  1. Well, here's what I did; While attending my Civil War Artillery units meeting today and while sitting in the dinning room of a local restaurant , I observed an elderly couple come in the door and sit down. The gentleman was wearing a black ball cap that said "WWII Veteran" and the word "Army", and it was adorned with a few award ribbons and a pair of Airborne Jump Wings and a 101st Screaming eagle pin. Him and his wife ate Schnitzel dinners and had coffee. I went up to the counter to pay for my lunch and I asked the waitress for their bill. She gave me a strange look and laid it on the counter. I handed her my card and said "Tell them their dinner is took care of and his service during WWII is greatly appreciated". Their lunch cost me $32 and some change but so what. I would have paid for it no matter what it cost. Me and a couple friends watched as the waitress went over to their table a little bit later and bent down to speak to the elderly couple, I'm guessing to explain that someone paid for their meal. He briefly look around the room (we were about 12 feet away) and it appeared that he was wiping his eyes. Paying it forward is done!   Airborne!   Dave

  2. Even if we do risk losing everything, why on earth should I chose to email my intentions to someone who I don't know? I am one of the most outgoing people on this site, hosting meets, get togethers and camp outs. I have networked and made preparations. Why would I risk all of that, all the friends and contacts, the plans and preparations by emailing an unknown entity at a yahoo address. If you wanna be taken seriously come out to a few of our shoots that members hold, shake some hands, drink some coffee, meet some people. That'll get you a lot farther than a first post full of fiery words. I am generally distrustful of people on the Internet. These kinds of things do much better to be discussed in person akong trusted individuals Tapatalk ate my spelling.

  3.   And taking them for non specific reason is overall a very bad idea. They don't work like vitamins in any way, and certainly don't build up your "resistance" to anything over time. Indeed, you're just training bacteria to adapt and resist them.   Overuse of antibiotics as a nation is the reason we have the super duper killer strep and staph and whatnot strains that have evolved.   And as tnguy says, have zero effect on any virus.   - OS

If you ever move to a country WITHOUT Walmart, you'll understand how awesome all that actually is.

  8. BILL HAS GONE AND DONE IT AGAIN... They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English. I can't even talk the way these people talk: Why you ain't, Where you is, What he drive, Where he stay, Where he work, Who you be... And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk. And then I heard the father talk. Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth. In fact you will never get any kind of job making a decent living. People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an Education, and now we've got these knuckleheads walking around. The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal. These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids. $500 sneakers for what? And they won't spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics. I am talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit. Where were you when he was 2? Where were you when he was 12? Where were you when he was 18 and how come you didn't know that he had a pistol? And where is the father? Or who is his father? People putting their clothes on backward: Isn't that a sign of something gone wrong? People with their hats on backward, pants down around the crack, isn't that a sign of something? Isn't it a sign of something when she has her dress all the way up and got all type of needles [piercing] going through her body? What part of Africa did this come from?? We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans; they don't know a thing about Africa ..... I say this all of the time. It would be like white people saying they are European-American. That is totally stupid. I was born here, and so were my parents and grand parents and, very likely my great grandparents. I don't have any connection to Africa, no more than white Americans have to Germany , Scotland , England , Ireland , or the Netherlands . The same applies to 99 percent of all the black Americans as regards to Africa . So stop, already! ! ! With names like Shaniqua, Taliqua and Mohammed and all of that crap ......... And all of them are in jail. Brown or black versus the Board of Education is no longer the white person's problem. We have got to take the neighborhood back. People used to be ashamed. Today a woman has eight children with eight different 'husbands' -- or men or whatever you call them now. We have millionaire football players who cannot read. We have million-dollar basketball players who can't write two paragraphs. We, as black folks have to do a better job. Someone working at Wal-Mart with seven kids, you are hurting us. We have to start holding each other to a higher standard.. We cannot blame the white people any longer.' ~Dr.. William Henry 'Bill' Cosby, Jr., Ed..D.

I'm  a fan of the "pp" size pistols, so i could easily see my little round gimpy self totin one of these around when the new wears off of them...   As to the grip safety;.... In the "old days" (...before the 1911 nazis and the safety police...) the old timers just pinned the safety back... There wuz many a 1911 carried by a trooper who knew how to use it that either had the safety pinned or tied back with rawhide on his trusty 1911...   I say this is america (...for the time bein, anyway...); do anything ya feel like doin... The hell with the nazis and the safety police....   leroy

  13. My brother-in-law sent my young kids gift cards for Christmas. He also included second gift cards for each kid to give away. He asked that each kid write him a letter to tell him about their encounter when they gave it away. Great lesson for the kids and they really enjoyed it. Just let people enjoy the act of giving. If you haven't made a decision yet, there's always the layaway angel idea. Just pay the money on someone's account.

  14. I don't think anyone needs to turn into an attorney on the street; in fact, I think doing so is incredibly stupid; the court room is the place for attorneys to argue the law.   On the other hand, I'd say that being polite, to never consent to a search and basically keep your mouth shut is usually the best way to go when stopped by police...if I've actually broken the law then it's likely they are going to ticket me or arrest me no matter what I say or don't say or whether I consent to a search or not.

  15. TN already has Castle Doctrine Tennessee has a self-defense law based on the castle doctrine. Enacted in 2007, the law does not require a duty to retreat. It extends the right for persons to defend themselves from attacks by using physical or deadly force in any place they have a legal right to be. The law provides civil immunity for persons using physical or deadly force to protect themselves from an attacker.

  22. And thats a wrap for my 2013 deer season, unless of course I was a poacher, then I can hunt year round.   :squint:   Time to start maintenance on the property, trimming up trails, fixing washed out areas, setting the feeders back up and planning for the summer food plots.  This year we will be planting cowpeas, soybeans and corn.  Maybe a few other things but I'm not quite sure yet.     I don't ever remember being sad about deer season ending.  I am just really getting to be a softy in my old age (28 geesh), realizing that life is short and I never feel like there is enough time to do the things that I love.  I have my faith, I know that when the time comes I will have ultimate fulfillment in heaven but I am here on this earth now and I still will miss the blessings we have here on this earth but I digress...   I got my first bow kill as well as my first muzzleloader kill this year and we have taken 12 doe off our property consistent with our herd management goals.   I am glad to see many here have had safe and successful hunts as well!  We have learned more about our properties we hunt, more about deer patters and behaviors and have all become better sportsmen.       Next up will be Turkey Season March 29th!  Someone needs to warn my dogs that I will start practicing my calling soon.  It drives them nuts.     Anyways, I have certainly enjoyed the hunting conversations this season.  Now lets get talking about thunder chickens and fishin'!

  23. Did this legislation come as a surprise? Did the CT legislature hold secret meetings and pass this legislation? If not, where were these people who are ready to die for their gun rights prior to the legislation being passed? Show up armed and do what? As long as they are taking no action why would anyone get in a gun battle with them? They also won’t go house to house as with any other law they will deal with it as individual violations present themselves. An armed engagement with the Police would only result in prison or death; not many are going to be willing to go that route.

  24. Uh huh.   This is a good idea, but something of this nature is one that must be done verbally... with no record... I'll strongly second what Spots said as well. A sense of unity among we liberty-pursuing folks in our aspirations is vital, but doing so over the internet or even over phone nowadays is a good way to get a visit from the NSA, ATF, DHS, FBI... etc., etc., etc....

  30.   Yep. We're lucky 2A is there, as it has stood as our justification for individual firearm possession. But certainly it wasn't put there with a mind to self defense, hunting, or recreational shooting. The Founders simply did not conceive that those endeavors would need to be defended, any more than your right to own and use a knife, ax, hoe, or hammer.   - OS

  34. Well, that article was from 2007, but I do agree with you DaveS that the stand your ground laws just make sense. Retreat in the face of a criminal is not always possible due to many uncontrollable factors and a victims abilities (older, physically unable, etc.) and just plain stupid. Retreat will do no more to increase your chances of survival than begging for mercy in the face of a criminal. It will actually make the attacker more bold. A criminal confronted with a flash from a firearm being shot at their arse however sends a strong message and most of the time from what I've read, puts the criminal in "get the hell outta Dodge" mode or saves the state a ton of money on room and board, if you know what I mean. Either one is much more appealing than say, a woman performing the famous Liberal 3-P (PEE-PUKE-POOP on yourself) method of deterring a rapist for example.

  40. It makes no difference on our State level who holds the majority, (as evidenced by last few year's sessions) with the exception that prior to the super-majority we have now, one could get a firearms friendly piece of legislation passed, or at least on the floor for debate.  Since the present Speaker of the House and Senate have decided that the mere mention of advancing a Constitutional restorative issue relative to firearms (doing away with a Jim Crow era encroachment) is anathema we have been stuck in Never Move land.  I do not see that changing till the Elite Establishment current leadership we have is somewhere else.

  41. Unless I’m missing something it’s just you. Scratch Illinois off your list. They will be carrying this year. Look at the 7th Federal District ruling and the subsequent Illinois Supreme Court Ruling. Some states have passed legislation that they will not recognize any Federal bans. We have had more positive court rulings and gun legislation in the past five years than we have had in the past 50. I’m not saying to relax, but the anti gunners are losing their battles.

  43. Went this morning, stayed til 10, no deer. I did see a coyote sneak across behind me, but not in time to get a shot off. Will try again tomorrow, hopefully can bag one more. Wish we had one more week, its going to be to cold to work the first part of the week. Guess I'll do a little reloading. But can't complain though I have taken 4 this year using 3 different rifles. Was wanting to take one with the SBH again this year but hasn't worked out. I'll take it and the 30-30 tomorrow as I haven't taken anything with either this year, never know tomorrow may be the day. Any way been a good season with some memorible times.  Good luck to everyone who is going to give it one last shot tomorrow.

  44.   All good points. The only thing is that all the writings I recall from the founders, the ones from which all the famous gun quotes are lifted, always put firearm ownership into the justification of overthrowing external invasion or internal tyranny. There may be some regarding personal self defense, but I don't recall any?   Not that the founders would have any problem defining personal self defense as the reason for that right, I just don't think they considered that would ever be in question, but only the idea that a repressive government might take them away to prevent its overthrow.   Of course, our repressive government has proven that the Constitution is indeed mere words to be bandied about and twisted into whatever actual policy it can get away with -- as far as firearms, that began in 1934 and no mass uprisings occurred then, nor to date.   - OS

  48. So Obama decides the military retirement pay will have to be trimmed, and gets his best boys working on the ways and means.  After much debate they decide that the best (cheapest) method would be just pay the recipient by the linear inch; as in $1000 for straight line on the body from point to point, and to sweeten the pot,,the GI gets to pick the line.   So the first retiree to fall prey to the scheme is a light colonel. He thinks about it for minute and declares he'll take his pay from the tippy top of his head to the soles of his feet.   Best boy whips out the tape, and declares "6 foot 1 inch! $73,000!! Next guy in line is a full bull, and he figures the angles, and declares HE will take his line from the tip of his out-stretched hand, to the tips of his toes.   Best boy pops a line on him and declares "87 inches!! $87000!!! So this goes on, with varied amounts from 58000 to 93,000 bucks shelled out, when they come to old grizzled Top Sgt., gazing bemusedly over the process.  "Step up Top," cries best boy, "and say how you'll be measured!" 1st shirt looks down at the bureaucrat, shifts his wad and spits, and declares in his company formation voice that he will take his pay based on the line from the tip of his johnson to his testicals!  "My Goodness!" squalls the paperpusher, not wanting to defraud the poor enlisted swine more than was his due, "Didn't you pay attention to the men in front of you? You're leaving a pile of money on the table!!" But Ol' Sarge was adamant; drops his shorts  and demanded his pay to be determined as requested.  Shrugging his shoulders, best boy whips out the tape, lays it on the proscribed spot, and stretches it back,,,," SERGENT!!!!! WHERE ARE YOUR BALLS!!!!"  Top looks down and spits, "Vietnam."

  49.   Nope. Unless something turns it around, and I believe that will take the systemic financial and societal breakdown of The Big Pain, the US will continue to sink into liberal socialism. The vicious circle is now well embedded. As more and more sink into poverty because of lib policy, they in turn must rely on lib handouts, which induces them to vote to keep the cause of their demise in power.   I think the country will go totally south before we're all in the same boat as NY, CT, NJ (or worse) gun wise -- but if it doesn't, we'll eventually look about like the Aussies in regard to gun rights, and likely worse. Canada will look like conservative gun heaven by comparison.   It's not even really about the guns, it's about control of the populace. Once they have control of your pocketbook, the only thing really left in the way of that are the guns.   And of course I hope I'm dead wrong.   - OS
