ll “warm him up”. So she gets in with the skunk and asks, “How should I keep him warm?” I tell her “Put it between your legs.” She replies “What about the smell?” So I say, “Just hold his nose!” The doctors expect I’ll make a full recovery, but the skunk she used to beat me with died during the incident.   :leaving:

  12. For roughly the past 20 years almost all I've listened to in the car is political talk radio. Between that and the news on TV I have gradually gotten frustrated with both parties to the point that I feel nearly hopeless. The more I listened/watched the further away from the Constitution I feel our gov't has gotten. I vested a lot of hope in the Tea Party. I feel like if they got elected in large numbers we'd at least shrink the gov't and get our economy in check. I don't trust them with moral/social issues, though. Given enough power, I fear they'd try to install a theocracy of sorts, which is not Constitutional either. So, I try not to listen to as much news as I used to. A few hours a week keeps me angry enough to hate the Dems the most, but the GOP isn't much better. Neither party cares what the people want any more. You know who does? Miranda Lambert, Dropkick Murphys Luke Bryan, Flogging Molly, AC/DC, Lynrd Skynrd, Godsmack, Lady Antebellum, etc. Listening to them more has made me more happy in the past year than the news did in the previous 20 years.

  14. Our system of government has not failed. What has failed are the people in the government and those who make a living lying about it in the media (both left and right!). What has failed is the two party system, as George Washington and other founding fathers told us it would.  Most of us are actually are  no more a Republican or a Democrat than we are the man on the moon! We are just American citizens who may or may not share a few principles with either side. We don't gather any reward from either party and we are not part of the party decision process, which actually puts these idiots in office. How can you call it an election when you just vote for somebody the party has decided will go to D.C. ? The two parties currently in power are professional bribe takers and have proven they cannot function at running a  government. There is a need for some sort of party organization to handle the political process in this large a nation, but the present parties need to go, or at least go through some radical changes.

  20. The fact is that for a long time (...since the civil war; and even before...); insiders have been cuttin deals and makin money with gubmt connections... We can quibble about who the latest one is; but it's all the same.... The fact is that insider deals are a part of this country's political history; and part of most every other country's political history as well...   Folks need to think thru these things very clearly and soberly... The truth is that there is no "threshold of dishonesty and insiderism"... You either make the decision to be honest and ethical in all your dealings; or you make the decision to do the "insider" thing...    This whole thing, at the end of the day, is a personal ethical decision... Honesty and integrity at the individual and corporate level are a personal choice... You are either honest or not...   Sadly, a goodly portion of folks of all political stripes and positions great and small; make the wrong choice...   We cannot as an individual, a society, or as a nation say one thing and do the other... When you do those things, you put on full display the fact that you are, in fact, a hypocrite without honor...   If you worship the god of money, you can be bought; the only thing left to haggle about is the price...   Could it be that one of the roots of our nation's problems is this very issue?... I think it is... Do not expect your brother, your spouce, your trading partner, your child, or your local politician to be ethical if you, yourself are not ethical....   leroy

  26. Do you never take it out of the holster? I've never had this issue, but I unholster mine each day to lock it up (I have small kids) in the bedside safe. I would imagine that the body moisture and salts get absorbed onto the holster, so it would make sense that it would cause rust if exposed to that for prolonged periods.

  29. Since I'm on my ipad I'm not going to try to multi quote and edit a bunch of posts on here. We started homeschooling last year our group of 4 boys (13,10,4,3). I will tell you I was the first one to raise objections against homeschooling based on the ability of my wife to teach our children and also on the social aspects. What I have come to discover is that even my average intelligence wife can handle teaching complex subjects to my above average intelligence children (my 13 year old could explain the different types of symbiotic relationships at 4 years old). The amazing thing in today's world is that the internet provides an immense amount of learning tools for areas that one may not be great at. When she struggles with a topic or just can't get the point across in a manner that works for the child we turn to the internet to find another way to explain it. If that doesn't work then there is a wonderful group of homeschooling parents in the area that we can turn to for help. This is not an endeavor that has to be conquered alone. Most areas have groups and even co ops to utilize the strengths of each individual in the group. As for the social side. Well between church, scouts, and sports we have it covered without the problem kids. The benefit is that we can cover material at a pace that I can be sure that my sons have learned what they need to know. That means if algebra comes easy then we don't have to dwell. If they are struggling with science we can work longer on it to be sure we have sufficient comprehension. And best of all we don't have to teach to the test. And probably the best part is that I can go to work relaxed knowing that my kids teacher is armed. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

  32.   Smokey, I did a 6.8 years ago when they were the new "hot" AR thing.  Didn't see enough performance over the 5.56 to want to keep it when I had a 458 Socom sitting next to it in the safe.  I decided to go 6.5 on this one, and YES, its going to be a bit more to build, but the performance and range on this over 5.56 were enough to ensure I won't see that remorse this time.   Getting the high end CMT upper/lower set just made me want to get the rest as high end stuff as well.  I started a thread today looking for other 6.5 owners to post up their sources for parts.  I'm seeing ammo in quite a few places and since I reload, I'll just buy components to keep going.

  33. Well, the posts seem to follow an assumption that the government or society or "someone else" being responsible for teaching your kid is a bad thing.  Up to a point, I can agree, that may be the case.  But you take the not terribly uncommon issue of a kid that is significantly brighter than his parents.   I know a few kids like that, its maybe 10% of the population, and in some cases, the kid is still not a shining star, just average with dunce parental units.   So I have to ask, if you are gonna homeschool, and your kid turns out to be brighter than you, WHO is going to teach him/her?   If YOU never got past algebra 2 and the kid is ready for differential equations, for example?  If YOU never got past general science but the kid wants calculus based physics?  ETC.   School also teaches social interactions, however as an introvert I got little enough from that side of things and would have been fine without it.  SOME kids need social interactions, though, and homeschooling parents must find some way to fill this void for kids with such a personality.   Point is, some parents are simply not qualified to teach their kid past about the 8th grade tops.   Very few parents are capable of teaching a kid well enough to earn AP credit.   A significant % of parents could not teach a kid to get a very high SAT or ACT score, and if those parents took those tests, would not get very high score.     ---  there comes a point when *someone else who is qualified* needs to take over the job.   If you make it private and fee based, then only the rich can go to school, making it difficult to break out of poverty. If you make it public and free, as now, anyone can have a chance.   And society is occasionally rewarded when, rarely but now and again, a super bright kid makes it out of public school and accomplishes something great in a field of science or research or something.   If he could not have paid tuition for private schools early on, maybe it would not have happened.   I am not saying that public school is awesome.  I am just saying, there are very valid reasons for public school. I am not saying homeschooling is bad -- just that NOT ALL parents are qualified for it.

  36. The (already high) premiums on the O'care site are wrong - actual premiums are higher   Existing plans are being canceled.  Replacement plans are costing hundreds more - and how about that $6000 deductible?   Millions are going to end up paying the fine/tax because they're unable to sign up.   Those that tried to delay this were called everything from bomb throwing terrorists to domestic enemies by the left.   Delay?  Absolutely not.  Let 'em have it - good and hard.  Elections coming up next year, the Democrat party really deserve to choke on the fruits of their labor.

  37. there was and it gone. when I was a kid 12, 13 & 14. my parents would take me to the gray hound bus station with my 22 mag level action. in a soft case in the seat with me and I rode the bus about 125 miles where my grandfather would pick me up to go to deer camp and of course back home again. no one ever looked twice and never saw any L.E. there was a DQ at the stop and I could just walk in. also everyone had guns in window rack, when I got old enough so did I, but never left them over night. I never had one stolen or knew of anyone that did. but that was years ago. when a long gun was a bolt, lever etc. I would not do that today, because I am sure it would come up missing. this was a time before the evil black rifle and AK.

  38. I have zero desire to carry a log gun in public. That would be a true pain in the ass. However, I don't think it should be illegal either. Too bad we can't trust our own to exercise good judgment. If this law were overturned every retard in the state would run to Walmart or Starbucks with their loaded AR that they barely know how to shoot.

Seriously.   Originally was an out for an "army or navy pistol", 'cause most all "them" folks couldn't afford them. This law is still on the books in any number of cities around TN. as it was copied from the state law enacted in 1870. It was the ordinance that Kwik took on in Belle Meade; Knoxville has it on the books also.   - OS

  40. I voted yes but I think it needs to be a total relaxation down to the word weapon.  That is, I would see *all* handheld weapons be made legal to carry (prefer: no permit needed).  Whether its a black rifle, AK pistol, nunchucks, switchblade, pepper spray, brass knuckles, sword, axe, you name it, all should be legal.   There is no reason for melee weapons to be illegal in a society that has concealed pistols on every 10th person.    And the penalty for ANY violence against another person should be so stiff that no one even THINKS of harming another person with any of these or other weapons or even unarmed.   The act is the crime, punish the act.  The tools used are of no importance.

  41. Well I actually voted no to this because the thought of having a bunch of people walking around on the sidewalks and in malls and grocery stores with AR's and AK's would really be unnerving in so many ways I can't list them. I don't have issues with anyone wanting to own and shoot a dozen of them if the want to in the correct surrounding and even to hunt with. I just have this picture in my mind of seeing them in Malls and Busy parking lots and sidewalks filled with children and adults and it is not a good picture. Back when I was in high school I had a deer rifle and a shotgun in the rifle rack in back window of my truck in parking lot at high school with plans on going hunting after school. Different time in a different country than we live in today. ..........jmho

  42. Here's something that may be handy for folks about to build a rifle    http://click.icptrack.com/icp/relay.php?r=47316890&msgid=387669&act=YDC6&c=724433&destination=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ar15.com%2Fgunstruction%2F   ar15.com has built  an "AR 15 3-d builder" with 700+ different parts to choose from. It also adds up your build cost using either MSRP or their regular prices, I didn't pay attention to that. It seems to give a good final rendering of what the gun will look like when completed with your parts in your chosen color.

  44. while I too mostly carry concealed, I disagree thay open carry is asking for trouble. They weren't doing anything wrong or illegal. I think a more appropriate statement is the cop was looking for trouble. My dad was a LEO for thirty plus years and he always treated people with repect until he had a reason not to. sent barefoot from the hills of Tennessee

  45. For one, that is why I don't carry open. I don't go fishing for a confrontation or go out to show off I have a gun. I have been pulled over several times by LEO's while driving for what I would consider bogus stops here in my town back when I first got my carry permit. Things like I didn't see your seat belt and of course I was asked if I was armed due to the fact that it tells the police by your license plate to you possess a carry permit. I guess they ask hoping they will catch me packing and not have my permit with me. All of that took place for about the first year after I got my permit but now all the police do is wave and I wave back as we pass each other on the road. I think all in all the girls should have checked out what the laws are in MO. before going into the state because each states laws read differently and if your going to visit a neighboring state check their carry laws first. If they have a carry law but it is conceal only then you either don't carry or you carry concealed...............jmho.
