I think you are probably on to something but I don't think you are giving yourself and the mods enough credit. It helps that there are decent knowledgeable folks that are willing to help here but I think the way issues are handled as well as what is and is not allowed goes a long ways in keeping people drawn to this sight.4 points

Horse walks into a bar, sits down and sighs. Bartender sez, "why the long face?" --------------------------------- Guy walks into a bar, there's a horse mixing drinks behind the counter. Guy looks shocked. Horse sez, "whazamatter, you never seen a horse tending bar before?" Guy sez, "sure, I just can't believe the pig sold the place." -------- Guy walks into a bar, has monkey on his shoulder. Bartender says, "you can't bring him in here." It will reach our state eventually. We already see tons of liberals influencing our state. At some point we will see the tide turn enough that our guns will be seriously threatened. We have way too many who want something for nothing for our state to not become a liberal stronghold. Stand in Walmart or any other major grocery store after the first of the month and watch the EBT cards fly. And every single one of those will vote democrat as long as they continue to get their cupcakes, coffee, sirloins and lobsters tail for free. And along with those votes for free food comes votes against our guns. I have said it 90% of gun owners would turn their guns in. 7% would hide their guns away and 3% would actively fight. Problem is the 90% would readily rat out the other 10%. People might think I am awful but all those "assistance" or "benefit" programs should go away. And if they can't feed their children then they should do the right thing and turn them over to someone who can. I can guarantee that 90% of the items I see getting bought are not for the kids and if they are then the parents should not be parents. Using most of the EBT money for what I have seen just tells me they are as not bad off as they make people think. I know if I was in dire need, and I have been, I would not waste money on lobster because that is a lot of beans and rice. There should be a lifetime limit on assistance because everyone hits hard times from time to time. Make the lifetime limit 3 years. If you choose to use it from 18-21 then you are done for life. If at age 30 you hit hard times and your benefits have already been used you better have family or friends to take care of you. If you don't then you either starve or work. Too many people think they are too good to work, no wonder when the government is giving them everything. Hunger can be a powerful motivator and I bet those who are starving would gladly work for a few hamburgers a day. I bet people in the states that have constitutional carry are saying that they can't believe people in Tennessee don't stand up and willingly pay for their right to carry a firearm.3 points

Believe me after 4 sons, the only true birth control is abstinence, tubal ligation, or Vasectomy. We have close to 20 pairs of those crocs. The kids crocs rarely match they wear them anyway. Getting married, getting old, sure didn't work either. Headaches, bad back, I'm asleep, and other lame excuses didn't work either. Wanting a baby girl was like pouring gasoline on the fire.3 points

I'm not saying arm yourselves and go start a battle, but rather at least take the first damn step to preserving your rights and get off your ass and start doing something. It's got to be easier to fight against this anti-2A BS than hiding your guns out of state and running across America! Damn people! Wise up! Organize gun owners and like-minded folks to protest like the dirty pot smoking hippies do and camp out for days harassing these political asshats, etc. Protest when they go to work, follow them home and protest them outside their homes. We can make their entire stay in office absolutely miserable. We can win if we put in the time and work. I certainly will. I've been to Washington D.C many times to join in rallies and protest over the past few years. I've also been a part of the local pro-gun rallies. I stay on top of the political news. I call politicians, write letters, sign petitions, and donate money to those who are fighting for us and our rights. Let's not be weak-asses laying around moaning on the PC all day and make sure we fight these battle from every angle. I'll be dammed if I'm going to end up in a line like these guys who laid over and allowed this BS to happen. And I'll be dammed if I let them restrict our 2A rights anymore.2 points

What a boring morning... When my feet rapidly hit the ground getting out of bed early this morning anxious to get my day started, a dreadful thought immediately occurred. Darn! This is the best I'm going to feel all day long! No cotton mouth, no blurry vision and red eyes, no invisible five pound sledge hammer attacking me and keeping me constant company, no dry Ralph and his Buick and heave ho's? I envy you guys that celebrated New Year's Eve! You have something very exciting to look forward to today  Maybe 2015? Happy New Year!2 points

My wife and I have been supporting Fisher House ever since we saw them building a house at Bragg back in the mid 90s. http://www.fisherhouse.org/ A new Fisher House just opened in Murfreesboro on the York VA campus. WWP will NEVER get so much as a dime from us. I once had soldiers who needed some help with some family travel. My CSM contacted WWP and was told that No Direct Funding is ever provided to service members, but programs to support them are available. Try asking WWP to define what they mean by "programs and projects" and you will find out that they include events where Vets are used for fund drives. WWP is big on providing 'retreats" for wounded or injured soldiers and their caregivers like fishing and sport events (and WWP makes sure that the cameras are rolling and WWP staffers are also along for a free ride....). So, I don't Like WWP. But here are the facts. Below are the links from Charity Navigator that ranks the percent of the charity’s budget spent on the programs and services it delivers. Fisher House is at 96.6% http://www.charitynavigator.org/inde...5#.UqJzWj-A270 WWP is at 57.9% http://www.charitynavigator.org/inde...2#.UqJztD-A270 In other words, give a dollar to Fisher House and 97 cents goes to support soldiers and their families. Give a dollar to WWP and only 58 cents gets to a wounded warrior. And In Closing...... Fisher house is also one of only three military charities given an A+ rating by the American Institute of Philanthropy’s Charity Watch. http://www.charitywatch.org/toprated.html#veterans2 points

I can't believe they so willingly stood in line to register they arms and magazines. I have friends there and they are terrified of Bloomberg and his Safe act. They easily and willingly stood in line this week to register their guns. Just wait for the police to start kicking doors on those who didn't though. What a terrible breaking of constitutional law. Damn them.1 point

It's an odd thing, really. Kentucky has always had comparatively lax firearms restrictions in relation to Tennessee and many other states, and I think that has led to a certain amount of complacency among the people. Tennesseans have had to fight hard for things like the HCP and the ability to carry firearms in restaurants that serve alcohol, so I think we're more appreciative of those things here and as a result are more engaged in furthering our rights and protecting the ones we already have. I think that may be part of why the Kentucky gun forums aren't all that active.1 point

Bloomy started it. I think he's been after this for for a few years. cuomo is to blame. But that damn Bloomy has the money to personally help fund this crap. Either way, I don't see TN residents caving so easily. There would be an uprising.1 point

I think you have to accept that there's some risk of loss of value for certain things but that the risk is still better than some other things. There are definitely times not to buy though and the recent gold rush is one of them in my mind. Probably the best advice is to make a plan and stick with it. Don't go with your emotions because they'll steer you wrong.1 point

They tell a story about Grandpa Jones that's pretty funny, if not true. A little boy once asked him "Hey Grandpa, what'[s for supper?" He replied "Fried Bicycles you little b#^##&!" I work with a guy who asked him that once in passing, and got a single finger salute in return. I guess it loses it's humor after being asked so many times. :)1 point

I don't believe it will change anything. It may hold things up for a little while, but Obama will dance around it & probably try to ban religion. He's already well on his way to abolishing Christianity in the U.S. I've never thought I'd live to see such a crooked POS president get by with what he has. United States is becoming a socialist country as we speak.1 point

we simply cant have the lowest labor participation rate in decades, higher taxes, the ACA implementation and lower median incomes than years prior and have record high stock levels. The only reason it is this high is because the people trading don't care where the money comes from as long as it is coming in, and right now they are sucking on the teet of the bond buying fiasco. When you look at the market average, you have to also consider the volume for a complete picture. Right now we're over 16k and a very low volume which historically that reflects instability.1 point

I almost didn't post at the start of this thread. Different people look at thing differently and someone's sacred cow I may just look at as just hamburger. The thread has been thought provoking without anybody getting their panties in a bunch. That's good, the way we should do it. Happy New Year! Cherokee Slim1 point

You're going to get a different answer from everyone so ultimately you'll just have to pick a spot you love. Personally, I think East TN is the way to go. Anywhere from Crossville to Bristol should be great. Good luck!1 point

Sonny, it wasn't that long ago, there was a member on here that had a NICE Marlin 30-30 for sale for around $400. Don't know if he ever sold it or what part of the state he was in. But, I know if I had the funds at the time it was for sale I would have bought it.1 point

Its the "assault rifle' approach. They demonize something with misleading and intentionally wrong terminology in hopes of shutting down gun shows entirely. The left is *mightily* offended by gun shows and want them killed off. Remember, to the CA/NY/country-wide anti-gun crowd, the following things are, in THEIR minds, illegal... - buying and selling of guns, period - gun ownership, period - buying a gun or ammo without some form of ID and registration and preferably an entry into a database - buying a gun or ammo without a 200+ day waiting period - individual sales without a fee, tax, and registration and waiting period... - individual sales without background checking, preferably with additional fees and registration - buying of high powered guns, like the .22 LR which is rumored to have a range of OVER A MILE -- says so on the box! - gatherings of malcontents who freely distribute anti leftist propaganda - selling of components to MAKE extra special killer ammo just to name a few! Because of these and dozens of other evils, the left demonizes gun shows by playing the "gun show loophole" card every few months. After all, 98% of the public does not know any better, so why not tell them what is in their best interest, which is, simply, "gun shows r bad".1 point

One of my favorites is when your dealing with older cars that only had 5 digits on the odometer. No matter how old the car is or what kinda shape it's in, they never have over 100,000 miles on them. They will flat out tell you it's never been rolled over. Really.... the car is 25 years old and you have had it for two month's and you are swearing up and down its original miles.1 point
