  1. I just visited a Walmart store that I've never been to. A really nice manager said " looking for .22"? I said no, I have given up to the hoarders and gypsy resellers. He said " try back tomorrow , this store is now going to set ammo out at random times. We are tired of making 5 resellers happy and pissing off 500 customers who actually but other merchandise. " holy cow!!! This is the fair way to do it. I hope they really do this. The store manager said he's tired of the reselling and tired of the upset customers who want ammo. Win win!!

  2. I was in Walmart a few days before Christmas. I stopped by sporting goods and seen a line of about 10 or so people. From the looks of it most were picking up guns. There were some 22 on the shelf as well so who knows. I was looking at some scopes when I seen some adults act awful. Well a mother, and her son who didn't look 10, were there picking up his Christmas present. He was getting a nice bolt action 22 which was probably his first "real" gun. After the background they began ringing up the purchase but before they paid they asked for a few boxes of 22. They weren't getting all of it but you wouldn't know it based on how the adults were acting. The second she asked for the two boxes a universal "huff" came from the crowd followed by comments about how it was BS followed by a lot if whispering. It was enough that the mother was looking around to figure out what was going on. Hopefully the kid didn't catch on but the mother sure did. I say this because something needs to give when adults are bitching about a kid getting a gun and ammo.

  3. My maternal granddad was an odd duck, spent a lot of time with him, taught me to drive and shoot and whatnot.   I was going on 6 years old, one of the few distinct memories I have of that era, when he bought a brand new '53 Pontiac (which 10 years later became my first car).   He said, "Dickie Boy, c'mere I'll show ya something." Had a small ball peen hammer in his hand. Went around to left rear wheel (had those nifty old half wheel covers in well), and smack!, put a small dent on bottom of it.   "Why'dja do that, Grandaddy?"   "So I don't have to worry about the first scratch I get on it, Dickie Boy."   Grand ole screwball feller, my granddad.   - OS

  6. No, that's just a bad dream. What I really fear is that she will find out how many I've bought and what I actually have paid for them.

  7. OS, you reminded me of a story. I will TRY to be as succinct as possible.   Back in 1957, two legendary musicians, Jimmy Day and Buddy Emmons, both steel guitar and bass players, got sick of bass players that couldn't play the right part. They decided to go in together and buy a brand new '57 Fender Precision bass, and each of them would play bass for the other. That way, they knew the part would be right.   They took it to Tootsie's bar, and set it on a table, admiring their joint purchase. They were drinking, and one says to the other, "I wonder which one of us is going to put the first ding in it?" They ponder that, and one of them takes his glass, and BOING, smacks the bass and says, "There! First ding." Well, the other, not wanting to be left out, did it, too.   By the end of a night of drinking and dinging, their brand new bass was basically a pile of matchsticks on the table at Tootsie's.

  9. I've had multiple conversations with a co-worker (none initiated by me after the 1st one) and he is one of those guys that says "I'm ex military and for gun rights but in the same breath says nobody needs high cap "clips", full auto, etc. Which in short means he is okay with whatever the news tells us that the government says is okay for us to have. ANYWAY....   He walked up the other day and we talked for a second about work and then "high cap clips" and EBR's. I know where he stands and he definitely knows where I stand, which makes these discussions null and void. But I just had to share a couple of bright statements. I asked him why he thought it was okay for everyone in CT to register what they have and for the law abiding citizens of New Jersey to surrender certain "evil" weapons. Since none of the gang members where registering illegal weapons or surrendering anything and they have plenty of high cap mags and EBR's. He said, and get ready for this, "Well those gang members know better than to use them" My jaw dropped! I said, you do understand most people carry a weapon legally because of idiots that carry illegally and DO use them. I said "Do you ever listen to the news about robberies, home invasions, or murders that happen every single day. He quickly turned to these mass murders. I told him that they are horrendous but the aforementioned crimes happen every day and not by the people who are constantly having their rights attacked while criminals laugh at new legislation. He claimed that the high cap clips didn't give people time to hide or run away. It was only because of the high cap clips that so many people got killed. I laughed and said, "No, it was because an idiot had made a decision to kill people. That's the reason so many people got killed." When he brought up about mags and AR15's I told him it was not for him or anyone to decide what I had or anyone else who bites their tongues, and lives by the laws every day. I also asked him what good it would do for all of us to have to live by the law (since we already are) if the criminals continue to disobey old and new laws. He tried going back to mass murders. He really thinks that it will fix something. As I said earlier, it does no good to explain it, because he blames it on Republicans for not wanting to sit down and talk about sensible gun control. Even though there are enough laws now, that if obeyed, would decrease it almost completely.  Just imagine if starting tomorrow nobody, robbed, killed, raped, or stole from anyone. This change would have nothing to do with what weapons you or I have in our houses or on our person. Evil has and always will be here. But people that think we should just let evil people do what they will while we obey the law are delusional. One previous conversation I brought up gangs in all of the cities with the strictest gun laws and how they do what they want regardless of the law. He said "Yeah, but the police have a hold on them. The gangs are in certain areas and they know what they can't do". I literally busted out laughing and said "So, you think I should not have certain weapons but as long as the gangs stay inside the ghetto, they should be able to do as they wish?" Good Lord help us all!

  12. So! Season is over ladies and gents. I killed a 146 pointer tonight but the rack wouldn't fit in the camera so you'll just have to take my word on it.  Wind was terrible as we all know, had guys next door target practicing about 2:30 or so, then the bottom fell out for about an hour and then turned to just light to medium rain the rest of the day.  I've really enjoyed this hunting season and a lot of that was keeping up with the hunting threads on here. Thanks to everyone who participated and made the hunt talk what it is. Dave, I need help lifting this huge rack into the truck......

  13. Congrats! Nothing like squeezing one more in at the last minute. I'm hoping to catch the stirring before this front. If I put one down early enough I'll probably stay put and try to get another. I may be asking for trouble but I think I'm headed back into that devilish area that I took the last one in.

  18. I'm a reformed Walmart hater. I used to constantly bag on them about their business practices and was under the false impression that they increased poverty. I was then presented with a few facts and realized that Walmart has done far more to raise the standard of living of those at the lower end of the socioeconomic scale than any government welfare program ever thought about doing. By keeping prices as low as they do, they allow many folks to have goods and conveniences that would be otherwise be completely out of their reach. I generally prefer to shop at Target but I know that Walmart benefits me as well by forcing Target to stay competitive. So thank you Walmart for making my life better.

  19. When you yell fire in a movie house and there is no fire, you are lying. Yo can not use the 1st to cover you a$$. Some religions believe in human sacrifice, God asked for a man to kill his son, God stopped it. Is human sacrifice wrong, in my eyes yes, but who am I to judge. Freedom of assembly is regulated on public grounds, ie, parks, state buildings and such. However if I want to have a few people over to my place, it can not be stopped. The 2nd does not list "what" kind of arms we can have, we have them just so we can keep a free state. In 1934 IIRC is when full auto was taken, now 70 years latter look where we are at. We are standing in line to tell the government what we have. CT, NY, DC We can not have mags bigger than 10 rounds. Some states Every firearm bought is keep on a list forever. CA after 1/1/2014   Thia crap will never stop, unless we get out the vote, tell all your friends to tell their friends. Start at the local level, city mayor, elected LEO, counsel members. Move on to the state level, and on to Washington. The very sad part, we just maybe to late. I feel we did stop the AWB last year and the push for tighter back ground checks. The progressives will never stop, as said in another post, when the progressives lose they just regroup and come back fighting harder.

  21. This is something that never used to dawn on me, and it's a good point. Several years ago after a motorcycle wreck, my roommate in ICU was there from a tree stand accident. At least that's what the dr's were calling it anyway. Turns out he was in a climber, but another tree 15 or so yards came down in the wind and took him out of the tree. After I heard the story from his family it really made more aware in the woods, and really more aware at a greater circumference of my stand. Glad you brought that up, and glad you dodged that one Luke. And I guess now that deer season has ended its off to hunt smaller critters until spring spawn rolls around!

  30. You guys wouldn't pile on a fella would ya? It was a great match, I really wasn't looking forward to freezing, but with no wind it was perfect. I'm pretty beat though, Spiffy had a flat after the match and his spare was flat, fortunately for him I was still there. It wore me out watching him change that thing! Between that and (this is gonna sound gay, but I don't care) the picklegasm I had from the home canned pickles prag gave me, I'm spent. As always it was great shooting with and talking to you guys!

  31. As bad as Obama has been, I don't see a republican winning the presidency anytime soon. I think the country as a whole is drifting more and more to the liberal side (especially socially), and those who are more socially liberal view almost all republicans as ubber-conservative. Gay marriage and abortion are going to be the death of the republican party.

  32.   Seems to be quite common that 870 chambers are sticky over last few years, and especially with cheap low brass shells -- see the complaint frequently on forums. And yep, that's standard fix. Fine steel wool or fresh ScothBrite pad chucked in drill one way or another -- some say best to sop with Hoppes while doing it, some say dry,  dunno.   - OS

  34.   Weaver did not open fire on the "cops".  They opened fire on him.  Maybe you could tell us what Weaver was finally convicted of that warranted the murder of his son and wife?   You should remove the American flags in your avatar and replace them with something more appropriate for those who love tyranny.

  35.   The lower end 870 problem is fairly unique though, and seems to be simply lack of quality machining at the factory. Indeed, most reports I've read happen right at the gitgo with folks' first firing of their new shottie, even on the very first shot.   - OS

  40.   Good. Had he gotten the nomination by some miracle, would have been a lopsided defeat indeed. West, maybe a shot, but I doubt it. Ben Carson. Seems would be super, from what we seem to know at this point. If I had to be the farm this far out, still Christie, though. Though I still see Hildebeest winning going away (and still haven't ruled out Christie even being her Veep if he fails in the primaries). - OS

  43. Well, here's what I did; While attending my Civil War Artillery units meeting today and while sitting in the dinning room of a local restaurant , I observed an elderly couple come in the door and sit down. The gentleman was wearing a black ball cap that said "WWII Veteran" and the word "Army", and it was adorned with a few award ribbons and a pair of Airborne Jump Wings and a 101st Screaming eagle pin. Him and his wife ate Schnitzel dinners and had coffee. I went up to the counter to pay for my lunch and I asked the waitress for their bill. She gave me a strange look and laid it on the counter. I handed her my card and said "Tell them their dinner is took care of and his service during WWII is greatly appreciated". Their lunch cost me $32 and some change but so what. I would have paid for it no matter what it cost. Me and a couple friends watched as the waitress went over to their table a little bit later and bent down to speak to the elderly couple, I'm guessing to explain that someone paid for their meal. He briefly look around the room (we were about 12 feet away) and it appeared that he was wiping his eyes. Paying it forward is done!   Airborne!   Dave
