Someone should start hanging out at Wal-Mart and take pictures of these a-hole that repeatedly buy it up every day. Start a page on the Internet called "Ammo Hoarders of Wal-Mart" and post their pics up. A modern day Wall of Shame.6 points

Lawyer or no lawyer, if this is what happened, you are going to have a very hard time justifying actions. Why? It's very difficult to provide a reasonable explanation of how a handcuffed individual held inside of a secure correctional facility can pose a serious "security threat" by taking their hands off of the wall. This tells me that one of three scenarios was going on here: 1) You had the inmate handcuffed in front, which is dumb, 2) the inmate was cuffed in the rear and had his back against the wall and could not pose much of a threat unless they were going to bite you or kick you, neither of which was described by you, or 3) the person was handcuffed, took his hands off of the wall, you got pissed and put hands on him because you felt your authority was being challenged, and now you are concocting this narrative to cover your bad decisions. My vote is for option three because of the other points highlighted in red above. Clearly, your co-worker felt the "security threat" actually came from you because they felt the need to physically restrain you and not the inmate. I have worked around enough cops and corrections officers to know that they do not physically restrain a fellow officer unless they are completely out of control. I believe you very likely were out of control at that moment due to your own statement about "F***ing up" your co-worker in a later debriefing. The NYPD is known for their heavy-handed tactics - as you so eloquently state yourself - so I have little doubt that you used unjustified force against that inmate, and now you are paying the price for not following the law and policy. I hope I am mistaken, but I'm confident I am not.3 points

Sorry but in this case, the enemy of my enemy is also my enemy. There are only a handful of Republicans I could in good conscience vote for and they all come from the wacko bird conference. If the Republicans stick with the establishment types, they will lose the folks like me again next time and every time. I won't speak for anyone else but I think most Republicans really don't understand how little credibility they have on the position of shrinking the government. Every election cycle they talk about it, but every budget or spending bill rapes the taxpayers or the taxes payers' children even more than the last one. My dislike and distrust of the Republican Party is to the point where sometimes it would seem that a Democrat would be a better choice under the premise that "it is better to have an honest enemy than a false friend". I dislike knives in my back and the Republican Party hasn't done anything other than stab the taxpayers in the back for many decades Edited to add: I thought a vote WAS a political statement? Plus, if the job is shrinking the government, the Republicans have more than 5 decades of track record showing they are not up to getting that particular job done, or even started.3 points

http://masonconservative.typepad.com/the_mason_conservative/2013/11/virginia-democrat-calls-for-forcing-doctors-to-accept-medicare-and-medicaid-patients.html FYI last night at the Great Falls Grange debate, Democrat delegate candidate Kathleen Murphy said that since many doctors are not accepting medicaid and medicare patients, she advocates making it a legal requirement for those people to be accepted. She did not recognize that the payments are inadequate to cover the doctors' costs. She also did not recognize there is a shortage of over 45,000 physicians now and that it is forecast to be 90,000 in a few years. Democrats appear to want to make physicians slaves of the state, but Democrats don't admit they would just drive more doctors out of practice into retirement and other occupations. The Obamacare law and regulations are causing millions of people to lose their health insurance, drop many doctors and hospitals. The HHS internal forecast is 93 million Americans would lose their health insurance due to the Obamacare law and rules about adequacy of insurance. Our government is going to enslave us all in time if we do not get out the VOTE!2 points

I voted yes because yes it should be legal. If I am hiking camping or in the mountains I should be able to carry any thing I want. If you are dumb enough to carry your AR into Walmart than maybe you should be shot. But it should not stop people who want to carry there rifle when outin the woods from doing so for fear of being harassed. Short story have a friend who was on his property with his AR he owns 90 acres that is bordered by national forest. He had a young forest service guy pull up on his property and ask him what he was doing with that rifle. He told him i am on my propery and it is my rifle why do I need a reason to be carrying it. The guy told him if I catch you on the forest service land I will take it from you. He told him you are right on both counts you will have to catch me and you will have to take it.2 points

Obama won by a landslide. The people you speak of would not have made a difference. And even if Romney was in office I guarantee we would be in the same position. Oh, and before you ask. Yes, I did hold my nose and vote for Romney. No, I won't do it again. If the Republicans don't come up with a respectable candidate I'll vote 3rd party or stay at home.2 points

There are always two sides to the story and the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Even the OP's version is questionable behavior so I am sure it was a lot worse in reality. That one sentence is very telling. You say you can control yourself as you threaten a fellow officer. Was the inmate handcuffed in the front or the back? Also, were you fired or did you resign in lieu of being fired? Not a FOP member? The way I see it there have been enough people who have seen the case, as well as your mannerisms and demeanor, to say with great certainty that you should probably not have a HCP. If you are being paid for providing security in TN you MUST have a guard license issued by the state of TN. Armed or unarmed doesn't matter but if it is armed you must have an armed guard license that requires a qualification with your carry weapon(s). If you get hurt you might be SOL because you were breaking the law at the time you were injured. An inmate staring at you in NOT a reason to take them to the ground. An inmate taking his hands off the wall and staring at you is NOT a reason to take them to the ground. And we all know that taking someone to the ground is never done gingerly. If you worked in a hostile enviroment why did you not quit as soon as it became apparent. That allegation will get tossed out because it is obvious and allegation that it retaliatory in nature. I am not deleting or locking threads to save people from themselves. If another mod wants to they can but David has unlocked several threads I locked at the OP's request. I am trying to see fault in the process and I cannot. There is always the option of getting a HCP from another state.2 points

The reason there were so many European surplus guns is because War was the sport of Kings. European countries went to war at the drop of a hat. Weapons HAD to be stockpiled because no ruler wants an armed peasantry. Declare war on your neighbor...arm the farmers and city hoodlums and have at it. when it's over collect the guns and get them ready for the next time. America didn't work like that. For the first hundred and fifty years we were hard to get at. Our people were armed and very good at unconventional warfare. And we were protecting us...not some petty tyrant.2 points

Plenty of blame to go around it seems. 1)Idiot who brought loaded gun to gunshow to sell. 2)Person who checked the gun coming in (I'd cut a tiny bit of slack here). 3)Vendor who put a loaded gun on their table 4)Idiot who picks up gun off table and pulls trigger without checking. All four should have been put in stocks in the parking lot.2 points

I finally bought myself an AK! I did so about a month ago and have not really said anything about it on here. I know there is a lot of negative opinions of the Century Arms company, and I will share my experience with this rifle thus far, as well as talk about what I have on the way for it. Here is the rifle: This is how I received it from widener's. The AK platform is totally new to me, although I am used to the sks. They are similar enough that I had no problems with cleaning or dis-assembly. Out of the box, this rifle is pretty much dead on. I was able to immediately hit my 8" plate off hand at 100 or so yards. The main problem I have had with this rifle is the "newness" of the gun. It would jam quite a bit when I first started shooting it. This has disappeared after 500 rounds or so of breaking in. Now I can bump fire an entire magazine without a hiccup! AK Kit/Mags I HIGHLY recommend the AK-74 kit from classicfirearms.com if you want to get 4 more, yes FOUR more magazines for CHEAP. http://www.classicfirearms.com/accessories/ak74accpkgblone This ^^^^ is the link to the kit that I bought. I comes with all the goodies to get you started enjoying your AK-74. Now, I made a big deal about the magazines. They don't just send you 4 Tapco or some other cheap mags, they send you genuine Bulgarian/Russian mags! My kit came with two circle 21 mags, a circle 10, and a Russian mag. Go look up the current going prices for those on gunbroker.com, and then look at this package and tell me that ain't a deal! Ammo 5.45x39 The next plus I have found is the ammunition costs. Widener's currently has 1080 round spam cans for $175 a piece. That's .16 per round!!!!! Hell, .22 is more expensive right now. I bought 3000 rounds and I have been enjoying it so much that I've already almost shot an entire can of it. I plan on picking up more soon before they raise the price or it sells out. Optic I have been debating what type of optic to put on this rifle. I didn't like the look of the large or standard sized scopes on the gun. I also wasn't sure how I was going to mount the scope to the rifle. It comes with the side rail already mounted, so I chose this route. I like the idea that I can zero the optic and then simply slide it off when I need to clean the gun. When putting the optic back, it should be pretty close to where it was when it was removed. I opted out of a traditional scope because of the size and the practicality of it's use in East Tennessee geography. The longest shot I have around here hunting or otherwise on the farm is 200-300 yards. That is about the optimum range for this rifle anyway. I ordered a Russian made optic, the Rakurs-A. I'm not sure what to call this type of sight...it looks like a red dot, but it has no dot. There is a fixed reticle like a scope and it is tritium lit. This is one of Russia's premium dot optics. The only one better than this, is the model identical to it, but it has a focus feature. I do not see the need, as this one is crystal clear. Upon installing this optic, the thing was waaaaayy loose on the side rail. It wobbled left to right, so I emailed the seller to see if there was an adjustment I could do to tighten it up. There was. So now, it's rock solid! It mounts centered over the dust cover, and thus aligns somewhat with your iron sights. This model is zeroed at 440 meters from the factory. They claim you can make a one shot kill at that distance with this. Stock/Grips The picture at the top looks like an all blacked out rifle; however, the buttstock and the top hand guard are plum. The pistol grip and the bottom hand guard are US replacements I assume. When shooting this rifle, the buttstock is very short. It does not shoulder me or my larger friends well. I have opted to purchase a VLTOR buffer tube and Magpul CTR 5 position adjustable stock, with 1/4" cheek riser for accommodating the optic. I also am picked up a Mako pistol grip with storage compartment to replace that thin, polymer one. It feels much better in the hand, and is so comfortable to hold that I hardly want to let go. I keep picking it up just to hold it. ^^^^This is with everything installed. The last thing I have thought about putting on this rifle is perhaps a Magpul angled foregrip. My uncle's AR has one, and I really like the feel of shooting with that grip. The only problem I have with that is putting the rail forend on. I would want the side rails covered. I also want this rifle to maintain a level of practicality and not get too crazy with the add ons. What do you guys think? Am I being too "tacticool"1 point

My baby brother just got promoted to Chief Petty Officer in the Navy. I thought long and hard about what to get him to commemorate the occasion and came up with this. The first pic is the Chief Petty Officer's Emblem and the second pic is his rate (Explosive Ordnance Disposal Master Technician). The grips are Hogue Extreme Aluminium in matte black (26160). He carries a P226 for "work" so I thought he would enjoy these grips. The gun is mine for reference. I am seeing a lot of the mindset the article references displayed here. The thought that the libertarian vote would belong to Republicans or conservatives if not for a third party candidate is just plain wrong. As a general rule libertarians and republicans don't agree on social issues. Where we do agree is on the stated fiscal positions of the Republicans like shrinking the size of government. The big problem is that the Republicans don't have any credibility when it comes to shrinking the size of government. Y'all talk a good game then expand it every chance you get, yes that includes Saint Ronnie Raygun. So why should we vote for a Republican if we have any other option at all?1 point

Deer Down! First one of the season. Bow kills are such a rush! She came out of the woods to the right a few yards south of the sunlight on the ground at about 27 yards. I shot her with my Bear Archery Legion and 100gr Muzzy's and had a complete pass through. Only hunted about 45 minutes before she showed up. Very thankful for this deer! Disengaging from the fight ensures victory for the other side. It takes more than voting to win. You have to be engaged in the fight on the ground, teaching the youth, and sharing your knowledge and opinions, etc. The left loves the fight. They love their small progressive victories and they're starting to see the collective fruits of those victories. Find a part of the fight you enjoy and go for it. But the only way we win against such a well organized and funded left-wing is if we also fight collectively. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro v2.21 point

I strive to do business with a reputable honest business, preferably local but... When a business establishment voluntarily goes crazy after a single incident and caves into hysteria, sentiment, emotion and the liberal mantra. By not honoring and canceling existing pre-paid firearms orders, making it difficult to get a refund, getting rid of their existing firearm stock, raising prices sky high and leading in the plundering of their customers. I'll stand back and take a second look and see if these are the type of business's I want to support. Their business practices lead me to rename them and refer to them as: OXYMORON DIRT1 point

Growing up, my family never had a lot of money. My mom and grandmother canned a lot of food - either things we had grown, jelly from wild berries we picked or things they bought at an inexpensive price from the farmer's market. As an adult, I have still never had a lot of money. If I find a good price on something I like/regularly use, I will often 'stock up' on that item or items. Such things generally get used as a matter of course in my regular life, anyway, but would be 'onhand' if I needed them. As such, there is no concern about those things 'never' being used. I also like 'traditional' things (I said in another thread that I am an old soul) so things like canning, etc. simply appeal to me for some reason. Canning is especially useful when I make chili, soup, etc. because it is often difficult to make a 'small' batch of such things. So my mindset on canning is often as a good way to preserve leftovers that I'm not going to want to eat within a few days rather than preparing things specifically to can. A bonus from that is I can have jars of MY chili, soup, etc. sitting in the pantry, ready to grab and take to work for lunch. Now, I am definitely not prepared for a Mad Max world. Thing is, there are things like prescription meds that I really can't build a huge supply of, anyhow, and in an apocalyptic world, once the meds I have on hand run out I have no idea how long I would survive, anyhow. My goal (which I have not yet reached) is to have enough food, water, etc. on hand that I can last at least as long as my supplies of medicine hold out with enough extra to help my neighbors (my mom on one side and my sister and her family on the other) hold out, too. A more short term goal, however, is to be well enough prepared that I can be more or less 'comfortable' for a week or two without having to leave the house. See, where I now live is next door to the house we moved to when I was in middle school. Back then, it wasn't unusual for the power to go out (often in the middle of Winter) for two or three days. Outages of nearly a week were not unheard of. During such times, there was often enough snow/ice on the ground that getting out to go to town was not really an option. Luckily, we had a wood heater that mom could also use for cooking. We conserved the cool air in the refrigerator by not opening it any more than necessary and would sometimes put the more perishable foodstuff out in the snow to stay cold. We generally had battery-operated portable radios but would often just read by the light of one of mom's oil/kerosene lamps or play cards for entertainment. A few decades later, power outages are not as frequent but there was a time last Summer when our power was out for about three days and that was just due to rain/thunderstorms and resultant fallen trees, etc. Where we live is actually pretty much right on the Loudon/Roane County line but the nearest 'hub' or whatever you call it for our power company is in Decatur. That is miles and miles of power lines, meaning a lot of outage potential. It would not surprise me if a major snow event resulted in our power being out for a few days or even a week. Those are the kinds of things that I really try and prepare for. That said, since I am preparing, anyhow I figure that it wouldn't require too much more effort or change in mindset to prepare for events of somewhat longer duration. As others have said, the lessons I didn't learn from the last ammo 'shortage' have been learned from this one. By that, I mean I was already trying to maintain an on hand supply of at least some types of ammo that I shoot due to not being able to find some ammo types during the last 'shortage'. I also got set up to reload a couple of revolver calibers. Once the current shortage ends (when/if it ever really ends) I plan to increase the amount of ammo I keep on hand. I won't run out and buy it by the caseload, however. Instead, just like after the last 'shortage', I will buy a box or two at a time until I feel I have enough on hand and then will attempt to maintain the supply by replacing what I shoot. If I were insane rich would I build an underground bunker? You're damn right I would! It would be the mac daddy daddy mac of all underground bunkers. It would have its own generators (with redundant generators in case the first ones failed.) It would also be set up for solar in case all of the generators failed or I ran out of fuel, etc. It wouldn't be some dark, dank hole in the ground, though. It would have clearly designated living areas, bedrooms, a game room complete with a pool table, pinball machine and a big screen television with surround sound and a video game console complete with a huge collection of games. There would be guest quarters for friends/family. I think it goes without saying that it would have a very modern, well lit and well ventilated indoor shooting range. I'd have an awesome kitchen and a friggin' hydroponics room for growing plants for food. I'd have a fully stocked, industrial, walk-in freezer stacked with vacuum sealed meats and other frozen goods, a pantry that would put some mom and pop grocery stores to shame and possibly even a (somewhat detached and well ventilated) room to keep a few chickens in - along with food stores for them - so I could have fresh eggs. My walk-in beer-gerator would be the stuff of legend! I'd build it in a remote location in the hills in East Tennessee in an area that would only be accessible by pack mules, really kick-ass 4 wheel drive vehicles or a helicopter (with the tree cover allowing only the smallest of choppers to get through.) There would be a fully stocked pond on the grounds and I would work to cultivate a population of tasty wild animals. I would also likely try and start a small, private peach orchard, apple orchard and vineyard. Being insanely rich, meaning I didn't have to hold down a 'normal' job, working on wildlife management for the property as well as the orchards and vineyard would be my main 'employment' - although I would also do volunteer work (probably some kind of animal rescue/assistance.) The grounds would be completely surrounded by a ten-foot-tall chain link fence topped with razor wire, cameras - the whole nine yards - and I would commission quite possibly the world's largest 'NO SOLICITING' sign to be posted at the front gate. Thing is, though, that wouldn't just be a place to run and hide when/if things got bad. That would be my residence. Supplies would have a pretty good rate of turnover due to the kickass get togethers I would periodically throw for my friends and family. *SIGH* I am not insanely rich, however. Not even close. That means I will just have to try and shelter in place, eat the food I manage to store and hope a deer with a death wish periodically wanders through the back yard.1 point
